Not all firmwares are wipe ones. But I guess that if you flash a new firmware it will clear your settings but not your information / data. Anyway, just take care not to do a wipe in ICS. I'd try to flash a GB firmware and then try a full wipe if the pattern is not cleared....
thanks.
do you mean stock roms do not always wipe my internal storage? do you know which one does, which one doesn't? or is it all by chance?

Go to check development threads. Wipe version will normally only wipe your root partition.
Generally speaking, if you do it right, your internal sdcard (emmc) will not be touched. You'll only lose your user apps, game progresses and system settings, but not your music, movies, photos, documents, etc.
The problem is that if you don't wipe system settings, your phone is still locked.
I think the best way is still try to retrieve your google password.

Your phone will remain unlocked. You can master clear on whatever rom you are on - it justs basically reflashes the rom you are on, and erases all of your data such as apps and other things on your sd card.

plus, what do u mean by reflashes the rom i am on? suppose i am on miui. does that mean i won't be going to stock rom?

Assuming you mean the external sd card, yes. Files such as pictures, videos, or other documents but apps that you save to your sd card may behave badly. I've never tried transferring apps like that. Not sure what with happen with them. If you have apps,, you may want to try Titanium Backup to keep them. Things on your internal sd card will be removed when you master clear.
Basically, I want to wipe my phone and get it clean and free as I possibly can. I've noticed some major lag issues and I've decided to clean it up before flashing a new ROM. I want to get it as squeaky clean as possible.
Would a factory reset clear all the data and what not on the phone and the internal SD or would I have to use Odin Master Wipe? Should I revert back to stock before doing either option?
I've backed up all my apps through Titanium Backup and saved a copy unto my computer, is there any other data I should save before doing this?
I've just been looking at some much information I've gone and confused myself so I wanted to check before I continued and ruin my phone or something.
Thank you for your help. :3
Go here ... Stock i897ucKK4 . Flash one with the gb bootloaders if u don't have them already installed. This will get u to the full kk4 firmware. These KK4 one clicks in this link are full wipe. They will wipe data, dbdata and cache. --- Just like starting over with a new phone, except these one clicks do not touch the internal sd. So if u want to get rid of that stuff, u can connect to ur pc and select and delete what u want to or use that Master Clear that u mentioned or format it from the settings of ur phone.
Be sure to save ur contacts, apps, texts, etc. somewhere...

This is perfect, thank you. I just wanted to be sure before I started screwing with it. Thank you for the help.
It's always so scary posting on forums like this but I did multiple searches and couldn't seem to find my answer so here I am.
I have just flashed from ALBA Syndicate v4 to RocketRom v1 JB and all is well aside from some of the known bugs.
But I have a query.
When browsing my internal SD card I see all sorts of folders and data left over from all of my previous installs and apps. No I am not sure if this actually affects the way my phone works but I don't like how messy and confusing it is. So I went into settings and tried to format USB storage as they call it. It said complete but all folders were still there and it seems as though nothing had changed. PS I don't mind losing pictures or anything at all, I want a clean start.
I also tried to 'format /sdcard' in CWM but it said there was an error mounting it and couldn't compete. I guess that's because it is referring to an external card...
If someone would help me I would greatly appreciate it. I would like to know how to format my internal storage and when or how it is safe to do so.
Many thanks in advance!

PPS I couldn't post in the official thread for RocketRom v1 because I am still a forum noob but I wanted to say a massive thank you because it's awesome. And thank you for my 50gb dropbox upgrade!
Easiest way to format properly is to mount it on your PC, then manually select all the files and delete. The built in wipe never seems to do a proper wipe.

i have the same problem, and i also tried to delete all data trough pc. and also tried through rom changing but all data and apps showing as it is.
pls help us guys
what rom and kernel are you on? what do you mean by deleted data and all showing ? apps will be deleted when you do a factory reset from recovery. but you have to be on a safe kernel. if you installed a non wipe rom,. it will still carry on your apps. you need to install a wipe rom

Same problem here... i cant format data.. have tried hard reset, flashed the rom 3 times, factory reset, cache / Dalvik , system / data / preload... almost everything i could read in forums everywhere.. now will be deleting everything manually.. is its because of the rom im using? or is it a hardware related issue?
currently on [4.1.2 JB]Ultimate N7000 XXLSC JellyBean 4.1.2 v5.1..
Thanks in advance if anyone has a solution.
Hello,
Yesterday I was trying to install a custom rom on my Xperia SP. Long story short the ROMS I tried were working fine but the screen was flickering cause of the kernel. So I tried switching back to the stock ftf and kernel (12.1.A.1.207). It all worked fine, until I realised that every picture/music/app data and in general, every single file I had on the internal storage was gone! It's as if I had just bought the phone, with only a few folders on the internal storage as it showed on ES File Explorer...
What's weird is that the external sd card is fine. Everything I had from the previous phone is still there.
I have installed a ton of ROMS on my previous phone, but nothing like this had happened. So I thought I didn't have to do a backup... Any thoughts what could've gone wrong? Was the internal storage formatted somehow? Please... I lost all my pictures with my friends/family
Thanks in advance...

You flashed the ftf in flashtool? There's an option in flashtool to skip data wipe, if you don't check it it will format the internal storage

Wow really? I've flashed an ftf yeah, but I wanted to switch from the flickering screen of cyanogenmod to a stock ftf file.
Anyway, I flashed a lot of ftfs on my old Xperia Tipo in the past, and I was always ticking "wipe data". But all it was doing was a factory reset...not formatting my storage...
Do you know a possible recovery program? Because I'm trying to find one right now

Well yeah
Anyway...I decided to move on. After searching for a while, I discovered that you can retrieve lost files, but only those which were on the external sd card, which was fine for me. SO IF ANYONE ELSE LOST HIS/HER DATA ON THE INTERNAL STORAGE, DON'T EVEN BOTHER WITH RECOVERY PROGRAMS, THEY ONLY WORK FOR THE SD CARD. TRUST ME, I TRIED ALMOST EACH ONE OF THEM.
I downloaded all the songs/games I had before.., but I cared about my pictures videos much more than my game's progress
I flashed the good old 12.1.A.1.205 ftf and it works just fine...
It's a shame you can't install custom roms in this phone without having the screen flickering all the time when u flash a custom kernel...
Thanks for the help guys
Can I downgrade my device(xiao mi3) from 7.0-Lineage OS to CM-13?and without losing any data, can???and how???
You can try but you will have some issues if you keep your data. I think you'll need to wipe. You dont need to wipe the internal, but the data and those stuffs
