Im on stock rom froyo. Should i start at the "prepping the system" step? Thanks a lot for your help.
Well, this is my opinion, I am not sure what Overcome will say.
The prep is needed because there are some people who are on locked bootloader in froyo.
Also, once rooted you can do Titanium Backup.
That is why it says you need to be rooted first.
But:
- if you don't care about Titanium Backup, no need to root.
- if you have locked bootloader, you won't be able to continue. Unless you root, then unlock the bootloader.
So my suggestion, jump straight to the Odin flash for froyo.
Edit: I never have locked boot loader so I don't know the impact.
the guy on the other thread can't boot after flashing, and think maybe it is due to boot loader locked.
So I retract, best is to follow overcome to the letter if you are on froyo.
Im already rooted with z4 root. What should i do now? What step should i go to?
still from the top.
Froyo, right?
You need to check if your bootloader is locked.
If not locked, and you have all your apps backup,
then just get the GB-stock-safe package,
unzip it and flash using Odin.
will try that later once i'm free thanks
i followed all the steps and managed to run on overcome, but now i can't get any mobile network signal and still can't make calls. help meeee

Hi everybody,
I got this phone on ebay when i was in US. I didnt check the phone when I was there.. It is being to late to send it back i guess..
The phone has problem with wifi and bluetooth. Wifi shows error when i try to enable it. and bluetooth show nothing.. NO Mac address shows on info.
After a little search as i understand, i need to flash the kernel on the phone. But i have no knowlage on flahing kernel..
Any ideas would be appreciated.. thanks.
Can't flash the kernal due to the locked bootloader. You can try using RSDlite to flash the fastboot files. Look in the dev section

Oh duh, is this the Verizon D3? (862) I ask because that is all the SBF will work for. The 860 doesn't have SBF yet AFAIK.

I received the SGH-i957 for work and they told us not to add any weird apps. What I want to do is remove some the crappy AT&T apps to use less resources. I have rooted an EVO 4g and a HTC Arrive Windows Phone as well as my old HTC Touch Diamond. I have been reading the different threads and I am just curious what you guys think the best method is?
It really doesn't use more resources

If your work said to not mess with apps then I wouldn't really root it.
If you don't care about that, then just follow the rooting thread. I personally like the kernel root method

I will go into more detail I guess. I want to backup how they gave it to me and run it custom, be it remove apps or a new rom. I am worried about some kind of privacy issues. With my HTC Evo 4g I could backup the original rom completely and then uninstall programs or install a new rom.

Flash twrp and make a nandroid backup then do your root process.
Sent from my SGH-I727 using xda premium
Yeah, I am definitely rooting it. It is ungodly slow with only a few programs on it and it keeps using at&t data even though I have removed all widgets and have very few apps installed. I know that know one wants to hear me say this but every time I use Android I dislike it more and more. I am sorry if I offend anyone.

Ok, I got permission from the boss to root and either clean up the stock rom, remove crap, or load a custom rom. So should I just follow the guide in this and if I have to run a custom rom use the on in this thread. Do I have to use the twrp and nandroid backup to make a backup? Or can I restore the stock rom buy using Method 2 after I follow the Method 1 in the root guide?

Thanks for your help man. I want you to know you are not just helping me.
I have a Captivate that I am using for a media player (no sim card). Right now I am running REMICS 4.2.
My son-in-law broke his phone and I want to let him use mine but he is on a different carrier.
Do I have to go back to stock or GB in order to unlock? And yes, I have tried the apps and the codes for checking lock/unlock does not work with JB.
Thanks in advance for any help!!!:good:

I think the app does work on JB gotta input the code while the other SIM card is in the phone.
If I'm wrong, you might need to be on stock GB but doesn't make much sense to me
GalaxSim Unlock app by Spocky from the Play Store. The ability to do the unlock isn't free but should do the job on the JB Rom.
The other unlock app by helroz, u would have to flash back to Stock first then unlock...i think.

There would also be the manual way... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=761045 it's not as simple as downloading an app but it's very effective and permanent.

I was given a Samsung Galaxy tab 8.9 LTE/sgh-i957 about a year ago for free and it has been pretty good. It is pretty slow compared to new tabs and I don't really need the LTE. My question is should I root it and run a custom ROM or just buy a Nook HD+ for $149.99? I can use hotspots on my phone from anywhere so the internet connection isn't an issue. I am just curious if I will even notice a speed increase on the sgh-i957 with a cleaner non-bloated ROM at it's age.
What version of android are you running now? If it's gingerbread you'll see a large change in performance if you go to ics. Cm10 and ics run about the same on my i957. I'm rooted.

To root do.the following:
Download twrp onto your computer http://d-h.st/dx3 Flash it in Odin, PDA
Download superSU-busybox on to your phone http://d-h.st/vjq. Flash that with twrp
You will be rooted. I've assumed you are familiar with Odin and flashing custom roms.

Familiar with rooting, Yes, have done it many times on many phones, current LG Optimus G is rooted. Familiar with Odin, No, this will be my first time using it, but I am a reader and will not do anything unless I am sure.

Best guide for Odin is in the i727 skyrocket development forum. There is a sticky by vincom that is a return to stock / Odin guide. Just follow it with the tab specific files. I'm on my mobile or I'd link you to it. Twrp, you flash just like you would a stock Rom. Pay attention to what what options are checked in Odin. You only want auto, reboot, never re-partition

Thanks, got it rooted and froze a bunch of apps but it is still pretty slow. I guess I will be upgrading because Magazines look amazing on the 1280p Nook HD+ display too.
Does anyone know what's the latest and simplest method to unroot the device so OTA updates can be downloaded? If odining back to stock firmware can be avoided that'd be great. I'm trying to get rid of some annoying issues on my current build. Thanks.

My Galaxy Edge has Null for IMEI, servicemode is blank no commands, and no broadband version so no Sim will work. if not posted yet anyone know about when it will be available here as this is most trustworthy site? Also i hear it is not wise, possible to flash with a previous version than my current phone which is G925AUCU2AOF4 - i hope i and others don't have to wait too long.
