Impossible to install apps - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

It's more or less one month that I have the SlimICS ROM installed on my phone and I never had any problem, but this morning suddently every time I try to install a new app, appear a message telling me that it's impossible to install the apk, and I have to free some space, but I have 600mb free.
How can I fix this issue?
thnx

Go to Settings --> Apps
Sort apps by size and move every (excluding widgets and root apps) app/game to sdcard.
Then restart phone to recovery, wipe cache, dalvik-cache, fix permissions and reboot to Android and check after few minutes if this helped.

I think your app-partition is full. Moving some apps to sd will fix your problem

Rooted my phone, moved apps to sd card, dumped dalvik cache, but still full memory...

Hey every one,
Yesterday i rooted my phone using superoneclick (running android 2.2.1) because i was getting sick of the fact that my memory was running full.
After that i did this:
Deleted facebook to make space for link2sd (have no seccond partition)
Installed link2sd,
Moved apps to sd.
Installed facebook on sd,
Go with my root file manager into /data/dalvik-cache/ and deleted everything inside there (50 mb) but after rebooting my phone the memory starts filling itself again and my dalvik cache was full again.
What can i do to make my memory free? Im havin 12 mb free now, but thats not enoug....
And also, is it safe to move apps like calander to sd?
Thanks, domini99

Oow... Damn...
Where does it have to be?
general section, open the new thread there
soon it will be closed
as you are saying you have root then download a2sd froyo root open the app select the data storage as external then you can move almost all apps to external memory but it will also not leave many storage for you I will recommend you to first upgrade to gingerbread then partition your sdcard and use link2sd
First a question: can i go furder from herr or do i have to close this topic? Thanks!

...?!? you have deleted all dalvik-cache?!? First: the data of apps are in system/data/data then you not must touch the dalvik-cache, second: use install manager for move the apps on sdcard and not link2sd, install manager is better, third: you can move only the apps (apk) on sdcard but the data remain on internal memory then also if you install all in sdcard the internal memory it lowers, the only way for move all (apk+data) on sdcard is do a partition, without the partition you not can move also the data but only the apk, then for you now the only way for get more free memory is uninstall all useless apps.

Ooh. Eeerm.... Yeaaah... Well, see. Im not the smartest here...
Oke, i looked into data/data and therr was a lot of junk in from apps i already uninstalled, almost 10 mb! I deleted that and deleted dalvik, than rebooted and now 154 mb free!!!
I installed install manager, but.. What do i need to do with it? Link 2 sd i used to set install location and moved some apps. That did a lot for me. I always wanted a game, but that was 50 mb, and that will never fitt on the internel memory, but it only could on internel, now its on sd, and working great
Thanks for reply, im already helped that far to know how to take care of my memory.
But its still fine if someone can give me some tips, im brand new to root and i understand only 10% of everything....
Thanks

Titanium Backup FTW!!!
So, I used titanium backup to move some things from the internal memory to the sd card. It worked fine as now I have about 20-30 mb free on internal. and this is good.
Also, a 2 Gb sd card is ok, but a larger one would be perfect . I have a 2 Gb now and I'll need a larger one soon ).
Also I uninstalled all useless apps like: Facebook, Twitter etc ) All useless social apps, the park is much better also the school.
That's all I know. Hope it helps u somehow.
I have also internal memory so full (about 20mb free)
You can try ungaze script for Galaxy Mini

If you want keep using your stock rom you can use Doc_cheilvenerdi.org boot.img that can change our sams mount partition /data to sdext. :good:
Meeeh, stock rom sucks and is slow. I prefer cyanogenmod 7.2

[Q] Where is my internal memory being used?

First of all, i have a S5830i rooted, odexed phone. I have linked ALL my apps to SD via Link2SD app.
I used to have around 100mb free but after a few days that became 90mb. I thought to try a wipe dalvik cache and after the reboot i had 78mb free!
I saw in many other screenshots that there are people with 130+ or even 150+ mb of free space internal memory.
How do they achieve that? Why i have only 78mb of free internal memory while i don't have any apps installed there?
I hope someone can assist me with that.
Thanks in advance.

you are not clear with your question
u saw people have 15 mb free.. and when you have 78 mb free. you should be happy
i'm sorry i misstyped i mean 150mb not 15... 78mb free space seems too low since i don't have any apps installed in my internal storage.
As far as i know, Not all app data is copied to sd card with link 2sd. Did u think about trying a Script like "cronmod" or amarullz? Or s2e app which is, in my opinion, better than link2sd.

link to sd never moves your dalvik cache and data to sd partition..
I would recommend you to use s2e if you are on CM7.x

Link2sd moves apps apk, dalvik-cache dex, and libraries lib to the partition. Data of apps stay on internal /data.
Wiping dalvik cache (from recovery for example, or with adb) causes link2sd to loose the symbolic links used to store data, which messes up your app's location in a pretty nasty way.
Open link2sd, filter your linked apps, select all of them with menu > multi select > select all, then link app+dex+lib. If there were parts of an app that weren't linked this fixes it. Reboot. Also from link2sd clean app cache.
Finally, check your data/local address with a root explorer and make sure there aren't copies of apk files you already linked. If there are copies, delete them, reboot.
Edit: moving /data of apps to the partition frees up more memory, but lowers performance, specially with sdcards class 6 and below, and partitions which are ext2 or fat32.

Internal storage getting full by updates

It seems that whenever I install application updates for my installed applications the ram, or internal storage is consumed, until the point that all is used and doesn't allow me to download more updates, nor install more applications. Moving some applications to SD just leads to the same result: the ram is eventually saturated again.
And it seems to happen either with stock rom and Cyanogenmod. I'm with CM right now.
What a friend did was uninstalling all apps, leave those really useful and avoiding updates at all, but I don't think that as a solution.
What can I do? Thanks.
Try using scripts like Cronmod to increase your internal memory by creating an ext partition in your SD card. That should solve it. Here is the link
[SCRIPTS]CronMod-INT2EXT
What I tried to mean is, why are updates consuming always additional amounts of ram? Aren't they supposed to work by replacing old files with new ones?
First of all what your are talking about is storage, not RAM.
And in most of the cases it doesnt need more storage. The reason why it's consuming more is because it downloads the whole application and then replace the old apk. After a reboot you'll have your old amount of storage.

I tried what you suggested, and I seem to have my free storage again, or almost. After updating my apps and rebooting I have about 2 extra Mb consumed. Is it common?

[Q] How to 'clean up' apps that didn't install correctly?

Hi,
I'm having a bit of a problem with my RAZR i. Say I try to install a 50MB app on my phone, while I have 540MB of space on my internal storage. It downloads fine; but when it starts installing, I get an error of some description, like 'Insufficient Storage Available'. Now, though, even though the app isn't installed and is therefore no use to me, I now have 490MB of space remaining on my phone storage.
This is starting to become a real problem. I've had a lot of space gobbled by this, and my phone storage is getting really small, even if I uninstall almost all my apps and move everything to the SD. Is there any way I could kind of clean up these uninstalled apps?
Thanks!
Did you try to reboot the phone? Maybe that clears up the space.
Just tried that: it didn't make a difference.

Try SDMaid.
I had the same problem with a huge game (what was 1gb) and it downloaded only 900mb.
I have no idea where to which folder it downloads it, I could only solve it by deleting / moving some other apps, downloading it fully, let it install and then uninstall to get the full space back.
If anyone knows to which temp folder it is downloading that stuff, please let us know
Cleanmaster! Its awesome

[Q] Need help Messaging force close

I am getting this error since yesterday
whenever I open messaging app on phone and select any text message, the app force closes. I cant delete any message also.
I cant send text message. I tried flashing different apks.
You use App2SD.. did you put the messaging app's data to your sdcard? Maybe there are some problems with the sdcard. Try another messaging app. If this one works, then there is a Problem with messaging app itself or the fact that something is wrong. If you also can't use the dialer or you can't call people it is maybe also related to the SIM card. Just check these things

As I said earlier I tried many different conversations.apk files I searched on forums etc. but nothing really worked. some didnt even get detected. I tried clearing dalvik, data cache etc. I havent put messaging app on SD card. Actually there is no app on sd card. all are in the internal memory.
Also, I can use dialer and all other apps. Only problem is with Messaging app. AppMgr pro app is just to clear cache

I know that application and with that one it is not possible to move data or system apps itself to the External SD

Try to clear data from the messaging application. Sometimes it works to also clear the phone apk itself.

Oh okay. Can you remember what you did before you saw it force closing the first time, what could have to do with it? Otherwise restore the system part of a nandroid backup (advanced restore and then system) if you have one.
AppMgr Pro III is App2SD
I took a Screenshot but unfortunately I can't send it, sorry.
