I have a galaxy Note GT-7000 with ICS 4.0.3 Kernal DDLP8. I am confused with all the rooting options available. Please suggest the most simple way to root my phone. i would like a step by step guide and at any point of time not lose any data in the phone.and I would like to keep the stock rom.
Also, I have heard that you should always discharge your battery to about 15% and than charge it back to 100% and not charge it in short cycles. For a good battery life. If that's true than how to stop the phone from charging when connected from USB to my laptop
Thanks

Rooting
Root Stock ICS ROM
This method works on the released ICS rom from Germany and I would expect it to work for the rest of the ICS roms due for release..
This method does not increase the binary counter or causes a yellow exclamation mark
Rooting
Download the Files first and put in your SDCARD [CWM zip][ SU-Busybox-Installer.zip][ SU-Uninstaller-signed.zip]
Reboot to recovery.
Choose apply update from external storage.
(Touch the screen as if you are using the phone to choose the options)
Choose CWM.zip and wait until CWM recovery appear.
Choose install zip from sdcard or external SD
Choose and Install SU-Busybox-Installer.zip
Reboot
You are done and now your device is Rooted
Unroot
Download this File first and put in your SDCARD
Reboot to recovery.
Choose apply update from external storage.
(Touch the screen as if you are using the phone to choose the options)
Choose CWM.zip and wait until CWM recovery appear.

You need to slow down and bullet point what your questions are. Why do you want to use KIES and if so explain setup and problems you're having.
All your answers to rooting questions are in Dr Ketan's thread. If your rom is directly rootable you'll need to go back to a gingerbread rom that is and then update again to ICS. Yes, you'll be able to use a custom rom later but you might need to install Clockworkmod depending on the installation instructions for your choice of rom.
Some GB rom will wipe but this is explained in the instructions.
You really need to stop asking questions and start reading a lot of threads and warnings, lest you make a factory reset while on stock rom and come back crying because you bricked your device.
Your situation is nothing new and has been asked a lot previously.

You also mentioned that your baseband is different... It should be! Your baseband is your modem which is different to the kernel. As above poster said, read the links that have been provided, read the op and then the first 10 pages of comments on each thread and you'll understand. If you still don't then don't flash, you're not ready.

Vary simple u can either download rom manager and then download a root API from ur computer and from there place it on ur sdcard. Then open rom manager and flash into recovery and u will be taken to ur phones bootloader. Find the root apk or zip and install. Even easier find z4 root on market or internet and from there its as simple as pushing the root button. I would go with this one.

i have done all the steps to root + CWM using the CF-Root method using the 'not-rooted-yet.bat'
manage to get CWM and superuser installed but everytime i go in to CWM. i get this message:
'This version of CWM Manager should be used with CF-Root v5.0 or newer. It appears you are running a different kernel. Various features have been disabled.'
My purpose is to flash to a custom ROM but i cant seem to get past this rooting part. tried most of the method suggested in forums but kept on getting the same error again and again.

Yes you are on nonrootable rom.
I giving u guideline here follow it.
1. If you have already any older rom on your hand, then just flash it with pc odin
Then get root + cwm,
After that, you can update to newer rom with cwm.
2. If you dont hav older rom handy, just find last link on my signature 'when other method fail.....' Follow that link, then you will have rooted rom.
After that u can get cwm/ mobile odin and update newr rom with it.

You won't be able to update officially as long as you are on custom kernel, first flash stock kernel for your stock rom and then update using kies. You can also flash stock GB firmware first and then update officially to 4.0.4.
You do not have to unroot to update using kies.
Jeetu1981,
Thanks. I think I'll go back to GB

That's great if you already have GB downloaded, if not then flashing kernel if much short and easy, you can do it using mobile odin. You may be already aware but still, do not try to wipe when you are on stock kernel. Better to wipe before you flash stock kernel, if you choose this way.
Not your fault

Boot loop is normal after flashing GB rom using odin, just boot in stock recovery and wipe data. But do it if you are sure that GB rom was flashed successfully? I mean did you get the "pass" message and all confirmation in odin? If yes then wipe in stock recovery.
No Joy

Your suggestion didn't solve the problem. I'm still stuck at the boot screen.
Mobile Odin initiated the reboot so I am guess it thought it had finished correctly.
Hope you have more ideas to share.

Thanks for trying.
Can you post log, what you getting while flashing GB ROM with PC odin
-Disable firewall/antivirus
-Change USB port, don't use extension cable for USB connection
-Rebbot into download mode
-Reflash GB ROM, and any error copy logs and post here.

This morning the nice folks at a Samsung service point, "fixed" my phone. We don't share a common language so all I was able to get out of the conversation was that it was "software" problem.
Here is how it stands now:

I assume that the changes resulted from whatever the service people did.
I would still like to get my phone back to stock but that seems like risky business to me.
My thanks to everybody lent a hand.
Hi there,

I am familiar with rooting did it a lot of times mostly on HTC devices but its very easier to get the goal.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360

Firstly you must get a "safe" kernel with root permissions, get odin , connect your note to pc with USB cable , start your note into download mode ( home -volume button and lock button at the same time )and flash the kernel.
After that, instal CWM and flash your custom rom ( home +volume button and lock button at the same time )
Not that big of a deal
So...
So I can simply flash the HydraKernel over Odin(Pc)? And after that how do i install CWM? Just use RomManager?

First xou have to root your device, then you have to install the cwm recovery, download the Rom and the gapps from a thread. Next you have to do a backup if you want to go back to 2.1. And after this you have to do a full wipe from recovery and then install the Rom and afterwards the gapps and then reboot.
Hope i helped
You can try superoneclick to root your phone. I was on 2.3.3 I9000M and rooted using one click tool. The tool supports many other models. Make sure USB debugging is enabled and all the drivers are installed. Connect your phone and turn on USB, choose auto under Exploit section and click root. Download the tool (Latest Version) from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
If rooting process is Successful, superuser will be installed automatically in your phone.

did you figure anything out? I found the firmware (2.3.3) for my model and country (Trinidad and Tobago) at samsung updates but my problem is that I don't know which Odin program to use for my model.
I was thinking about using the update method intended for the GT-I9000 to update my I9000T to gingerbread. Apparently the phones are identical except that the GT-I9000T supports 850 MHz 3G while the GT-I9000 supports 900 MHZ 3G instead. I am wondering if it will work without bricking my phone
