I have been having this strange wifi problem lately.. I am not able to connect to my home wifi network.
It says obtaining IP address but never connects.. This problem only occurred recently.. I was able use my home wifi before.
After googling around, i tried the following.
1. I went to advanced setting and used static IP. This time it got connected. But i was not able to connect to internet.
2. Did a factory reset.. Then flashed stock using ODIN. Still no luck.
3. I changed the encryption to WPA-PSK... Didnt work.
Can somebody help with this issue please?

I had this problem when I tried to update busybox. But since you have re-flashed stock.
Are you sure its a problem on your phone and not with the router? Try connecting to a different router.
Sent from my GALAXY Ace.
Remove the WiFi connection from your phone, click on forget.
On your router, from the configuration page, change the WiFi security to open then try connecting using phone.
If it works then remove connection from phone again (click forget), and configure your router to WPA or any other such algorithm. Then connect again.
My brother has this problem, have you tried other wifi networks? It may be able to connect to other routers. What does it say after "obtaining ip address", does it connect or do you get disconnected?

Hi.
I recently bought my s730. Quite pleased with it, but one thing bothers me.
When i connect to my wlan at home (zyxel_2602hw_d1a WPA-PSK TKIP) i'm able to connect to the router, but I don't seem to be able to get an connection to anywhere outside my own network. I tried using Live Messenger, IE, Opera and Skype, but nothing happens.
When I'm using GPRS or EDGE it all works smoothly.
Any suggestions?
Do you have your connection set to automatic or only through your phone network? I have seen a few problems with that.
Also, double check that you are entering wep or any other security protocol correctly, took my 6 tries before it would work, it looked like it was connected to the network but it really wasnt (just personal experience with this phone.)

I do have the connection settings in both IE and Opera set to automatic. I's there somewhere else I have to change settings?
I'm quite sure i typed the password correctly. I also checked the client list on the router and the phone showed up correctly.
Gah, cant remember where I saw it but there was a setting in the phone itself for what to connect to.
Another thing to try under the wifi connection open your saved connection and go into it and see if you have it set to connect to the internet or just to the private network under "network type" in the Wi-Fi sub menu of Wlan settings. Its late and I cant think right, i'll see about checking more into it later...
I solved this problem - change your WLAN security on your WLAN router only on exactly MAC adressee (no any WEP) and your Wings is allowed to connect and all will be OK, work OK - Skype, IE, Opera. Problem was only to find MAC adressee my Wings
Wing + WRT54GL
Hi!
I have an S730 and a Linksys WRT54GL router. I've tried to use wlan with my phone, but it doesn't working. I want to use WPA2 with AES without Radius. Is the WPA shared key (router) same to network key(phone)? without security and encryption, it's working well.. I cannot see any syslog. That could be so easy..

Did you check network settings? I mean e.g. if you don't use DHCP server and you didn't fill in right settings phone may connect to network but may not get outside. I know it can look like "lame" question, but sometimes even a master can do a newbie mistake..

usually it is in section WLAN Advanced setup - WEP Encryption - disable and in WLAN MAC Filters - active + allow asotiation with table of adress your Wings - aply . I have Zyxel Prestige 660HW.
I'm sure that DHCP is active, and that I get an IP.
I tried disabling security on my router, but same problem. Connects to my router, gets an IP but still nothing works

Your DNS are also provided automatically? Or could you ping (through some app) to any IP address of any server on the internet? If you succee, then we can look for a mistake with DNS.
Problem solved!!!

wifi problem
hello everybody,i have tried several times to connect to my router at home but no chance at the end i got this warning saying:
cannot log on to the wireless network this network requires a personel certificate to positively identify you.
Hi All,
I have a weird problem with my captivate of not connecting to my home network. Let me start by telling that I have searched the solutions and tried doing everything except full factory reset. I have rebooted the phone, done reset on my router (Wifi was working just fine earlier.. so I think settings was not an issue. But I still did it), I removed the file data/wifi/bcm_supp.conf and let it regenerate it. Captivate displays "Obtaining IP Address" and it just stays there. I also see that IP address is being assigned to captivate in my router
Captivate is rooted stock Froyo
Router security: WEP
form the Wifi list, I found one unsecured network and captivate connects to that router just fine (signals are very week though...). I tried removing the security on my router but it still stuck on "Obtaining IP address".
Can you please please help me?? As I mentioned earlier, It was working just fine and suddenly stopped working two days back.
These all app updates are eating away my limited data of 200M.
Thanks a millian.
What's your router model ?
What channel are you running on ?
Are others routers close to you running on the same channel ?
Have you tried another channel ?
Did you try WPA2 ?
Could be incompatibility with your router. That happened to me before with my old router. It didn't work with some cell phone wifi devices.
Sent using XDA App
Try using the app "FXR." I had the same issue a couple times and this app seemed to fix it. It took a few tries though. I think it might be a router problem. I use the Linksys wrt54g.
You could also try assigning a static IP address to your device on the router side, and then telling your phone to use that address. I've used that in the past to some success.
As a test, have you tried (temporarily) disabling the security on your router to see if it connects?
I have a similar problem since upgrading to the past 3 nightlies. My phone sees and connects to my home network and says it has strong signal, but when I try to access Market or Internet it says there's a network error and I can't get thru. My two computers (one hard wired and one wi-fi) don't seem to have any problem hooking in to the internet, just my SGS1

Does the 'FXR' app set up IP addresses?
The App didn't work for me. I tried that yesterday. I was reading the similar problems on some other site yesterday and I found the following that solved my issue. In case someone like me still struggling with the WiFi problem.
Delete file data/wifi/bcm_supp.conf
Delete file /data/misc/dhcp/dhcp_list
reboot the device and it will create these files again and you will have to enter your WiFi password again in order to connect.
I am really glad that my WiFi is working back again.
FYI, I'd change the WEP to WPA.

Where do you go to change that setting? I've been all thru the wi-fi settings and advanced settings, but didn't see anything that referred to WEP or WPA.
Just realized we're talking now about the router, not the phone, duh!
Yes, I certainly need to bump up the security settings on my router.

After i upgraded my galaxy tab wifi version with gingerbread using EU firmware, the "Wifi Turn On/Off" is behaving erractically. The Wifi won't turn off on trying to do so and will stay in status "Turning Off" all the time. After restarting the device, it will reboot with the WiFi turned on.
I tried factory reset and that sorted out the problem, till i configured the wifi connection and the problem returened back.
I any body else facing the same problem? Is it a problem with the firmware?

p1010 wifi problem I can not help. sorry...
This could be linked to the known DHCP lease problem.
Check the DHCP setting's on your router and ensure that the lease duration is something valid i.e. not infinity; set the lease duration of DHCP on your router to *anything* less than infinity.

There is no exact option of lease time in the router, but something called 'Idle Time' was there which had a value of zero, which i have changed to 999. Even after that the problem still exists.
Hi all,
i do have exact the same problem. I can not set a DHCP lease time on my router.
Does anoyone have a solution for this Problem with the Galaxy Tab P1010?

same issiu here..
I am using a GT-P1010 and am on the KPI firmware. I have been having intermittent connectivity issues which may or may not be related to what is being discussed here. Nevertheless I am going to try the following the next time my Wi-Fi drops out. You might want to do the same. While these may different issues, it might be worth a shot. Here is some information I have recently found.
Delete dhcp_list
Set Static IP
Basically (as mentioned by another poster above) these Tab's have issues when routers assign IP addresses using DHCP. Apparently the TAB retains the last known assigned IP address and try's to use it all the time. If your device was asleep and another device on your network grabbed that IP address, you are in for issues.
The dhcp_list file contains that information and if deleted the TAB will attempt to actually acquire a new IP address (lease) from your router. You must be rooted to delete that file.
The other option its to set a static IP. This will work great as long as you don't travel to another location and need to connect to another access point. If you do, you will need to return to the DHCP method of IP acquisition and your problems could return if you stay on that network long enough.
Lastly as discussed in some of the other forum posts from my second link above (great information in that entire thread btw) you can access your router and set it to assign the same IP address to your tab all the time. This will affectively insure that no other devices are able to acquire that address and you should be good from that point forward. As all routers are different I will not provide details of this method but it IS the BEST of all three options in my opinion. Basically you will need the mac address of your tab and it's current (working) IP address. Then set your router to assign that IP address to that MAC address.
Please post back if any of this works. Thanks!
Hi all.
I have set the IP Address in the Tab to a fix value and reserved the same IP Address in the Router for the TAB.
This does not solve the problem.
I can use WiFi perfectly. But when i try to disconnect my device by shutting down WiFi the device is stuck. The Button for WiFi is described as off, but the Color is green. And i am not able to reconnect to WiFi.
After rebooting the device it starts with WiFi turned on. In most attempts after rebooting i am able to turn WiFi Off.

Yeah .. sounds like a totally different issue then mine. Sorry it didn't work for you.
I solved the problem by downgrading to Froyo 2.2.1. Now WiFi works properly. The only problem is now, that i can not find all Apps in the Google Market.
And i am not able to activate the Screen Lock functions. I can set a PIN for unlocking but nothing happens.....

Hi.
I have the same problem, but it only happens when the wifi is open and has no password. If the wifi has password, it works fine.
My ROM is GINGERBREAD.XXKPG, 2.3.6.
Bye.
I recently restored a backup of my AMCHA 4.4.4 rom (from p.a.n's CM13) and I can now not connect to any wifi network. It always sits on Obtaining IP address. If I select static IP and enter the details I can connect but not by using DHCP. Is there any way to fix/reset my wifi settings?
Thanks

Hi,
You should try several thnings:
1. In WIFI settings, forget your WIFI network and connect again
Or
2. Fix permissions of the file below using a root explorer app. Set 'read' and 'execute' for "user" and "group'" (and also maybe "others" if no luck)
system/etc/dhcpcd/dhcpcd-run-hooks
Then reboot the phone and try to connect to WIFI
Or
3. Reset your router

I have a wifi problem too, whenever I try to connect to it, it says saved. It doesn't even try to obtain an ip.
tried flashing stock multiple times but nothing worked. it's not a router problem as I changed my router and tried with multiple wifi networks, same thing is happening. dhcpcd-run-hooks already has read and execute for user & group. tried other but still doesn't work.
I think I messed up with the wifi settings using the xposed module "Phone ID changer" as when I try it launch it now, Advertising ID, wifi MAC and Wifi SSID is unavailable. The app can't assign a random one. I don't have a nandroid backup, my SD card got corrupted a while ago and I lost all my backups.
Do you know how to fix it?

I already had your issue a few times but after forgetting the network and connect to it again, problem was solved.... It seems to not be your case.
If you also have the problem with every router you can try (Wifi at home, at work, from a friend, etc.), it means the problem is your phone.
If you already tried all 3 suggestions of my post without luck and if you think something is messed up in WIFI settings, it means flashing official firmware + FULL WIPE should fix your issue.
If it's not the case, you should:
- Google a bit more (although I'm pretty sure you aleady did that...) because that's what I'm doing right now to help you.
- Ask yourself if it's not a hardware issue?
Sorry if I don't help much more. I really hope you will find the culprit :fingers-crossed:
Thanks for the suggestions, still can't get it to work on any network.
I wanted to avoid a full wipe, but i guess I'll give it a go. Cheers!
