Is it safe to swap internal to external? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Basically my notes massively screwed, 250mb of memory left i can get it repaired if i brick it again under warranty but would i be able to swap all the files to an external memory card or would i need to create new partitions or anything? i would just rather keep my phone than have to wait on it getting fixed cheers

250 mb is almost useless, get it repaired dude !
What do you mean " would i be able to swap all the files to an external memory card or would i need to create new partitions or anything?"
When you get your Note back it'll be as good as new with all data wiped and you'll be able to do whatever you could do with it the first time you got it.

Do u mean to transfer some app to the external memory?
Try app2sd. Or link2sd. Both helps

hey what happened? why a huge memory loss on you Gnote?
some apps are compatible or can be transfer to your external memory using application App2sd.

You can use a back up instead through Titanium back up pro. And also for a secondary base back up files to your external_sd card. And don't wait before getting it repaired. Earlier the better.

Running Cyan's 4.2.15.1. - Apps installing to phone Memory

Hello Everyone, I was hoping someone could tell me if there was a quick fix or if I need to do a reinstall & add something that I didn't add.
I noticed today, my phone telling me it is running low on space & when I checked, it said I only had 9 megs left on the phone memory, however it did show I still had 465 megs on the secondary sd memory free.
I decided to try & install an app to see if the sd memory would go down or the phone memory. Well, the phone memory went down, but not the sd secondary.
I'm looking at the storage & unmount sd card & format sd card are "grayed out"
I also do have a \system\apps folder with some apps, along with the same one under \sd card\system\apps which that also has some apps.
Is there something I can do that can fix this? Or something else I need to check?
The only thing that I didn't do originally was create a swap partition.
Thanks
i believe if u reboot your phone all apps get thrown into ext partition. also try using cachemate , that will free up tons of space on your phone

If you want to have your apps on your sd card then you need an ext partition. You cannot currently house your apps on your sdcard.

When I back up is my memory card being backed up?

new to android. .I back up my phone using my backup pro and kies but what happens if I lose my phone. Most of my data etc is on my card.I know can copy and paste a copy of my card on my hard drive but that would be a pain to remember.
Thanks

not unless you specifically tell it to backup youer sd card, the backups are normally the main memory app/data
Thanks, so I assume if I copy and paste the memory card to my pc hard drive. ...so if I lost my phone or card got damaged I could just buy new card and past the copy and it would all work?
Thanks

Presumably. But only if you back up your memory card periodically when you change something on your phone which changes the files on the sd-card. otherwise you'll have different timestamps and filesizes. -> only related to apps you store on your memory card. music, pics and movies of course stay the same

Is there any way so that i can save my Android applications data files to SD card

Since i am using Samsung Galaxy Ace i am sure you all know that the biggest disadvantage of this amazing mobile is low internal memory , i am tired of putting all sorts of cache cleaner and android assistant and freeing up my space.
Is there any way or app which allows to save the data files of applications to SD card. One of biggest drawbacks is that the more apps you put in your Ace the more data files get saved in Internal memory ( obviously) but let me know if there is any way to save data files to SD card.
Thanks a lot in advance
Please do not give solution of making partition in your SD card. i am looking for a new answer

Try apps like Link2SD or A2SD

[Q] Accessing internal SD Card

Hi,
I am trying to access my internal SD card to backup my data before running a repair in pc companion but having terrible difficulties. In windows 8 via pc companion windows explorer just hangs and the most I have managed is to copy 300mb for 4gb from the phone. I cant even see or get my device seen in Ubuntu. Is there any way at all to get this part of my phone to be seen as mass storage like the external SD card is. I have been trying for hours and searching the internet with no success. All I want to do is back up my data so I dont loose it during the repair process.
Thanks
Lee
Think I have got my windows8 pc working on the transfer but says will take 23 hours!! Surely everyone doesnt go though this when doing a repair each time there must be a simpler solution I am missing here....

Issue still stands, however temporary solution of using es file explorer to copy all my internal sd card over to some space I freed up on my external sd card. out of curiosity can someone actually confirm whether or not I am wasting my time? Do the restore process actually completely wipe my internal SD card?

No, Nothing on either SD card is touched in an update or a repair from PCCompanion.
In an update only system partition is deleted
In a repair system and data partitions are deleted.
Internal and external SD cards are always left alone.
Nice one cheers for that clear up, I have alot of experience with Android but my first device with internal sdcard, warnings on PC Companion are a bit vague, didnt know if to be safe sony would just wipe the entire device during a repair which is a rather big bit of overkill I thought. Thanks for clearing that up. Still hunt for an ideal solution so access that sd card from a pc though grrrr

[Q] Using external SD Card as both internal memory and external SD

So my Captivate's internal memory died a few months back and my new phone's screen is broken so while I come up with the money to replace the LCD/digitizer I figured I'd experiment with the older Captivate to see if it was possible to run without internal memory.
Using some of the one click heimdall's from the sticky that return the phone to stock, it runs Gingerbread using the external SD I have as internal memory and I can flash CWM to it and the phone functions. Problem is, things such as the camera and most apps don't work properly, giving errors that there is no external storage and they can't run.
I've also noticed that after putting my phone in this state, formatting the external card puts the phone into an AT&T logo bootloop, only rectified by reflashing to stock.
So I was wondering, how do I force the phone to see two partitions on the external SD card as both internal and external storage so it can be used with normal functionality?
This thread may be of some help to ya... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21439417&postcount=1
