I done messed up - Nexus 7 General

I JUST got my nexus 7, i installed LCD Dencity Modder, i cant boot and im totally new to android. I had just rooted it. HELP!!!

Take a deep breath. Breath IN and out
use the nexus root kit in the dev forum to push the original firmware back to your device.. The awesome Developer has included all instructions on his thread.. Then learn a bit more about ANDROID. PLEASE ..
GOOD LUCK.. if this were not a nexus device you could have just thrown 250.oo away .. :highfive::good:
also there is a reset somehow. could be hold both vol up vol down and then push and hold power.. might take you into nv flash or stock recovery . not read much on this device as far as that. But will when its in my hand.

Thank You!!! im not normally this ignorant, but my total andriod usage probably ads up to <30mins.

I do know android, and I somehow got stuck at the Google screen. Tried to boot into recovery from ROM manager and now I just freeze at the Google screen. Cant get into recovery, only fast boot. Not at my computer right now but can I flash recovery from the fastboot menu? I tried resetting by using all three buttons but it just sticks at the Google screen

im not sure holding those buttons in that config is correct was just a guess. You should yes be able to push new recovery with fast boot. as this is how its useally done.. AS I Posted in the above i looked at the root tool kit . it looks as thou it has a auto push to restore the device . I ASSUMED it was nv flash or fast boot. Since i do not have the device i cant say for sure.
there is also some kind of small hole on the left side . This could also be a reset. again TRY AT YOUR OWN Risk. im only guessing on experience with other android devices .
I should stop replying to i need help threads until i know more of this device as its only guessing .
Good luck . let us know what you learn from getting you back to normal boot. will help avoid this stuff in future.

I have been able to use that combo for a hard reset on the device last night, but it doesn't seem to help with the loop I'm stuck in. I know that there is cwm recovery on here since I did a nandroid after I rooted. I did see the hole on the side but I had assumed it was a mic hole. Kinda afraid to stick anything in there I just got back to my parents from my sisters graduation party so I may try to give reflashing recovery a shot before I leave here. I'll post results when I hopefully have progress

OOOPS On the hole thing. your prob right .
As far as the combo doing hard reset. if its not fixing the boot looP its a soft reset . hard reset would restore your device settings .

There are actually two holes on the device; one on the top near the left corner, and another on the left side above the 4 pin dock connectors. Pretty sure these are dual mics for noise canceling, for the Google Now. I may be wrong, but still don't recommend sticking a paperclip in there.
Ok. On the WugFresh Nexus Root Toolkit that I used last night to unlock and root there is an option to unroot and relock bootloader. This is normally done over adb, which I did not have access to, but if you select the "My device won't boot" option, it will do it over fast boot. Now that my device actually booted up correctly, I am unlocking and re-rooting. All is good, despite now having to set everything up all over again.
On a side note, I highly recommend WugFresh's Root Toolkit. I used it for my Galaxy Nexus before when it was just a command line script that would do all of the work for you, now it is built with a complete GUI that makes things even easier.

[Q] Well, I screwed up, stuck into boot loop, any help or am I screwed?

I had a great working rom of CG7. Everything was working great. Then I installed the Battery Icon mod 1.0
I rooted my phone with Z4root, and used the rom manager from clockworks to apply the CyanogenMod 7 rom.
I have ADB installed, but I can never get it to connect to my phone. I was about to give up when I found Z4root. The use of z4root and rom manager made it so simple.
I had it all working great, loving it.....
Then I mess it up with a battery widget.
I performed a backup of my stock rom from within rom manager, and it is saved on the sd card. I can't access it because of being stuck in a loop.
If I pull the card, and use an adapter I can read it on my laptop most likely. But what to read it with, to apply it back to the phone?
I have superoneclick installed, but don't see how to use it either...
But since it appears I half to use ADB and I have been having no luck with it, is there any other options for me to try?
I thought I could use some key command such as home plus power to bring up the commands to read my recovery, wipe data and restore but am not figuring it out.
Maybe I'm just freaking out since I'm going on no sleep, but can anyone please help an eager to learn noob out?
I'd really appreciate it. Apologies ahead of time if this is the wrong sub-forum, but it looked the closest for this topic.
Thanks,
-Joe
dude first of all read the forum rules and watch your language no ones going to help u with that attitude. seconnd if u had bothered to look around first you would realize that there are about 50 threads on how to fix a boot loop.
Sorry for any bad language. I edited it out, sorry.
I had bothered to look around for about an hour, and all threads kept pointing me back to using ADB push commands which I haven't been having much luck with.
Do you know of a better way to fix a boot looping hero? Or can at least point me in the right direction, I can and am willing to learn more, but just keep running into the same answers.
Again, sorry about any language, but if you can spare a link in the right direction, I'd really appreciate it.
Have you tried pulling the battery and then restarting the phone by holding down the volume key ( down) and the power Burton at the same time? This will put you in the boot loader and if you push the" home" Burton that should put you into recovery. From there, wipe data, cache, system and either restore a backup ( IF you did a nandroid), or flash a new Rom.
Then, reboot.
You need to do lot more reading of different threads because you will see that bootloops are a common occurrence. Just because something is hero cdma does not mean it will work with your particular Rom. Battery mods are built for that specific Rom and that specific build ( like 5/23 aosp/cm7); a battery mod from April probably won't work.
Flashing IS a gateway drug!
Reflash cm7 and don't try the batt mod anymore.

Sent from my CDMA Hero. I got some hot Ginger-on-Hero action here!
As far as your adb issue. If you tap on my avatar you can find my thread on how to install adb on windows it might help you as you might just be having problem with the htc drivers. Also if you need help with installing it just pm me. And if you haven't figured out your bootloop problem hit me with a pm and if I can help I will. Good luck.
#Root/Hack-Mod_Always*
*hooray*
"holding down the volume key and the power Burton at the same time"
This did the trick this time, phew
This was the menu I was looking for. I reflashed my stock rom and all is well.
Then I just reflashed CM7 and will be avoiding the battery app. Lost all my settings because I hadn't backed up my CM7 rom (doh, live and learn)
Yes I can see that flashing IS a gateway drug! Once you get more comfortable and start understanding it, it is addictive to keep going further and further lol.
I'll keep messing with ADB, as I did get it to see the phone, just it has been 15 years since my days of messing with basically MS-DOS for all my command lines.
I was able to see the phone at one point but keep having trouble getting to the tools directory to start via DOS.
I'm hoping as I read more that maybe there is a better GUI for rooting and modifying other than ADB.
Thanks for the help, now I feel a little better equipped to go further.

Recovery - Red exclamation mark and red triangle.

- Did google searches and on here but my problems seem different to others or I don't understand the solution.
I installed the stock orange latest rom not knowing it would rid me of root and all that so I'm trying to get back to recovery so I can nanbackup back to leedroid.
What I have done so far -
1) Downgraded (was an absolute pain, took many attempts seems that rooting twice screws things over)
2) Rooted using visionary+ - comfirmed I am rooted
3) Installed rom manager and reflashed recovery with it.
4) Open recovery and get a Red exclamation mark in a red triangle.
Interwebz tells me this means I have no recovery or am not rooted. I am rooted and I have reinstalled recovery.
What have I got to do to fix this?
Please do help
:EDIT:
had an idea while trying to cold boot into it it is reading the file i have on there to downgrade with and I think that is causing the problems.
:EDIT2:
didn't fix it. Sigh. Really need help guys.

ok my friend this could happen because you are not ablr to root the DHD perhpahs it has the last OTA or used an RUU to actualize to last version, doublecheck the firmware version on the phone, then i will explain a little more (i know its painful already have been victim by the rooting process)
good luck
I am getting so god damn pissed off with this. As I took my battery out for the 100th time I thought to my self mmm this is gonna break if I'm not careful and out pops my volume rocker. Had to bend it to get it back in. Don't evne understand why this is all happening. I did this all fine the first time around.
Firmware is 132.405.6
The rooting isn't the problem, its recovery which is.
Just discovered holding up and pushiung power button is meant to get you into CWM but i get "E:can't open /cache/recovery/command"
Annoyingly it lets me reboot and would ahve saved my volume rocker
:EDIT:
Christ I forgot to plug my phone up to the pc and run s-off. What a bloody moron.
I couldn't hate my self much more right now *strokes his bent volume rocker*
:EDIT2:
S-OFF didn't fix it either :/
Infact I can now no longer boot into recover, it freezes at the HTC logo.
Now that you have S-OFF, go to ROM Manager and reflash the ClockworkMod.

That didn't work, I had to manualy install it in the end. I now have V3.0.0.5 but I can't restore my backup because:
E:Format_volume: no MTD partition "boot"
What does this mean and how do I fix it? I need to get that backup back! It has everything :O
That backup was made with a V3 CWM. But I hear I need V2 to use with froyo? GAHHHHHHHHH.
Got to downgrade CWm now I guess. EURGH!
Rom manager wouldn't downgrade but I tryed upgrading to 3.0.0.6 in a hopeful attempt and appears to be working XD.
Then after alllll this I have to find out how to fix my echoing as it works on the stock rom so must be something i need to do to leedroid. I'm thinking radio change?
so i assume you finally downgraded to a "rooteable" android version... if still need help, send a PM so i will try to help u!
good luck!!

STUCK on Android is Updating" Starting Apps Swirl"

Okay, so now we have 3 Atrix HD's in the house and except for the unremoveable battery thing, and the short "battery life" when actively using it, I'd say we pretty much love them. However, I decided to remove some apps, etc. and managed to get my messages, camera and gallery to the "not working" and basically non-existent point. Now on startup I'm getting the Android is Updating message with the never-ending swirl of Starting Apps... I'm positive I've waited long enough as I set it down and went back to bed just to wake up and still see it.
Info - phone IS rooted
running the "jellybean" update
Unfortuanately a couple weeks ago, I UNCHECKED the sync photots for both facebook and gmail, so there are pictures I really don't want to lose.....
I'm definitely not a "pro" like lots of them up here, but am capable of following directions. I'm pretty sure I have to "unroot" my phone via USB/SD card through my laptop....Any help would be greatly appreciated... and the more specific the directions the better!! :cyclops: LOL... Thanks so much.

Okay, here's where we're at.... it is no longer frozen on that screen and goes thru the setup w/ my gmail, etc.... but then I have a black screen (except for the top row icons...). I can pull down the settings menu and see everything there, but I have no "homescreen"....It's black. It seems like we're in the right direction and I know it's not dead. Anything??
Also wanted to thank you for the help. This place is ALWAYS amazing....
Hey, my son and I are wondering since it's already running 4.1.1 and we can't downgrade, what about flashing a custom rom? Will that flash a totally complete, full home page and everything?? Just a thought.
While trying to search for answers I came across a "xoom forums??" post with a tablet that was doing exactly the same thing....multiple people had that problem, but doesn't seem to have been answered...... not sure if I'm suppose to post links to that or not, but at least I know I'm not alone.....
If you're rooted, than I'm assuming ADB debugging is on. You should be able to unlock your boot loader and load CWM recovery. From there you can wipe cache and dalvik cache. If that doesn't help, you can reflash a stock ROM zip from Skeevys thread. Flashing a zip won't touch your SD card
There is official 4.1.1 available...you can try flashing that...you dont need to downgrade.
Okay, my son installed safetystrap (whatever that is...lol) and when you click Operating system, it says "there is no operating system installed are you sure you want to reboot????
Is this fixable?
Note: We have two other identical Atrix HD's in the house if that helps for any reason.....
Well that's what we are trying to figure out is how to install OS...Lol..
Try install system using fastboot... Look for skeevedudes guide...its in this forum somewhere...

LOL....okay, so do yoiu see why my son says I'm not "ALLOWED" to have a rooted phone if this happens again..... Guess I was just glad to SEE it written out, so that it's a little more def what's going on - but I'm sure everyone up here (except me) already knew that!!!
He's not around today, so my phone is just "sitting" saying "creating rom slot" but never gets off that screen. The good thing is that we can see it's actually charging and we weren't sure before....... Does this sound like something that will eventually be repairable??
You have a soft brick...yes it is fixable...
Okay, thought I had already posted this before but I guess I never hit the submit ....
Before safety strap was installed, we could get the phone (minus the homescreen and os) to come on....the settings, wifi etc.....No we can't seem to get to that point with the safetystrap on. It just goes completely blank and won't let safestrap connect to the computer via usb.
Apparently there is also no way to remove SS without an opperating system. This doesn't sound promising.....ugggg..... I so want my phone back.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
OK dude. Follow my instructions.
Hold down power and both volume buttons all at once until the phone screen turns black, then continue holding the volume buttons. You will get a menu. Go to AP fastboot mode using the volume down button, select it with the volume up button. Plug your phone into your computer with a data cable. Download RSD lite and the MOTOROLA drivers from the MOTOROLA website. Install both. Download the 4.1.1 sbf file for your phone, there is a thread for it here in the AHD forum. Its a zip file, extract it to your desktop. Open RSD lite, click the browse for file button, select the XML file inside the folder you just unzipped. Hit flash. If you get any errors, let me know I'll send you a different XML file with the getvar lines removed.
Okay, will get it started..... Thanks so much. My son has been working on this for hours and hours. You have no idea how much I appreciate this place and everyone who helps out!! You guys rock! Will let you know what we get.

I bought a droid incredible s today and it was going into the hard rest menu ( power down and volume down ) and i downloaded a new firware for it of here and was getting ready to install it and now it wont go into the hard rest menu. I don't know what happened... Any tips would be greatly appreciated
Uhm.. could it be that you flashed firmware of another device?
which one do you have?
Incredible S or

If you did a Wipe Data/System Reset from the boot loader menu, you have reset the device settings and the FASTBOOT option is now enabled which prevents you from getting into the boot loader.
You need to boot the phone normally and then disable the FASTBOOT mode and also turn on adb debugging mode while you are at it.
In order to flash the custom ROMs on this forum, you will need to unlock the boot loader and then install a custom recovery.
Sounds like you need to do some more reading and studying about how to successfully mod your IncS.

Also this is really impossible unless:
1. You have brick (which could be possible considering the fact that it seems you don't know what you are doing based on what I read)
2. You have no battery left (which could also be fully possible)
Like tpbklake suggested, I really do encourage you to read a bit more. Screwing these little things up really could lead to a dead phone.
Firmware update was a over the air update from verizon. Nothing out of the normal. And i haven't done anything to brick the phone. It just wont go into bios now. I didn't install anything just tried factory restore of bios menu.

If you got an ota from Verizon, then you have a droid inc 2 which has it's own forum. Although they are very similar, you cannot run the ROM on this forum.
Did you read my previous post about System Reset will disable you from getting into the boot loader screen? You need to disable FASTBOOT mode and then you should be able to get into the boot loader screen.

If phone doesn't boot...

Well, I was browsing around the market and my n5 just abruptly shut itself off. It hasn't been able to turn back on since. I've tried every key/charge/magic trick in the book so its DEAD!
Happy to jump in the RMA line at this point but was wondering if any others can confirm DEAD devices. The RMA thread is kinda full of nitpick issues but a dead device is a dead device.
This was the only discussion chain I could find on the issue but maybe someone from google will comment on dead devices. lol
https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!msg/nexus/lI6A3fA8bvw/d3eQlqEqabEJ
EDIT:
so it appears holding down both volume buttons + power while it's plugged in to the charger (not USB to PC) will temporarily boot the phone. You can then do a restore to stock and issue gets fixed. :good:
Damn. That blows.

Ya I got an RMA setup but I've been tryin to turn it on ever since. I managed to figure out it will turn on ONLY when it's plugged in and holding down BOTH volume buttons and power. It will bring up the bootloader and from there I can go into recovery, START (os) but reboot options freeze it again. It's really weird, it won't start by doing the same procedure without the power plugged in. It's like it doesn't want to boot on its own cuz it thinks it's dead? Funny thing is the battery says 100%+ in TWRP.
Since I was able to get it booted tethered to the power I'm going to have it drain the battery to dead and see if it resets itself or something. Maybe a bad idea but I guess I don't care at this point it's already RMAd and I don't know what else to try. lol

Why wouldn't you? In situations like this, it is extremely helpful. Do you expect him to install CWM or something? From my understanding, at least when I first got my phone and flash a custom recovery, CWM wasn't booting. If you are here to try and press your opinion on which custom recovery you prefer, go to their official thread.

Yep all good now. No explanation to why this happened but recreating the fs and flashing stock seems to have resolved the issue.
