[Collecting data] Some for those who already have their tablets. - Nexus 7 General

I've recently noticed some people reporting that their tablets are exhibiting a couple issues including light leakage, bezel separation among others. I want to get an even sample rate so that my findings are not biased, so I have setup a form.
even if your tablet is perfectly fine, please fill it out. i still have a few questions for you.
If you would like to help me you can do so here
The results are made public here

Glad I could help ya out

I was just thinking of doing this. Thanks for this thread I'll submit mine when my tablet arrives

Hate to be that guy but... Bump to first page.
Very eager to see more people fill I this survey.

Sweet,What a great idea!!! It looks like the best place so far was the PlayStore. Thanks for doing this

Perhaps you should add whether the model was the 8GB or 16GB to see if they're are quality control differences.

Good idea for trending and seeing what "really is going on in userland". I'm filling out, but will be returning mine for a hopeful replacement due to a dead pixel and some slight screen flashing.

Done....hope my input help.

Thanks for creating this! I'll be sure to update when I receive my tablet.

Just got mine in Portugal (courtesy of Ebuyer UK, Borderlinx + DHL).
It's flawless, really. I have no screen issues whatsoever (no bezel separation or raised display, dead pixels and leakages of any kind). I've always been lucky with my gadgets.

EDIT: Survey filled

Same here, ebuyer UK ->forward2me in Holland. No complaints, just very happy.

Nice thread! Where do you post the results?

Problem on a thread like this - the ones with problems are many times more likely to see this thread and submit. Thus making it hard to get an accurate statistical probability for each problem.

May want to include a spot for Serial Numbers to see if it was a bad batch or if it is QC...

True, the stats will be a little misleading. Not to mention the other 90% (that's a stab in the dark) who don't post on this site at all. Still think its a great idea though.

While I appreciate you taking the time in making a video, I really don't see the need or value in it.
There are already dozens (probably more) of Nexus 7 unboxings for the 8GB and 16GB models. The 32GB is identical in every way, outside of the internal flash chip. Nothing new to see.
Of course, you are right, there may be many others unboxing video about Nexus 7 in 16Gb and 8GB version.
Maybe someone hasn't seen them yet and wants to see directly the 32gb one.
Maybe I'm giving more technical specs than others, maybe not (did you see my video before this post?).
Maybe someone wants to know what version does this nexus come with?! Maybe not!
I shoot this video just for my pleasure (and I hope for someone else pleasure too!), at night ('cause I have a job and a family) and, most of all, without earining a single damn penny for it.
I'm sorry if I did bore you: next time maybe you can even just skip a thread like this if you are not interested!
Thanks
Too many unboxing videos and reviews also 32gb have nothing different specs wise except 16+gb. And yes there are 32gb reviews in YouTube already.

What's the difference of unboxing 32gb one from 16gb one other than the invisible on camera additional 16bg storage.
There's nothing new to see there sorry pal.

I tried to report as many technical specs as I could in the video. If you watched it, you can remember when I talked about the downclocked frequencies of the GPU. I haven't seen many videos having in deep review of technical aspects. Maybe someone could appreciate it, while someone else just doesn't care.
That's why I though that this unboxing could be interesting.
Anyway, no one is forcing you all from watching it if you don't care. I lost my sleep time for shooting these videos and it's not that nice reading some of you saying the video is useless without even watchin' it!

You seem to be missing the point. No one is attacking you for making the video. Everyone has been polite about the matter (except for you). What everyone is simply saying is, that there is no purpose in making an "unboxing" video for a product that was released 4 months ago. No one is going to watch it since everyone here already unboxed their own. The purpose of those types of videos is for when a product first comes out, so people who haven't picked theirs up yet, or are on the fence about buying one, can see what it's all about. And while your video might have some more technical information in it, most people on XDA are already well familiar with the specs and details. And the fact that it has 32GB is irrelevant. It's like making a duplicate car test drive video for a new model that has a different A/C filter in it.
Lastly, if all you wanted was positive feedback, you probably shouldn't have posted anything on the Internet in the first place.

Am I asking you for a positive feedback? Can you please point me where?
I'm open to any possible feedback, when the feedback it's a constructive one.
I don't think I've been unkind or unpolite in any ways. Instead, I do think it's unpolite and even unfair to judge someone else video without even watching it. As well as it's unpolite (and not only) to believe to be representative of a whole community. Do you think XDA is made up only of skilled people? Do you think the whole XDA members live in Us?
I do perfectly know what does an unboxing video means as well as I know Nexus 7 was announced in June and went on the market middle July in Us and Australia. But maybe you don't remember that not every country has Nexus 7 yet, or that maybe in some others it went on sale later (here in Italy nexus 7 @16GB started being sold on late September/ beginning of October, while Nexus 7 @32Gb will start at middle November).
Having these thoughts in my mind and considering that I tried to be as more technical as I can, I just though that this unboxing could be useful to someone, if not, I'm not forcing anyone in watching it.
Thanks for your constructive feedback anyway.

this, was the most useless. the OP asked "tell me what you think". so everyone did, in a pretty polite way. this thread should just be locked. its a 3-4 month old device. no one is dying for the device to be released or leaked photos, its been out. not to mention he already opened the device, took off the plastic, and just put it back in to make a video. should be called a nexus 7 review video, not a unboxing.

People who have issue with the video, why don't you guys just skip it. As per your logic there are several flavors of AOSP roms, and people should stick with only one and rest of the dev simply call it a day. If you guys cannot appreciate someone's work then don't criticize is either.

First Batch of Nexus 4 a trial run by Google?

Many people have been toying with the idea that, the Nexus 4, being a Nexus device, could be riddled with bugs and glitches at the time of release, and thus have only placed a small amount of stock for sale so those issues only stay among a small amount of people.
The guys at Google, instead of testing for hours on end, let the public do so, and then check up on sites, like this one, for issues people have with the phone and thus fix it up. This could explain why the Bumpers are already stocked, but the phones themselves are looking to be released Black Friday, several days after, and this time, with a whole lot more stock as they have to take into account the back orders, as well poor guys like me who missed out.
What are your thoughts on this?
Wouldn't that be unfair to the people who managed to buy it out first? I mean they are essentially paying the same amount for a phone that is supposed to have the kinks sorted out already, not pay to have a phone in beta testing. But I really hope this is the case, and Google not only sorts out these issues but also offers compensation to the early adopters as to make everyone happy and fair!
Tin Foil Hat time for you i think...

Doubtful. I just don't think Google anticipated it being quite so popular. Worst of all, they allowed you to purchase up to 5 in one hit, which more then a handful of people did. 1-2 max on launch and up to a week or two after in my opinion. This would have ensured 'a lot' more people actually got a phone and it would have stopped eBay being flooded with N4's by people looking to make a quick buck.
Every nexus phone is trails . We get it test it Google updates other OEM make there phones with the new version. As far are you tin foil hat about a multi billion dollar company not testing I doubt that

I wasn't expecting a happy ending - that would have been insulting.
But, it should have been done better. It's like we've spent the last 7 years getting to know someone inside out, and then they change in the last 5 minutes of the show into something completely different. Is anyone else reminded of Anakin's 5 minute journey to The Dark Side? It was just badly portrayed.
Apparently though, the last series was meant to span over at least 2, which is where the rumours about it having another series to go came from. They did cram in too much story and that spoilt it.
The last series was rubbish for me. It pretty much killed my appreciation for what had come before.

Maybe they crammed too much story that's why people were expecting a somewhat different ending. I feel that the reason why he succumbed into seclusion was because of his very nature. We know Dexter as the person who is known for taking decisions no one could.
But I agree to the point that they did cram too much story in last season. Though it's disappointing to see him like that but he could not have done anything else accounting to his very character.

Z1! Problem free?

Hey all, I recently bought the Nexus 5. The first handset I had to return due to screen hardware problems. The second is in fully working order. I am however not adjusting to the Nexus very well. It does not feel premium and its got glitches and bugs that are most annoying (Noise cancellation microphone cancelling out my own voice, for example..) I have just ordered the Z1 as I had the Xperia J and loved it before moving to the N5, despite it being slow and old it worked and made calls (lols). Is the Z1 problem free?

3) If you really wanted to know if it was problem free do you not think it would be better to ask before ordering it
4) All the information about any "problems" are all in the general or Q&A section, just give them a read.
I have genuinely thanked you for your troll post as it made me laugh.

There are no real 'problems' perse. The software is pretty much bug-free. Only big thing I can think of that needs improvement is Superior Auto mode on the camera. Other that there are some hardware stuff that cant be changed (viewing angles).
Thank you for your reply. I'm not too worried about viewing angles. I know it annoys a lot of people on a range of devices but to be honest it has never bothered me. If that's the only hardware thing then I'm not worried. The Nexus 5 has quite a few and I'm just not wanting the same hassle. I already ordered the Z1 as I knew if there were problems, being a Sony device then they would only be mild.

Anyways, We cannot say Xperia Z1 is problems free.. No phones are 100% perfect, so Z1?? Some common issues on Z1 are, Display yellow tint (not all the phones, but some), touchscreen, lil low sound, bootloader unlock .. all can be fixed.. even bootloader problem if you take a backup of TA before unlock the bootloader.. so dont worry about anything,. just buy and experience the premium device.. you can see the fixes on this Z1 forum.. By the way the viewing angles are not an issue.. in my phone angles are pretty good.. Best of luck.
Thank you Azam. Your advise has been helpful. I now have to choose between my Note 3 and my Z1 when the Z1 arrives in an hour.

Have you seen what he has commented on recently, and what I too have seen starting to overflow the forums since 2012.
Stupid questions!
I'm talking particularly about those who come in an registers as member just to start a new thread to write or start bickering about something they don't understand.
At the same time there is a thread two inches down that explaines it all.
You can't expect every skilled person in here to make a 1000 word essay everytime someone asks how to get in recovery etc.
Someone needs to be told that they actually have to put in work to get what they want.
In this day and age where the internet containes so much, it boggles my mind that they don't even know how to use keywords on google.
Yet they don't even think twice before jumping in and bricking their expensive device, ignoring all warnings in the process.
It is nice that with alot of members, developers has a bigger audience to test their stuff and get feedback.
There are of course many more advantages, but I'm not going to name them all.
The members I'm thinking of are quite easy to spot. You can see they haven't invested any time here or contributed/participated.
They just come in frustrated, questioning and swearing over what a bad buy, should never have trusted this company etc etc.
To feature some experiences and such I think is quite ok, especially in accessories and apps.
There isn't exactly a shortage of android forums, why can't they share their feelings there?
xdaDEVELOPERS anyone?
I'm not trying to give the impression that I'm a developer, and I am thankful for being allowed here at all.
But I do try to read up on stuff, so as to save the time of those poor souls who actually bothers to help the people who don't want to help themselves.
Just wanted to say that I have received my Z1 and straight away I can see the quality compared to my Nexus 5 and Note 3 is amazing. Such a good solid build that fits well in my hand. Noticed the yellow tint on certain webpages people have talked about but as the screen is capable of showing white pixels, I'm guessing this is a software bug that will eventually be ironed out. And if not, its not something that would bother me.

Kindly test also if you have the touchscreen problem.. I think that the yellow tint and touchscreen problem dont co-exist. You will have either one of them or a black screen or overheat OR a perfectly working Z1
