because u r not using Windows 7. Windows 7 have Virtual Wifi driver which other Windows OS doesnt have.

update your network adapter driver..
I had this problem but when updated the driver it solved..

a more simpler solution would be to download and install VIRTUAL ROUTER on ur wifi enabled laptop. open in, set up username n password, then press start. after tht just turn on wifi on ur phone, scan, select, enter password. done!

yes the reason can be, outdated drivers , old wifi card ,or old OS , use win 7 or 8 , latest drivers of your wifi

From my experience, access Point method might not be available for 2 reasons:
1) old wifi card as you said
2) you need windows 7 or above
So I believe the name of this thread is misleading as you are NOT using Ad-Hoc to share internet.
It's more a work-around, or alternative to ad-hoc.
A little disappointed as soon as I saw "connectify" in the OP.
On a side note, I'm surprised no one has yet modified the WPA_Supplicant for JB to support Ad-Hoc connection.

Not a development
This is a development thread, meant only for development. Please see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1769247. This is a "tips and tricks" rather than a development, so it should be posted in Galaxy S II General.
Mod should close/move this thread.

At this moment i can boot but i can't use my phone because i have to login with a google account but i have no data connection.
The only way how you can fix that seems to be to downgrade. I cant downgrade because i cant flash dreaimg.NHB because i can't use USA or GB versions those give an error message. I also cant seem to find an europian version.
Its kinda frustrating because i'm a N00B and have no idea about goldcards ect. can anyone help me i want to use my G1

If you are running a ROM that has USB Debugging enabled by default (pretty much all custom ROMs do this) you can use ADB to setup wifi during the google setup.
Just google around and you'll find it...
If you aren't running a custom rom... Can you use a friend's SIM who has a data plan? and just sign up that way?
EDIT: you got a facepalm pic cuz this is in the wrong section. Some people like to be dicks about that stuff.

there's how to setup wifi with ADB
I had the same problem for months, the problem is that dutch G1's won't accept UK/US DREAIMG's.
I used this guide on a dutch android site to finally get it rooted and everything seemed to work perfectly, try this and PM me if you run into any problems, I'll try to help.
edit: Apparently I'm not allowed to post external links, so I'll PM it to you instead.

Which ROM are you using? if it's anything other than an official ROM, you should have USB debugging enabled by default, in which case you dont need to downgrade or anything, just get adb setup on your computer, then enter that command in your computer's shell while the phone is connected and you are at the setup screen. It will pop up the wifi settings box where you can configure your connection and then resume setup as normal.
Also, you could just flash any of the numerous Hero/Sense roms out there, the HTC setup wizard lets you configure Wifi during setup

i have the official 1.6 rom, i try to install the SDK because windows doesn't recognize the phone
Enomther's TheOfficial ROM?
Or you have the official vendor-supplied ROM that came on your phone? If this is the case, USB debugging won't be enabled by default :\ You'll have to find someone who will let you borrow their sim with a data plan

Problem Solved?
Here you go! First you must downgrade. I performed this same procedure found here: http://forums.t-mobile.com/t5/Opera...-need-to-modify-your-Android-phone/m-p/173419
Also, to get your PC to recognize your android, you must install the USB and ADB drivers posted below. There are links to the drivers and the best solution for getting setup to activate the G1 over WiFi.
Be patient, I had to try a few times myself before I got it right.

REVERSE TETHERING. :-) for Galaxy mini s5570

all this is the work of the following member.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=3083768
i just posted this as MANY ANDROID USERS AREN'T AWARE OF THIS GREAT FEATURE...
Tethering is the ability to surf on your PC using the 3g of your phone
Reverse tethering is the opposite : surf on your phone using the ADSL of your PC.
This work only for rooted users..!!! it works for ACE , MINI , GIO , FIT
Download the ZIP file from the following link to your PC.
http://www.mediafire.com/?0cz0vxv4qu34uv5
Installation :
Unpack the zip file on your PC. This zip files contains the windows part, ADB and the android APK.
Before starting the tool :
Ensure you have debugging enabled on your phone :
Settings > Applications > Development > USB Debugging > Turn On
Ensure you have root access AND Super-user application installed.
Change the superuser settings (Menu -> Preferences -> Notifications part) :
Uncheck "Notifications" label to display "Do not show notification when an app is granted Su Permissions"
AndroidTool
The AndroidTool.exe is the windows part
The low level communication tool (ADB) is included in the zip file.
AndroidTool will try to find ADB in c:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools\adb.exe
If not found he will use the provided one.
The first time you use the program :
If you want to use another version of ADB, clik "config" and in the first tab enter the path to the ADB
Select the DNS server to use in the right list. On complex system, some dns can be detected.
Start reverse tethering
Just click “Connect”.
If it's the first time you use the program, This will install the latest android package and the dependencies (busybox and redsocks).
The SuperUser process may ask you to allow “Usb tunnel”
If the android process crash after receiving superuser rights, close the windows program and start again.
The android interface (first tab) will show connections forwarded to windows.

}
Others tabs are just for debugging (give information about system route tables and connections). Not yet finished.
Start your browser
Google chrome will complain that no connection is available. Don’t care. JUST KEEP REFRESHING. and it will finally work.
Firefox , opera and dolphin don’t have problem with that !!!
Other apps :
The system detect automatically ports like http (80), https (443) , Market (5228),UDP ports like DNS, ...
You don't need to add static ports in the windows program (config / ports).
So unless the application is not well written, it must work.
I suppose more than 95% of the applications which require GPRS/ WIFI will work.
the apps which are not working are
MARKET (u can surf the market but you cant download it..)
SKYPE.
please post any other application which is not working.

also this version seems to be 2.24, so its very old. So make sure to check the original thread quoted in OP and use that version since it has many improvements and fixes.

●●[ROOTED][GUIDE]Wifi Reverse teTher-Windows and Ubuntu-Ad hoc Networks●●

●●[ROOTED][GUIDE]Wifi Reverse teTher-Windows and Ubuntu-Ad hoc Networks●●
This guide teaches you to reverse tether your Android phone via WiFi. That is, it allows you to use your Ethernet connection of PC on your Android phone. It is useful for those who do not have WiFi routers and data connection. So if you have unlimited data plan for your computer, why not share the connection with your phone?
I am not the developer of the files supplied
Requirements:-
1.Rooted Phone
2.Wifi enabled Laptop or PC
3.Root explorer or any other application which gives system access
4.File in the attachement
Procedure :-
Phone:
Download Wpa_supplicant.zip and extract "wpa_supplicant" from it, save it on your SD card.
Open Root Explorer, and grant it superuser access when asked for.
Navigate to system -> bin and long press on wpa_supplicant; Select copy, and paste the file into any folder on your SD card.
Now navigate to the file you downloaded, copy it in same way, and paste it back to system -> bin. Note, you might need to mount the system as R/W instead of R/O by pressing a button on the top just before pasting the file.
Reboot.
▬▬Ubuntu (Must work for other Linux Distros too)▬▬:
Open Network Connections
Goto Wireless tab, select add, and set the following:
SSID: <Any_name_you_like>
Mode: Ad hoc
Leave other things unchanged, and go to Ipv4 settings tab
Set method to Shared to other computers
Go to Wireless security tab and set Security to WEP 40/128 bit key and set key to a numeric password (or hexadecimal one).
Check the connect automatically box on top of the tabs and press Save.
Your Android phone must now detect this network, and you can establish the connection by using your security key.
▬▬Windows XP, Vista, 7▬▬
Download and Install Connectify from www . connectify.me/download-lite/
Start Connectify Hotspot by giving a name and password to your hotspot and selecting the Ethernet connection to share. Make sure the security type is WEP or Open.
Disable your firewall (Simply adding it to exceptions doesn't work for AVG at least)
Now your phone should be able to see the hotspot and establish the connection using the password set.
Known Issues :
1.Random disconnections (Very less frequency)
2.Disconnections due to screen lock / sleep on laptop
3.For me Security mode does not works
HIT THANKS IF IT WORKED
ENJOY

Change MAC [root]

Welcome.
I note at the outset that I am a new user forum XDA and a half years ago I started my adventure with android (android modding, improvement, etc) so please be understanding and patience. HTML is not well known and I do not know much about writing instructions or Toturial, so my work will look like a typical "written on quickly."
THIS METHOD IS WORKING ON GALAXY MINI 2 JENA STOCK SOFTWARE 100% !!
And more to the point ...
I decided to help many people solve the problem of connecting to the Internet via WiFi access point.
Guidance applies to only those who have an access point or router WiFi, which connects to only a desktop or laptop impossible to connect other devices by encrypting the MAC addresses.
So if we want to connect our android to the internet via WiFi, you will need access to ROOT and ROOT Explorer available in the market play.
The whole procedure is to change the MAC address handwritten.
Photos and instructions:
First of all TURN ON WIFI. Why? Because Nvmac.info the file appears only when wifi is turn on.

1.Install root explorer and add SuperUser permissions and then in root explorer show hidden files.
2.Mounted as r/w and serach data folder.
3.Search .nvmac.info
4.Click for a second on .nvmac.info and click Open in Text Editor.
5.Here edit the MAC address on which you are interested.
6.Click permissions and do r -- r -- r -- (read v group v others v).
7.If the MAC address of the previous kidnap please premissions previously set only write and then edit and click save, then turn off and turn on phone and then delete file .nvmac.bak.
Thats all. Good Luck.
This method does not compromise in any way to your device. You do not have to worry about brick your device or any damage it.
IF THE GUIDE WAS HELPFUL, PLEASE CLICK THANK YOU.
In case of any problem, please write in this post, I'll try to help everyone individually.
This guide is my property, and I ask you not to copy it to the other forums. Thanks in advance.
Did you test this ? It looks like it's completely changing the MAC of the device instead of faking it .
And even if it does work , what happens if 2 devices with the same MAC will try to enter the same network ?
Just to clarify for everyone what this is intended to do : if a router has MAC filtering on (allows only devices with specified MACs to connect to the network) , you would need to change your MAC and you could connect after that (ofc considering there's no WPA key and everything , it's just an example) . On Linux it would work by faking it with macchanger , but I have no idea if this is stable on Android and if it will damage the phone in any way , as it seems you are manually editing the actual MAC of the device and not faking it .
I don't recommend doing this unless you know what you are doing or unless we have proof that it works . zalukajonet please let us know if you tested it PERSONALLY on Galaxy Mini II and if it worked . Would be nice if this truly works . Thanks!

Thanks!

Yes, it was testing by me on my 6500D (stock rom, kernel oc, root) and working 100%. (my friend got galaxy mini 1 and working too)
Change mac address manually works, and only in this way you can access the Internet if your provider blocks access MAC encryption.
Connect to the network can only one device, although both (PC and android) have the same MAC address. If you browse the internet you do not need a smartphone to the computer was connected to the network ofc either one or the other
Next time I'm going to add a video tutorial on how to do it.
It gives a guarantee that if you do as it is described, THIS METHOD IS WORKING METHOD AND WILL NOT DAMAGE YOUR SMARTPHONE.
Yours sincerely.

In a short time i can add a link, for now I do not have time for this. If you have any questions about how to change the MAC address, just ask in that post.
edit: Add photos and in the coming days I will try to record a video tutorial.

If you look at /data, you'll find it in the 2nd file named: .mac.info. It has rw--- permissions so maybe this is the reason why MAC adress is changing every time you connect wifi.
PD: Nope, I've changed the permissions to the one's you have in your tutorial (r-r-r) and it gets changing every time I connect wifi.

[USB Driver] New Driver for Nexus 5 M Preview.

I found out that my old drivers from building nexus 5 and nexus 9 aosp/cm did not take for M preview this afternoon.
Pulled straight from the Android SDK Manager. Enjoy!

Will the new driver still work backwards to lollipop too?

perhaps I was using the old naked drivers from 2010. New drivers are from 2014 and have more definition in them. Nonetheless, they are there for anyone needing them.
OLD
DriverVer = 12/06/2010,4.0.0000.00000
NEW
DriverVer = 08/28/2014,11.0.0000.00000
Doesn't work for me. Nexus 5, Windows 7 Ultimate.
I see a Android Composite ADB Interface, but I cannot access the phone via Windows Explorer.
maybe you can try to enable USB debugging at Developer option

Turns out my problem, and maybe yours, was actually that the device started in PTP (Picture Transfer Protocol). After changing it to MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) in the settings, search for "Select USB Configuration", the device connected exactly like it always has.

Do you know what the option "MIDI" is for?
Old drivers still work, took me awhile to figure out how to get Android M to connect to my Lappy. Turns out there's a new setting in Developer Options where you get to select your file system type for the computer to read. Had to select MTP.
