Just want to know is it safe to do nandriod back up and restore when I am at ICS 4.0.3 stock ZSLPF, kernel GL_Notecore v3.2, or do I need to flash AbyssNote first to do a nandriod backup or nandriod recovery?
with GL Notecore kernel you will be fine !! Ive used it since its beta days and never had an issue

Beware, at the moment no single of ics based custom kernel dev officially announces their kernel are safe to do nandrod restore.
Your info might guide some member to somewhere.

Well any modifications are done at the users own risk !! even rooting.
All i can say is ive made 100's of nandroids on lots of kernels and never suffered any issues.

Hi, I've bought a Captivate that at the moment is under warranty, I've applied the "unbrickable mod" successfuly and overclocked under a custom rom. My phone was affected by a manufacturing problem, so I would ask if you think that samsung will give me a replacement or not.
Most likely not. What is the hardware problem?
Even if I flash the stock UCKK4 rom?
Hardware problems are: random reboots and apps crash (and I can assure that it isn't a software problem, but a RAM problem probably...)
R u restoring apps And Data through Titanium Backup after u flash a Rom ?? If yes, then that will cause problems sometimes.
How many apps are u running ?
Or the "overclocking" could be the problem.
Doesn't sound like a hardware problem at all. Flash to Stock KK4 and don't overclock, don't restore data and see how it goes. The least i would recommend is flashing the KK4 Corn Kernel version 7.0A (.tar version through Odin) and then get Root through the CWM Recovery and then remove the Bloat u don't want and then stop there and see how it goes.

No, I haven't restored the applications Tibu, I just flashed the Stock Rom KK4 and it has problems I described before also without installing anything..
Then that leaves possible probs that may have occured during the applying of the unbrickable mod.
Were these problems there before the mod ?

Yes, these problems were also BEFORE applying the Unbrickable Mod.
Well...back to ur original question about a replacement then...the mod technically voids the warranty, but u could always try. Worst they can say is no. :/

I have brick my phone more then three time while rooting and install custom rom, send it to samsung and they fixed it each time under warranty. You should try it.

I flashed a custom rom for the first time ever using a tutorial from roottgalaxynote.com. Everything went fine and I'm using a custom rom now. I was just wondering what the wiping is everybody is talking about. I didn't do any kind of wipe, I just installed the rom on top of the rooted stock rom. It seems to be running fine but II still don't know what a wipe does. Any help for a noob? I thnx
Look if u r on ics then there are risks gb is completely safe from this emmc brickbug
Use abyss kerenl it is known to be a safe kernel if you want to wipe
And if everything is working fine than dont wipe

What do you mean by look if you're on ics. I was on standard ics now on. Criskelorom. I did use the abyss kernel. I'm save from bricking using this kernel right?
There are three separate wipes:
1. Dalvik cache, and cache, clears any settings, usually first port of call if experiencing and boot loops or fc's after flashing (Dalvik wipe only available in advanced recovery, not on stock Samsung e3)
2. Full data wipe, aka factory reset, clears all data and settings off device, returns to stock.
Usually when changing from stock rom to custom or different rom types like aokp to cm9, you can get residue which means you'll often get lots of fc's when you boot up. Most people panic when they experience this and do something stupid and end up bricking. Performing a wipe just clears out any debris that may have been left. If you're running smoothly, there's no need to wipe. And yes, you're safe from emmc brickbug, above poster obviously didn't read the CUSTOM portion of your rom description.

I understand that you installed Criskelo ROM. The OP of the developer clearly mentions that do a full wipe, after you have flashed Abyss 4.2 (RedPill). I think you need to read the sticky thread in the Gnote forum first as well as the Public Service Announcement regarding the brickbug, before you do any kind of flashing in ICS.
For the safety of your Gnote pls. pls. follow the installation instructions to the point otherwise you may just brick your device. Yeah your device may be working correctly right now, but it is highly recommeded to follow the installation instructions keeping in mind the brickbug issue.
thnx for your reply. I did read a lot of information on this forum, but to be honest I don't understand it all. As a former iPhone user I'm really new to this stuff. I've been waiting for months to flash the kernel because I was afraid to brick my precious phone.
Is it correct that I'm safe from brick as long as I flash abyss kernel first? So after flashing kernel I should be safe to do a wipe before installing a new rom?
You are on ics, you cannot use abyss. The abyss42 kernel is used specifically for flashing purposes.
Safe kernels for ICS are speedmod and notecore. But even then, i do all my wipes from within abyss, install my ics rom then reinstall a safe kernel.

So the abyss kernel is a safe gb kernel for wipe and installing new rom. Since the kernel is part of the rom another kernel will be installed with the custom rom. Am I right here? So every time I want to use another rom I have to flash with abyss first. But is there still a risk of bricking using using this method? I will never just install a leaked rom or anything.
thats what i do, use abyss to flash any rom even if my current rom is already on a safe kernel like speedmod, notecore or goku.

Hello,
Right now, my Galaxy Note is running a rooted version Samsung ICS:
Android Version: 4.0.3
Baseband Version: N7000XXLPT
Kernel Version: 3.0.150N7000XXLPY-CL474507
Build Number: IML74K.XXLPY
I'd like to try CM10, but I've been reading a lot of issues from people flashing ROMs from Samsung ICS. What would be the safest way to install CM10? Should I downgrade to a Samsung Gingerbread ROM first? What procedure would you guys recommend?
Thanks,
Tiago
It is important to downgrade first to samsung stock GB.

But should I flash a stock Samsung GB ROM or a rooted GB ROM? Should I use CWM or Odin to flash GB?

you can flash the pre rooted GB rom by Chainfire...then flash the cf kernel....do a full wipe and then just flash CM10. Find the procedure here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1331784
Go to section 1.3 and u find the way....hope it helps....:good:
Flash it to stock GB
here's the other link for the video.. again all courtesy to the creator of that video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jr3DDEh8vyc
There's also the links of the ROM (choose checkROM GB or RocketROM) and the kernel you need to download.
Just follow his video bud, (I'm following his video for flashing roms and I never miss going back to this video to downgrade to GB)
Cheers!
I see. So flashing Abyss kernel from Samsung ICS (LPY kernel) using CWM is actually safe? I just want to be sure because I've seen many people advising not to use CWM at all if you are on a Samsung ICS ROM.
abysskernel is not an infected kernel, that is why mostly when your going to downgrade to gingerbread.. most flashers will tell you to flash first to abysskernel then flash the GB rom after.

OK, I flashed Abyss kernel (worked fine), rebooted recovery, made a full wipe, flashed Rocket ROM and rebooted the system. I see the boot animation, but after that, nothing happens (blank screen). I've waited over 5 minutes, but the ROM doesn't boot. Anything else I can try?
I'm f*cking tired of explaining this over and over again...MY GOD!! You could've just read the CM9 installation instructions, CHECKED OUT THE STICKIES, ANYTHING LIKE THAT!
THE ONLY 100% SAFE WAY TO GET RID OF AN INFECTED KERNEL IS TO FLASH TO GB THROUGH PC ODIN!! Why the F*CK does everyone prefer to flash abyss and take that risk...!?
IF!! You're confident that RocketRom flashed correctly, you could probably full wipe (AGAIN) from recovery (you'd be on a safe kernel) and that should solve your problem...
Wait for a 2nd opinion though...

To be on a much safer side use titanium backup. You can always rely on it.
How would one reliably tell if one has a "safe" kernel?
Perhaps one has flashed a certain ROM, how does one tell if it updated the kernel, and if so, how does one know if that is now a "safe" kernel?

You must flash the safe kernel like speedmod, goku, and notecore to know you are safe. The rom has kernel inside.
If you go "system settings" of your phone and go to "about phone" you will see the kernel. If notecore then you can read notecore, this is an indication you are in safe kernel.
if on stock ICS then its unsafe kernel.
You can from the first post of kernel thread if emmccaperase has been removed if it is relatively safe. You will also find despite first post people asking if it safe in thread.
So ultimate answer: by reading
speedmod, notecore, abyss, cm9, AOKP are considered safe. But always check first post and thread

I have tested and no prob at all. Although this work for me, it doesn't mean it wont brick your phone.
If you scare to perform nandroid using 6.0.1.2, i eill suggest you using speedmod k13-3 kernel ot abyss 4.2 kernel to perform nandroid backup and restore. Both suggested kernel has more faster speed in terms of perform nandroid action.
