NFC error out of the box, killing N7 - Nexus 7 General

So I FINALLY received my N7 today, was very excited to run home and start her up..... finally do and i get a "Unfortunatly, NFC service has stopped" on the start screen. When i hit ok it goes away for 1 sec and then pops up again making doing anything completely useless... I am unable to get passed the wifi screen because i can't enter my password.
I have photo and video of the problem but XDA won't let me share those yet....
Anybody know a way around this? I'm also wondering if my NFC chip is toast right out of the box...... ahhh the life of an early adopter....
I've hard reset it and still same problem..... Google CS was also no help....

Never heard of it. Just root and fix permissions!

Download the system image and flash from fastboot. Maybe that would fix it. Sounds like it could be a bad system flash or something.

Thanx for the suggestions.. I will have to try one.... Google is RMA'ing it now but it may be a few days which royally sucks...
I currently can't basically get passed the welcome screen because of this NFC error message... until I can post it you can just search Youtube for Nexus 7 NFC Issue...

How do you root if you cannot get into the Dev options and turn on USB debugging?

boot into fastboot, flash cwm, boot into cwm, install root package.

To root you have to unlock the bootloader first I believe. I thought USB debugging had to be turned on to unlock the bootloader.

Nope, you just need to get into bootloader mode (you will need to find the key combination for it).

Power the device off, Hold Vol Up + Vol Down + Power (in that order) and keep holding till the bootloader shows.
I have the same problem, but it is hanging at the Google logo when I select recovery mode.

You cannot boot into recovery directly from bootloader unless you're plugged into a computer via the USB port.

Same here.
I have let it sit for over an hour and my crappy tablet will not budge from the Google logo.
Btw, I have the same Nfc issue as the OP. Contacted Google for a replacement and am currently looking into a solution for this.

>Google is RMA'ing it now
So did you try to get cross-shipping, ie advance replacement, as some Google CS rep had claimed as allowed?

Would have fixed it myself vs. RMA! No waiting for a new one

the google driver (ADB) is installed on the device manager on my PC, and recognized while stuck on the X screen. BUT if connect the device while on the recovery it is recognized as "ANDROID BOOTLOADER INTERFACE"

How did you manage to fix your phone with a broken power button? I'm in the same situation; I have copied the PASSIMG.zip to the SD card as well.. how do I run it with a broken power button in bootloader?

Were you having a backup already present (Backed up using an App?) . If yes, then you can restore. But i don't think the other way around is possible.

If you plug/unplug 4 or 5 times phone boot itself (with an USB plugged in). Repaired a neighbour's N1 last month this way.
When phone boots, restart to bootloader and flash Blackrose, it uses trackball and volume keys to navigate, then what you want. You doesn't need the power button with this configuration (trackball could unlock the screen and to lock you can install some app or widget).
Anyway, I unassembled N1 several times (to clean it and to reconect the upper chip that it's been disconnected in a fall to the ground), maybe with a little care and seeing some youtube videos you can repair your button!

[Q] Fastboot mode... HELP!

Guys, I have just received a new RazrI from CU web shope. It has already Android 4.1.2 pre-installed. I tried to unlock bootloeader for rooting but I can't go into Fastboot mode. I used Power+Volume down combination (pushed till vibration, pushed till restarting) but it din't go into the mode - just restarted. What is wrong? I had got RazrI before I killed it (Service Required....) I was able to go into the mode on the old one... I can't do it with the new one... it is crazy for me...
thanks in advance...

This is exactly why I'm not a developer... I can't even think of something that simple, I might as well give up now
Download adb. You don't need the whole Android SDK, seek for ADB only.
Select debugger mode on phone, click windows + r and then CMD (be administrator)
then went to ADB directory ex:
cd C:\Users\xxx\Desktop\ADB
ADB will start. Then :
adb reboot bootloader (for fastboot) or:
adb reboot recovery (for CWM once instaled or stock recovery).
Guys, thanks.... this is mirracle... I went into Fastboot... I just tried one more time Power+VolDown and I'm in... after two days of trying... Android is living by its own life...

[Q] One's touch screen disabled

RESOLVED
Silver HTC One for AT&T; bootloader unlocked, rooted, s-on
I tried to flash a 4.1.2 ROM on the phone earlier today through CWM. No errors were given during the process. After the phone restarted the touch screen is now disabled. All three hardware keys seem to be working fine (power, v-up, v-down). Since the touchscreen is not working I cannot get past the initial lock screen. If I try and restart the phone by holding power it takes a long time >5 minutes of holding down power, "To restart your phone continue to press and hold power for 3, 2, 1, comes up and then stays at 1 for a long time.
If I connect the phone to my mac android file transfer opens up and I can see the files on the phone. However, if I try to find the device using 'adb devices' the list of attached devices is empty.
I would like to put a different ROM on and then flash that but because I am unable to do a power down (only restart after a long time) or use adb to re-boot into fastboot or recovery I am stuck.
Anything you guys could give me to point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.
also I installed HTC sync manager and it launches after the device is attached, but does not indicate that my device is attached.
Thanks!
You need a 4.3 based ROM. Push via ADB and install via cwm or adb sideload

Just copy the 4.3 rom via the file manager, then restart with however long it takes. While restarting, keep the vol-down button pressed. You'll reboot to bootloader. From there, go to recovery and select your 4.3 rom.

Can you elaborate on the OTG cable? It may be my best option at the moment because I cannot get the phone to reboot at all let alone into recovery. I tried to restart while holding down power and vol-down (like n1234d said) for about 20 minutes and the phone did not restart.
You could use an OTG cable and a USB drive to get the ROM onto the phone inside recovery. Unfortunately, you still need to reboot to recovery. If the phone can't reboot, I'm not sure what to do.

Just hold the power button and power it off....
then try to get in recovery from bootloader....
the phone wont get recognized via adb if not in recovery mode cause the USB debugging would be turned off....
the phone WILL power off if you keep the power button pressed for 20-30 seconds and should reboot.

Thanks for you suggestions, as I mentioned above I got the phone to reboot into recovery after holding down power for an insanely long time. From there I was able to use adb to get everything sorted out.
So my problem is resolved, how do I close/delete this thread? Thanks for all your suggestions.

I think what should be focused on first is getting juice back in that battery. Plug it in to the charger and let it sit for a few hours (like, at least 8 hours). It may boot loop but maybe it will still get some juice? (not sure about this..). Then you can try again to get into Flashmode. (Are you experienced in flashing stock FTF's with flashtool?)

Help with bootlooped Nexus 6 with broken vol. down button

Long story short. was flashing roms/mods on a spare Nexus 6 of mine and ended up in a bootloop. Now i'd NORMALLY just boot into recovery/fastboot and fix it or restore a backup but that is where i'm running into my fabolous problem of mine. The volume down button is broke so you can't push it in and or hold it. So what i'm wanting to know is if anyone knows a workaround for booting into recovery or fastboot so i can restore this phone. ANY suggestions are welcome. Thank you!

good point, but occasionally during bootloops, itll boot into the bootloader. only other thing i can think of is to power it off, and try to connect it to adb, the try reboot recovery.

sure you can, that's an easy one. power your n6 off, then boot up with the power button + volume down pressed, this will boot you into the bootloader. the bootloader is the ONLY place that fastboot works. duh.. :silly:
