Hello XDA !!
Now I know what you guys are thinking... (I don't care a damn if you are caring an Android site. There are millions of Android sites and we don't need more)
Well... I want to create a unique Android site relating to Android apps. I want to create a site which reviews android apps in their respective category.
For example.. the title's would be like Best Android Web Browser.
The site would help newbie Androiders to figure out which app was the best for their need (email, web surfing, etc) and for this audacious project I need some help.
I am looking for people who are experts on Android apps and also people who know about making websites (design, SEO). If you cannot help out directly then please give some advice.
One of things I hate about sites are ads. That is why I will keep my site ad free !!! I want everyone to know that I am truly an Android fan and that is why I am creating this site. Unfortunately, since the site will not be taking in any money I also wont be able to pay you any money. I am going to spending money hosting the site.
I realize its still a work in progress but it will be improving everyday.
The site is called
http://appdigy.com
In short I need ALL help but I could especially use help in:
HTML
Graphics
Writing Articles
SEO
Post here if you can help out... Every little bit counts
While it's ambitious and not a bad idea, I'm pretty sure it's against XDA rules to talk about any outside/competitor sites that would take adtraffic from XDA. That said I would be willing to write up a couple articles just for the heck of it.

This is okay - he's not breaking any rules. Other websites have been started by groups formed on xda before now. As long as they're not creating something similar to xda (a mobile development forum for devices similar to ones we support or will support), and as long as they're not trying to make money out of posting here then it's not against the rules.
That being said, I don't think someone who joined the site a few days ago and has only 1 post has enough reputation to expect a particularly favourable response. I suggest that Super2cool gets involved with the forum a bit more and gets familiar with what goes on here before expecting to recruit other users.

The site doesn't compete with XDA in anyway. My site focuses on a specific niche within android apps while XDA is more about phones and android ROMS. Nevertheless, I could use your help

I truly see where you are coming. I know its only been a few days since I joined the site and I know I don't have enough posts. I have been trying to get familiar with the site and so I haven't been posting much and have been reading on XDA. I have realized that the people on XDA are very cool and smart.

Hey Everyone!!
I am thinking about creating an online kitchen (similar to UOT) but for HTC Sense UI MODs. This includes Lock Rings, Weather Lockscreen Backgrounds, Docks, ability to remove/add time/carrier etc.. In short, a total customization of the Sense UI.
I believe that many users would love this and it would save time for the developers who are constantly creating Lock Rings/Sense Themes etc. As there are so many HTC devices, it is difficult to create the same MODs on all devices.
I'm planning to implement the whole thing in Node.JS + Socket.IO. It can also be done simply with HTML + PHP but then if there is high traffic, I believe the first option would be better.
Therefore the skills required would mainly be knowledge of programming languages such HTML, CSS, PHP, JavaScript etc.
I have started working a bit on this, but it would not be possible to do this alone and I would require some help. If anyone is experienced enough and able to help me out with this, it would be very much appreciated.
Please contact me via PM or email me at [email protected]
Thanks!

Excellent Idea, if you need any help with a host and setting up a webpage I can get that done for you. You would need to find some other Devs to developed the tools needed to modify the files and I work for a Sports Media Company and we have a department that Develops websites and I can get the guys to set everything up and find a host to be able to handle enough traffic. I will P.M. you my email and if your interested you can email me and we can get it going, I hope to see this up soon.

Yes I mainly need help with a host and the webpage. To modify the files, the tools are there and I've already written most of the background code to use the tools and modify the files. That code is in DOS atm, but i can rewrite in another language if required.
Look forward to your PM and hope to get this website implemented and up soon

Yeah, I'm still working on it alone at the moment. Sticktaylor has offered to help out, but I haven't heard back from him.
But anyways its still in progress...
Really looking forward to this! I am in the beta testing phase of my own personal custom ROM and this would really help it stand out. It is definitely a learn as you go kind of thing. Any ways, awesome idea and hope this does make its way into production. Thanks for all the hard work!
I think this is a great idea. It is a large project though, which will take a tremendous amount of effort and time. If you don't find enough people to help, or even if you do, have you considered joining development on UOT Kitchen? I'm not even sure if they are looking or more help, but, they already have such an amazing product, with some Sense manipulation in it even. It would be great to develop an already great thing to be even better, instead of starting from scratch to reinvent the wheel.
Just an idea...

Help service donation.
If you have your services taken care of already, please disregard. My Apologies... If you need some help with starting up host, data storage, bandwidth reqs. I can try to get donated service up to 4 to 6 months. Usually depends on the devs. idea/project. After donated time is up, the two companies I do regular business with, will usually offer a 10% to 25% discount on all service. Never hurts to try. If you would like me to submit your project, just shoot me off a PM and I'll fill you in.

Well the 10 post rule is just like an adaptation period, so that the new members understand what's going on here and how things work, without giving headaches to developers. I'd advise you and your friend to go to any general subforum section and simply help people having trouble, instead of opening threads begging for posts and thanks. 10 posts isn't much.. I make around 50-70 a day without getting into the developer sections. Now if you follow what most n00bs do and start rant threads or posts like "this is my 8th post. Please ignore I'm trying to raise my post count to post into development", your posts will be deleted, your post count will fall again and any thanks you got for those posts will be lost. That's the way it works. Read the rules

The less thanks you have the better. It's an indication of how little you know. Usually people that don't know much will have high number of thanks.

It used to be a juvenile status thing, but it's an accepted practice now apparently....
I feel sad for people who ask for thanks in each and every post and don't usually thank them if they explicitly ask for it.I feel that it has to be earned rather than coerced
I usually thank if the post is well explained, or if it makes me laugh
Yeah I thank when I get a chuckle out of someone's post. I don't understand why everybody keeps asking for them.
wow and i just thought it was a way to over compensate for having a small peener or small fun bags... (ok not-so-fun bags since they are small...)
I see it more of as a remainder than a forceful act and also to reduce unnecessary posts which only include thanks. And once you get your answer you don't even bother to say thanks even after being reminded,Like maximum members will not say or click thanks by using a ROM from certain modder/developer.
I think that's just human tendency to do so.
Anyways one click wouldn't really matter but then again its up to you.
I would rather click it for anybody who helps me in anyway.
I think this forum should be used for something more creative than such useless discussions.
We get a lot of support and learning for free from here, I say its equally important that we respect the place.

+1 For that
If you want to get help and someone with 2 or 3 thanks answers and then there is answer from another guy who says exactly the opposite but he got let say 200 or 300 thanks, then who would you believe is right or more trustworthy?
What's more some people invest their time, to create things, to upload things or even search for things if others are not good in it or sometimes even too lazy to do this by themselves. Pressing thanks doesn't hurt In the end nobody is forcing you to do it. If someone asks for it, then treat it like a gentle reminder to express your gratitude.
Thanks meter is a human tool that indicates gratitude for someone
In straight words guys:
If i had a severe problem, and someone help me to solve it,i will not mind thank him a thousand times regardless of his no of posts or thanks or status... come-on people its not money, its a human thing that make thousands of people continue helping others, just say thanks to who help u,by button by a post by a pic or even buy a pm it doesnot matter the way, just say it and dont be selfish
↖(^▽^)↗ Sent from Rego Galaxy Note ↖(^▽^)↗
Thanks button as a tool reduces number of unnecessary posts. Thanks meter gives indication as to the poster's reliability. Rest is up too individual users, some may indeed perceive the number as a social status indicator and pursue higher rankings, some may ignore it. Still it doesn't matter, as long as the mutual help happens.

Edit: to give some meaning to this post. To me, a little thank you is just an incentive to keep on trying to be helpfull. It doesn't even have to be the Thanks button, a simple "thanks, it worked" or "thanks for the info" is just nice to read if you take the time to try and help someone.

Yes! You won't regret!
Now, where's my thong..
(I would thank that post, but i'm out of thanks for today)
Isnt it just to say thanks without actually writing thanks and flooding a thread with pages upon pages of thanks? Thats what i always thought.
Following the recent decision from XDA Moderators to remove OT threads in device forums, they have now been closed.
I have found we can continue discussion here as long as the thread is in the OT forum.
I am creating a OT lounge for fellow DS members to carry on.
Here we go.
EDIT: Since Ben's sanctuary thread has gone too, we have decided to combine them to one thread, instead of creating another thread.
EDIT1: Our BBM group

Correct. In all device sub forums the have been closed, however we have been given permission to open them here. I fell disappointed by this decision too.

I couldn't agree with you more Oly. I have posted my feelings in both the DS OT threads and hope that they are read by our moderators, even if nothing changes.
This is the worst thing I have known XDA to do yet. The moderators constantly refuse to do anything about the newbies who refuse point-blank to bother searching and then get all upset and aggravated when you tell them to do so, yet they decide to close threads which serve a very useful and valuable purpose on XDA. Putting device-specific threads in the general OT forum just means more chaos - if every device has an OT thread here and they are used regularly then the other OT threads will get hidden 8 pages down the list.
I cannot see a single valid justification for this decision and have just about lost all the respect I once had for the forum moderators.
Your logic is spot on. I'm very disappointed in XDA's decision. There really was no need.
I completely see where you are coming from, the OT forum will now have so many device sub threads everywhere, so other OT threads will be buried... Regular OT members will also be affected by this, with all those extra threads.
Can't express my disappointment enough...
I'm sure a few DS people won't come along, the ones who've already left (enigmaamit etc)

What's the purpose of the RC forum anyway? Its completely non-dev related amd mainly OT topics...
Xda is contradicting itself here. What is going on....

Done! Now we need to do some minor advertisement whenever someone asks a very general question, not exactly belonging to a ROM thread
Hey everybody, can anyone tell me what the heck is wrong with the xda forums lately? There are multiple things going wrong and some functions of the site dont work at all?
For example:
- Clicking on notifications in the top right corner doesnt open the received notifications, instead it opens this page http://forum.xda-developers.com/usercp.php
- Cant expand the names in a post to see who gave thanks, again opens a different page
- Options like attachments, smileys and all other options when writing a comment dont work (their not clickable)
Maybe there are more, but these are the ones i came across till now. Anyone having same behavior? or maybe it's just my laptop thats tripping... In any case its very much frustrating!

Hi my friend,
In my case, no such problems until today but I will check again on my laptop this evening.
What do you mean by lately exactly? In my case 1 or 2 hours ago, it was fine.

Everything Is Working Fine, Double Click On The Notifications Menu Will Show usercp.php Instead Of That Menu, The Fix Is To Click Just One Time, I Don't Know About The Others...
But You Can Try Between These Different Solutions :
Uninstall And Re-Install Your Current Browser.
Or Use The Old XDA Layout.
Or If It Always Failing, Try Using Google DNS.
Regards.

About a months ago, I reported xda forum issues but never received a reply. If interested check here and here.
Normally, I don't use my GT-I9305 for visiting xda. However, due to your post I checked the xda functionalities by using the Gello browser that came with my ROM.
Everything is working as expected and normally except that the [view] button is missing to expand the thanks row to see who gave thanks.
For the still existing issues with xda on my laptop, please refer to the first link above.
