Returning my Nexus 7 - Nexus 7 General

It is very nice build, good quality but I really hate the Chrome Browser and with out flash player... it seems like a big ipod for me right now. I so frustrated.
Anyone here returning their too?

Nope, I love the Google experience and the device is well made.

Why don't you download dolphin or opera browser and install flash? I'm not quite sure what you're expecting.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app

I'm considering the same due to the creaking glue on the left side and the disappointing display resolution and saturation. The DAC also produces pretty disappointing audio from the 9.5mm.

i installed swype and installed flash apk very easily! Dolphin hd fixed the whole flash problem plus its a google device with tegra 3 for 199.00 how can u complain?

Personally I am loving Firefox, infinitely better then those when it comes to browsing experience (smoothness plus pinch zoom).
Also u can install the plug in 'full screen' to play older Flash in full screen (if u try to go full screen, the browser will crash on older flash videos) so u still get the full screen effect

Side load this apk. Use dolphin or another browser that supports flash, not Chrome. If its not working you did something wrong cause it works fine for me

I wonder what it is like to buy a device without all the knowing anything about it first and not reading or researching. Don't come to xda to complain if you spent $200 without taking 5 minutes to read.

Also, within 10 minutes of reading or 30 seconds of searching you can find ways to get Flash on JB and respective devices.

I wonder what it is like to post comments without knowing how things really went down. Might be newsflash for you, but Adobe dropped support for 4.1 after the preorder page went up. Without being able to cancel the order, some people can only return it now and that includes me.

No. They didn't. Adobe announced it well before the preorder. They announced it in November 2011. On 6/29, they made it official that it would not be avaible for 4.1.

Thanks for all suggestion!
It is 7 inch tablet but surely it is smaller with all the buttons on the screen. I love the stock browser because the full screen browsing with the quick control. I know I can get the flash to work but not full functional like the 4.0 does. thats what I'm complaining. I wished the tablet has the original android stock browser and full flash support, it would be better than now.
otherwise, everything is just great.

Is It Worth Investing In?

I was just wondering since i already have a Gnexus, is it worth investing in? Just wanted to get some opinion from people who already received their orders and played around with it. Thanks

I dont have a tablet so thats why i was thinking i should order it. Thanks for your reply.
Definately worth it.. Only downside is after using one for a bit you'll think your GNex is too small!
Technology is never an investment. Two, three, six months later the latest hotness is two years old and worth a fraction of what you paid. Don't buy something as an investment and expecting to recover any expenses in the world of Technology.
As far as being worth the expense of being a useful gadget you will enjoy, yes it is very much worth it. If you spend any time browsing the web, youtube, games, or movies on your phone, using the Nexus 7 will make it a more enjoyable experience and not kill your phone in the process. Tablets are still limited to being media consumption devices, i.e. dont expect them to do everything a PC can, but they do have a viable need in the gap between a smart phone and a laptop or desktop.

I have a 32gb Touchpad, and a Nexus 7. The Nexus 7 is more portable, comfortable, and stable. Typing on the Nexus 7 is much easier, and faster. The battery on the Nexus lasts considerably longer than the Touchpad. The Touchpad is a nice device, but I don't use it at all now that I have a Nexus 7.
I've got a Touchpad and a 7'' Android tablet. I'm using the first one as my multimedia device and Internet browsing at home (BT keyboard + mouse) and the second one when I've to use it outside home.

On the popular topic, I bought the n7 and took it back. The screen really does feel too small after using the touch pad for so long, and performance didn't feel much different either.

If it helps, I've got both. I'm using the N7 pretty well exclusively just because it's much lighter (better for reading) and fits in my cargo pocket at work. The N7 is faster, sharper, has better support (obviously) and will have for a long time. I recently went away for a week and purposely took just the N7 to see how I would get on and was pleasantly surprised.
Downsides are, it's smaller so not as good for web browsing but is still usable, the kicker is 'no flash' since it's jelly bean. There are ways of getting round that for some things but it does mean my favourite news site is a bit crippled.

Hey since FLASH is not officially supported on jb since I started using the web browser PUFFIN it has FLASH built in its the best browser IMO. It has a trackpad built in that you can/off easily.
Its the closest to browsing on a PC I've ever seen you can put it mobile browsing mode. I've tried sky fire, opera, Firefox, stock, chrome and I like PUFFIN the best.
Checkout projectfree.tv in puffin browser compares to any other.
Puffin is also available for iOS.
Thanks for the suggestion!

Coming from somebody who's screen magically cracked without me dropping it, I would still say the N7 is one of the best tablets out there, hands down. Initial product release is always a risky time for consumers, and I knew that walking into it. You can say that it should be perfect from the get-go and yeah I would agree, but replace the N7 with anything else, whether it be the iPad, a TV, a Chevy pickup truck, it doesn't matter. Lemons exist, especially during the initial run. Couple that with the fact that there are thousands of people who never complained about their N7 and the greater picture becomes a little clearer. Forums by nature tend to attract enthusiasts of that product as well as negativity since users with issues tend to seek out a place to vent (forums being a nice target), whereas the majority of people wouldn't bother to seek out a place to speak highly of the product - they'd rather utilize that time USING that product. I think my opinion is further swayed to the positives because ASUS *did* fix mine under warranty. Granted, I called them a few times so they knew my level of frustration before they even had a chance to work on it, but the end result was a 100% functional fixed unit. I'm a fan.
Love my Nexus 7. Only complaint was that I was cheap and purchased the 8GB version. The 16GB would have been a better match.
Just got mine yesterday and Im loving it, its a c80, the only problem I found is the crackling sound that it makes when I unlock it or select something, only problem so far, hope not to get one of the other major issues...
I unlocked and rooted mine the day I bought it (a week ago).
All went well via RomManager Premium, until I tried flashing a Rom.
Which then took into boot loop for a day or so.
Eventually got it back to life via Nexus Toolkit (Wugs).
Now left it in Stock mode using NOVA Launcher Prime and all is good!
Best 7" Tab ever, and I used to own a Sammy 10.1 Tab.
Awesome value for money.
Thumbs up to Android/Google! :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Same here. I'm so tired of seeing all this negativity through the Nexus 7 threads. My device is literally perfect. I've had it for about a month the now and love it more each day. No issues whatsoever, and receiving my Portenzo Bookcase in the mail the other day was the icing on the cake!!! I love this thing. Very affordable, and for the money, I got much, MUCH more than I bargained for. I'd gladly pay 250$ or even a bit more for a product of this caliber.

That's the problem, mate.

And I'm bored....

I was really fired up about getting my N7. I got it, rooted it, flashed it, bricked it, fixed it, flashed it, and then loaded it with all of the best games and every emulator… 2 days later I’m now bored and have no use for it no more than my android phone… I might try running a virtual PC but…I’m a little sad I lost interest this quickly. What is everyone else using their tablets for that keeps them from collecting dust?
I use mine all the time for gaming, Web browsing, splash top, wifi remote control, browsing forums, news, entertaining my 2 year old, navigation, banking and managing all my rss download feeds on u torrent, I am sure there is more I do I am not thinking of too
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
If you truly loaded up the tablet with the best games you would still be playing them and wouldn't be bored after 2 days.
u could always get a comic book or ebook reader and read some stuff idk.
I bought mine primarily to replace my older Kindle so I could get books and magazines with photos that the Kindle sucks at. I like playing Angry Birds on it, but do that mostly on my phone. I also fly my AR Drone with it. I didn't buy it to be using it all day.

Almost 5000 posts since April? No wonder you can't find life.
I just keep trying the different emulators now for gaming but i dont spend a lot of time with the tablet in my hand at all
For me it's mostly the form factor. Browsing the web, reading text, etc. is very, very nice on a 7" screen and many games just look better and play better as well. Plus I love the fact that I can install Ubuntu naively on it and basically use it as a laptop replacement if I need to.

I use mine for the same reasons others have posted here, but I also have been tinkering with integrating my nexus into my (rather crude) home automation system driven by arduino. With an arduino, tasker, a bit of tinkering and programming, I'm able to open/close my garage door and control my lights with tasker using voice commands or tasker widgets on my home screen.
I have been an iPhone and ipad guy since they came out years ago and recently switched all of my devices over to nexus ones and can't be happier with the openness. When I do get a bit bored with it, I try to come up with an idea to use my nexus to make my life easier and hopefully learn something new along the way.
Good luck with your quest. And by the way, if any one is interested, I can probably throw up a tutorial describing how I achieved this.

As far as I'm concerned my phone is for when I leave the house, while my tablet is for everything else. If you're bored, then it's not the fault of the device, it just means that you don't have enough interesting content on it.

I have a nexus 7, it has a good purpose.
My computers purpose is to run high end software such as 3ds max and the adobe design suite, as well as a bunch of games.
My laptops purpose is to sit in my room until i buy it a new power cord, then its purpose is to be sold, or something...
My phones purpose is to text and call people, and when i dont have my tablet on me its so i can play games and sketch.
My tablets purpose is so i can browse the web, read books, play games i dont on the computer, and to be a digital sketchpad until i can afford a medium intuos 5.
Bored with your tablet? Find a purpose for it such as netflix, reading books, sketching, incessantly flashing software until you break it, etc.

I'd say that's definitely gonna be the case, especially since Google is conducting their Google Cast SDK "Hackathon" on Dec. 7-8th. I'd say the SDK will be released either at that time or less than a week after. My bet is that it will be officially released immediately following that event though.

Yeah. I got one today. Tried to root. No dice. Gave up and just plugged it in the TV. And then the update came. Oh well. Maybe someday.

It was a 3A number. I know what the other post said about those, but I'm stubborn ( lol ) and tried it anyway.

Yeah since I'm outside the US and have an unrootable Chromecast I had to buy a new wireless router just so I could use DD-WRT to get around the Chromecast's built-in Google DNS and access the US Netflix library. But on the bright side it's a damn good router even without the Chromecast
Same prob here, I was in a rush to try it out, I forgot to check xda first. The device is currently just lying in the drawer as I hardly use it since I live in Singapore so I got no netflix, just YT lol
Is it possible to play videos on websites based on flash in cc? Or is it possible with root? What i really want to know is do flash videos play? Thanks a bunch.

Yes, if done via the Cast extension for Chrome, but this does on-the-fly transcoding (decode/re-encode) on your computer so it needs some CPU horsepower.
Chromecast cannot natively play Flash, rooted or not.

Yeah mine was a 3a as well, I didn't even try to root it after reading this. Plus my otg is unpowered. Figured I can look for a older one and just buy another since they are cheap and try again or just hope with the release of sdk....
