Chrome is horrible compared to the aosp browser - Nexus 7 General

Chrome is way slower and the drawing lags badly on scrolling compared to the aosp browser. There's one to. On here that uses the aosp browser. Its so much smoother and faster. Unfortunately autorotation does not work on that ROM. Why did Google make chrome the default?

Try a rom with the stock browser. It benchmarks higher and it never has to load more of the page when scrolling.
Its the same way on the galaxy nexus. They just let you choose in that case which to use.

Unfortunately its the same garbage on this tablet. It was really stupid of Google to make chrome the default and not include the aosp browser. I tried the aosp browser and its butter smooth with zero lag. Chrome on the other hand is a complete lagfest.

Google said we could download it from Play already they just havent put it up somebody else can look up a source for you cause I dont feel like it right now

Yes...Chrome definitely blows for Android. Sad really. Chrome to phone and all the syncing options are really nice, but the browser itself is just awful. Hoping Google really gives this some love soon b/c as others have said, the stock regular browser that has been on Android forever is so much nicer.

Just by watching videos, I can already tell that I hate the Chrome browser. It can have a horrendous amount of lag, and it is extremely annoying having to watch reviews that show this sub-par browsing experience when I know for a fact that all of this dreadful performance could be alleviated by switching to the AOSP browser. Google quite obviously did this to promote their browser, but it does not do good for the Nexus 7 image.

Hmm have you guys fully updated your n7's? Chrome is blazing fast for me. Haven't had a single issue with it except for Swype entering spaces after every letter in the address bar sometimes.

on my GNex, ICS Browser+ (basically stock ICS browser with some additions) was smoother than Chrome.
it crashes now on JB though.

Negative, been trying this all day. I don't mind chrome. The syncing with the desktop, phone, and tablet is ****ing awesome. Everything else is just ehh. I don't care much for opera or dolphin so I have been searching for all day for a browser apk or browsergoogle apk that will work but to no avail

That's because it needs the stock browser to work I think. At least that is how it works on my HTC One X. If I freeze the stock HTC browser, ICS + force closes.

OC 1100/100 (ondemmandx)
anybody else having problems with it crashing when loading websites?
It's ok. It doesn't seem as smooth as the builtin browser in ICS. I'm really surprised they didn't make it overwrite the builtin browser like they do with Gmail updates, etc.
Well it's still beta...

Awesome!
I've just converted to chrome desktop too so bookmark sync should be ace.

Yeah, the standard browser already has Chrome bookmark sync. I think the Chrome beta has quite a ways to catch up to the standard browser's performance.
Seems kinda flaky sometimes, but that is expected cause it's still in beta! It does render much quicker than the stock browser does, and the animations are very cool!!
I like the other devices option.

Yeah, render speed is good. Actually scrolling and clicking is real sluggish though. And the omnibox really slows down typing. It makes the stock keyboard freeze for a second after almost each button press. Maybe it is different on the Galaxy Nexus which has beefier hardware.

Scrolling works fine here. But I can't get it to force show desktop versions of certain websites. It'll only show the mobile versions. Also, getting to bookmarks is a bit cumbersome as there are no quick controls as in the standard browser.
Don't expect flash to ever work. Read a FAQ somewhere that there are no plans.
Really wish you could set the us string. Scrolling is super fast.

I agree, it's very fast. Looks awesome on the Xoom. I'm fine without having flash, in fact, I haven't had flash installed for a long time and I've gotten along fine without it. I'll be glad to see some more features added to Chrome.
one thing I noticed (only compared one wiki page) is that chrome for android shows for text (about 2 extra lines) compared to default browser (on my xoom in landscape)
Not regular scrolling. There's supposed to be tilt scrolling where tilting your tablet up or down will scroll using the accelerometer . Also just found out about tab swiping. If you swipe your finger from the edge of the screen you can swipe between tabs. Awesome
Thought tilt scrolling was something different. Guess it doesn't work on tablet. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2bzdcw6WSr8&feature=player_embedded

The stock browser on Android has always been a separate app. Word on the street is that Chrome will replace the stock browser when it's out of beta, and the current browser will no longer be available in the open source Android os.

Still no plugin support and that's most disappointing. If they really do make a full desktop browser experience it will be welcome with open arms. I'd just be happy if they fixed the thumbnails on the bookmarks widget not showing up. its been like that from the beginning. How do they not notice that? Sometimes i wonder whether Google employees actually use android devices.
Although to give them their dues, page rendering seems a lot faster on the new update. really noticeable for me.
For me, the chrome update has made a world of difference in loading times. I was using opera mobile because chrome was so slow, but now chrome is flying past opera. Don't get me wrong, it's not flawless, but the loading speeds are what matter most for me.

Chrome update has been a lot better for me. It used to be very slow and calculated. Now I can zip around pages.

Just wanted to let all Nexus 7 owners know...

It seems Dolphin has disabled Flash. I tried to turn it on some time back and it gave some message about HTML5 and flash causing your browser to crash. I was just reminded of this a few minutes ago and wanted to update anyone who is interested. Anyway, I had side loaded Adobe flash some time back and it is still working on Mozilla Firefox. Not sure what other browsers support it except for Frost lite. Hopefully I posted this under the right topic because all of my posts always get moved, lol. I am not rooted because I like the way everything is currently and have no real need to root. So, I guess it seems dumb for me to post this seeing most on here are probably rooted? God bless!
As you can see it no longer allows you to turn it on.

Best browser for nexus 7

Firefox vs chrome vs Dilphin ..
Addons vs speed vs gestures, which is better in ur experience ?
I periodically try the others, but keep going back to Maxthon. Not much in the way of add-ons, but then I don't need much. The built-in "reader" mode works for most sites and gives an easy-to-read, clutter-free experience.
Boat browser, by far.

Tried a lot of browsers but stock browser is still my favourite by far. Its Quick Controls feature is something I can't live without.
I was actually getting fed up last night with chrome and chrome beta crashing every 2 seconds so i jumped on play store and grabbed a random browser just for fun, i found UC Browser HD and so far i absolutely love it! It works great in portrait and landscape and it feels like it loads pages really quick. Also, i almost forget to mention two finger swipe for adding and closing tabs and a handy little toolbar on the bottom right that you can add shortcuts to, right under where your right thumb usually rests.

For all fans of Dolphin browser ->
read this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1319529
Right now I'm using stock CM browser.
The AOSP browser by a long mile, IMHO... Sure, the other browsers (Dolphin, Opera, Maxthon) might have more options (lots of bells and whistles), but AOSP has the edge in terms of speed and smoothness.
For anybody not rooted or unwilling to flash a custom ROM, then Lightning Browser is the next best thing to the AOSP browser... (IMHO, of course).

Tried almost all browsers in market and my favorite browser is AOSP browser love that speed and flash support. But sometime using Chrome because of browser sync feature is really useful.
How do I get firefox to work with flash ?
I tried installing the archived android flash from adobe website and nothing ?
I've recently switched to AOSP browser, and I'm happy with it.
I used chrome before, but got annoyed by those popup bubbles when clicking links, because it ended up showing a bubble EVERY time I'd click something.
And also I can't stand their text scaling, most signatures on XDA were MASSIVE while actual posts were tiny.
I tried other browsers as well, every one had something that bugged me (like swiping from one side would bring up a menu or such...)
I still use Firefox occasionally when chrome or AOSP won't download something or for very rare flash.
