The screen is kept on when I am charging and if I switch off, it will instantly turn on.
I didn't set stay awake in developer settings. Anyone has the same issue?

Yep. Same here. I found that if I used a corded wall charger, it does it. If I use the USB charger, it doesn't. Not sure why or the purpose.
check your stay awake option under developer options settings (Settings --> Developer Options --> Stay Awake). Hope that helps

The OP has already mentioned that he/she does not have Stay Awake enabled. Stay awake doesn't turn the screen back on either. For the record, I have Stay Awake enabled and I do not have this issue while using either USB or AC to charge.
Try using BetterBatteryStats to find out if an app is holding a wakelock. It is available for free on XDA in the Android Apps forum or on the Play Store for a small fee.

Has anyone been able to get the stay awake option in development to work and stay checked thru a reboot. Have used stay awake app from market but it always resets the screen timeout when I unplug to ten min or none
If you download the load monitor app, it has a feature that will keep the phone awake.
Its not that I want stay awake all the time only when on the charger. It worked that way on original stock it would stay checked thru a reboot. In the car on charge like to have it on all time and go back to timeout setting when unplugged. After rebooting need to reset would be nice to set and forget
Download stayawake it will allow you to keep awake on charging only .. it works great for me

Not trying to go against what you're trying to do as it can be useful but it's not suggested. You will burn your screen faster that way
If you're already aware then don't mind me
I have a official Samsung desktop charger and when my phone is in it the brightness drops to 12% ... I have also noticed using a Brodit in car charger and it does the same
Occasionally when the phone is in neither it also drops to 12% , it is doing my head in and can't work out why any ideas ? I have had the notes and had same problem so I know it's not the handset I have
I have disabled auto adjust power supply so I know it's not that
Any ideas ?

Am I the only one with this problem ? Surely not as 3 handsets I have had , have all had the same problem

I'm not sure if this is directly applicable to you, but it was the case for me in the past:
When you set your Android phone to "stay awake" when on AC power (as it is referred to in Settings) then the screen will still time-out after the usual time, however instead of turning off, it will instead dim to the "minimum" setting.
Usually the time elapses, the screen dims, then 1 or 2 seconds later the screen turns off. With "Stay Awake" enabled, it dims then stays on.
The reason I suspect this might be happening to you is that you are using docks, presumably using the stay awake setting so that you can always see the display when docked?
There is a potential solution, but I don't know if it will work for definite. Try downloading and installing Widgetsoid (others will work but I am most familiar with that one) then add a new widget, select switcher 1x1, then "screen" at bottom, then "Always on" one up from bottom of list. If my theory is correct, that will keep the screen on constant without dimming after time-out.
Hope that applies and/or helps!
Hi,
I'm having an issue where my screen won't go to sleep when the phone is idle, both while charging and on battery.
-I can't find any apps that are causing it
-I have disabled the "Stay Awake" setting
-Screen timeout is set to 15 seconds
-I am on ICS, this did not happen on GB
I have searched the forums, and the only *temporary* fixes seem to be an FDR. An FDR is like saying "Clear your cookies". I am not going to try that.
Thanks.

I'm having the same issue when my phone is on charge. My personal remedy is to hit the power button to sleep the screen when it first connect it...
Official .246 rooted
Right but that doesn't help when it won't sleep on battery. Texts also turn my screen on but that setting is also set to off.

Check Settings > Developer options > Stay awake.
Also, did you try a reboot? There was apparently a bug with HDMI/webdock when disconnecting where the screen would not turn off until rebooted. Duno if they fixed that yet, as I dont really use HDMI/webdock
I have realised (at least for me) that using Daydream whilst AC Charging is causing a wakelock on the phone after you remove from charge (no deep sleep at all aka 100% awake time).
My phone is pure stock at the moment, no root or any modifications.
I am not sure on the exact triggers, my wakelock seemed to activate when my alarm goes off in the morning causing my screen to turn to daydream mode, I then pick the phone up on the second alarm and unplug before turning the screen off, then the phone fails to enter deep sleep until you reboot.
Others appear to be having the same issues.
For now I have disabled Daydream on charging and I hope this stops the wakelock issue, but as to why it is happening at all I am not sure, the lack of battery stats on KitKat at the moment is fairly irritating.
Anyone else having 100% awake issues? and if so do you use daydream or alarms whilst charging? If so please let us know, and try to disable daydream whilst charging to see if that helps.
(FYI I am using CPU Spy to determine the exact time spent in "deep sleep", but you can get a general idea of how much awake time you have in the general android battery section of settings.)

Thank you for your post. I hav those issues too and was just starting to look into it. I too am using daydream on charge and seen a wakelock yesterday, that i could get rid off by rebooting. I then recharged to get through the rest of the day and the lock came back. And this morning: exact same thing again. I disabled Daydream alltogether and see if it really is the culprit on my system.
Edit: i don't use alarms on that phone at all.

This morning I had finished my first full charge since disabling daydream and my wake-lock issues appear to have gone (hopefully for good!).

First Full Charge after disabling Daydreams: 3h of the charger and AndroidOS kept my phone awake for 1,5h. So it seems that it was not daydream on my device
Just the same as wireless charging causing random wakelocks after you take it off charge, never got fixed on the N4 and the problem seems to have carried on with the N5. Problem is you sometimes don't realise until you have little or no battery left!

Has anyone found any wake lock app that works? I have no clue what's going on because the stock battery info shows my phone sleeping but the drain means there's a wake lock but no way to know what.

no not yet, they don't like 4.4 /nexus 5 do they. I just know something was up as I put it on the wireless charging pad over night and by lunch time I was at 60% with little usage. I recharged and rebooted and then it was back to normal. Seen it all before with the N4.
I am using my HP Touchpad as a weather station. I have it hung on the wall with a weather app running full screen. I would like for the screen to stay on all the time. It is plugged in. The longest time I can set it to stay on without going to sleep is 30 minutes. I checked the option in the developer's options to keep the screen from going to sleep while the tablet is plugged in, but it doesn't work. Is there something I am missing? Is there something I can install to keep the screen from going to sleep? I would greatly appreciate some help.

The developer's option:
Stay awake
Screen will never sleep while charging
Works and verify using Evervolv Nougat 7.1.2
It should also works with all ROMs.
There are several apps that can do this. I´ve been using this one on another tablet, but it should work on the TP as well. There are settings to keep the device from going to sleep and dimming the screen.
