Seeing all the scary "My screen/speaker/mic/entire thing is broke" threads. I thought I might put mine out here.
It's fine. Rock solid 100%. Amazing External Speaker Quality. Plenty good enough for me. The frame is solid, doesn't pop or creak. The USB port, which is my favorite thing, clicks firmly and USB plugs don't wiggle or make me scared XD.
My screen is fine. No ghosting. No dead pixels. The lock and volume buttons are solid.
My ONLY COMPLAINT...Is that the screen lock/unlock sound is extremely quiet no matter what... >.>
I am sure that is just a software thing though.
So...Yeah. I am sure this is the normal amount of defects, just the whole thing is amplified because we are all spazzing and excited. XD
I love my Nexy. :3
+1

That is what my first impression was!
How is your battery life? I got 5 hours of screen time, with 2 days of total running time. That was charging it from 32% to full when I got it. I just got it down to 5% today, and it is finishing now. I am hoping to see at least 7 to 8 hours now.
Hopefully XD
Only thing I find fault with is my compass needs calibrating. Otherwise OK. No serious sound tests yet, but I'm not planning on using it for music. Had a 2 hour skype conversation and it was ok. Same upside down "me" image as my GSII but that is a skype thing.
Played with the Nexus for about 4hrs straight no issues so far to report here either...
With the Camera app from the Market, I was actually impressed at the quality. It is much better than I thought it was.
Mine appears to be fine too.

Very good to hear! Like I said, I'm sure the amount of defects is pretty much the normal amount. We are just hyped and worried more.
Flawless here as well. And to think I told myself I would never buy another ASUS product again after my 201. It's a good thing I decided to call around Saturday and traded in my vita which was collecting dust. Walk in and all guy said he didn't even expect any in because nobody preordered.
Mine appears fine too. No screen issues. Nothing broken. No strange sounds. Etc.
Loving my Nexus 7 right next to my iPad 3, well now girl friends iPad 3. I also ordered from Google play and am fine with the service i received and a 25 gift card is awesome . It all seems perfect to me, now to get a nexus phone. Also I hope yo write so e software for this thing.
Mine is 98% perfect. I really had no issue all day (very heavy use) until just now when I pressed the left corner and tried very hard to listen for a creak. And I heard a small creak. The screen does not seem to be raised, but there's a tiny creak. I am just wondering if it's me paranoid or this will become a bigger problem (is only my first day).

I seem to have a similar issue. Doesn't appear to be raised compared to the bezel, but it does move when I push on it.
Overall, still satisfied - if this issue persists I'll request a replacement.

Here it is! Just got my Nexus 7 but a really bad surprise waited me. As soon as I opened the box, I experienced the "screen separation" issue that a lot of people had. I tried to look on the web for a real permanent fix as Google's supply are not able to bet me an exchange/RMA that would not require to open the back of the device. I had tried to get the screws tighten without success, I also tried to put spacers in between the screws without success also.. :crying:
I read a lot about fixing this issue; one was explaining how to make the CPU/GPU running and generating heat to get the glue to hold the screen and case together. So I was sitting there watching my battery temp going up to 32-35C/90-95F as my meal was in the oven at 190C/375F. Then I got this great idea. I stopped the stress test, put the tablet in power off state and placed it face down on TOP of the hot spot of the oven; in between the two front elements. I put weigh on top of it and waited about 30-40 min. After that period, I started "Stability Test" available on the Play Store to get the battery temp that was around 47C/115F. I stopped the oven and let it sit for the night face down with weigh on top of it to cool it off. Next morning, surprise! The screen was finally glued. I had no screen seperation since then. It's now being my 5th day without any problem.
Conclusion : FIXED !!
Let me know if that worked for you as well !
A heat gun would probably be easier and safer, glad it worked though.

Interesting idea, hadn't heard that one before. Of course, different stoves will have different hot spots from the oven, so YMMV. How much weight did you put on top of it? Also, do you happen to have a way of measuring how hot the spot gets?
I'd be interested to see if this is a truly permanent solution or if the adhesive starts to break down again after a few weeks or months.

I placed my hand over and touched it.. If the "hot spot" was couple of degres higher, I wouldn't be able to let my hand sit there.. I was at the limit.. For the weight, I used casino's pot full of change.. 2x 8 pounds..

Good to know. Different people seem to have different thresholds for heat (for instance, I remember as a kid I couldn't keep my hands under the same water my mom used to wash dishes), but the spot on my stove doesn't seem to run as hot as you described, so I'd be willing to try it if I run into this issue on my replacement.
All in all, though, I like this idea a lot. There's always a risk, but I'm sure the devices are stress tested with the CPU running at temps hotter than you could reproduce using this method (short of actually putting it inside the oven). As long as you can hold your hand on the spot without it getting too unbearable, I would think it's pretty safe to try.

shocking discovery- missing screws in nexus 7
Long story short:
1st device from best buy : scar like dead pixels, exchanged for second
2nd device from best buy: loose screen/ seperation
Got 3rd device from staples hoping it is better, noticed screen noticeably yellower, minimal seperation problem.
At my last resort, opened up the 2nd and 3rd device, found 3 screws missing from the right side when faced down(or left when screen is up). While the 3rd device is missing one,
. I am so shocked this is happening....no wonder my screen is so loose.
I m a first timer with android device. Own an iphone . Gotta say jelly bean and even the nexus 7 itself is spectacular. But what is with Asus? Have google picked the wrong partner. Or is it is pure poor quality control. Unbelievable.

Okay, so just to make sure what you people do:
1. Heat up the oven
2. Find the hotspot
3. Switch oven off, wait until hot to touch (that'd be a bit over 60C)
4. Switch unit off
5. Put the unit on the hot spot with about 16 pounds (8 kilos) of pressure on top (really?)
6. Wait until it has cooled down naturally
Am I missing anything? How has the fix held for you so far after a month or more?
Thanks, :cyclops:
Did not work for me.
I heated the device to 80C with a hairdryer, then pressed it with clamps (force equal to about 9kg) for about 7 hours.
Separation came back about 1 hour after I released the clamps without turning the device on.
Too bad, as I have no way to exchange it.
I guess I'll just use the case.
5 minute epoxy (or any glue one's comfortable with) is the way to go. The problem is obvious once the bevel is removed - the glue on the left side on my device had cured without holding the glass. Hard to believe heating and pressing would work at all.

My initial Nexus 4 has a small hole in the centre of the backlight through which light escapes when viewed from any sort of angle. It's quite distracting, so I've elected to send it back. I've only seen one other user with this defect.
Half the threads on this forum are about problems people are having, and each seems to have a respectable number of vocal sufferers. But people come here because they have these problems, and it's tough to determine how the average customer is making out.
I'm mostly curious because I have no idea what to expect of the replacement I receive. Glue blotches? Who knows.
I wonder what the actual % is. Poll up top for those interested.
I have the speaker problem but i can not hear it. My buddy's N4 has it has well. He said he thinks his is worst on his phone. Because i can not hear it i do not think there is a problem. Over all i have been very happy with the phone. I can't wait for Franco to get his so we can get some better kernels.
These results will always be obscured. People that don't have a reason to complain usually won't make a thread saying" hey got my phone today, works as expected"

I'm the only person I've seen posting with my defect -- the camera LED doesn't work, no flash, no flashlight. I'm obviously getting a replacement, shipped today.
Mine has a yellow tint on the bottom half of the screen. Replacement was shipped out today
My Nexus 4 locks up in deep sleep (while charging usually). In order to restart the phone, I have to hit Power + Vol Down which shows me the charging animation, afterwhich I can hit power to start the phone. I've already wiped the phone and flashed the stock 4.2 image from Google, and uninstalled any applications known to be incompatible. Seems to be a hardware issue so I requested an RMA.
Mine acted odd but, sometimes when I have a notification, I can't wake the device's screen forcing me to do a power cycle.

Had a speck of dust stuck between the screen and the display. It was super annoying at first because there was a glue "halo" around it, which dried up and it ended up looking like a huge dead pixel.
Replacement arrived fine, but I have had a problem with both phones rebooting constantly when pushing them. It's starting to really piss me off.
Anyone else notice the vibration function is off sometimes. At time its feels great like it should, but other times it feels a little too strong, like it's a little loose.

When you come to a forum about hardware you will have a high rate of people who have faults, that is natural as people come to ask. You can only find out for yourself and luckily the consumer is protected by law for the first 30 days or whatever they have to decide they aren't happy with it.
The build quality does look quite shocking though.
Hope they don't pass all the replacement directly to LG like what they did on Galaxy Nexus after receiving too many replacement call.

Just from reading through a load of the threads in this forum, I've noticed a lot of indecision.
Let me explain...
Apparently, this phone has not got enough in stock to make sure everyone gets one, there's a buzz from the earphones, it heats up too much, it has poor battery life, poor touch sensitivity, easily scratchable, screen smashes too much, it drops down the toilet too easily, it makes a rattling noise, yellow tint, screen glitching, the screen looks washed out, massive interference whilst using a car charger, a looping FC of Bluetooth Share, not enough vibration, it randomly reboots, black dots under the screen, no connection on WLAN, not enough storage, dead pixels, grainy photos, LED flash doesn't work, wonky haptic feedback, antenna gate issue, slight lift on screen, brightness gets broke, unresponsive power button, slow auto focus, creaking on bottom right of the device, most free media from the play store only available in the US, purple glaze effect on the camera, wireless charging problems, the onscreen soft key, poor WiFi signal, gap between bezel and the side of the phone, it won't drive your car for you and it won't grow legs and kick your enemies.
I'm surprised I haven't seen a complaint saying that the box it comes in is 1mm too thick.
And yet the majority of people think it's the best phone ever.
Just make up your freaking mind!!!!!

The vibration works well, my alarm went off in my pocket when I was driving, gave me a boner so it's clearly strong enough! lol
People seem to be vocal with problems. I've always received an item, decided if it lives up to my expectations and returned it if it doesn't, without moaning on the forums. If it's a software issue, like most of my niggles I'm going to just deal with them until the fix comes, since this is a Nexus device after all, we're in good shape for updates!
Products have issues, welcome to the realm of early adoption.
Phil
Yep I agree. As much as everyone wants the perfect device you can't have cutting edge tech the day it comes out AND have a perfect device.
Under testing there is simply not enough retail devices made at this point to mass test under mass production conditions for long enough to find faults.
Even apple and Samsung and Sony etc etc all release devices be it phones TVs laptops hard drives or a desk fan all will be released before kinks are worked out
This is not deliberate, its just that issues which come up have not been found yet.
Check any identical devices made even 4months apart and you will no doubt find that there are different revisions of board used in them or chip.
Plastic production can be different and parts can be sourced else where .
So unless a recall is required for a dangerous fault, issues will be resolved in future devices.
This is not lg this is anything with a plug that this relates to.
I do agree however many cosmetic flaws should never pass quality control as they are easy enough to see and most of these QC checks are done with cameras now not humans so any discrepancy should be picked up easily to be referred to a human to double check.

Yeah, F this forum! Let's move to 4chan/nexus4!
Mine has a slightly buzzing earpiece and the screen seems a little darker on one side although this is probably just my eyes lol.
I have none of the other issues, and have to say that it is a MUCH better phone than the SGS 3 I had for six months.
I was constantly changing ROMS on the SGS3 and was never 100% happy.
This phone is built better, is louder, has a stronger vibrate, better screen, louder and clearer speaker, clearer in calls, much faster and is truly smooth and lag and skip free. The touchscreen is perfect.
Cannot make even one complaint about this phone that would put me off it.
I am enjoying my phone a ton!
My phone rattles but since I don't have Parkinsons I don't hear it.
I have the buzz but the only time I would be able to hear it is when I am on the phone and either me or the other person is talking to I can't hear it!
I don't take my phone to the bathroom so I haven't dropped it in the toilet yet.
Overall a great phone and totally worth the purchase price!

I've had my V for about a week now, and I noticed yesterday that if I squeeze at all from the sides, the whole frame seems to "give" a bit and makes a bit of a creaking sound. Anyone else have this? The phone hasn't been dropped at all. Not that I'm in the habit of squeezing my phone, but it's definitely noticeable, and it also seems that if the frame is prone to bending, it could lose it's watertightness as well.

Yesterday I rested my feet on the table, forgetting my V was on it and landed my heel on it. I realized that only after I completed a game of dota 2, and started looking for my phone and found it sanwiched between my feet and the table. Glad to tell you it wasn't damaged whatsoever. So don't worry yourself.
You got it, enjoy it.
Yeah, it's not that I'm worried about it falling apart or bursting into flames or anything like that, I guess I'm just a bit bummed that something I spent a bunch of money on doesn't seem to have the build quality to match the price tag. I love the phone otherwise, so I was just wondering if this is an issue with my phone, or is it common with all V's.

my v also have similar 'click' effect like button press on the lower left frame if pressed.
Lower left side is making noice for me too, but just press hard and make sure you got it tight fit everytime you close the backside, so now my squeaky sound is gone.

Yeah, mine has gotten a bit worse over the last couple weeks. Pressing on either side pretty much anywhere on the lower half of the phone causes fairly loud squeaking noises. I haven't had time to take it in for warranty, and I don't know if it's even worth it if it's just going to do the same thing.
Sent from my LT25i using Tapatalk 2
I think it could be a problem with the nxt design. My XT does the exact same thing. Seems to be a common issue overall.
Sent from my LT30p using xda premium
I can confirm this on my T as well. Upper left corner gives in a fraction of a millimeter (barely visible but visible, if you know what I mean) if I squeeze it and it also makes a audible noise, but I also believe it's the way the devices are designed. I'm kind of unhappy this happens for the money I spent, on the other hand, the T was considerably cheaper than a Galaxy S3 or so and it's on par regarding power. And way cooler, it can squeak I'm usually VERY PICKY about things like that, but I guess I'll get used to it. Especially after putting it in an all around rubber/gel case, I'll keep it unless it starts to seriously desintegrate any time soon.
The squeaking sound is there but it has been reduced after getting a case so I'm not so worried anymore. I suggest for you to get a case. Those hard rubber case works well in protection.

I have no issues at all with the build quality, its absolutely brilliant for me. Xperia T, I would recommend it to anyone.
Yes, it's a common issue
I'd describe the quality as flawless. The build is excellent. Nothing to worry about.
The squeeking comes from the rather extreme design and material choice, doesnt influence the build though. As said, nothing to be worried about, I reckon.
It is premium build quality.. Don't bother with those who goes looking for noises after bending and squeezing the phone snev found a noise.. Just enjoy it, coming from a HTC one x.

I'm not looking for problems. Maybe this is just an issue with my handset, whatever, but it is annoying. Anyway, I put a case on the phone and decided not to bother with returning it, so there's no point in me complaining about it any more.

I just wanted to let you guys know my situation.
I have had problems with the build quality! I got my phone from Carphone Warehouse (UK) on Friday, I noticed a dead pixel and that the vibration was really loud (sounded cheap) so I took it back, the 2nd one I got the power button rattled like mad, I swapped it again and the same thing is happening with the power button. I am sick of it now and although the software is superb I cannot deal with the build quality. I'm now on the hunt for a different phone.
Cool story bro if your letting a freaking button keep u from keeping a phone then idk what to tell u

My power button makes a little noise too...but only when I shake the phone. Which really isn't a problem for me.

Sorry to hear man. While I'm sure your not the only person that will have this issue, I'm equally certain most will be just fine.

You get what you pay for. Really sad. Same issues as N4.

I can imagine it being annoying but lets not forget the iPhone 5s has many reports of loose/rattly power buttons too and they cost double of what the Nexus 5 costs.
Not making excuses for LG/Google but even Apple isn't immune to this.
Recently I even saw an article about the Note 3 having a loose or crooked home button. In all reality nothing is perfect, there is a margin of error allowed for every phone that comes off of the line that's just how it goes.
I don't think the build quality is the best, it feels quite cheap and feels as if it could break easily. The Gorilla Glass 3 feels amazing to touch though!

And that's why I wait for the problems to iron themselves out before I order a new phone.
power button is fine on mine however the volume button edges are razor sharp and seem quite rough.
Anyone else have this?
nexus 4 first releases had issues with the buzz noise in the ear piece. risks of being a pioneer user for the phone? At least you can freely get it replaced for now. after I RMA'd, I received one with perfect build quality. Keep trying!
Must be lucky then, no dead pixels here and any noticeable backlight bleed and the buttons are fine apart from being slighly rough on the sides. Cant fault the build quality here and I would say you're simply unlucky, 1 dead pixel is nothing in a display and for just a simple thing as the button rattling when you shake it... who shakes their phones? This reminds me of the silly thread in the N4 section where the autofocus for the camera caused a rattle when you shook the phone yet alot of people went OCD on it and were livid on such a small issue.
First part with the dead pixel I believe is fair but you replaced it and got one that didnt have a dead pixel so BQ doesnt sound like an issue...

Yep my note 3 home button was loose...but thats an $850 device i expect better than that. The nexus is dirt cheap so no biggie if something like that happens...
sent from Canada via my S3,S4, Note2 or Note 3. (nexus 5 on the way!)
Just out of curiosity has anyone elses buttons rattle when you shake the phone. Im only asking as a point of reference. I know many will say it theirs doesn't but lets be honest Iv heard it a million times then I go to a store and try a a few and find they all do to some extent. It would be great to hear from those that have the phone and honestly,
hey if it rattles it rattles it will just be the way its made that results in a rattle. I would think it strange though that LG would put so much effort into making ceramic buttons for durability and longevity then not fit them properly on production.
so I would suggest this is probably normal although i never tried shaking the phones I had hands on today though,
The ones I had hands on did have a sharp edge to the buttons. Didn't bother me though its simply the type of material they are made from. Its not like it will cut off a digit and nice that it felt solid. It also had a nice click to them as well when using them.
When I get me N5, if the only issue it has is a rattling power button I will be more then ecstatic and consider that one hell of a device.
I wouldnt care as long as dust doesnt get in the screen Im fine. HTC always had that issue. Plus I am getting a case so I am not worried.
Solution to your button problems:
Get a decent case, like the Spigen Neo Hybrid: HERE

Get a case it should keep it from rattling. I think the phone is too good to return for a reason like that unless you wanna switch it for another one again u might get a betternone

Tbh in all the ones Iv held there isnt much to go wrong. Unless there is any noticeable pixel issues.
the only thing i foresee as being a common fault cry will be the back plate and any gaps between the edge of this and where it meets the phones frame because its secured in with clips around the backplate. So its logical to assume that since its not glued or screwed down at every point around the device there will be points that you would be able to get a nail under and bend/flex a bit more than other points.
However this is not a fault its just through the way its secured down.
Besides this and the sharp edge of the buttons there is really nothing else to be faulty on this. Earpiece and speaker all seems to be of good quality and screen is gorgeous.
Like everything else there will be the odd faulty one that slips though but im pretty surprised at how well this seems to be put together
