Stop posting things from other sites on XDA! - HTC Vivid, Raider, Velocity

Just don't do it, its not your work to be sharing...if the developer wanted/was allowed to then he would post it here
There has been three threads closed in just one day because three different people decided to share others work here...
Now can we all please stop posting/sharing work from other sites...this is XDA, not the one stop shop for all development sites

This is being taken care of with the mods of the site. Do not assume permission was not granted.
Some people wanted to share the development of kernels/roms and did not realize its implications on face value. (some people being me)
I do apologize for cluttering the dev forum but ths thread is not necessary either. If you have any issues you can report directly to the mods running these forums.

Lol, I didn't mean anything by it...I was just really sick yesterday (food poisoning) and was easily annoyed because of it...usually I'm not annoyed and could care less
Im actually probably gonna request a mod close this thread

Yeah I'm kinda sick of this developer -member-moderator war. It needs to be handled via pm. Fact is this isn't our site, and we all need to abide by the rules. We don't have any rights on a privately owned forum. Mods are people too and they make mistakes and if you feel someone was banned or moderated unfairly take it to the admin. I don't know what all went down and I don't care to know either. I'm not here for this high school drama I'm here to learn more about my devices. This posting of rubbish threads to revolt is just lunacy!

Thread has been closed but OP is right here.
Usually we are not against posting things from other forums (though if they are in complinace with our rules) but there are some simple cases:
_ We do not allow reposting materials by banned devs/users.
_ If a dev on another site request to do not repost his work....well, what do you not understand here?

Thank me to thank-you.

So it's come to my attention that the thank-you system on XDA is a method by which people's contribution to XDA is measured.
For instance, a developer provides a new custom ROM that is well liked: BAM! he receives thank-you's.
In noticing all this, I've come to realize that there are a lot people who just aren't thanked enough.
My solution: I'll thank you.
Create a post identifying yourself, and thank me, and I'll thank you right back. In this way, everyone wins!
~Jasecloud4
To clarify rules:
You can only post for a thank-you once a day.
Only thank me on this post. In this way I can only be thanked 1 time by each of you, yet you can receive as many times as days you post.

It will still get locked, its been tried before man
That may be true. But why would the MODS lock something that is within the rules? That doesn't seem normal.
~Jasecloud4
And hey, I invite the mods to join as well. Everyone needs a thank-you!
Free thanks? Sure

God, it smacks of having fake friends on facebook, or even creating fake profile which are used just to direct appreciation to the real profile. (See Ebay scammers et al). I feel violated at the merest suggestion that the same tactics would be employed here!
The thanks system works a treat as it is, and if it inspires people to raise their game and think more about the usefullness of what they're posting then we all win. What we don't need is a corrupt and fake immitation of the system!

There are question threads in the development section?! I guess there are a few ways to root the s7. But why could noone make a sticky ? I think even me who is new to the s7 section here in xda, can write that.
Why does no one stop the spam in dev ?

There's an easy answer to your question, here in the Streak forum we have the laziest moderators I have EVER seen in ANY forum... the same noob can post in 10 threads the same question practically whereever he wants, how many times he wants with no discipline, yet when one of us experienced users makes a comment about it, we get a speeding ticket as I like to call it... the threads are CLOGGED with post after post after post of the same junk from noobs that REFUSE to do anything but be allowed spoon fed information.... my rant is done
so i think we must do something.

Hey man I'm with ya but what can we do. EVERYTIME I post a rant going off on how untidy the DELL forums here on xda are I get criticized instead of agreement. I have other android devices and even an HTC HD7 I bought to try out, and the MODS in EVERY other forum I visit pounce on the noobs in a minute, delete useless, chastise them for now searching, reposting in different sections, here they just reign free like kids on a playground and the mods are stuck inside like they are scared to put things in order, and when they do say something, it's to folks like me that are doing THEIR job for them...
So what do we do, you tell me...
I think if there are stickies and more people who help quite fast and understandable, it will stop.
Dude, i came to xda because of my SE Xperia X8, there are stickies, good mods etc.
But here, the normal users must do the work of the mod. Btw who is the mod here?

I can't even remember his/her/their handles.... I try to put the names out of my mind because the most I see them do is move a thread every now and then around and come down on those of us that don't spoon feed the noobs
Ive have written a post for the noobs. I really hope that is someday be a sticky.

You bros remember when this place was only for developers?

I remember when noobs were encouraged to read and not post, when posts in development threads would be deleted if they weren't conducive to development. No cluttering threads with "thanks" or feedback regarding personal preferences.
It was because of this that I didn't join XDA for quite some time (I'm by no means a mobile developer, to be clear). The entire time that I had my T-Mobile Dash (HTC Excalibur), I avoided registering because it was very clear to me that this place was just for developers. 2007 was a big year for XDA, which might be where things start to change. XDA made it into the news and tech blogs when the community bumped heads with Microsoft. A lot of noobs joined as a result. I was one of the many noobs that joined that year, now with my T-Mobile Wing (HTC Herald). While being a noob became more acceptable, this place was still for the developers. Noob bashing was encouraged as long as it was done with a smile. But with the sheer number of smart phones that have come out, this place has been flooded with new members looking to tinker with their devices. XDA has embraced these new members, and now the developers don't call us noobs anymore. They call us users.
This isn't a bad thing. It's just an observation I had. Made me get all nostalgic. Definitely been a major shift over the years.

Ok, the thread is meant to be a bit intrusive. But...its more for stats, cause I wonder how many people appreciate others work? Sometimes I look think "Oh man that would have taken them freakin ages to make hmmm yeah I better swing em some bux". But then I think to my self 'well...what's a reasonable amount to donate?'
Rules are:
For the sake of not starting sh!tfights over who has better ROM

bla bla bla and people going off topic, we are not disclosing who we donated to and/or reason why we donated.
So it will be number of devs
Total amount
Date (not day of month...just month and year for perspective)
Possibly a break down on amounts if you want so long as it doesn't break the rule above^^^
I'll start
XDA
09/11 - $10.05AUD
02/12 - $20.00AUD
03/12 - $10.00AUD
03/12 - $25.00AUD
05/12 - $5.00AUD
Total $70.00
Google Market
10/10 - $5.00AUD
I dont think that this is appropriate as any donations should be between user and developer. Then you have no way of actually confirming the donations so im sure people will make themselves seem more charitable. And last but not least, if it was for percentages and statistics you should have started a poll in this thread.
Firstly, if you read my rules you would see that it was aimed to protect what you raised. I don't need to check if the people paid them or not? It wasn't about that...people can lie and claim they donated heaps and I wouldn't know? But that would be kinda stupid wouldn't it?
I wanted to start a poll, but I've never done that before...and a poll would entice the thought that this was something structured when its not.
I wanted to see what sort of thing seems fair or common, cause my belief is that not many people donate at all and hardly any amount if they do. But on odd occasions i see a post and it make me wonder again...or believe that this isn't true, that there are donators.
Do you understand where I am headed now?
James
I can't remember, but i have donated.
I just join not too long ago im tight at the moment once i get spare money ill be happy to donate to xda development

I haven't donated directly to anyone through XDA - but I support Lowveld on the HTC DesireS forum by buying his apps from the market even when he includes them for free in his ROMs.
Oh yeah, ib4l as well
Donations are a private matter, no matter how little info you are asking for.
With that in mind, thread closed.

Bann this user

Nothing to explain, just we need a "BANN THIS USER" button.
Some 1 is acting like how much he is expert or kid. You can see his post everywhere, even he replies to threads which doesnt belongs to him. e.g in Huexxx. Even he suggests developers in vain to use his work e.g. Boype.
We really need some strict rules.
Every where I see, just his posts. Daily 10-12 posts and 1-2 new threads. Uff some 1 please stop him.
CAN NOT WE HAVE A BANN THIS USER LIKE ONLINE GAMES?
we have already a "report this post" button
it has same task
you will report, moderator will look, if it necesery ban user...
you or we cant decide this.
If everyone would have a ban button it would have been caos on xda...

I had no wish to point out by his name but if you will monitor our community you can pick him easily. Anyways reporting is better coz "he" has a abussive start even in his own modded rom thread.
Ahm... aint that boy doing more good than harm?
Anyways I think your thread is also far from being strict and stretched to the rules you mean.

There is no purpose to this thread. If you have a problem with a user, report it and we'll take it from there. If someone just plain irritates you consider this - you may be irritating someone. So they should be able to ban you? Understand one thing in life - not everyone thinks like you do. Learn when to just let it go.
