Hi as i wait for my skyrocket to get fixed a friend loned me a nexus one with the s/n ending in 100 t-mobile in the us or videotron in canada my original network is rogers like att in the us.
My question is this if i flash a 110 version on this 100 version phone would it unlock the radio bands needed for 3g or is it really hardware specific?

Not being from the US or Canada I can't answer that directly. However something tells me that you can't/shouldn't do it.
Be very careful or you could end up bricking it. Perhaps you'd be better off using it "as is" until you get your own phone back.

Hello community,
I couldn't find any info through the Search, so I was hoping someone could let me know if a rooted Nexus One for T-Mobile would work on AT&T. I have the unlocked bootloader, custom recovery image and ROM, the whole 9 yards, but what I don't have is the understanding about GSM networks and how the modifications I made to my phone affect the cross-network compatibility.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.
The two models operate on different gsm bands. An unrooted t-mobile n1 will work on att, but only on edge..

They are ALL sold unlocked in the states.
True but there's 2 different unlocked versions and what the guy above you said is true.

Rooting should have no affect on it.
And if its the TMO version of the phone you will only have 2g (edge) on ATT. Seeing as both networks use different frequencies. And the cellular antenna will only be tuned to pick up 3g+ signals from TMOs frequencies.

I think..
But AT&T doesn't allow apps to be installed via apk files. So no 3rd party stuff.
If I'm correct.

You are so painfully incorrect. At&t has no presence on this phone. Get your facts right before you post here.
a T-Mobile Nexus One wont work on at&t's 3G network. Only on edge. Rooting has no effect.
Now close the thread.

Hello, guys. I just came to USA and I do not how everything works here. I want Droid 3 as you can already know because I am posting here) I can buy this perfect device only locked by verizon but I do not like their plans so I think that AT&T will be good for me.
So as I understand after reading this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1172521&page=1 the necessary steps are the following:
1) I buy the phone for example here Droid 3 by motorola .
2) I buy the unlocking code at ebay (the seller is freedomobile).
3) I unlock the device using above code.
4) I buy the AT&T SIM-card.
5) I activate the SIM-card
and everything should work. Is everything correct?
And one more question: will I have the warranty?
How about buying already unlocked phone here http://negrielectronics.com/motorola-xt860-droid-3-850-1900-3g-unlocked.html
Thank you very much.

I am not going to preach about searching or anything because it's quite lame IMO.
However, to answer your question, it won't work. From what I understand, Verizon was able to convince/modify/something with Motorola to prevent GSM networks inside the US to use the phone. I am not sure of the technical reasons specifically, but as far as I know, an unlocked Droid 3 just will not work on US GSM networks.
Besides, I strongly discourage against AT&T. There are reasons why people are willing to pay slightly more for Verizon.
Verizon tinkered with the baseband firmware which blocks all US GSM networks. We cannot replace the firmware unless we have an unlocked bootloader.

The D3 can be flashed to Cricket. The Droid 2 Global, which is also a global, can be flashed to Cricket. The thing is that VZW doesn't want their global phones being used on GSM bands (AT&T/T-Mobile) in the US.

So, the only way to buy the phone in USA is choosing the operator at first and then choosing the phone on the web site of the operator, correct?
And how about already unlocked devices by negrielectronics?
If you can get the proper unlocking code it WILL work on ATT. I know TeamBlackHat(which has a good reputation) sells these codes and has successfully done it.

They are pretty reputable. They sent Jon over at technobuffalo a htc sensation that was unlocked and could be used on att. I would say go for it.

XT860 (Bell and OEM) may work, read few success stories about it.
The regular XT862, which is verizon's version will not work definitely.
I'm not from the US though, but I visit the states every summer and I know that my upcoming XT862 will not work while i'm visiting

Have similar question with regards to this problem.
I am using a Droid3 XT862 that has been unlocked, and I'm living in Jamaica.
However for some reason I cannot get the phone to work with one of my local networks. I can get it to work with two of them, namely Digicel and Claro. But I cant get it to work with Lime for some strange reason. I know the phone is capable to operate on the bandwidths which are listed below:
Digicel: GSM 900/1800 MHZ, UMTS 900 MHZ
Lime: GSM 850/1900 MHZ, UMTS 850/1900 MHZ
Claro: GSM 850/1900 MHZ, UMTS 850/1900 MHZ
All of which can work on the phone, and I also believe I shouldn't have the problem because I'm not using a US network where use is firmware locked. But my network of choice is Lime who is the only network that offers 3g locally. When I put in my lime sim it says "invalid sim card/no sim" and when I try to register to the lime network the phone says "Your sim card does not allow a connection to this network".
Any suggestions/solutions?

(@wjones) Just head over Droid 2 Global section.
But before you do so, let me give you the bad news. TBH solution will not work on D3, neitheron does on newer D2G/DPro firmwares. It is all described there by CellZealot (TBH) in the D2G thread. Sorry, if you want D3 on AT&T, go buy Bell XT860.

Does anyone know if there will be a physical difference in the Tmo, Sprint, and AT&T version? What about hardware? If all 3 phones were same, and there needed only one development thread, I'd be thrilled. Probably pipe dream

Yes there is some hardware differences, the most prominent one being CDMA vs GSM. You definitely don't want to flash gsm fw on a cdma phone and vice versa.
Hi all, because sprint is removing my discount (I've been a customer for over 10 years) it is cheaper to move to T-mobile, but it has already been over 14 days and I cannot return my current sprint phone.
I currently have it rooted and unlocked, but I'm wondering if it is possible for me to just somehome keep this phone, but use it on the T-mobile network instead of having to sell this, and than buying a new one and losing money.
Any help is GREATLY appreciated,
Thank you!
Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't they make it illegal to take your phone to a new carrier without your current carriers permission. Granted I do not know the details. But from what I understand the networks are not compatible so I do not think you would be able to do that. One is CDMA and the other is GSM.
I'm surprised no one's answered this simple question.
To answer your question, no. No way in hell. Sell your phone and get it T Mobile Phone simple as that.

They removed your discount when you upgraded. Go back into the store, fill out the form and fax it to Sprint. You will then have your discount back. You just have to re-verify every 2 years.

No, for two reasons...
1. The phone won't do GSM inside the US.
2. Even if it could do GSM in the US, it lacks UMTS 850, UMTS 1700 and LTE 1700, hence performance on T-Mobile as a smartphone will be poor.

You could easily make 550 off of your One, assuming it's in like-new condition.

I was wondering this because I have somebody that wants to trade there ONE for my Nexus 4. Is there a way to make this the Google edition by flashing a rom? Also can't I just flash T-mobile radio's to get it to work on T-mobile if it doesn't?

There are plenty of threads that go into in depth discussion about this. Search for them. As of now, the answer seems to be no. You can get LTE and 3g but not HSPA+ I believe? I'm not sure of the details...

FML I finally find somebody willing to trade straight across and it's not worth it x.x
If it is worth your while to trade I would look into the possibility of flashing compatible radios, which in many cases is quite feasible. On another note the HTC One is an excellent device which only took minutes for me to transform into a Google Play Edition on not only an AT&T GSM variant, but a Sprint CDMA version as well. These ROMS even allow OTA updates, so as I said before if its worth your while there should be a solution. Please come to me with any issues or concerns you may have, I have been working with the HTC One for some time now and have become quite familiar with the device.
