Nexus 7 check capture app compatibility? - Nexus 7 General

does anyone know if any of the check capture apps for banks (or more specifically paypal) will work with the n7 since it only has a front facing camera? i am selling my gslate this weekend and was planning on picking up the n7 but just thought of that important need that i've been used to

Nexus 7 case & stylus and initial comments.

I ordered my Nexus 7 (16 GB) on July 30th from the Play Store, right after I got an email saying this version was now available,
It arrived August 2th at the end of the day.
I scrambled to find a case to protect it and read about the Poetic cases here.
I thought about using it naked with just a film to protect the screen, but ended up opting for an inexpensive case instead.
Amazon had this one for $7.95 with two day shipping for Prime customers.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008IEGS4C/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i01
At the same time I decided I'd look into purchasing a stylus too.
After a little research I settled on this one.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00495WTTC/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00
Of course, wouldn't you know David Pogue would have an article in the NYTimes about the use of the stylus, one day after I ordered this one!
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/08/02/t...s-state-of-the-art.html?_r=1&ref=personaltech
The case and stylus arrived in the mail today.
Total cost for the16 GB Nexus 7, case and stylus was $306.22.
So far I couldn't be happier.
I love the tablet size and features.
I love the fact that it can fit in my purse or jeans pocket.
I love the fact that it doesn't have a lot of other piece parts to worry about.
Yes, I think it could use a rear facing camera.
That hasn't been the case with my use of other tablets, but the 7 inch size would make a center rear facing camera more practical.
It's less unwieldy than the 10 inch tablets.
That would beg the question of other ports, HDMI and accessory storage and additional cables.
Plenty of room for other versions of 7 inch tablets, but this minimalist version is fine for me.
I do miss Flash support.
There's a lot of content on the web that still uses Flash.
I can't use Amazon's Prime streaming video, though using the xScope Browser I could still get it to work with Ice Cream sandwich.
The microphone app was great with maps.
It took me right to the location with street views too.
There's a lot to learn and I've just touched the surface in 24 hours.
So far so good...onward and upward through the manual I go.
Yes, I recommend this form factor and design!
Thank you too for your recommendations and suggestions in this forum.
you can use flash

When I tried the Flash Plugin using Firefox Beta on an Amazon Prime streaming video, I got no sound.
Everything else worked okay.
When I tried the same procedure on a another flash video, however, I had sound.
Any idea why the plugin doesn't produce sound for Amazon streaming video?

I'm not sure I'm downloading the correct Flash Plugin from Four Square because I'm still seeing the same thing happen.
Could you please tell me who did the Plugin you are recommending and how long ago it was produced?
It's hard to see the detail of the available Plugins if you don't know the author and date.
Thanks!

My goof, thanks for pointing that out!
Could you please tell me which apk you are recommending?
There are several on the 4share.com site.
It's curious that the procedures you recommend work with other Flash content, just not for Amazon Prime streaming video.
Now that Apple has announced their Amazon Prime app, we need one for jelly bean too.
It would be especially useful if someone could dream something up that would work with Chrome.

Want advice.... upgrade to which tablet? Nexus 7? Galaxy Tab2?

I am selling my T-mobile Galaxy Tab (the original) to a coworker.
The original plan was to buy a Nexus 7, but after reading about it I learned that it:
1. Doesn't have a rear camera
2. Doesn't have TV-out
3. Doesn't hardware decode DivX/mkv
So now I am torn between the Galaxy Tab 2 7" and the Nexus 7.
My problems with the Galaxy Tab 2 7" are:
1. It doesn't have as nice a resolution/screen
2. Proprietary connector
The TV out is what really bugs me....but I am not sure if Tab to Tab 2 is a big enough jump
Anyone have any advice?
nook color
After spending far too much on far too man devices;
Tab7
Nexus7
Nexus1
Transformer
Note II
Nook Color
Nook Simple
HPTouchpad
The most useful I've found is STILL the original Tab7 once CM10 put on it (well Humberos's rom to make it TabletUI).
Ok, the newer games aren't available, but for day to day actual using it, the apps/flexibility/sd-card storage/camera, it's been hard to beat.
Perhaps the Nexus7 for tablet/gaming, and a reasonable phone that'll let you bluetooth tether? One with a decent camera in?
If tv out and a rear camera are crucial to you, then get the Tab.
But performance wise the N7 is leaps ahead, the Tegra processor is gritty like a Corvette

The New Nexus 7 or Nexus 10
I too was torn between getting the nexus 7 or galaxy tab 2 I ended up going with the nexus and have no regrets.this thing is awesome. Screen is amazing, the ability to use it as a phone,I text and call my using my nexus all the time.plus with usb otg, storage is not an issue. My g2x has the ability to hdmi out to the tv so watching content via android device to tv is not an issue for me. And it's freaking fast!!

The Nexus 7 might lack a couple of things but do remember that it comes at a great price and it's hardware is pretty awesome! I'd take a Nexus 7 anyday! Direct updates from Google and runs any game and app you want it to? Phew! Yes please xD
After 3 days I gave my brand new Nexus 7 to the girlfriend and went back to my SGT7.
Thanks to XDA and Stimpz0r, I just don't need new hardware.

I was facing a similar dilemma when deciding on a 7" replacement for my trusty SGT7. To cut the long story short, my eventual decision was the iPad mini. Before you guys commence the flaming, allow me to list down my considerations.
1) Rear Camera
I work in an environment that prohibits camera phones. As such, my primary device (phone) is not equipped with any cameras and it is therefore important for me that my secondary device (tablet) comes with a decent camera, since it would be my only camera on the go. Of the current crop of 7 inchers, the Nexus 7, Nooks and Kindles all fail to hit this mark. The Galaxy Tab 2 has a reasonably decent rear camera so that stayed in contention. As for the iPad mini, its rear camera is probably the best of the lot and that factored heavily in my consideration.
2) Official Software Updates
Frankly, I'm still rather miffed with Samsung's poor software updates for the SGT7. Cutting official major software updates for a one year old device does not inspire much confidence in their subsequent products. Apple, on the other hand, continue to offer major software updates for their products in the 2nd and even 3rd year of their lifecycle (case in point: the iPad 2 and iPhone 3GS). The Nexus 7 would have been my go to device on the Android platform, since I'm confident that Google will continue to support the device for years to come, but alas, it doesn't meet my requirement for rear camera.
3) Proprietary Connectors
Both Samsung and Apple have their own proprietary connectors. However, only Samsung's connector is a constant source of frustration for me. I cannot fathom why the SGT7 does not charge with generic usb chargers, without a 3rd party adapter. I was on an overseas trip recently and it skipped my mind to bring along the adapter. As a result, I had no means to charge my SGT7 throughout the entire trip using the usb charger in the rented vehicle. The same usb charger could charge an iPad with no problems. Moreover, there are plenty of 3rd party products that support Apple's connector (e.g. radio docks, external power banks, etc) but I've not seen a single one that supports Samsung's.
Of course, the iPad mini's dated guts and last gen screen leaves it trailing the competition, but the smooth user experience and arsenal of tablet optimized apps still outweighs the negatives for me. Best of all, I could still hold on to the SGT7 for some Android love as long as it doesn't die on me.
Similar position here. Decided to go with the N7. I can live without the rear camera, and I will also get much better hardware overall compared with the Tab2. Seriously, I used the Tab in store and it lags so much. Neuxs 7 just flies.

I ended up buying a 32GB Nexus 7. MX Player Pro is a decent substitute for all of the native playback options that the Galaxy Tab comes with.... but it is REALLY nice not having to lug around and keep track of my one data cable.
Also, i pushed 4.2 on there via adb sideload yesterday.
yup, yup.
i agree, the SGT7 its a all in one device, movies, tv out, apps + gaming in HD, calling, texting, social networking, skyping for free + video chatting, google internet, and the icing on the cake for me is once i got rid of tmobiles security page my device runs like a regulare phone, so all i pay is $30 a month (us) for unlimited 4g internet, unlimited texting, and 100mnts talk. So i just opened a skype account and pay $18 every 3 months for unlimited talk. So the galaxy tab 7 running cm10 is super fast for me on tmobiles 4g network. Its a no brainer.. lol.. hope this helps... my regards to all, especially all the great DEVS out there keeping our P1000 still ahead of the game ..!!!!!

I would certainly go ahead and pick Nexus 7 because of the hardware and the price its the next gen with a low price tag. Yes I admit. The back camera might be an essential to some but not to all. And the galaxy tab 2 camera is not that "outstanding" either. You could save up and buy a dslr or something.

If I had to choose, I would pick the N7 (that's what I already did). But my sons P100 has CM10 which makes it more directly comparable to the N7 and outside of 3D gaming, there isn't much of a difference speed wise.
Considering the N7 came out a while ago... I would assume they would be releasing another 7" tablet within a few months. The 7" tablet has been their most successful and they have the upper hand on Apple for a while. If Google can keep the lead and stay ahead of the ipad Mini, it'll constantly be a good success.
That said, if you can make due with the GTab a few more months, you'll likely see a new Google 7" tab with the faster S4 snapdragon and a higher resolution screen.

Galaxy Tab 2 7" and 10.1" can be bought for under £150 now. Its a steal. However, no 3G version though, if you could love without that.
Worth a sacrifice though, looking at the amazing price.

[Q] nexus 6 for my 6 plus?

So i took a break with android and tried iOS again so now i have a iPhone 6 plus 16gb. I had a guy offer me a midnight blue 32gb nexus 6 for it i was wondering what do you guys think of that ? Is it worth it ? he is also throwing in $150 on top. Sadly its the at&t model with bloat and branding but it is unlocked, i will be using it on tmobile. So is it worth it for me ? and also can i convert it to the google unlocked firmware instead of being on at&t and waiting for at&t to release ota's?

I personally feel you should take the offer as its fairly easy to get around the bad stuff you mentioned. first off all carrier bloat is user removable. Also all updates to the nexus 6 will come straight from google so you'll get them the same time as everyone else.

How are the cameras on nexus 6 ? i use snap chat with front camera and like taking photos. Are the cameras good ? i had the moto x 2014 and hated how the front camera in low light got super laggy. oh and also if i wanted to trade it for a g4 on craigslist do you think i would have a problem trading the nexus 6 off for one ?

The camera on the Nexus 6 is noticeably better than the Moto X 2014's camera. I have had both devices. With this said, low light images on the Nexus 6 are decent, but not the best. Your 6 plus most likely will have had a noticeably better camera overall than the Nexus 6, but I do feel that the Nexus 6's camera is severely underrated.

The firmware/OS is the same on the AT&T version as every other version.
You don't have to wait for AT&T. There are easy ways to download and flash the OTA. In addition you can also download the factory images from Google and fastboot flash them.

Below you will see a quote from an XDA user who posted in another thread here. He/she does a good job of outlining the positives and negatives of each camera app. I personally use the Google Camera for HDR shots and video recording, but use the manual camera app for RAW capabilities.
Zerreth said:
They all suck.
LCamera is outdated, has no HDR and latest dev build has issues.
FV-5 is slow & buggy atm and I don't like the UI, 4K video is broken, no HDR.
Manual Camera has great UI & Control but no video recording & HDR ?!!!!
Moto X Camera has crappy UI, but feels polished. Burst mode works great, but no HDR. No focus control while recording video.
HTC Camera has crappy UI and no HDR. (But is the best one overall with focus control during 4K Video recording)
Google Camera is a joke but is the only one with working HDR.
It would be nice if google actually used & showcased their own Camera2 API on their own Nexus Devices. But apparently that's too much to ask ?
I'm hoping someone ports over the ColorOS Camera to the nexus 6 as they have done for the Oneplus One. As that one seems to have the most features, processing, and cleanest UI.

Snapchat "lenses"?

Does the "lenses" feature work for any of you guys? All I've seen so far is it on iPhone. However, their update on the play store states that it's only available on newer phones. Can SnapChat just not detect my face or did they leave us out?
same problem here with the note 5. works fine on the note 4 tho.

Hi, I am currently on a n6 and I am thinking of getting the big pixel 2 when it comes out. Would you say this is a good idea? My biggest concern is I am on TMobile and I want my new phone to have 600mhz capabilities. Would you wait or get the pixel 2 even if it does not have 600mhz.
The thinks I an having a issue on is the camera on the front sucks, and I get long loading times for apps and freezing.

I flashed Resurrection Remix ROM on my N6 and it's running flawlessly... There's not many phones that would replace the N6 other than the Nexus 6p and the ZTE Axon 7... I named those phones because of the dual front facing speakers! Also the camera being improved over the N6... The only phone that has my attention that doesn't have dual front facing speakers is the One Plus 3T! 6GB or RAM and it's price! Seeing that phone against the S8+ really has me considering saving my money even if I can get the S8+ at T-Mobile for around $30 a month added to my phone bill...

With the exception of Nexus 6p, that phone is really easy to root! That's what had me stay with the N6 for so long! The development community is huge for these devices! For example, I'm on Android 7.1.1 with all the Pixel features I even have Google's assistant working! The only reason why I'm halfway considering upgrading is because of the camera... I have to use an app that has manual controls to get that focusing issue under wraps! Other than that, this phone is one of the best that I have owned! I like the size, I love the speed and stability, I really like the dual front facing speakers, that's hard to leave! It's so many positives about this device!

IMHO I don't think Pixel XL 2 will be worthy. We'll see when they will reveal the three devices. Maybe Taimen (Pixel XXL ?) will be a good choice, if they don't lock root access/bootloader or take out some features.
You already can improve your camera, many are quite better, but you'll loose many features too.
We had a thread about any worthy phone exchange, Axon 7 was the closest to N6 but not worthy at all. BL locked and camera aren't really better. Everything else is equal.
OP5 looks a good choice for now, heavy hardware configuration, good camera and community, but no front facing stereo speakers, no jack, smaller screen size and maybe definition too, maybe no wireless charging..
I cross my fingers that Taimen will follow N6 line, otherwise idk. I may try OP5 or even MiMix2, I don't really know, I'm a bit lost about that..
This is the next phone I want. I've been waiting for months for it to show up. It's a beast! My only fear is that it won't be rootable
