Hey guys,
I just recently got a refurb Droid 3 after my old one had the backlight go out, I hand't had a chance to bootstrap it and put ICS on it. But I was able to get it rooted. I restarted my phone today and ever since it has been stuck at the M logo screen and I've tried everything I can find to remedy this.
I updated this morning to the most recent OTA update (5.7.906 I believe) and then rooted it.
To fix the issue I've tried a few different things. I tried Pete's SBF to 5.7.890 but I was getting an error about the cbt.bin file. I found that with the recent changed to 5.7.906 you aren't able to directly flash over it to go back to 5.7.890. I then found another post on here which had a script to go back to 5.7.890 from 5.7.906. I ran that and still had the same result.
Any other ideas or anything that I am missing?
I can get into fastboot, I've been using the scripts with moto-fastboot. Normal boot is just leaving me at the M logo, booting into recovery yields the same result.
Any help would be appreciated since I have no clue what else I can do at this point...

I don't have a BT Tools selection. I do have BP Tools though. I selected it and it just sits there on the M logo as well...
I've tried a few of Pete's scripts with no luck so far (worked on the old Droid 3 when I put it back to stock before shipping it back).

Your 1 Click SBF ran fine and completed without errors but I'm still getting the same result, stuck at M logo.
Is there something I could be missing which is making it not boot that most SBFs don't include? That's the only thing I can think of at this point.

I'm fairly certain that could work, if I could ever get into the Stock recovery....I'm not able to boot into anything. Going to try a few other things, if nothing else works I'll just take it in and see if I can get yet another warranty replacement.
Thanks for the responses, if you have any other ideas just let me know.
I think the main thing that needs to be addressed is that I need to be able to get into recovery and then I will be set to fix it. Right now it just sits at the M logo for Recovery (and any other options from the boot menu).

Is there a file in the android system that, sort of like an autoexec.bat, lists what to do on startup? For example forcing the system into recovery or download on power on?
I flashed the latest Vibrant firmware and did so with the option to repartition, which Im now finding out was not the right way to flash this one.
Long story short, it didnt contain the dbdata directory information and now, I am unable to boot and unable to get to download. I still have ADB access, it just isnt responding to ADB reboot download, it just comes right back up booting into recovery to flash the last stage of odin before it starts up.
Is there a way to force the phone back into download mode or force it to stop rebooting into recovery?
Pull battery out and USB to use the hardware buttons to manually get into download mode?

Manual buttons arent seemingly working, so far ive tried every conceivable combination of vol up down and power, even if all I do is plug the phone in Im back in recovery before the battery turns green.
(ps. I know, but I had a billion percent better chance not getting a mouthbreather response, despite the definite chance of flame posts lol)

Have you successfully gotten into Download mode with hardware buttons before? Or are you one of those vibrants with "locked download?"
I have a feeling mines locked, Ive never used the buttons to successfully get into download mode, just adb reboot download
EDIT: Tried the posts suggestions, problem is second I plug in the USB and the battery pops up it goes right to recovery. Even if im holding the buttons before hand.

x_x don't know what to tell you then. With locked hardware, you have to be really careful because if something goes wrong you cant manually get back in there. Do you have Clockwork Recovery? try restoring to a previous nandroid backup.

I was working with that a bit, but it just kept getting to datadata and being unable to wipe or flash to it due to the odin botch. I tried wiping it clean and it just wouldnt let me do that to reflash.
So now im stuck at the samsung recovery screen without the ability to get into clockwork or flash lol
This smells like 130 bucks for a new phone I think... brick number two >.>

I didnt! But when I was formatting and it failed to reapply the nandroid completely cause of the section it couldnt mount, now when I hit reinstall packages it just reboots. Same with shell, it just yells at me and tells me to die in a fire.
if you didnt figure this out, the way to fix it is to first flash WITH ODIN the original JVD firmware and check repartition, then flash the new one IN ODIN without the repartition box checked.
first update includes the dbdata that the phone is looking for.
Yeah, I figured it out now, but Odin is seriously the devil if your phone doesnt have the hardware buttons enabled.
Now heres a question, if I can still get into stock recovery... is there a way to like, you know, recover using the stock system? lol
BUT THE GOOD NEWS IS that Tmo is letting me warranty out my phone for free, shipping me a new one, and gave me a loner while I wait.
TMo for the win.

lol looks like you and I are in the same boat man. Hardware lock FTMFL. I have never been able to get into download mode, or recovery mode with the hardware keys, only with adb reboot recovery/download and terminal emulator app with SU privs. I wish there was a jumper we could reset to unlock it haha that'd be the s*# son. Good old pentium 133 in the palm of the hands, but no . Atleast they are taking care of the people who don't do things properly.
I did the same thing and ended up with the same problem, but i was able to get in into download mode. When i would plug it in it would try to boot into recovery after the battery screen i would use the keys to make it boot to download mode instead of recovery, it was a *****, but i got it, though idk if there is another way for people with locked down phones.
Hi...
Ok.. I was on rogers 2.2 stock, I was trying to follow instructions to install paragon, anyway, it didnt work, my phone was still working great tho.. so i tried flashing stock jh6 with the one click from the wiki here... That worked and I now have a rogers phone with att stuff loading up. anyway, I am trying to complete the instructions for paragon but I can no longer get to recovery mode.
the att logo keeps rebooting if i keep holding down vol up and down, what do I do now ?
Edit : I cant seem to even get to download mode Recovery mode always worked before, download mode was always tricky, but it refuses now
do you have adb installed?? if so run adb reboot recovery in command prompt.
OR
Take out battery, take out sim and SD card. press and hold VOL UP/DOWN. put in battery, press power. release power upon seeing AT&T sign. pray.
Works for me about 99 times outta 100 at this point!
but i prefer adb since its much more fool proof!

<captainhindsight>You should not have flashed JH6.</captainhindsight>
As per the above post, boot the phone, enable debugging and use 'adb reboot recovery'. After you get that sorted, flash the 3 button fix and never flash to stock unless stock firmware is your final destination or your phone is so hosed you have to use download mode to fix it. If you do use odin in the future then use the right one for your phone build so you don't lose your button combos.

Nor should you have allowed yourself to be photographed in a compromising position wit Courtney Love...Sorry, couldn't resist.
but I only followed instructions Everyone that asks was getting told to go try and blah blah, well that was what I was doing.
You know now I am really stuck. I did use adb and restored stock and didnt want to mess with my phone anymore, but the at&t logo kept popping up, im with rogers. I found a fix and was following those instructions when odin screwed up, it started flashing then said it failed, it happened to me once before but my combo key was working then.
I dont understand why it stopped, It seemed to be intermittent, a bunch of issues, after flashing that at&t rom.
I wish I could fix it, I am stressing out over it, ill get the stuff for that jig tomorrow and hope that works. This phone is brand new! I am not a modder or hacker, I got stiffed by rogers and samsung with the voice dial over bluetooth issue, they wouldnt take the phone back.
I would love to have the att logo gone, rogers froyo 2.2, and broken bluetooth.. Its better than a paper weight. Please help me ! You know what.. I can live what that logo.. I just want to get my phone operational.
Goodnight, and thanks for your help.
i'm guessing you didn't flash the 3 button fix that opcow suggested before doing anything else?
if you can get into download mode, flash this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=812434
No I didn't, in its forum it says if you had no problems initially with the 3 buttons, this is not for you. Thats what it said! I was told I shouldnt have done that and should have flashed the 3 button fix after the fact.
I just bought resistors, ill be home later to try and force download mode.
Thanks for your help, I am not as upset as I was yesterday, I was tired.

Hello,

Thank you very much.
How would one go about rooting a Telus Milestone with a VR? Which VR do you choose?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12271864&postcount=3
I just did this yesterday to get the telus update off my phone.
The vr sbf is tiny.
I am trying to start the SBF using RSD Lite, but when I navigate to the SBF file and have my phone plugged in, the "start" button is greyed out. I have no way to click on it.
I installed the Motorola Mobile Drivers v4.9 (64-bit Windows) and RSD Lite v4.6.
Help please!
does it show the phone as connected?
If not, set the usb mode to memory card access or portal tools

Power off phone. Press dial pad up key + power button and release. You will be in bootloader mode. Plug in your phone. rsdlite should recognise your phone. Flash the VR.
Once the phone starts rebooting, before it shows the M logo, press and hold the "x" button for a few seconds and release. It should take you into recovery mode. Run AOR and using console type " rm -f /system/etc/install-recovery.sh " ( without the quotes ).
You can root using phone using the option in AOR.
I ended up rooting with Universal Androot. It seemed to work but I can't get to flashing FroyoMod, I explained it more in detail here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1011153

You got the EOCD error because VR was not flashed. Root is not required for flashing froyoMOD or CM7. VR is the one that's needed. The above method will work for sure.

Try renaming the sbf to something shorter, like VR_90.78.sbf and try.
Alright so I was able to start it but it immediately came up with this error: "Failed flashing process. (0x7100); phone connected."
My bootloader is 90.78, so that SBF should work, right?

It seems to have worked! I'm on the Droid boot animation, not sure how long it should be taking.
EDIT: It's been about 5 minutes that it's stuck on the droid boot animation, is this a bootloop? Did I mess something up? The only thing I did not do was create a nandroid backup, but that shouldn't affect the update, no?

Which animation is it. Just the word Android and thats it? If it's that one, it's hard to tell if it's bootlooping but you would see it flicker if it is.
I got past the Motorola M logo, but now it's been at least 10 minutes that it's stuck on an Android logo, and a green circle around him.

I see. The Overcome thread also has the CWM Recovery as a .zip file which is flashable through Stock Recovery (same procedure as flashing Root). You just put the file in your internal SDcard and flash away. If you still have doubts, read a little bit here, as I'm sure that will clear any doubts you might have.

Don't expect perfection from a port, ever (port = a ROM that's not native to the device). The motley kernel, along with UV can help you in the battery department.

Okay so I am running CyanogenMod 7.2 on my Motorola Milestone A853 and I wanted to install the MIUI ROM so I held the power button and hit Reboot and then clicked Recovery and it did what it was supposed to do; it rebooted and acted like it was going into the Recovery Menu but it got to the triangle where you are supposed to hold Camera and Volume Up and then within less than 1 second it skipped over that and completely rebooted the phone normally. I didn't have time to hit Camera and Volume Up.
So I decided to try completely powering down my phone and powering up while holding the "X" button on the keyboard. And once again it did the same thing as before.
Does anyone have any idea of how I could fix this problem?
Can someone please help me out. I need to fix this ASAP.
I had a similar issue, where I think the recovery got corrupted. You might be able to just reinstall Open Recovery (not sure), but I ended up just starting from scratch and reflashing the sbf.

Well I have officially screwed my whole phone up. I did the unroot using RSD but apparently I didn't get the right .sbf file for it. I'm not sure which one I need. Mine is an unlocked A853 from Amazon.
The .sbf I got was some Italian crap.
Any idea what .sbf I needed to get?
You'll probably need the sbf with the 'vulnerable recovery'. I don't have a link to it (internet restrictions at work), but I believe android.doshaska.net has a link to a guide with everything you need on it, and fairly easy directions.
Or there's a bunch more information in xda threads:

I got it to work. I just installed Vulnerable Recovery and then installed Open Recovery and did it from there. Everything is back to working and all in English. Thanks for your help though. :good:
