this topic applies to an other phone, but the principle should be the same.
Hello
I never tried myself, but if I were you, I would do a mix of reinstalling zeus and nandroid restore ( because nandroid backup don't save the kernel , and you changed kernel within your try of this CM9 rom ) :
- start CWM
- wipe data, cache and dalvik ( named the big three , I learned something here )
- apply 6.3 zeus zip ( hope it's still on your SD )
- apply 6.37 zeus zip
- restore you nandroid backup.
reboot...
But it would nice that somebody with more experience confirms my suggestion.

Thanks a lot. Very elaborate answer
If you have nandroid backup, there is no need to install Zeus zips (6.3 and updates)...
just recover your nandroid and it will be good - nandroid is nandroid, it has your system and data and everything included

I just love the variety of ROM and Kernel's that i can choose
But i haven't found how to properly backup:

So i can use it every time i flash a new ROM
"What happen was:
- That i am now stuck with Rocket Rom V21,
- And i want to pass to DarkyRom 3.3,
- But i don't want to lose all my apps and stuff.
- How can i save all that and load it again after flash a new ROM."
Thanks
PS: Sorry for my ignorance but i have found so many but i haven't found one that i know who to use it.

Option 1: Use Nandroid backup (Root)
Option 2: Use Titanium Backup (Root) for Apps and stuffs. and for SMS/MMS backup there any many Apps available in Market.
i use mybackup root, if you are not rooted there is a version on the market
download app back up and restore[infolife] for apps and netqin sync for contacts both are free and very simple and both back ups ur data on your sd memory
enjoy

But doesn't it restore the kernel and System?
If you do a NAND backup you are backing up the entire OS. So if you restore it, it will be restored to the state you left it in before making the backup. All SMS, apps, call log, everything will be like you left it, including the kernel.
THIS is what you're looking for, and this is what we do before we flash ROM's, so when we want to go back to that ROM we do a restore in CWM. Voila, we are exactly back to where we were. A NAND backup is also a must have in case unexpected things happen - like bootloops.
I always have two or three backups. One of them is the one with the best battery life and stability (a life boat), the other one is CM9 alpha (for when i'm bored), and the third one is the ROM i currently use. This way i can't mess things up. Ever.
Use titanium to backup your sms/mms, call logs and apps.
I know there are a lot of apps for back up/restoring, but does anyone know any working for ICS? I have tried AppExtractor with ROM Manager, didn't work. The Message-app started to behave strange. Tried SMS Backup & Restore, was able to restore the sms but couldn't not open them.
I'm currently using NovaHD's ICS Rom.
You can restore your messages from /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db and mmssms.db-journal in your nandroid backup (just extract and replace)
And your calls from /data/data/com.android.providers.contacts/database/contacts2.db and contacts2.db-journal
(Extract and replace)
Nandroid = CWM?
So, basically your saying that i should extract my backup and the rom, then find these folders extract the backup one to the rom and then zip it again?
Two options
#1 Restore your backup, copy the files to a temp folder on sdcard, flash your new rom and replace them
#2 Extract them from your backup and then replace them
It might be other solutions aswell but these are simple
Nandroid = CWM

just a small mention....file types from CM7 or Cm 9 are not the same with other GB formats....so are not comaptible....be careful with that.
HerrKuk, i'm kind of new to rooting but i need android sdk to do this?!
Sreeprajay, i'm goding from stock rom to custom, should work right?!

Nope, just root and and root explorer (or similar)
You dont even need a computer
Or use nandroid browser from the market : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.goddchen.android.nandroidbrowser

from the stock to custom, it will be prefect...just make sure once you are rooted, backup your msgs and call logs by either apps or by backing the ROM totally....
Hope it helps
So, i installed root explorer, copied mmssms.db(no journal-file), flashed owain's rom, installed root explorer, replaced my mmssms.db file in the rom, rebooted and the SMS-client won't start.
Optimus, maybe this will help you:
This is "backup to gmail"
I have got this aplication (paid) but it`s works on ICS (owain 29)
Take a look on my screenshot.
sms backup & restore works perfectly for me, but no idea on that phone call log
Albatros2605, MoFosis, Thanks for your help guys, but managed to restore my SMS by using SMS Backup+, which copies everything to your gmail and then downloads it to restore the SMS.
Hi guys, I recently screwed the pooch on an upgrade to 4.0.4, and I forgot to backup SMS before doing it. I did a nandroid backup, but I can neither restore the backup nor locate the mmssms.db file in the archive. I tried AppExtractor and Titanium Backup, but with no success.
Can someone help me by telling me where to locate my SMS history in a nandroid backup? Thanks!
when I make a backup cwm recovery says "cant mount backup path"
I tried to go down and mount all the drives but still not working
is that nandroid backup so important ? or I can flash my rom from cm9 build 15 to the nightly without backup ??
You dont have to do a backup. It is recommended because it saves your whole system at a time where it was working or where it could boot up to your home screen.
If something goes wrong when you try flash then this backup would obviously restore everything back to how it was, provided you can go back to recovery. If you cant then flash any rom with and go to recovery and restore after...
Thanks that helped but is there a way to fix that issue I discused or I have to use another backup tool like titanium I think or any other ??

This is probably a problem with the recovery, it was probably a bug on the rom itself. If I'm right you won't be able to fix this yourself without flashing the next update or another rom.

Without backup yes, without wipe i don't know, you will need to read the thread on the nightly and possibly ask in the thread.

If you are talking about apps and app data. It's best not to do this especially with system apps as this can cause conflicts. However if you want to and wish to try it then i use the following apps.
Sms backup and restore - From saving all my sms messages (Obviously )
App list backup - To get a list of all the apps installed. It will save the market links to the apps that you downloaded from the market. (This is not necessary if you trust the rom/google to download all your apps automatically)
Titanium backup - For saving back ups of both app and data. Allows you to restore the app + data or each individually. You will be able to use this to restore game data which doesn't usually cause any problems.
Wow that.was a perfect answer
Thanks man that really helped and it was all good news
I flashed the nightly cm9 over the build 15 and every thing worked fine no wipe accured
I haven't tried the backup on this rom yet but when I try I.will post the result
Thanks again
I want to know how to make a data backup so I won't have to restore all the apps and the contacts after flashing new ROMs which requires data wipe..I tried searching before posting this..but I didn't understand anything

if there is a rom where a fullwipe is needed, then you will get many fc's if you
restore a nandroid data.
but i'll give you the answer:
make a simple backup in cwm and go to advanced restore, there you can choose data

one of the easy way but still you can also try use ultimate backup from market, free and just use it to backup all aplications that you are installing/using on one rom, and when you flash another rom, just use it to reinstall them. The free version all you need to do is confirm manually all installs
How to perform a complete backup for ROM changes:
(0. Root your system if you are on stock Samsung firmware)
1. Backup your apps and their data with TitaniumBackup (click "Backup/Restore", click checkmark icon in upper right corner, select "Backup all user apps"). Do not backup system apps/data unless you have a good reason.
2. Backup your SMS with SMS Backup & Restore
3. Backup your call logs with Call log Backup & Restore.
4. Export your contacts to a .vcf file or sync them to your google account.
Your internal and external SD cards will not be touched when flashing ROMs so they do not require backup.
I need help,is there a way to recovery only contacts (vcf files) from philz backup (philz kernel)?
No. The nandroid backup can't take such back ups for just contacts.

Well....
There isn't any way that I know of....Maybe there isn't any
But I kinda understand the situation you're in (faced myself a lot of times ), so here's a lengthy solution to help you get back those contacts!
If you are still ON PHILZ kernel
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Backup the current ROM
2. Restore the previous ROM
3. Install super backup from playstore
4. Backup whatever you want (apps, messages, contacts, calendar, etc...)
5. Copy them to some safe location (so that you don't wipe 'em off ) like your microSD card
6. Restore the backup you made in step 1
7. Install Super Backup once again in the current ROM
8. Restore your contacts! (and other data if you wish!) using super backup's restore option
If you are still NOT ON PHILZ kernel
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Backup the current ROM
2. Flash the Philz kernel
3. Restore the previous ROM
4. Install super backup from playstore
5. Backup whatever you want (apps, messages, contacts, calendar, etc...)
6. Copy them to some safe location (so that you don't wipe 'em off ) like your microSD card
7. Flash the kernel which came with the ROM you backed up in step 1
8. Restore the backup you made in step 1
9. Install Super Backup once again in the current ROM
10. Restore your contacts! (and other data if you wish!) using super backup's restore option
And NEVER forget to backup stuff like these before flashing ROMs!
Its great to experiment, but a little caution and backups help you NOT nauseate if you "beep"-up!
