I need help,is there a way to recovery only contacts (vcf files) from philz backup (philz kernel)?

No. The nandroid backup can't take such back ups for just contacts.

Well....
There isn't any way that I know of....Maybe there isn't any
But I kinda understand the situation you're in (faced myself a lot of times ), so here's a lengthy solution to help you get back those contacts!
If you are still ON PHILZ kernel
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Backup the current ROM
2. Restore the previous ROM
3. Install super backup from playstore
4. Backup whatever you want (apps, messages, contacts, calendar, etc...)
5. Copy them to some safe location (so that you don't wipe 'em off ) like your microSD card
6. Restore the backup you made in step 1
7. Install Super Backup once again in the current ROM
8. Restore your contacts! (and other data if you wish!) using super backup's restore option
If you are still NOT ON PHILZ kernel
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Backup the current ROM
2. Flash the Philz kernel
3. Restore the previous ROM
4. Install super backup from playstore
5. Backup whatever you want (apps, messages, contacts, calendar, etc...)
6. Copy them to some safe location (so that you don't wipe 'em off ) like your microSD card
7. Flash the kernel which came with the ROM you backed up in step 1
8. Restore the backup you made in step 1
9. Install Super Backup once again in the current ROM
10. Restore your contacts! (and other data if you wish!) using super backup's restore option
And NEVER forget to backup stuff like these before flashing ROMs!
Its great to experiment, but a little caution and backups help you NOT nauseate if you "beep"-up!

[Idea] cwm backup to output rom.zip..??

would it be possible to add the option to CWM to backup into a rom.zip instead of nandroid backup?.... this would be awesome....
backup your rom with system and user apps and data into a wiping rom.zip... quick flashing back and fourth and easy rom creation.... (watch out for accidentally sharing personal info... though)

[Q] How to Backup "Properly"?

Hi Xda Members
I have a little problem!
I just love the variety of ROM and Kernel's that i can choose
But i haven't found how to properly backup:
SMS
MMS
Apps
Rest of my data
So i can use it every time i flash a new ROM
"What happen was:
- That i am now stuck with Rocket Rom V21,
- And i want to pass to DarkyRom 3.3,
- But i don't want to lose all my apps and stuff.
- How can i save all that and load it again after flash a new ROM."
Thanks
PS: Sorry for my ignorance but i have found so many but i haven't found one that i know who to use it.

Option 1: Use Nandroid backup (Root)
Option 2: Use Titanium Backup (Root) for Apps and stuffs. and for SMS/MMS backup there any many Apps available in Market.
i use mybackup root, if you are not rooted there is a version on the market
download app back up and restore[infolife] for apps and netqin sync for contacts both are free and very simple and both back ups ur data on your sd memory
enjoy

Do a Nandroid Backup in CWM recovery. it wont ask anything.

But doesn't it restore the kernel and System?
If you do a NAND backup you are backing up the entire OS. So if you restore it, it will be restored to the state you left it in before making the backup. All SMS, apps, call log, everything will be like you left it, including the kernel.
THIS is what you're looking for, and this is what we do before we flash ROM's, so when we want to go back to that ROM we do a restore in CWM. Voila, we are exactly back to where we were. A NAND backup is also a must have in case unexpected things happen - like bootloops.
I always have two or three backups. One of them is the one with the best battery life and stability (a life boat), the other one is CM9 alpha (for when i'm bored), and the third one is the ROM i currently use. This way i can't mess things up. Ever.
Use titanium to backup your sms/mms, call logs and apps.

if there is a rom where a fullwipe is needed, then you will get many fc's if you
restore a nandroid data.
but i'll give you the answer:
make a simple backup in cwm and go to advanced restore, there you can choose data

one of the easy way but still you can also try use ultimate backup from market, free and just use it to backup all aplications that you are installing/using on one rom, and when you flash another rom, just use it to reinstall them. The free version all you need to do is confirm manually all installs
How to perform a complete backup for ROM changes:
(0. Root your system if you are on stock Samsung firmware)
1. Backup your apps and their data with TitaniumBackup (click "Backup/Restore", click checkmark icon in upper right corner, select "Backup all user apps"). Do not backup system apps/data unless you have a good reason.
2. Backup your SMS with SMS Backup & Restore
3. Backup your call logs with Call log Backup & Restore.
4. Export your contacts to a .vcf file or sync them to your google account.
Your internal and external SD cards will not be touched when flashing ROMs so they do not require backup.

Flash Kernel or not?

Hi,
I'd like to root my friend's Samsung Galaxy S Plus and install CM9, because he's always complaining about how much trouble he has with his stock ROM.
Now when I install a new version of CM on my own phone (Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro, currently with CM10) I have to extract the boot.img file and flash this first, then go into recovery (the recovery which is included in the boot.img file) and flash the ROM that goes with this boot file.
Is this also necessary on a Samsung? Cause I heard that you just have to install the .zip from sd with these phones, and the boot file will be automatically included..
Grtz!
Just flash the zip and ur good
Btw, heres a good tutorial: http://www.android.gs/update-samsung-galaxy-s-i9001-plus-to-cm9-ics-custom-rom/

Yeah what he said. just flash the zip but make sure its in the ROOT of your mates INTERNAL sd card.
Cool, thanks! And that tutorial is the best I've seen so far so thanks again .
Another question, in all the tutorials I read "To backup applications, SMS, Call Logs and the APN Internet Settings use the following tools: AppBAK for Android apps backup | SMS backup & restore | Call Logs backup & restore | APN Settings Backup & Restore." but My Backup Root does all this (and it's only one app), so isn't My Backup the best option?

No prob. I dont know anything about those backup apps, i only use Titanium Backup to backup my apps+data and it works good
But i think MyBackup is cool if it does all that, have to try it out sometime
Yes, My Backup Root is awesome!

Help restoring contacts

I need some help restoring my contacts. I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 Active i9295.
Here’s how I lost my contacts:
I decided to root my phone and try some custom ROM’s. So I found this forum thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2649691.
1. I installed CWM via ODIN
2. Installed root via CWM
3. Installed “Online Nandroid” app and made a backup of my system, I put it on my SD card and copied it to my PC.
4. I wiped data, cache, dalvik. And flashed RR Rom via CWM.
5. Rebooted in to RR and found that all my contacts are gone.
For some reason they were not saved in my google account.
After that I tried to restore my contacts by various methods:
1. Restore backup in google contacts. Even 30 days back it is empty.
2. Restore the nandroid backup I made in the beginning. No luck, I get an error when restoring data. As I read somewhere afterwards CWM cannot handle backups above 2 gb. My data file is 4,5 gb.
3. I tried replacing the contacts database files from the nandroid backup manually in com.android.providers.contacts. Nothing happened.
4. I tried the method to convert the contacts DB file in to Vcard file in linux. No success.
5. I tried using “APP Extractor” to restore contacts. No contacts restored. But I start to get an error “The process android.process.acore has stopped working.”
At this point I am out of ideas. I can see the individual contacts via Nandroid Manager app, but no way of restoring them except doing it manually one by one.
