Note charging module - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My charging port is broken and rather than desoldering the old port and fitting a new one I've decided to just replace the module. Does anyone know if the i717 and n7000 modules are identical or at least compatible?

I was just going through this problem myself. I have no idea why, but the color of your GN (Galaxy Note) matters! So I am sure that the difference in the N7000 and the i717 will be a huge problem. For instance, I have a white GN that wouldn't charge. I found and I ordered a charging port flex cable assembly. Now, mind you, the only problem with my phone was that it wouldn't charge. After installing the new charging port flex cable assembly, I could charge, BUT I didn't get any (and I mean zero) connectivity to the AT&T cellular network.
After hours and hours of assembling, un-assembling, seating cables, un-seating cables, scouring the net for any possible reason why this damn thing wouldn't work....I came across a post here on xda. In the thread, it mentioned that there is a DIFFERENCE between the charging flex cable assembly for a WHITE GN and a BLACK GN. Who in the world would have thought that the identical phone, other than the color, would have made that much of a difference?! That is why it never occurred to me to check that.
Unfortunately, the only seller that I have found, (for the WHITE GN) has been listed on back order since Feb of 2011.
So I am doing the next best thing....I have an external battery charger to charge my batteries, then swap them out when one goes dead. I'll do that until I can find the right charging port flex cable assembly that is going to work.
Hope this helps! I just didn't want you to go through what I have went through!

[Q] Galaxy note charging issue - replaced charging port but still not fixed. help

Hi All,
I have read other threads and can not find answer so that is why i am creating this thread.
basic things to know...
1. Got my Galaxy Note (GN) off ebay. It came with the following major issue: "cannot be charged via laptop's usb port or wall socket"
2. GN does not have a custom rom. It is unlocked to any network. So, i am assuming it has a "stock rom". can someone tell me how to verify that?
3. I looked into various threads and ultimately decided to replace my usb charging port.
4. I should mention that before any replacement of parts whatsoever, i could see my device on windows and transfer files etc. via usb connection.
5. before and after replacement, it says its "charging" but nothing gets charged. If anything the battery level goes down. This suggests to me that there is an issue with charging circuitry somewhere? anyone can shed light on it?
6. Currently i am using an external charger to charge up my battery. Battery is fine as it gets charged up, just fine.
7. What other options do i have to find out the solution to my charging issues. Anything i can do to narrow down the issue further?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Ebay is your best friend. You can change the charging usb port for less than 10 dollars. I bought mine from chinese supplier. The board cost me less than 9 dollars, shipped. It came within 2 weeks. You must open up your phone (8 tiny screws- see youtube video on how to open up n7000). The board comes out easily. You must check the revision on the usb port. Mine is 1.0. It also comes in 0.0, 0.8 and 2.0. I got the exact one with matching colors as the original part. I saw the same board in different revisions and with different colored boards. I got the same exact one, looking at the ebay picture. I was able to change my board in less than 10 minutes. problem solved.

I have already changed the usb port and the problem persists.
How much of an issue will it be if the revision number do not match up with original one?
i dont have tools infront of me so i cant check whether there is a direct match or not.
thanks for reply.

I think matching the revision is important. you must have your original part to verify which was the original revision. I have seen on threads where the revision was not matched and the part didn't help solve the problem.

Check if U607 and R619 are good, they are on the main board.
Download service manual to identify those parts and first check for bad solder joint.
I hqve the same priblem but i didnt check the part numbers gunna have a look for them now. In all honesty i thought it wouldnt matter as they may have been all the exact same

Whoah, seriously? Seems kinda like overkill. What I've heard most is having to hold the cable in 'just' the right position for it to charge, which doesn' t sound like a mainboard issue, since the charge port is connected via a ribbon block (and an antenna cable).
What's odd is that the charge port board on mine has this problem, but it is ROCK SOLID and the connector blade inside is totally clean. Pushing the plug down towards the back of the phone would, based on the physical layout of the internal USB pins, if anything, REDUCE contact pressure. It seems like this is a non-permanent problem and I SWEAR I saw an amazon post somewhere where a guy describes a simple physical mod that suddenly lets all normal charges work fine. Just can't find it...
I have a Samsung Note 2, same thing...not charging through the port, battery is good, charger is good, changed the charge port circuit and nothing...re installed the operating system, it's unlocked, rooted..works fine as long as I charge the battery externally...I have no idea what to do or which direction to go...any help...and I'll keep everyone posted as to the results of any suggestions...goo part is...I know how to get the thing apart....Blessings, As Always...
Same here - changed micro usb board and still not charging
Hi
I have the same problem. Have samd=sung galaxy note N7000 and suddenly stopped charging.
I changed the micro-usb port - it is the same version as the one inside. The mobile is still not charging! :crying:
Has anyone found a solution to this ?
even stranger
Have just noticed that the mobile charges fine in the car with the charger that originally caused the problem.
However it will charge with nothing else - neither USB port of PC not directly to wall socket.
Could the car charger have set it to charge at a higher voltage?

Hi all,
Sorry to revive an ageing thread but this still seems to be an issue at large.
I have a question:
I am a little confused. After seeing a number of these charge port PCB's on Ebay, some sellers are saying only for Rev 0.8 and others say nothing at all, yet in ALL the images from numerous sellers, the PCB's have Rev 1.0 written on them including my own N7000's charge port PCB.
Please could someone enlighten me?
Many thanks!
changed usb port after charging probs
Hi there,
I am having the same damn problem. After having charging probs and a loose connection, I decided to buy a new usb port and everything should be fine again. After replacing the port i tried to charge before installing the back case part and everything worked! But after putting the phone back into the case it went back to the problem like before replacing the port. It is loose and i cant get a pc connection to work.
So after disassembling it several times and reading forum posts in several boards i found this thread which has not the answer for the problem but some suggestions what could cause the problem.
I think it is not worth it to change the Motherboard too but if someone could test it that would help I think.
In another board someone wrote he had 3 port boards bought and they were all dead on arrival. So i believe this could also be the problem what do you think? Did anyone try different replacement parts from different shops?
And is yours charging if you do not install the backplate/backcase?
where did you buy the port? and is it same revision that was in their.
I think a new cable (proper quality) fixes it
that or pc driver reinstall

Hello,
Got a similar problem. Samsung note 1 (n7000) wasn't charging the battery. Holding the mini usb down was the trick.
I bought a new charging port and replaced it. The thing....it is charging now...but giving me: Emergency calls only!
Send back that part and got it replaced.... Just installed it and again: Emergency calls only...
It does show that it has reception. It's not due to my carrier as sim in another phone is working ok. Replacing the old part solves the problem.
If anyone has an idea how to solve this problem.....PLEASE let me know.
Regards

is it same revision? connectors and touchpoints on same place?
try these:

Open up the phone again. and check the screws that hold down the usb port
the speaker is attached to the plastic cover on top of the usb port. it is not making contact with the right points.
try it whilst the phone is on, play a audio or video file and hold down that part with your fingers. u will see that it will work.
meaning that the screws are either loose or too tight and not properly aligned.

Hello,
Yes, I should have mentioned that. Same revision. Connectors seem to be in the same place.
Please check picture. The one above is the original and the one with the white sticker is the replacement part.
Thanks for your response!

Question about the Samsung Qi Charger

I kinda want to get a Qi charger, but I'm not sure whether I should go for the official Samsung one, or a cheaper one from a different brand. Is there anything special about the Samsung one?
No, nothing special, only the design.
Ah okay, good to know. I'll just get a different one then. Don't want to spend 30eu more just for design
Nothing special i have the older model and another brand model both work great
I Had an Aukey wireless charger and got a Samsung one free with my S6 and charging time is a bit different. I tested both chargers with the 0% to 100% charge time and the Aukey gave me 3h25 and the Samsung charger 2h55 minutes. There is a slight difference, also the Samsung has a LED strip around that changes color when charge is complete and since its larger, I don't have to move the phone around to get a signal...I found myself adjusting the phone a bit with the Aukey because the phone kept giving a connect/disconnect sound

Can someone confirm details on Note 5 and Wireless Base

I purchased the official Samsung Wireless base (white) and I have a Note 5 (white). Anyways the base didn't quite workout with the case I have on my Note 5. I returened the Samsung Wireless base, though I might have confused the Adapter and Cable. Anyways can someone confirm this for me please.
Does the Wireless base come with a normal Samung wall charger or Fast Charging?
Does the Note 5 come with a thin white USB cable or a thick white USB cable?
I was disappointed it didn't work and didn't pay too much attention on what charger and USB cable I got to repackage the Wireless Charger.
Thanks
It depends which wireless charging pad you purchased (although i don't think you could have purchased a fast charge pad yet because white is still showing as coming soon on their website).
In that case you probably bought the older style pad, which does not have a fast charging rate, and uses a normal wall adapter (not fast charging). I believe the cables are all thin...
Most likely your case is too thick to allow wireless charging, from what you say.
Ok thanks.
Actually it worked fine the first time, but then for some reason the other times it would charge for some minutes and then start blinking and disconnect. I tried it on and off, and it didn't make a difference. I said screw it, doesn't work fine, and don't want that happening at night without me noticing and then realizing in the morning it didn't charge.
I have Samsung chargers and cables stored everywhere, so I might have gotten the wrong cable for that Samsung Wireless Pad (the circular one with LED coloring). I think I confirmed the charger I kept is the Samsung Fast Charger and the thin USB cable that states 5.3v @ 2.0A and 9.0V @ 1.67 which I think is the original as the thicker one don't think would fit on the slot on the Note 5 box.
I think I sent them one that came with another Samsung phone, the one that says Verizon on the sticker tabs, hope they don't find out .

N910t "Unable to charge" message

Ok, I have been dealing with this issue and trouble shooting every which way but loose. I am getting this message every time I try to charge my phone. "Unable to charge your device, make sure you are using a samsung-compatable battery and charger, and that your device is properly connected to the charger." The device is almost 2 years old so it is out of warranty, I called samsung and sent it in at my own expense and they marked it "BER" (Beyond Economical repair) because I had rooted it, I didn't install my own rom I just simply tripped Knox so samsung refused to work on it. Very disappointing. I have now set out to fix it on my own.
OEM Battery: Check
OEM Charger: Check
Properly Plugged in: Check
I have tried multiple different fixes, factory reset didn't work, so I flashed Cyanogen 12.1, Rapture, and Dr. Keton ROMs to see if it was a software issue, NOPE. (P.S. Rapture is my favorite)
So I ordered a wireless charger so see if it was the charger port, NOPE.
Then I ordered a external battery charger and 2 other batteries so I could at least play around with it. SO I have determined it is not the Charger port, Software, or Bad Battery.
2 weeks Prior to this problem occurring the bluetooth flat out quit working. So I am now considering getting a new motherboard but this requires a lot of work I would rather not do if there are any other suggestion at this point I would love to hear them before I pull the trigger and buy a 150$ motherboard, If it honestly comes to that I might just sell the phone for parts, I bought an s7, but I loved my note 4. I would prefer to go back to it cause I like the battery life on the note 4 but LOVE the camera on the s7. Any way, Any Ideals would be fantastic, thanks.
I had an international note 3 that used to say that. I think you may have to use a power source for which that perticular phone was designed for.... just an idea... If i recall i could slowly charge it using a car charger but not a wall charger. I dont know why though i sold it on craigslist before i found the answer.
I also had a similar problem with a regular domestic note 3. Turns out my baby stuck my phone in her mouth and her spit corroded the terminals. So the phone just wouldnt charge. Was a pretty easy fix for like 10 bucks for a whole new charging port. Did you maybe drop your phone and dislocate the flex cable from your board? http://youtu.be/OYBWT1yfilc
Doesnt seem toooo difficult to fix but if it were me id just swap out batteries

Fulminant Screen Problem

A couple of days ago, my Mi 5 just started with funny lines, and after 3 minutes it just became unreadable.
It was very strange because it didn't feel down or got any hit.
After searching about other phones, everybody says that it is hardware problem and I must replace the screen, which I already bought it and I'm waiting for it.
Could this happened due to some software configuration?
Other user (@gowtham300) also said that the display could have burned out be due to the charger. I was charging the phone directly from an USB output of a Belkin Surge protector as the one attached... Could it be because of it???
Thank you for the support.
The best way to charge a phone is by its original charger and cable.

Other thread ok the plausible reasons are this
Mi5 metal is not very hard if you had a case that was very tight or one that digs in the corners it might be a reason for display wire dislocating
2- before the heat up did you feel the display heat up
3- another reason for this is 3000ma charging. Although quick charging 3 standard is 3000ma it's not a good value USB type c standard dictates only 2400mah and mi5 connectors or ports are not of the highest quality this leads to charger USB c cable ruining without any damage all of a sudden the cable wouldn't allow fast charge besides that the display cable is near the USB port on mi5 so when it heats up the display cable which is near also gets hot which might damage the cable resulting in this as to fix this issue miui included a charging fix since August 2017 mi5 will only charge at 2500ma till 20% or so then at 2200ma till 55% or so then 1900ma till 75% so on and so forth they limited charging speed in a way that won't prolong the charge time 1.5 hour for full charge. It is possible that maybe because of all this issues Samsung never used qc3 on their flagships HTC limited qc3 since beginning even on HTC 10 and 11 the market 40%, pixel 2 xl and use their own charging standards one plus also does the same
