I downloaded the Transformers movie so that it would be available offline. I have used up a whole load of memory in doing so. I would now like to back it up so that I can delete it from my Nexus and restore it when I want to use it. I have had a look through the /sdcard and can't find it anywhere. Does anyone know where it is stored so I can back it up?
Its in /sdcard/Andriod/data/com.google.android.videos - I believe.
I deleted it from there.

*snip* Nevermind.
I think you have to "clear data" on the Movies app. I'm not sure what happens if you do the above and delete the framework file - which is the encrypted DRM wrapper around the content, including Transformers and whatever else/cache it has downloaded...
You could just untick the save offline thing in the actual app to download it...
I unchecked the "save offline", available space did not change. Started checking folders to find it, then just rebooted, and the available space opened up.

Yes, I purchased the 16GB version from Staples Canada (still waiting for GP to even process my order from June 28th). Yes, as soon as I registered the device I received $25 GP credit and had access to the free movie.

im downloading it just to see if looks better than it does when its being streamed because im not all that impressed by the streaming quality
It took me about 1.5 hours to download it.. It took forever, probably throttling on Google's cloud side..
It seems like if you click on the push pin it'll download it too.
One thing I wanna know... let's say you download the movie to your tablet and then delete it, can we re download it again? It stays on the cloud forever right ?

Why would there be movies? That is only for HC, right now. Seems better in landscape for me, then portrait tbh.
Also, install instructions like that are unneeded. Just move the vending.apk to your sdcard and install with a file manager. It will just update like normal.

How are they preventing Playback on Rooted devices? Is there some way it detects that we're rooted or something? If it simply tries running a Command via SU, couldn't we block that? I'm trying to think of otherways that it could detect Root but all the ones I can think of I think we could workaround. What are they doing to accomplish this?

I am looking to buy a Nexus 7 as an e-Reader for a relative who is not skilled in the slightest with Android or any technology really. Is it possible to set the tab, or any Android device for that matter, to bring the Kindle app up as soon as the device starts?

Sorry for the typo in the title. Any ideas on this issue?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
Not that I know off.
It would be best to remove all home screens apart from 1, then put the icon on it. Maybe put a big clock on there as well to fill up the space
Its a shame that the kindle app doesn't have a widget that you could stretch to fit full screen.
Oh the ignomy...
You can certainly make the Kindle app an ICon on the front page, and remove the ICons that you don't want - but I think you are doing your relative a disservice if you box them in to just the Kindle app.
Heck, get them a kindle if that is all they want.
But once they find Facebook keeps up with all their friends and relatives, there will be no holding them back.
I do not want the app to be locked. Just start with device and then they can exit to rest of OS.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
But will they be comfortable with the rest of the OS? If it's to be primarily an ereader it seems that the Fire would be their best bet. They can still branch out some, but they have the familiarity of Amazon's ecosystem. IMHO
This is the app you need:

I've found a solution. But, since my relative won't remember to close apps running in the background, is there a task manager app which will only let one app run at a time? So, when you open the Kindle App for example, it closes the Google books app running in the background?
You don't close apps on android, the OS does that as it needs to - it's much better that way since it means if you frequently use the same few apps they'll appear instantly. 'Closing' is a desktop PC thing (and even that's going away with Windows 8).
Does anyone know of some apps which allow me to add some plain text to the home screens? I want to put a text widget saying "Books" and under that add all the e-reading apps for my relative. Also, are there any apps which will allow for easier use of the device with one hand?

The Kindle is limited to merely the Amazon book store, unless I am mistaken. With the Nexus 7, books can be purchased from a variety of stores such as Kobo, Google or Amazon (whichever one is cheaper). Also, it can then be used for some basic media such as BBC iPlayer.
Looking for a list of non-manufacturer-specific apps available in the Google Play store that won't install/run on the Google Nexus 7.
e.g. "Bank of America for Tablet" app.
Why would this app not work on the Nexus 7?

Gotta wonder what it is about this Android app that makes it work on a Google TV (running Android) and not a Nexus 7 tablet.
I've seen Amazon Instant Video working via a PS3 (non Android) on a non-Google TV. Too bad there isn't a Google Nexus 7 compatible app in the Google Play Store to do the same thing.
In time, Amazon will learn to do it the Netflix way, and it might actually work on the Nexus 7.
Have you read the user comments on the Play Store for this app?

I was hoping to be able to stream my torrent movies (mkv, avi...etc..) from my home PC. I was hoping VLC would have some type of plug in that would allow casting.

I just got mine today and have been doing some research...you can tab cast videos depending on the format (AVI does not work, but most others do). I was able to play a .mp4 version of a TV show perfectly (either drop the file into the tab or right click "open with" chrome...you will know the format isn't support if it saves the file instead of playing it). I would also imagine that a lot more apps will add casting soon.
As for pictures, one of the devs is working on a dropbox casting mod now...supposed to be available very shortly.

Thanks for the prompt response. I did look at a few threads but my head was spinning fro the pages of questions within questions. I really am only interested in streaming movies from my Computer and showing photos.
I did see that Koush is working into CM that anything can cast through that rom. I wont be flashing that on my Note 2, but I would on my Nexus 10 and New Nexus 7.
Ill try to keep up with the threads in the meantime.
I saw that about CM ..don't think I can pull the trigger and flash that on my note 2 either though. Give the tab casting a shot...hopefully that will work for you until VLC or one of nth another major video players adds casting.

I can confirm that flash is working on my nexus 5 when using the paid version of puffin web browser (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cloudmosa.puffin&hl=en), I dont know about the free version, I believe it has a trial to it. Puffin is a cloud browser. You're not technically running flash, its just that Puffin's servers are streaming it to you. IMHO, the quality isn't the same.
I too can't get flash to work on N5, but works on my N4, N7, N10, & G2. Probably not going to update those to Kit Kat if flash don't work.
I've been watching live sports via flash streams using the Photon Browser. It's a little quirky and has a lot of ads, but it gets the job done.

Looks like KitKat completely broke flash.

There must be a fix, Flash was one of the reasons I went with android to begin with. Being able to play flash content when you need it is essential!

Agreed!
Has anyone tried installing Flash and Dolphin Browser and then deleted the preferences file for Dolphin? That's the fix I used on my Nexus 4 and has worked forever since. For some reason my N4 now seems to have lost root so can't get into the data folder to see where the file is exactly. I'll have a go tonight once I have my N5 and rooted it.
No idea what's going on with my N4, think it's feeling replacement depression and rebelling against me haha!
Try Puffin, a cloud rendering browser, here's the trial version:
