Friendcaster pro and Facebook help. - Galaxy Tab 7.7 Themes and Apps

I am running both Friendcaster pro and Facebook because I have issues with both. Basically friendcaster shows some of my friends posts and Facebook shows other posts, neither shows all my friends posts. I can't for the life of me figure out why this is happening, settings maybe? This very annoying that I have to run both apps in order to see all posts. Another issue I have is that I try to run facebooks widget on CM9 but I can not scroll through the widget. Any suggestions on these issues or recommendations on another Facebook app where all post show up. Thank you.

It's an app issue. Friendcaster has been becoming less stable over time
Sent from my Galaxy S too!

There are two main causes of this.
First, it is possible that some of your friends have set their privacy settings to block access to their profile, wall, photos and status updates from third party apps like FriendCaster.
If you go to your Facebook account and select Account -> Privacy Settings -> Ads, Apps and Websites and click “Edit Your Settings” and check “Apps You Use” you’ll see an item entitled “How people bring your info to apps they use” you can see checkboxes for the items that are available to apps. As an example, If your friend has “My photos” unchecked here, they won’t appear in FriendCaster. If “Platform Apps” are turned off here, the account will be completely invisible to 3rd party apps like FriendCaster.
Unfortunately Facebook has this restriction in place and unless your friend allows third party apps we can't get around it at this time. If your friends are using that setting, the info will only appear on Facebook itself.
In addition, the Graph API that Facebook provides for us to provide information to your FriendCaster app doesn't provide Top News or Most Recent exactly as on Facebook, it's actually it's own feed that's probably most similar to most recent, but not exactly the same. So some posts may not be in the same order or may not appear at the same time.

It's more than friend permissions...

Facebook says that Friendcaster has not even attempted to access my friend's photos and videos since July 31. NONE of them.
I promise, my wife and children are allowing me to see. But Friendcaster is not attempting to access.

Facebook update

Anyone done it yet? I did noticed it says can sync contacts now but also it slowed my phone down alot. Alot of app lag since update.
Anyone else?

Now that I updated, I have 2 facebook accounts in my accounts tab in settings.
Also, I can use the app, but when I click things it just takes me to the mobile facebook page in the browser. I can do that on my own!
I clicked don't sync as i feared that would happen. I did read on the sync page that u can at anytime change ur setting for sync.
Also read the engadget review comments and seen that most will just bring u to the browser. Pointless update to me.
Does ur.phone at the same as before.

Facebook still hasn't implemented global notifications, which makes this update completely worthless. The UI update is nice, but I'd rather have functionality at this point (coming from a Blackberry that is archaic compared to media usage.. I find this a bit ironic).
The sync feature is hit and miss as well. You will find two options in your sync options for FB now. One of them, even if left off, is a placeholder for your log in information for the app. Turning the sync on will just load another set of linked contacts, most likely slowing down Samsung's OS even more. I checked it out and then removed all of the links by turning it off (nice touch, FB). The feature will be nice for people who load a stock 2.2 ROM on their phone (when available).
useless and horrible update, read the thread about it:
http://androidforums.com/android-applications/141091-facebook-ver-1-3-now-out-3.html
I updated before I read this thread and now facebook is killing my battery.

But what about the contact sync issue?
I had mine to sync every 2 hours. Each time it would sync'd, it added another link to the contact. So, after 6 hours, I had 3 more links to my contacts that had Facebook.
I turned the sync off in the Facebook app, and used the sync with the phone. I have a Captivate and for some reason it has two different Facebook options in the account sync settings which do different things.
FB for android is horrible... man, I thought FB for Blackberry was bad.
Has anyone else noticed that on the News Feed it doesn't even show 1/3 of the posts? Also, why does it take you to your browser when you click on any link to a notification or comment in the app?
I ended up turning on SMS notifications for facebook because the Android FB UI is garbage
not only that, it synced my contacts so many times i had 8-10 seperate listings in my contact list for everyone in my phonebook that has facebook.
so i removed that using Titanium and im good to go.
Does FB synchronize photos for you guys? I'm talking to friends with other androids and they say it does... not so for me. Wondering if its the Captivate or my settings.
Also, when you click on "View Profile" when looking at a contact does it take you to their profile or yours? When I click it it takes me to my profile instead of the person's.

[Q] Adding Facebook Account

Has anyone been able to add their facebook account by going to settings-accounts-facebook?
I installed the facebook app off the market, but when i went under settings it didn't give me the option to sync friends to contacts like it did on my droid.
So went to accounts, add facebook, entered my email, and password, but it wouldn't sign in
Kept giving me a server error, then about every third time it gives an error that says that something is wrong with the device clock and to contact the administrator.
Tried uninstalling the app to see if it was causing problems, but no luck. Anyone been able to sync facebook friends with contacts (its
mainly to get contact pics off facebook)
Thanks
Edit: Finally got it to work. Only took over a week
When you install Facebook, under the "My Accounts" app, you'll see two entries for Facebook. One is actually for your Facebook app, and one is for Moto's "Social Networking" app. Using the Moto-branded version may offer you additional features.
I've noticed a couple places where you get shafted by Moto software for not using their built-ins. Like the Car Dock front page only links to the Moto Music Player... which has no music because I stream from Google Music.
I believe since OS 2.3 (Gingerbread), the facebook sync with accounts option has been removed from Android.
Easy method, download (free) SyncMyPix from the Market, it will sync facebook pics with matching accounts on your phone into your actual Google Contacts.
I run it once and don't let it do it automatically, just run it whenever I add new contacts.
The sync facebook accounts worked fine on my original droid, its running cyangenmod 7 2.3.3. Thats why it was driving me nuts, could just set the sync settings from the facebook app. Figured it was some moto thing, but didn't know if it was specific to my phone or not.
Thanks

Thanks for the SyncMyPix suggestion!
Looks like the facebook app has removed the settings for syncing contacts. Tried using the Verizon "MyAccounts" app but definitely a little screwy.
fb contacts synced with no problems for me. I used the "social networking" app in the app drawer and entered in my fb info. contacts now have either gmail or fb photo as their contact photo.
I used one of the two in the My Accounts app, contacts synced just fine.
I don't love that when you sync with face book your gallery becomes less about you, and turns into a fb gallery...wish you could turn only that feature off...

FriendStream style widget

Anyone know of a quality social stream widget application? I used to use launcher pro's friends widget but now running ICS roms, I miss it.. anyway, any suggestions?

You could try my app, Sonet. It supports Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, Buzz, LinkedIn, Foursquare, Google+ (read only), RSS, and SMS. It's scrollable on Honeycomb and ICS and very customizable. I welcome any suggestions or feature requests.

Your widget is really great! Its replacing wizz on my home screen
The scrolling is really smooth!
The pop up dialog when I click on a fb status or a tweet doesn't seem to be the way to do it, its slow and doesn't feel as seamless as the rest of this widget is. Most other friendstream clone widgets do this with a full screen view, but maybe a better looking pop up is the answer. Something like the ICS power dialog might work if there aren't a ton of comments. Speaking of comments, its probably not necessary to have "0 comments" at the bottom of every post in the stream, but that's just a polish thing.
Is there a thread where its more appropriate to dump UX ideas on you and your app? You've got the potential for a must have ICS app!

Thank you! I'm not sure if this is the right place to discuss UX ideas, but I definitely want to hear them! Issues can be logged on the github site, https://github.com/piusvelte/sonet-pro/issues, so that's an option. Honestly, I often just get emailed feature requests, piusvelte at gmail dot com, so that's another option. I want to discuss the pop-up function, as it attempts to do a lot, but I don't know a better way to handle that. What is the ICS power dialog? I don't know that I've seen it. Thanks again!

When you tap on your widget, and go to Accounts and Settings, you'll see your Facebook account displayed. Does it say that it's enabled or disabled for that widget? Also, are any other account posts displaying? Have you tried manually updating the widget by tapping on the widget and selecting "Update"? Thank you for trying my app!
It shows as Enabled, but when I hit update it only updates the twitter posts and doesn't show any new FB ones. But it also said "no new posts" when I first added facebook to the widget.

This is odd. Do you have any particular Facebook permissions set which might block the Sonet app? Can you tap on your Facebook account and see what the number of statuses to show is set as under settings? Could you try disabling Twitter to try just updating Facebook? Thanks for your patience with this!
I just tried and there shouldn't be any permissions blocking Sonet from synching, but the second i deactive twitter and click update Sonet just shows "No posts" or "no new posts"

Hmm. This is the first that I've heard of this happening. Can you load the facebook.com site in your browser while connected to the same network from which you're trying to load posts? Could you please install "Log Collector" from the Play Market and send me a log shortly after attempting to "Update" the widget? Thank you!
You want a log from just when your widget is connecting to FB, or from both your app and the browser?

Just for updating the widget, please and thank you!
Facebook in the browser works fine. the official Facebook widget works fine. But I will grab a log of my phone jsut as it updates Sonet on FB.
---------- Post added at 06:34 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:24 PM ----------
The log I have grabbed doesn't seem right cause there is no mention of Sonet etc inside it. When I do leave facebook as the only active part it does say "Updating Content" but then changes to "No New Posts" after a short while.
Can it be that because I have the facebook app, and thus the widget that it is "clearing" the new tag meaning that Sonet wont download them?

Any way to prevent Google Dashboard from logging everything online?

If one was to use the Samsung Note it seems that Google Dashboard would have a copy of all contacts, locations visited, locations searched,Youtube videos watched etc.. Is there a way to prevent all that from happening and from any record being left online with Google's Google Dashboard? This is pretty much the same thing almost as that Carrier IQ.
Bump.. Anyone
I also would like to know that. ..

I am not really sure if I understood your question completely ... but I try
Did you try to disable syncing in the settings? (privacy, accounts)
If you do not want your calendar to sync, disable the use of Google calendar, or use an app that doesn't try to sync with your Google account in the first place.
In my country I also saw the possibility to uncheck tracking on the Google page, again under "settings". Google.com has this too. I think Google will remember this in a cookie, therefore if you delete cookies regularly there's no point adapting the settings ...

FB Messenger Alternative

I honestly made the best decision ever of removing the Facebook app from my phone, with it installed, my phone would drain 20% of battery overnight even with greenify. With it removed, I lost only 5% battery, couldn't be happier.
However, with that said, I use the alternative client Swipe, I really like it for normal browsing, but not the Messenger feature. I still have the FB Messenger app due to its calling, emoji, sticker, etc features, but man is it a resource hog. According to the wake lock detector, it woke my device 58 times.
Do any of you know of any other client alternative to the current messenger app with a better theme than the one in Swipe with the same features as current FB Messenger app. Not too fond of Swipe's messenger as it just loads the mobile site version, its features are limited.
If not, do any of you know how to restrict the app properly to not wake my device so often? Greenify seems to have no effect
Trillian will work with your facebook account. Last time I used it, which was about a year ago, the interface wasn't the best to look at but got the job done. It handles other messaging protocols such as Skype, but doesn't work with Whatsapp (naturally).
I was gonna suggest a all in one like trillian and someone on these boards made a facebook messenger and twitter all in one app tho i forget the name. I never go on facebook but I leave it installed but it never takes like any battery, tho I turned off all notifications and turned off chat in the main app and turned off auto load video etc. No issues tho but not many options for third party messenger apps but search forums for the all in one i mentioned.
Possibly IM+? I used this way back in the day with earlier versions of Android, might do the trick! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.shapeservices.impluslite
If I remember correctly you can also use Disa with the facebook plugin. that way you have SMS and facebook in the same app
