Yeah, there are some backwards in ICS. But why do you want to downgrade exactly? Maybe there is a better solution for your problem.

Ok guys,
I've scoured the forums, I've found a number of methods to use but the most up to date one states that even it is out of date and there are easier ways to do this.
I have an HTC Incredible S running Android 2.3.3 (yeah, I know).
Someone post me a link to what they believe is the best method for S-OFF and ROOTING.
Many thanks!

So no way to S-OFF HBOOT 1.16? The second link makes it seem plausible...
Any thoughts?
1.16 must have a custom Rom flashed to obtain root.
in other words follow the newbs guide to root hboot 1.16 exactly and you won't have any problems however you will not be able to stay stock.

That's fine with me. I definitely want to flash a different ROM so it's no issue if I cannot use the STOCK ROM any longer.
What ROM would you guys recommend I use? People seem to be using Cyanogen more than anything else with this device.
Opinions?
Thanks!
PAinguIN
I used alpharevx and its been great. I like that you can still go back to s-on if something goes wrong and you need warranty
I updated my Incredible S, not knowing that it would change my HBOOT version. I was on stock 1.16.0000 for ages, until I found this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1373697
I was able to create a goldcard and downgrade to a s-off-able HBOOT version and s-off using revolutionary.io
These guides should help with revolutionary and flashing a new ROM
http://theunlockr.com/2011/08/02/ho...-android-phone-using-the-revolutionary-method
http://theunlockr.com/2011/08/02/ho...d-device-after-using-the-revolutionary-method
Now I have S-off and root and I'm running Virtuous affinity 1.48
I would recommend downgrading because using the HTCdev method doesn't give you full access to flashing things

FFS use the search button and do just a little bit of reading before asking questions like this.... Every forum I've been on has a tutorial on how to do just about anything you want to that particular phone. If you'd have looked you would have found the answer without having to post a new thread in the 'development section' and like anonymous_1997 said this is the development section, what has your post got to do with development.
Learn to post in the right section and learn to read the current threads because the answers are in there... what you have done is just plain lazy
sorry
i really did searched and i found there are root tutorial but seems no 4.0.3 case.
i afraid it'd be different to root in 4.0.3.
so sorry about this

Ics root is the most easy.. if you on 1.28 hboot.. just go to unlimited.io and flash recovery from there.. reboot to recovery.. and flash root zip from 3 musketeer thread.. or just go to chainfire website.. and it done..

The HTC Incredible S is not going to get official Jellybean from HTC. The only way to get Jellybean is through flashing a custom ROM but it will NOT have Sense (unless someone is going to port a jellybean release from HTC with Sense.
I made a guide on how flash custom ROMs and achieving S-OFF which is right in my sig. Just click the link, read once and make sure you understand, then just follow the guide.

true.. HTC will not be officially releasing updates post ICS.. but if you want to install custom Jelly Bean ROMS (there are a plenty), then download the ROMs from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1136463
follow the below link for rooting your phone and installing custom ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1337105
hope it helps..
Hi dude, what you need is CUSTOM ROMs for sure! But few JB ROMs have sense working bugless now, personally I like HTC sense very much so I'm not going to upgrade to JB recently.

You are correct, there are no ROMs running Sense and Jellybean for the incredible S. Personally, AOSP is much better and fluid in performance

Go through each and every step thoroughly in this thread and understand each and everything first before you try to take any step with rooting your phone.
