Are the CM9 and AOKP builds forked from the same code? I was using AOKP but I had to go back to the leak because of random restarts and hard-keyboard issues. Does CM9 share the same issues?
I also want to say thanks very much to the devs. I love and greatly appreciate all the work you put into this device!

Hashcode is maintaining both ports and they definitely both run on the same kernel, what with how Safestrap works.
I don't know how different the low level stuff is but given that they both come out at the same time it seems likely that he is maintaining the same low level stuff and just attaching the appropriate framework on top.
It's certainly true that my voice call issues affect both ROMs, but not the leak or olegfusion's cleaned up version of the leak.

I know we have some wonderful progress with CM9 and AOKP builds of Android 4.0, but is it possible for someone to build CM 7.1 for the Droid 4? Considering all the drivers seem stable enough on ICS, and most of what I was running in to as problems seemed related to CM9, not hardware, and I have heard of a front-facing-camera fix, it would seem this should not be too difficult if one actually knows what they're doing. (I am afraid I don't. )
I would really prefer to run CM 7.1 to stock; it would be great to have this for a few months until CM9 or AOKP are stable enough for every-day use.
i dont think it is really worth anybody's time getting CM7 going on this phone... the future is ICS/CM9 and everybody wants ICS/CM9 because it simply is better.
are there bugs in the CM9 we have right now? yup, its a beta and you have to expect it. i would rather the few devs we have working on this phone to get us a flawless CM9 than push out an equally buggy CM7 which brings me to my next point... what makes you assume that a CM7 build for the D4 would be flawless?
tldr; No.
All the bugs I encountered were CM related or Android 4 related. Camera drivers for Gingerbread are well supported, as is the Radio. Missing menu entries or incomplete implementation is purely CM 9. Essentially, Android is just Linux, so it just needs a working driver, and everything runs on top of that. Since the D4 is already 2.3.5, it should be just about as easy as dropping in the new drivers, tweak the DPI and Camera resolution, and let users test. I just don't have a capable computer or time between classes to try building it myself, since I would have a lot to learn before success.

id use it i hate the stock rom
(sorry if the title is misleading, this is not a comparison)
It seems to me that all of the ICS roms that we currently have for the droid 3 are quite similar. So similar in fact that I can't tell the difference. They all have the same bugs (no video recording, no face unlock, bluetooth on but not connected blah blah blah).
From what I've gathered, CM9 is performance based and AOKP offers more customization. Other than that, what are the differences between these 4 roms? What do they offer in comparison to the others? If I'm wrong and some roms lack the above bugs, please correct me.

i kinda agree. i have yet to try the new steel droid. im loving the aokp.
AFIAK, some of these latest ROMs like Gummy, and the MotoBlur just add onto existing functionality into AOKP.
The reason the "bugs" are so similar is because Hashcode and Dhacker29 have some type of shared hardware base code that is compiled against the CM9 and AOKP source.
Once they figure out how to get the HWCodecs going, I'm sure we'll get the video recording, possibly face unlock and video playback. I think that Hashcode already figured it out, but he may have ran into some kind of licensing issue which prevents him from releasing it (or getting sued).
From my experience on Gummy and AOKP, Gummy has phenomenal battery life, but AOKP boasts tons of modifications. Also, Gummy doesn't have docking and dock audio yet, and this is why I'm back on AOKP, but I'm considering trying CM9 and/or SD5 over the weekend.
I can tell the difference. They all have different options and system settings, they used altered launchers as well. Also AOKP has really neat toggle options.
Whats the newest, most bug free ROM out there for Bionic, thats still getting updates?
I've had the Bionic for a couple of weeks and already got disapointed.
back when i rocked the DX2 i was die-hard Eclipse.
well on bionic i notaced many bugs, and i re-flashed, redownloaded, the works. had the same issues.
anyway. nitro sold his bionic, so no more Eclipse. so i swung to the other side to try Liberty. its cool. no where neer as boss as Eclipse. but they both have pros and cons. anyway.
come to find out Liberty devs stopped for the bionic too. so, my question is, what is the newest, bestest rom, thats still getting updates, and lots of themes? preferably a boss ICS theme D
Active Bionic Roms
There are several alpha and beta Roms out for the Bionic however most of them still have bugs ranging from no 3G/4G to the front facing camera not working. From what I can tell the only stable Rom for the Bionic is gummy. This may be due to the Bionic having a locked boot loader. Hopefully either Nitro will get a used Bionic and continue development or development will increase when or if ICS is officially released on the Bionic.
i hope he does too. i really enjoyed Eclipse. besides the fact thant when i held down the power button to get the reboot options it would just straight up reboot. (very annowing when wanting recovery)
i think the AOKP ICS rom thats out looks mighty spiffy, but i dont know what all doesnt work, and i dont want to risk having to go back to my old old devour. (sold the DX2)
anyway. thanks for your input!
here is me and @insanemods rom mainly his but working on fixing all the bugs stuck at f.c.'s at the moment but mostly works themes galore lockscreen changes and such... here is the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1535293
I'm in the same boat as you, trying to find a stable ROM rather than go back to de-bloated Blur. The only other recommendation I can give besides those already mentioned is dhacker's April 5th nightly of CM9.
I obviously haven't been using it for long, but it has so far has a pretty consistent data connection.
DroidHive -> Downloads -> Bionic -> CM9 SELFKANG BIONIC ICS
I've been running CM9 Unofficial since it dropped. Currently I am on 04-04 and have had stable data and WiFi since I flashed it. HW accel and video are the only things really missing for me. Give it a shot.

thats sounds really nice. so theres CM9, and CM7.....wheres 8??
but a link would be helpful.
i just want something super stable, that will work with safestrap, and will be getting updated frequently, i like having all the bugs worked out, and having cool new additions
because i liked the option of going into recovery upon each boot.
and is anyone using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1527544 ?
i want a straightforward review of it. dont sugar coat it xD

it'd be pretty cool if they had a bug list, and screenshots...

i can see apple as first install install like nova launcher or apex and the "apple" is gone dude simple as that super customizable at that point.. just sayin' but do what you want..
I do prefer the AOKP ICS rom port over the CM9 just for the little details, but they're rather similar.
Being new to this stuff, I don't know what "Repo Sync & Build" means. But I've used the rom linked below, and in my eyes, it was merely the March 13th nightly of the AOKP rom port--also on droidhive, their latest is april 8th.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1527544
Both the AOKP and CM9 4.0.3 roms have the same bugs as mentioned above.
No HW accel. Games crash.
Video has issues.
Data is intermittent. I'll have rock steady data all day, but then the next day it won't work at all.

Is there any consensus on which is the most stable ROM with a solid 4G connection?

im with this guy.
even 3G
im using the one on her the repo sync and build ICS AOKP.
well, one thats getting updates like the ICS roms.
like is CM9 or the AOKP better?
or pretty much the same, but with one with 'rom controll"
hell, i wouldnt mind just a port of stock ICS with boss data connectivity.
oh, with the AOKP can i update between nightlys just by wiping cache and flashing, or do i need to factory reset everything?
I use eclipse 2.2 after using liberty for .901. I tried gummy but had issues.

anyone have a link for a stock 902 thats deodexed and flashable?
The Gummy ICS rom is VERY good and is only missing a working camcorder...and that's it. I ran it for days and ZERO issues, except for that. Eventually I just got too uncomfortable not being able to use the video camera and went back to stock. It just updated yesterday as well, but still no video recording:
http://goo.im/devs/TeamGummy/Roms/Targa
For that gummy ROM do you only flash that one, becsuse the Gapps are part of it?
no there is also a Gapps package for it as well....i'm sure its on their site.
I did not see it unless it isin a different slot than the ROMs. A link would help
After being on these forums for a while, I've come to know the 5 main ROMS for the D4.
AOKP
The Arctic
SELFKANG/CM9
Gummy
Eclipse
I think that there should be a thread that compares each ROM, and that helps people, myself included, choose from these wonderful pieces of software that would best be suited for their likings.
If I may, I came from CM7, and I miss it dearly. I also enjoyed MIUI, but always came back to CM7.
I am excited about CM9, but more than ICS, I want some tweakability and theming again. I would love to see CM7 themes.
However, my biggest actual need, is lapdock support. Whatever custom rom supports it will be my first choice.
I just wish I could code to help. Alas, I am not a coder.

I was more referring to features of the listed rooms in my first post. But theming and such are good things to discuss too
Is it still true that none of the ICS ROMs have a working video camera yet due to driver issues?
I'm still on stock, but recent issues with Bluetooth AVRCP being completely broken in both versions of the stock ROM have me interested in taking the plunge.
It's true. For video to work I guess we'll have to wait for an ICS release from Motorola. Doubt any dev will work on it knowing Motorola will release it.
I for one am a happy AOKP user. Not sure if you would be. Some have reported audio issues with ICS/AOKP/AOSP. At the moment I have no need for Bluetooth audio. Except maybe my carkit.
I'm perfectly happy sticking on eclipse 1.3.6 right now its really fast, and no issues as of yet
Looking for a nice ROM with stable data connection, absolutely love ICS but sketchy data is putting it on hold for now. Gonna try eclipse...

Eclipse is absolutely amazing, haven't run in to any problems at all
Hi Guys i was wondering if [WIP][KERNEL][KEXEC] Droid 3 ROMs (JB Project) CM10 OR AOKP was a daily driver rom and if so is there anyway to get the camera working if not what else is not working and good or ok battery life. Thanks let me know

I doubt it. ICS isn't even fully functional on the D3 yet,and although headway has been made I think those same problems (camera, etc.) still exist in jb.
However, if i'm wrong, definitely let me know, I'd love to see it and flash it for myself!
I've been using the 1103 CM10 for 3 weeks now.
It's definitely not finished, some big things like camera and proximity sensor doesn't work.
But apart from that, it only has minor issues.
I wouldn't say it's ready for daily yet, but for me I prefer CM10 over fully working gingerbread at the moment.
I made a list of all issues etc that I came across after 2-3 weeks:

Decide for yourself
I am running 1103 as well and it seems to needs a few seconds to quickly switch tasks. What have you done to improve that?
Turn up the free memory levels.
