Not a bad find but i'd rather spend 10$ extra for a genuine sandisk 64gb one... i've had so many usb drives die on me and its quite annoying, i only ever buy name brand ones now.

Transcend is a decent name brand at least I think it is. I have memory cards and a flash drive from them that I have had for years that have had no problems

I find transcend to be a really reliable brand as well, never had problems. That is so much cheaper than over here in the UK you chaps are lucky.

Yea. Also when your getting into that size of drive, you'd also want to make sure it is a [REAL] USB3 device with USB3 transfer rates.

What's the point? The nexus only has a usb 2.0 port..
I picked up a Patriot Flex 32gb for 19.99 on sale a bit ago, turns out it's made by kingston.
clockcycle, Usb 3.0 has been Referred to as USB3 since when it launched which has caused some confusion but none the less USB3 is here to stay.

You mean USB 3.0? I don't have any devices with USB 3.0 compatibility, not even my Nexus 7.

Well real USB 3.0 flash devices perform faster in a USB 2.0 port. This is because they use a faster flash memory controller and the data transfer rates are generally higher even compared to their 2.0 counterparts. I see the difference when using Windows 8 To Go on a USB 3.0 stick vs 2.0.

Yes it will. A USB 3 key has 9 contacts, but is otherwise identical to a USB 2 key. It will fit. Not only that, they are backwards compatible electrically speaking.

Have this in the 32gb version. Works great. Also both of my USB 3 drives work just fine using a standard micro to USB adapter.

Hi. I don't like to be that guy who revives threads, but I need to know if anyone else had purchased the 64GB flash drive in this thread...
I purchased it without thinking it through (I saw that a member with 1.3K posts and was a relatively active member on these forums, so I figured the site was legit) and I believe I may have been scammed $30.
While it has only been 3 business days (generally enough time for something to be delivered via USPS), there have been reports of them not providing correct USPS tracking numbers. In my case, this has happened to me, and I fear that I may not be able to recover my money.
I sent them a message and I'll be waiting to see if I get a package today or Monday.
I didn't Google the supplier like I should have, which is unfortunate. I'll probably be out $30 because of this.
Thanks,
Larkable

USB-OTG microSD adapter

I wanted an adapter that plugged in to the micro USB port with OTG capability & just had a microSD slot on the other end. However, I couldn't find one, so I set out to make one. I took an micro USB to USB adapter and modified it to be OTG capable and then plugged in the smallest USB microSD adapter I could find. Now I have a nice little adapter that I can plug in without having it flopping around like a tail on the end of a cable. Just thought I'd share my project.
I used information from this page to hook up the wiring correctly:

Wish I'd have found that when I was looking for it, & I did look quite a bit. Anyway, thanks for the link, I just ordered a backup!
Does anyone have the balls to try to make a y-cable and test it?
Head 1: MicroUSB for tablet.
- All cables connected with ID connected to ground for OTG.
Head 2: Female USB (power only)
- Only black and red power cables connected.
Head 3: Female USB (power and data)
- All 4 cables connected
What we hopefully should receive is the possibility to charge the tablet while having storage mounted, plus have the USB devices powered by the power cable instead of the tablet.
I don't have the Nexus 7 myself yet, else i would have tried by now (not available here yet).
I need something like this cause i wan't to replace the screen in my car with this tablet. But since i want to replace the current screen which is mounted inside the dashboard, i wan't to be able to charge while using external storage, since it won't be too easy to tage the tablet in and out all the time.
Question is just if Nexus 7 allow us to use USB as host while charging? If not, could that be kernel related?
Hope someone got the nerves to try this out

Unfortunately there is apparently a several week wait for it.
Delivery: Estimated between Wed. Aug. 8 and Tue. Aug. 21
It appears several of the USB-OTG cables being sold are shipped from Asia and have multi week shipping delays.

You'd need to mess with the kernel to keep it from turning on the Vbus supply and disabling charging while in host mode. Otherwise I don't see why it wouldn't work.

quick question 3.0 only affects transfer speeds when connected to a computer right? for charging it's always going to be the adapter's output (2A)

If connected to a computer that has a USB3 port, it'll be a faster charge than if you were to use USB2. USB2 has a max of about 500mA, theoretically. USB3 has a max of 900mA. When using a wall charger, it'll be the same as USB2, since the adapters output (most commonly 2A) remains the same. That also goes without saying: Using the wall charger will always be faster than using a computer, since the output is considerably higher.

Thats the standard USB 3.0 Micro connector. Its basically the standard USB micro connector we are all used to with an additional set of pins on the side. The nice thing is the ports are backwards compatible but with slower speeds.
If it's been upgraded to 2.5A then that explains the super fast charging speed.
Just got my S5
And nah, the wall adapter is still 2A...at least the one that came with mine is:

I think the fast charging is because of "Quick Charge 2.0" from Qualcomm's 801 chip.
My wife got her shimmery white phone yesterday that came with a white cord and charger and I was hoping my black on would come with a black cord and charger, no such luck, looks like they are all white.

Yup, you sure can. The USB3 port is backward-compatible so any of the old USB2 microUSB cables will work just fine.
the 2.0 cables seem to charge extraordinarily slow for me. The 3.0 cable from the same 2A source seems real fast.
Not sure if it is just the first impressions or an indicator that you should probably plan to use the 3.0 cables from now on...

Did you stop the test at 70% writing or 70% checking? I ordered a 64GB sd card from hong kong not long ago and it did write 64GB to it, but if you then check the data almost all of it is corrupt, in my case the sd card can hold only 8GB of data.
Those 2 in 1 Cases are basically just 2 usb drives stuffed into one case, each usb plug is connected to a different circuit board, i cant find them right now, i think i ordered one about 1,5 year ago on aliexpress or dealextreme.
So i just wanted to know if both usb plugs are connected to the same circuit board (do the same files show up while using the different plugs)
edit: just read your second post again, if you got them on auction its more likely that it is a genuine 64gb, i thought it was a buy it now for 6$

[Review] Tronsmart USB C - USB A 6ft cable & USB C - Micro USB adapter

For almost two weeks now I have been testing out a USB C - USB A 6 foot cable and USB C - Micro USB adapter from Tronsmart. They sent me these products in return for an honest review.
To get links out of the way, here they are.
The cable:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B018S348RG
The adapter:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B018S827GU
First off, we're going to test and see if the products are compliant to the USB C standard and include the 56k resistor that it is advertised to have.
For the Nexus 5X from an adb shell we run the command "cat /sys/bus/i2c/drivers/fusb301/*/fclientcur".
These are the results we are looking for.
0 - standard USB charging (good)
1500 - 1.5 amp type C charging (good)
3000 - 3 amp type C charging (bad)
I am testing these with my laptop and not from a terminal on the phone itself, so we will be looking for an output of 0.
Adapter:

Cord:
OnePlus cable (not using the correct resistor):
Testing is good! These cables and adapters do adhere to the USB C standard, so you can use them without worry.
I won't include images of the cables, because they're just long cables. I will show, however, the size and fit of the adapter.
As you can see, it is just a little bit bigger than the end of most micro-USB cables. The male micro end does not plug all the way into the adapter, but I am sure it was designed that way in order to keep the overall footprint of the adapter as small as possible (and in my opinion was the way to go here). Most of you I imagine wouldn't care but some of you might not like the aesthetics of it.
Both the cables and adapters (which both come in packs of two by the way) are built very well. They all feel like they will last a long time as long as you don't abuse them. The actual feel of the cables themselves are identical to the cable that is bundled with the phone, but without the soft touch finish. The cables come as either 3.3 or 6 feet in length. I decided to pick the 6 footer as it is perfect to use if you charge your phone right next to you in bed like I do. They all charge quickly and and properly at whatever current your charger is rated to put out.
Overall, I would give the cords a solid 10/10 and the adapters a 9/10. I would recommend them to everybody, especially at their price. Buy!
Do you own a OTG cable with a microUSB end you could try with the adapter? The TECHmatte adapter I have doesn't work.

Yes, that is what I tested it with. It's just a tiny footlong cable that came with an Anker battery pack.

I guess you didn't understand what I asked. This is an OTG cable:
You can plug peripherals and other USB devices into it. Thumb drives for example.
The TECHmatte adapter works fine for charging and data transfer when used with a normal USB cable.

I have similar adapter and tried using otg with micro usb cable. Sadly it didn't work. The type-c otg adapters have different pin configuration for the device to act as host AFAIK.
But I am able to use my micro usb chargers and data cables.

Reason for Note 9 slow file transfer speed

Hello,
When doing file transfer from/to note 9 512gb using the stock usb-c cable i am getting usb2 speed of 20/30MBs. Also, the connected device list on my windows 10 laptop reports "galaxy note 9 could be faster if connected to usb 3". Well i tested it on multiple computers for sure having usb 3 ports and the result remains the same.
can people share what speeds are they getting and what does the device list on their computer show note 9 to be (usb 3 or usb 2).
Please share any fix to solve this.
thanks.

Sounds like your Note 9 is not performing as it should be, i’m getting mega fast transfer speeds, for example 19.7 gig file size, it will take around 2 mins to transfer if i got multiple files and folders..
Let’s say around 25 ish gig it will take around 7/8 ish mins
I’m on windows 10 64-bit, have you got smart switch installed on your laptop/desktop ? And have you got the Samsung USB driver installed ? install smart switch as it will install the correct driver for you!
I didn't think the standard USB cable, that came with the phone, is USB 3.0/3.1, only USB 2.
Maybe time to change the cable... the original ones of every model used even for charging don't last to long. Try another one to see if that's the problem.

Are you sure?
Because the NOTE8, Galaxy S8/S9 series all came with USB 2.0 cables.
And I can't see anything in the doc's that came with the phone, that it has a USB 3.0/3.1 cable, even though the phone itself supports USB 3.1 Gen 1.

Dude that would be so dumb if Samsung gave us an USB-2.0 cable with a USB 3 compliant phone! it's an USB 3.0 Cable that ships with the Note 9 (im guessing) and I’m sure i was getting the same speeds on the S8+ Mega fast transfers, i was useing the standard cable that came with the S8+!
is there anyway to check ?
i'll make a short video of my transfer speeds!

Searching for info.
Samsung does not state what USB standard the cable is.
But the lack of blue trim on the USB-A plug would suggest it's not a USB 3.0/3.1 cable.
The reason I suggested the NOTE9 supplied cable might only be USB 2.0, was for the above reason.
But also due to a thread I saw here on XDA (S9 or S9+) where it was noted that they came with a USB 2.0 cable, despite the phone supporting USB 3.1 Gen 1
And the supplied cable is definately anorexic

Whilst I still haven't found anything directly from Samsung, about the supplied cable with the Note9,
I did check the 15W travel charger kits, and they are using the exact same cable/plug as those that come with the phone.
And they DO state it's a USB 2.0 cable.
My S9+ and my friend's S8+ both came with USB 2.0 cables. I'm not sure about the Note 9 but I can ask my friend who has one. I don't see why they'd suddenly start shipping USB 3.0 cables for similarly specced devices.
I can also confirm that my note9 512gb came with USB2.0 type C cable.
How do i know this? because I have an original USB3.0 type C from my Axon 7 which I compared to with the cable provided with the note9.
If you inspect closely inside the USB-A plug, 2.0 only has 4 pins. While 3.0 has an additional 5 pins aside from the standard 4 pins.

Is there a 3.0 cable available
I have also had a frustrating time uploading photos from my S9 Note to PC. Assuming the main issue is the 2.0 cable; does Samsung offer a faster cable?

ive used a thunderbolt cable and transfering from and to internal storage is quite fast. do t use the charging cable supplied and try and get a hight quality cable.
Bro. I can assure you that Note 9 comes with Type c to USB 2.0 data cable. It has only 4 wire inside to transfer data and charge phone. Also if you look at the USB side you can clearly see it has only 4 pin it to connect with your USB port.
Purchase a new type c to USB 3.1 data cable and see the difference your self. Also make your your desktop / laptop has ssd for better data transfer speed.

LOL, you mean like Samsung providing a 25watt charger for the Note 10+ while it supports 45 watt charging?
Companies do this all the time, it saves them $$ to get you to buy another cable/charger ect...
Seriously, the manufacturers aren't out to help you, only their bottom line...

Just got my Note 10 + 5G today! Wow it's a beast only just got round to setting it up screen is gorgeous, Dude don’t Super Fast Charging damage the battery in the long run ? i have turned off fast charging i use a extra long usb cable like 3 meters long.. Then i plug in my USB C cable to charge my Note 9 take around 6/7+ hours to charge up the phone to 80/90% phone stays super cool.
I will be doing the same for Note 10 + super slow charge.. What’s the rush that you need your battery topped up so fast ? With power banks available you can charge on the move man!
if you’re looking to upgrade every 1/2 years yeah leave on fast charge but i still am using my Tab S 8.4 LTE as a daily driver had over 4300+ chargers dischargers just mange to get a new battery out of a broken Tab S 8.4 LTE so I’m getting good hard usage hours out of it again please note it's coming up to 4 or 5 years old
Also i'm planning to keep the Note 10 + for at least 4 years so fast charge i rather not use it.. Plus Samsung are assholes they will not sell you the battery..
But yeah i totally get where you coming from they all are copying ipoop so no true USB 3.0 cables or super fast chargers not bundled in with a £1100 phone witch is a joke!
It would be nice if there was some clarity on what cable to buy for fastest charging and data transfer.
The Note 9 USB cable is listed with a top speed transfer speed off 480 Mb/Sec. And a samsung tech rep told me it uses a USB 3.0 standard.
