It has nothing to do with that. The radio itself does not support 1700 MHz. The only two non-T-Mobile phones that I know are compatible with T-Mobile 3G/4G out of the box are the Meizu MX and the Galaxy Nexus. And if you wanna count the AT&T Note in with the hacked radio (Note that the hardware actually already supports 1700 MHz).

Well that sucks i was getting excited and was getting ready to buy it

If you wanna non-T-Mobile phones on T-Mobile, you're gonna have a tough time because very few places in the world use 1700 MHz. They use 850/1900 MHz (AT&T frequency). T-Mobile is moving to 1900 MHz, but that's gonna take a while. For now, if you wanna be able to use non-T-Mobile phones, you're gonna need a pentaband phone because 1700 MHz is an afterthought for most manufacturers.

Can't he flash the Chinese radio to make it work on T-Mobile? What about that thread in the dev section?

It'll work but he will still have EDGE on T-Mobile because it's a different 3G frequency than the phone supports.

Oh well is there any phone similar to the droid 3 that's easy to unlock and root and support gsm?

T-mobile 4g settings?

Hey Guys,
I have an unlocked lg optimus 2x. I have been using it with att 4g for the past year or so. I just switched to t-mobile prepaid, but I cannot get the 4g to work. I am always on 2G.
What gives? If there is anyone who has this working can you please let me know your baseband, RIL and APN settings? Not sure which will solve my problem

If y our o2x is anything like mine, it probably doesn't have the right radio frequencies to use tmobile's "4g" (actually hspa+). I wrote about this before:

And fwiw, mine is BB1120 with matching ril.

Yes, lg does. There is lg Optimus LTE.
But this lg Optimus 2x doesn't.
The t-mobile usa's 4G isn't a true 4G, as I mentioned above.

Ah son of a gun! I just got on a t-mobile prepaid monthly thing, well that's the end of that. I thought t-mobile had the G2X natively, so they would definitely support HSPA+ on their network. (An epic D'oh moment for me here )
In the usa 4g doesn't refer to the speed its referring to fourth generation wireless technology. Its confusing but as far as speed its more like 3.5g

Really? In that case I take it back, that's phenomenal!
The picture is from Mobile Syrup, a canadian mobile site.
It is absolutely true, I'm from Quebec City and I similar (35-40mbps) speed depending my location in the city.
The phone has potential to go up to 100mbps on cellular data network, wonder if theres a single carrier somewhere offering that kind of speed
So far best speeds u have got was 13Mbps on 3G & 42Mbps on wireless using N
Would love to see it on a wireless AC router.
I hope to upgrade my router to a ac one in a few months, but if any one has an ac router can you run a speed test using speedtest.net and also do a screen shot of the wireless connection speed from phone to router.

Frankly thats not brilliant, but since my One, iPad and PC are connected at the same time while my brother is on my PS3 and my mums got her San Fransico 2 and HP Touchpad and my brothers GF has her Blackberry its not going to get much better than that.

Who's your ISP?
EE 80/20 Fibre,
Was quoted 64.5Mbps but modem is in sync at 79999 & 20000 with a max of 95000 / 35000
With a cable connection can get around 73Mbps

Means nothing. That's probably a picture from one of the guys on the Development forum.
A few modifications will allow you to see the other networks...the phone supports a few of the frequencies in Verizon, but the network will never allow your device and you would never have full functionality anyway.

Um yeah, I can see Verizon's AWS LTE network on my Xperia ZL around San Diego sometimes. It's not very widespread, and without band 13 it won't be very useful. None of those shots show the phone connected to the LTE network though.
The Nexus 5 has the Qualcomm WTR1605L, which does have support for LTE band 13 700mhz (Verizon), it appears to just be turned off in the N5. Is there a possibility of waking this part of the chip and using the phone on Verizon by just throwing in a SIM card?
I just saw which chip it had and researched to discover that it does have support for band 13, which is verizon.
Is there a simple explanation why this isn't possible, other and having to figure out a solution for ESN/IMEI?
Cheers

I didn't mean it would be slow...I meant it wouldn't work well.
Some towers might work great, but others wouldn't work at all. In the end, you'd have like 1/4 of the coverage of normal, since the bands that are accessible by the radio in the N5 aren't used heavily by Verizon (the LTE bands, at least).
But only the internet would we funky. Voice would work

Voice wouldn't work, if anything it would be the other way around. From what I know the Nexus 5 supports a few (maybe only one) LTE band of VZW and you need their CDMA network (and your phone activated on said network) to make calls.
Wouldn't nexus 5 CDMA bands work if registered...

I don't have Verizon and they can eat a bag of dicks for all I care because of the crap that they've done. But for the past week, I have been thinking about how the Nexus 4 had it's LTE disabled and how a patch enabled it.
What if the Nexus 5 could be patched to enable Verizon. Maybe borrow something like a Verizon G2 radio driver or something?
Being a ham radio operator, I have always liked to mod things. Flash patched bioses on computers to enable things like raid or slic mod so Windows activates easy after a format/reinstall.
Has anyone else thought about a mod like this?
Sent from my LG-LS970 using the Power of the Force
Sprint and Verizon use identical CDMA technology. If fact, they both have roaming agreement to be able to use each other's towers. The problem would be Verizon's CDMA database. They just won't allow the IMEI unless you can spoof it with another Verizon number that's been activated.
LTE on the other hand should work just fine for data as long as you have Verizon's AWS around since there us no amplifier for the 700 MHz in the N5.

Poor battery life after switching to T-Mobile?

What's up guys,
so I have a Motorola Moto Maxx XT1225 running 5.0.2 stock (rooted) and I'm currently getting about 3hs of screen on time.
I really don't know why or when this happened, but I used to get around 6~ average.
The only thing that changed is my carrier (I switched to T-Mobile). But still, I'm always with solid LTE signal / WiFi.
Ideas? Thanks
Bump. No ideas?

I'm guessing you're radio hopping. Verizon was probably more stable on the connection. (ie: finding 4g or 3g and staying there)
Try using a root based program to lock your phone in 3g or 4g.

Hi! thanks for your help
I was actually using AT&T before T-Mobile.
Can you recommend a good app to do that? I am not sure if that's the problem because my phone is always with solid LTE signal.
I'm also thinking about installing a new rom. Maybe CM or Nexus Experience. Suggestions?
Thanks!!
I used an exposed module that had that in it. I think it was called APM+ maybe? It was a power menu that added flashlight/screencap/recovery/radio lock when you hit the power button.
Sorry I can't recommend a rom on this device I have a locked boot loader. But on all my other devices I've always liked cm the most.

Looking at T-mobiles coverage map (where they list band 12 compatible devices) I saw something interesting. It grouped the Nexus 5x, 6, and 6p saying their update is one its way. Maybe this isn't supposed to be a universal image as previously believed? I notice I drop calls over VOLTE which has been frustrating in Detroit where we have a lot of indoor band 12 but otherwise my signal has been LTE since marshmallow
