Means nothing. That's probably a picture from one of the guys on the Development forum.
A few modifications will allow you to see the other networks...the phone supports a few of the frequencies in Verizon, but the network will never allow your device and you would never have full functionality anyway.

Um yeah, I can see Verizon's AWS LTE network on my Xperia ZL around San Diego sometimes. It's not very widespread, and without band 13 it won't be very useful. None of those shots show the phone connected to the LTE network though.
The Nexus 5 has the Qualcomm WTR1605L, which does have support for LTE band 13 700mhz (Verizon), it appears to just be turned off in the N5. Is there a possibility of waking this part of the chip and using the phone on Verizon by just throwing in a SIM card?
I just saw which chip it had and researched to discover that it does have support for band 13, which is verizon.
Is there a simple explanation why this isn't possible, other and having to figure out a solution for ESN/IMEI?
Cheers

I didn't mean it would be slow...I meant it wouldn't work well.
Some towers might work great, but others wouldn't work at all. In the end, you'd have like 1/4 of the coverage of normal, since the bands that are accessible by the radio in the N5 aren't used heavily by Verizon (the LTE bands, at least).
But only the internet would we funky. Voice would work

Voice wouldn't work, if anything it would be the other way around. From what I know the Nexus 5 supports a few (maybe only one) LTE band of VZW and you need their CDMA network (and your phone activated on said network) to make calls.
Wouldn't nexus 5 CDMA bands work if registered...

I don't have Verizon and they can eat a bag of dicks for all I care because of the crap that they've done. But for the past week, I have been thinking about how the Nexus 4 had it's LTE disabled and how a patch enabled it.
What if the Nexus 5 could be patched to enable Verizon. Maybe borrow something like a Verizon G2 radio driver or something?
Being a ham radio operator, I have always liked to mod things. Flash patched bioses on computers to enable things like raid or slic mod so Windows activates easy after a format/reinstall.
Has anyone else thought about a mod like this?
Sent from my LG-LS970 using the Power of the Force
Sprint and Verizon use identical CDMA technology. If fact, they both have roaming agreement to be able to use each other's towers. The problem would be Verizon's CDMA database. They just won't allow the IMEI unless you can spoof it with another Verizon number that's been activated.
LTE on the other hand should work just fine for data as long as you have Verizon's AWS around since there us no amplifier for the 700 MHz in the N5.

It has nothing to do with that. The radio itself does not support 1700 MHz. The only two non-T-Mobile phones that I know are compatible with T-Mobile 3G/4G out of the box are the Meizu MX and the Galaxy Nexus. And if you wanna count the AT&T Note in with the hacked radio (Note that the hardware actually already supports 1700 MHz).

If you wanna non-T-Mobile phones on T-Mobile, you're gonna have a tough time because very few places in the world use 1700 MHz. They use 850/1900 MHz (AT&T frequency). T-Mobile is moving to 1900 MHz, but that's gonna take a while. For now, if you wanna be able to use non-T-Mobile phones, you're gonna need a pentaband phone because 1700 MHz is an afterthought for most manufacturers.

If you actually paid attention to what I said, you would know I wasn't referring to my signal strength.
I was simply making an observation that when my phone in "Automatic" or "Home Only" mode my phone only detects 3G because there isn't a strong enough LTE signal but when I force roam it appears to pick up a weak LTE signal a whole lot better. This is simply my opinion and I have no testing to back it up.

I agree, I also notice to pick up lte better when the phone is roaming but it's a weak signal.
At this particular job I'm working at, when I'm outside at the back of the building I pick up a pretty good lte signal but when I walk to the front I lose it when not roaming, when I put the phone in roam only I pick up a weak lte signal in the front of the building where it won't pick up when I'm not roaming.
Sent from my HTCONE using xda premium
The reason it "appears" to pick up LTE better is because selecting "force Roam" causes the phone to rescan for the available signals. The HTCONE has a very long rescan time for LTE but can be changed if you have your MSL.
I didn't think CDMA carriers allow 4g LTE roaming. I'm in an area with no Sprint 4g or LTE. Verizon has LTE all over and roaming options or roam only has never picked up a LTE signal.
If I could have one carrier and roam on LTE with another I would have been doing this along time ago as I've had a few phones that have never seen 4g or LTE and were capable.

Signal Icons
ok first T-Mo phone so go easy on me -
anyone know what the signal icons signify? So far I have seen:
H (HSPA? what shows when you get HSPA+)
G
E
What else could/should I see? What shows when LTE is active?
LTE will display when you have it, I think E is for Edge, R is roaming, G is GPRS I think, and 3G is of course for 3G.
I have Metro PCS which is T-Mobile GSM. Can i join in this thread too lol? T-Mobile Visual voicemail app works flawlessly for me by the way.
Now that I've seen it mentioned, I haven't seen the h (hspa) icon displayed as of yet. Can't complain since I get LTE pretty much everywhere I am. Occasionally I'll hit 3g but not often.
Has anyone receive the update to 4.4.2 yet?

I gotta say that switching from Sprint to T-Mobile in the burbs of Chicago was the best move I've ever made in my many years of cell phone ownership..I have had every carrier, more than once, and even though some were good with their cellular service, NONE of them ever delivered anywhere near their "up to" download data speed....Until I found T-mobile!
In my house, where I usually got 3-8 meg download speeds on lte from Verizon, ATT, and Sprint, I am regularly getting 30- 40 megs download speed from T-Mobile; uploads from the others were in the 1-3 meg range, with T-mobile they have been 7-11 megs!
Plus, the clearest phone call quality I have had since phones went from Analog to Digital many years ago..
I know this probably wont last, as thousands of users are dumping Verizon/Sprint/ATT for T-mobiles new plans and programs over the last month or 2, but, hey, I am enjoying it while its here!
Plus I have called their Customer Service department a couple of times in the last 2 days, and they have been so nice and pleasant, I didnt want to get off the phone with them..
Hopefully, they force the "other" cellular companies to stop treating us like dirt, and treat us like the people that sign their paychecks....Hey, AREN'T we those people anyways????
Columbus, Ohio. After 14 years with Sprint I tried T-Mobile 6 months ago. I'm impressed with how well T-Mobile has improved in my area. Go Bucks!

The low uploads are probably going to be standard on Band 41 because it's TDD-LTE which inherently allows the network to distribute more bandwidth to the download side. High uploads aren't really necessary since a disproportionate amount of the usage is download and TDD LTE allows them to boost their download speeds using less spectrum proportionally to the other carriers by sacrificing upload.

Sadly they don't have enough spectrum to do much more in 800 or 1900 but hopefully they can keep the capacity up with 2500/2600 which they have a ton of.

This might be a dumb question, how do you know you have Spark verse regular LTE? I have LTE and the star (and the star will rotate) indicators on the top of the screen but when I do a speed test get like 10 meg or less down - typical LTE speeds. I am on the edge of Spark and haven't traveled any closer to the core layer.
My M8 seems to be on 3g more than on LTE where my M7 seemed to me on LTE more than 3g.
##debug# in the dialer, select lte engineering or lte.. something, can't remember. anyway it will show the band, 41 is 2.5ghz

You can use an app signal check also. This is what I've been using. Seems to work pretty good. SS attached ?
