I pre-ordered a nexus 7 8G and it came last Friday. I logged into playstore and got notified of my 25$ credit. Seeing it's a solid tablet I decided to give it to my parents. The next day, I walked into bestbuy and got a 16G, but I didn't get any credit after I linked it w/ my Google account.
I checked the playstore online and didn't find a place to complain, because it wasn't ordered from the playstore.
I'm wondering if anyone else is on the same boat as mine? Is there a way to claim the credit?

There was a glitch where a factory restore would allow you to get extra credit so to combat that they probably took away the ability to get multiple credits to one gmail account. Just a guess'

I bought two from play store.. one connected to my google one to wifes.. only got one $25 credit.. CS told me it was one $25 credit per Credit card...
My understanding is that you only get the credit once per google account. So if you linked the 1st tablet to your google account and were given the credit than you're done no more credits because it's linked to the account not the device.
Do a factory data reset, have your parent create their own Google account and sign in with it. They should get the $25 credit during initial setup once they link a credit card. Just activated my 2nd unit yesterday with my other Google account and got the credit right no problem.
Two different CC cards? Or the same CC on the two google accounts?
Use your parents Google Account to activate, should load the credit on their account.
It's one credit per account, due to all these replacement units... People would be getting $25 credits for each defective unit they'd received.

I received my Nexus 7.
Logged in with my Google account. Set up wallet. Nothing.
Checked online and cannot find a step that I missed. I thought that when I sign in with my Google username and password, and my Google Wallet account, it would appear in the drop down as a payment type for play store purchases. All I have is my main credit card listed in the play store. I did get the $10 credit from Wallet, but not the $25 from the pre-order.
Any ideas?

I believe the $25 credit is for the Play Store and won't show up in your wallet.
When you make a purchase in the Play Store it should show you how much credit you have left.
I haven't tried this yet, but I believe this is how it works from the other posts I've read.

Also, you must you the account you used to set up your Nexus.

Yeah, I simulated purchasing an app and the drop down only had my credit card, not the card and play credit like I have seen in screen shots.
I guess I will call Google.
When I ordered my N7 I clicked the little box that said "link my account" and then when I went to the play store I got an email saying I was credited. Have you tried rebooting and/or resetting?

yeah, i got that email too.
Ordered: Wednesday
Delivered: Today (Friday)
I also received my email (@gmail) today with the $25 credit info. I think it came shortly after I signed into the device using my gmail account.
Transformers was pre-loaded on the device in my Play store / Movies, but you can manually "download" it too which I'm doing and it takes about 1.5 hours FYI...
I got an email saying my play store credit was ready for use!

I just got my N7 and signed in, before the setup was finished I got an email on my phone saying my $25 credit was available and how to select it for purchases.
Can I buy a six pack?????
Just wanted to update for future use. I performed a factory reset and when I reentered my Google information I immediately received my play credit.
Thanks all for the suggestions.

I had to re enter the credit card that was already associated with the account and then it was there. A little strange but simple enough.
Once I set up my Google Account, it told me that I 'qualify for the $25 Credit for the Play Store', but I needed to set up a credit card first. After adding the one that I already had in there, it said 'The credit card you set up doesn't qualify for the credit.' I guess it's because it's an Austrian credit card.
Bottom line: all you should have to do is link it to your account and add a credit card.

How come some people are getting 10 dollars from google wallet as well as the 25 from the play store?
I have 2 nexus 7's on the way, will I be able to get 2x $25 credit on one google account with both of the devices?
Never received my $25 credit so I called Google. They had me do a factory reset only and as soon as I logged in I received the $25 credit. I did not have to add a new credit card or delete the existing one (only a factory reset and it worked).
Has anyone else run in to this problem?
My sister was setting hers up and she didn't know her password. She skipped signing in during the setup and reset her password (after setup). Then I did a factory reset and she did the initial setup again, this time signing in with her Google account.
We never saw the screen mentioning the free $25, nor did she receive an email about it.

Yes I have the same issue. No credit and no email. I already had a credit card in Wallet so I've deleted it and reentered it, but still no credit. Trying to avoid doing a reset and I've emailed Google but I won't hold my breath.
Same here, No 25$, already tried every method possible. Waiting for replay from Google.

All you need to do is go to the play store chose a app you wanna buy, then it will ask you from which credit card you wanna pay with than from the drop down menu you can choose the 25$ credit!

[Q]»The 25$ free credit will be linked to my credit card or my gmail? I mean if I buy the tablet for my friend using my friend's gmail account but using my credit card, then deleted my credit card info from his play store account , will he become able to benefit from the free 25$ credit without needing my credit card info??
It is associated with your google play/Wallet account which uses your gmail account. when you first log into the device the credit is placed in that account.
It is not associated with who purchased the device.

Is there a way to check your balance? I got a email saying i got the $25 even though i didnt preorder. Want to be able to keep track of it since i dont expect to spend it all at once.
Unless you log into his new device, it would use HIS account. When you setup the device, one of the first things you do is associate the device to an exciting or newly created account.

The credit is to get you used to buying stuff. It is not just for pre-order orders.

NVM figured it out. You need to log into google wallet (non app) and check balance under payment method. There it shows your google play credit.
Article over at Android Police shares an interesting little loop hole...
If you perform a factory reset, and then register your N7 with a different account you will get another $25 Play credit. Interesting, since I use at least 2 accounts on my Tab regularly.

Curious to see if this is "As Intended" by Google.

I just spoke to the gent that I sold my N7 to and he did not get the credit.

Has anyone received an additional $20 Play Store credit on their replacement devices upon activation?
Nah... I got the N7 this morning. Thought the trick would still work. I first signed in with my account, which I didn't plan on using this N7 much in the future, as my gf would be using it the most. I got the $25. I then reset it and use my gf's account. Nothing showed up. Tried resetting four five times, with different cards. No luck! Whoops...
Didn't wanna be an ass, so I'm sharing her credit with her.
If its too good to be true, it probably is....but I wonder if google would really come back after the money on your purchases?
ive just recieved my nexus 7, 2 infact and havent recieved any play store credit , added credit card as well.
it was mentioned all over the comments in that article that Google patched it. the advertisement was only for a "limited time" anyway so its understandable
It appears I cannot use the $25 credit for apps that are not compatible with the N7. The app works on my phone and is 9.95. But when I order it, even on the web version of "play" from my N7 the only option I get is my credit card.

What about reflashing stock or a different ROM to the N7? Would that give you the credit back, or was this patched too?
I just got my replacement N7 today and when I was setting everything up I opened up the Google Wallet app and sure enough when it finished setting up my account it showed another $10 on my prepaid card. It's especially nice since i spent $8 and change from my first Wallet account filling up my Buell last night.

So far so good. I've only had it for 3 hours tho so we'll see how it goes but all seems good now.
Yea the money is linked to the NFC chip. It will reset back to $10 when you switch to a custom rom.
My Galaxy Nexus did this and I got $15 twice. I used the N7 to buy McDonald's and after switching to CM10, Wallet reset my balance to $10.
So if you play your cards right, you can maximize your gift cards.
I wouldn't try to take advantage of the process but I also won't turn away a free buck. My Galaxy Nexus and N7 have 2 different balances even though I use the same account. Why they don't limit it to one free gift card to any one account is beyond me. Google is smart so I'm assuming this was intentional.
They are trying to push their Wallet system so what better way to increase usage then to give people free money to use it with.

Actually, I first signed into my wife's account on the replacement and it gave her $25 to use then when I unlocked and rooted it I used my account like usual. I got my original and my replacement from gamestop so I don't know if it it work would or not on a unit straight from google.

Do the replacements usually come with another play store credit? I thought that play store credit was tied to your account and not per device?

It is tied to your account, but if you use a different account when first signing into your replacement, that account will get $25 credit. I used my wifes's account, signed in, she got the credit then I turned on usb debugging, then unlocked/rooted and signed in on my account.

I had my family buy a bunch of google play gift cards for my son for Christmas.
We've been purchasing apps without a problem until today. I went to purchase Greedy Spiders for $0.99 and I could not use the Google Play gift cards. The card was greyed out with a message right below the cards stating "This payment method has been declined.", but noting a balance of $12.05.
I called Google Play support and had to go through 3 calls and 6 support reps before one finally addressed the problem. The developer of the app is not allowing payment using Google Play gift cards. The developer of the app only accepts payment by credit card. This seems crazy to me. It's kinda like going to BestBuy and being unable to use BestBuy gift cards to buy a Sony TV because Sony only accepts credit card payment.
I'm not sure how many other developers are not accepting Google Play as a payment method, but I wanted to share the story.

yep. Aren't those gift cards supposed to help protect you from compromising your personal information online? ID theft is a pretty huge problem nowdays. I would be wary of doing business with that developer....
While I'm certain this vendor is the exception to the majority as I've had an Android phone for years and never experienced this, there will always be some vendors unless Google changes their policies to prevent developers from doing this. IMHO, I blame Google more than anyone. Google should not be providing developers the option to exclude Google Play gift cards when developers sell their products through the Google Play store.
I just came across this issue too but it seems to be for EVERY app or movie i have tried to download. I have a google play balance of $85 that seems to be utterly useless now! I need to do more research into this because this is just not acceptable and i feel extremely cheated. This is the first thread i came across so thought i would share my experience. If anyone has any input or an alternate reason as to why i can no longet use my play credit to make purchases i would be very interested to know.
Well with respect, Google Play is more like Amazon or EBay as such they allow anyone to write an app and publish it. And since Google is a world wide service, some countries may not or be able to accept that gift card service.
It happens but it is rare. We dealt with this with the initial $25 Play Store credit we got with our Nexus 7s. A very few developers wouldn't/couldn't accept the Gift Cards...
Or maybe it is a time factor. Maybe the listings have to be updated to accept gift cards?
I don't see a huge issue with this. I personally like the idea that devs can choose their method of choice.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium HD app
My problem with that is that i cant find a single app, movie, or song i can download with my play store balance. If there is NO devs that are going to accept gift cards as payment then Google needs to reimburse me for the money I already put out on their gift cards to download from their store which now seems to be completely void. If i knew i was going to be put in this position when i spent $150 on gift cards i would have never bought them. They claim on the card they are good for all purchases from the store apart from tangible products and when outside the US. I will be calling them tomorrow during business hours to bring this issue up.

I agree. When I got my N7, I had no problem using my $25. Seems fishy to me. It shouldn't matter if the money came from a gift card, green is green.
And I was just thinking about getting a gift card for the Play Store. After reading this though, maybe I should try something different.
Well now.. that is pretty retarded.

Hi, I know it's a bit late but I have just found a SOLUTION to this problem. You can solve this by creating another Gmail account and using the same payment method as this problem is not related to the the payment method but the account as I have found. Go into Settings>Accounts>Add Account>Google>New. Then create a new Google account which will work alongside your present Google account and NOT replace it. Go to the Play store and swipe right across the screen and you will see a drop down menu from your present Google account going into the Google account you just made. Use this new account to purchase the application. The application will be downloaded to your phone hopefully without your "payment method being declined" .
First I've heard of sellers even getting that opton. It's not on my developer console. How would the developer know anyway? The income isn't broken down by method of payment. nothing related on the merchant account either.
I suspect a glitch rather than anything deliberate.

App writers never see credit card information. Only the payment processor (in this case google) does.
