Anyone having problems connecting a bluetooth keyboard? - Nexus 7 General

I have a logitech keyboard for Android 3.0+. I've been having problems with it in that when it connects or disconnects it refreshes the screen or browser. Every once and a while a key will get stuck (not the physical key but on the software side) and repeat itself without me being able to stop it.
Here is a video of the problem: Bluetooth Keyboard Issue
I decided to try it on my phone (also running JellyBean) and it does the same thing. Anyone know if this is a known JellyBean issue or could it possibly be the bluetooth keyboard? Anyone using the logitech bluetooth keyboard for android and not having problems?

I have Logitech blue tooth keyboard(the one with the touch pad) and it does do bad things when it connects to my N7. It knocked me out of a movie that was playing, for example.

I tried my bluetooth headset on both my phone with JB and the N7 and they didn't cause this problem. I'm wondering if it's just a problem with how JB handles bluetooth input devices or if it is a problem with the keyboard. I kind of wish more people had this problem so it'd be easier to figure out

I'd say its pretty much certainly a JB issue.
Don't forget theres only a few JB devices at the moment, when it becomes more mainstream I think issues like this will be sorted.
I can't tell you more though sorry :/

Aside from layout issues, I have found my HP Touchpad keyboard to work flawlessly with my N7. Only bit of strangeness I have found, other than layout weirdness (I have a German QWERTZ model) is if I accidentally lean on the lock key too many times, it causes a reset of the tablet (which is almost expected when you think about the repeat rate of a keyboard vs the click & hold nature of the power button on the tablet).
For the record:
Rooted w/ CWM
Standard kernel
Standard 4.1.1 ROM

Using the same keyboard here. It does refresh once when connected but doesn't appear to refresh when disconnected. When I first got it it would double the first capitalized letter of a sentence but I fixed that by turning off auto capitalization. Other than that I've had no other issue and am actually happy with it. Other than trying a new set of batteries the only thing I can think of in your situation is that you might've have gotten an older firmware or hardware revision. Just for comparison, under the battery cover my P/N is Y-R0021 and Duracell batteries that came with it are dated 2011/11 (use by MAR 2018).
Is the single refresh when connected really that big of an issue? Just trying to understand.

At least for the repeating keys, I'd have to agree that it's a JB issue. I have the same keyboard and I occasionally get the key repeat issue on my phone with CM10. My son has a Microsoft keyboard and gets the key repeat issue much more often, also with CM10 but on a different phone.

4.2 is apparently a whole new can of worms -- Google and Broadcom rewrote the Bluetooth stack from scratch for 4.2, supposedly to improve performance and device support.

Have the same keyboard, to connect make sure the keyboard is off then turn on tablets Bluetooth then the keyboard, sometimes when it disconnects, it crashes the app your in, but many. That's just me

Keyboard lag

Hello I'm having some keyboard lag on my brand new device. It only picks up about 80% of my keystrokes on keyboard pro.
Any advice? I did a restore from my sgs2 settings.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk
think its a firmware issue. post your current 'about phone' specs.
Hi, I am in the process of updating it for the second time. I had two updates!!!
The first update I had was:
PDA KK9, Phone KK5, and CSC KK9
Now I just updated to:
PDA KL7, Phone KL7, and CSC KL7
Let's see how this works. I'll update again!
EDIT: It seems to have been fixed!
Hey guys. I just wanted to ask if anyone here uses smart keyboard pro. It only seems to be happening with this keyboard but it seems to be missing the keys I hit. Its rather annoying. I've tried a lot of other keyboards and I don't have the issue with them. But this is my favorite keyboard. I wrote the programmer a week ago and I imagine because of the holidays he's busy.
Does anyone else have this issue of the keyboard not picking up all the keys you hit?
Thanks.
Kent.

I have the same issue.
The ONLY major lag/slowdown I get with my Note is when I'm using the keyboard, ANY keyboard that is...
I've tried smart keyboard, swiftkey & even ice cream sandwich keyboard, all are slow and when typing the keyboard is slow, cannot keep up resulting in mistakes...
I'm running on 2.3.6 and stock rom/firmware...
Hopefully ICS will fix this issue.
Bump!
Strange why some users have this lag issue with the keyboard whilst others do not....
At the end of the day it's the SAME phone having the same hardware...
I'm on stock rom/firmware & I for one am experiencing lag with the keyboard which results in me having to type slowly otherwise mistakes occur.
If I try to type fast the keyboard is slow & cannot keep up.
I've read others having the same problem as well as others not having this at all.
Having said this, I've tried 4 different keyboards and all gave me lag, none were any better or worse than each other...
Same problem. I have compared it with desire hd - desire hd keyboard is WAY FASTER than Note keyboard.
Tried different STOCK rom's KL7, KL8, tried different kernels (abyss, 2.5, 2.6),
nothing helps. It's just slow - letters is not appearing at the moment you press, it's like a 0.1sec lag or smth, but it feels, it's hard to type without mistakes when keyboard is not working at the realtime )
BTW I had this issue and on Nexus S...
Any solution to fix this?
Try switching haptic feedback off.... it mit help... or try thumb keyboard.. lots of customizations and no lag on it

Same issue, Im facing this since a month now.. Its become very irritating to use the phone itself.. I used Sgs2 for 5 months and did not face a single keyboard lag and a better hardware mobile is making it a big glitch.. I chat a lot on whatsapp and this issue is very irritating now! I have tried several stock n custom roms, but after say half an hour of continuous usage, this keeps happening.
I also noticed that this issue increases when the phone is on charge. The touch just does not wanna take any inputs.. Need a solution for this ASAP!!

I have just solved the lag issue! It may or may not work for you but it's certainly worth a try.
Try ''Perfect Keyboard''
For me this was the ONLY keyboard out of EVERY other popular keyboard app that was smooth and responsive. On top of this it's very customizable, give it a try!
Other keyboards I've tried which were laggy include:
- Stock Samsung Note Keyboard
- Ice Cream Sandwich Keyboard
- SwiftKey Tablet X Keyboard
- Better Keyboard
So to those who find most keyboard replacement apps laggy, try Perfect Keyboard!!
Thanks man.. Ill give it a try for sure.. This has become very frustrating now, so Im game to try any smallest of the solutions to resolve this issue!!
None of market keyboards does not fix this issue. Had some similar problems with Nexus S and it was solved by tuning thresholds and noise cancellations for touch screen controller (in kernel).
Let's hope ICS will solve that.
I know.. I tried perfect keyboard as well.. After same issue in this also.. After a bit this is also becoming laggy..
Another weird thing Im facing is that my touch sensitivity specially when on the keyboard isnt working at all when I start charging my phone..
I was about to post a thread on Q & A regarding this and saw this this thread. I too have the lag issue and few people above me has described it quite well.
Im on XXLA6 Deodexed Stock, and I too have the same issue. Samsung Keypad, and the Go Keyboard both are the same.
Any solutions ?
Only thing I have found till now it to Calibrate and then use the keyboard again.. Helps most of the times or else reboot thw handset. No solution yet..

Lol same thing happened to me too. My keyboard lag as hell. Tried swift, swipe, stock and better keyboard. All of them seems cannot keep up. I disabled heptic, tone and still lag.

[Q] Touchscreen problems while plugged in

First of all, apologies if this question was already asked, I did not find anything...
Whilst trying out and comparing several ICS ROMs, I always encountered a problem:
Regardless of which ICS ROM or which kernel I run, when the phone is plugged into my computer, the touchscreen does weird things. It seems as if one touched the screen on several spots simultaniously, which is quite annoying, especially when typing...
On some ROMs/kernels, this problem seems to be less apparent, but it is always there.
Currently I am running ICS333 with mnics-LR kernel (23.05) but as I already mentioned, it does not really matter.
Can anyone confirm this problem and - more importantly - is there any way to fix this?

Usually those kind of problems are connected with bad quality DC power from USB. Bad filtration. Please connect your device to some other PC/laptop and check is it the same. If it is not then your computer is fault. To make sure connect your charger and check is it ok. Stock charger. If it weird too your mobile is damaged.
Of course this may be only one of reasons.
There is some problems with touchscreen when plugged.try calibrate your accelerometer.sometimes it helps sometimes it don't or try touchscreen booster from play store
I once had this problem. Then I changed a cable and it was fixed.
thank you all for your suggestions I'll try them when I get the chance...
for now I'll stick with ICS333 and semaphore kernel, it seems that with this combination, the problem is minimised to "nearly non-existent"

Want to go to Gingerbread!

Where can I find a stock Gingerbread ROM at? When I purchased my phone it already had ICS on it, and honestly I do not like it at all. I jumped to my favorite phone mod site (XDA) and did some searching but came up empty handed. Can anyone assist me with my request? Thanks!

Sorry. There are not any GB ROMs for the D4 that will work on ICS. The GB D4 ROMs there are are not compatible with the ICS kernel. Maybe if you can describe the issues you are having with ICS we can help you with those.

Mainly just nitpicking things, but the one thing I've had an issue with ICS is the fact that I cannot link notification and ringer volumes together.
Another issue I'm having is when typing using the hardware keyboard, I'll be typing something and the cursor will
jump and start typing at the beginning. Happened just as I was typing this reply, too.

That is odd stock ICS does not have the functionality to link notification and ringer volume. You should be able to find an app on the market that will give you this functionality. Found this on another forum with a quick google search: "Get cvolume from the market. Under settings you need to check notification volume not(Use incoming call volume for notifications). Works great" aarong03 - DroidForums
There are other volume control apps out there as well that may have similar functions. Try some out and let us know!
Not sure about the cursor jumping on you. It seems like I had this problem once too and it ended up being something I was doing that was causing it but I cannot think for the life of me what it was. Some button I was hitting or something.

Thanks for the information. I have tried many volume apps that claim to link the volumes together, but do not work. I basically just want to use my hardware volume buttons as a master volume control, so when I set it with the hardware buttons, nothing is higher. or lower than that volume. I had a Samsung captivate glide on att that was running GB and the app that I used on that phone did not work on my D4 for linking volume. I tried this cvolume app and it doesn't seem to be working either, even though the option to link them is set.

There is also a free version that just doesn't allow saving of profiles.

I've been using AudioGuru for profile selection, but I would much rather be able to dynamically change the volume of notifications and ringer together from the hardware buttons instead of set profiles with defined volume levels at each.
I have not found an app yet that works on this phone/ICS that works to lock both volumes together.
Perhaps I will just have to wait until JB is officially released for our phones. But I really liked GB on my previous phone, its too bad I can't get a ROM to work from ICS to GB, considering that the phone was originally released with GB.
Another thing I don't like about ICS is the stock messaging only let's you save a maximum of 1000 messages per contact. I would prefer messages never get automatically deleted, and in ICS it cannot be disabled, you can only change the max number of kept messages.
If you attempt to downgrade the phone to official GB there is a very high risk of bricking the phone.
I'd recommend you stop trying to do this and instead try to either get used to ICS or to replace the bits you don't like with some 3rd party apps.
I'm always having that cursor problem with the keyboard. Happens whenever I open up the keyboard and immediately start typing. Wait a second or two before typing, and it's usually ok. Seems the input editor is too slow to initialize itself, so it's still trying to set the cursor to column zero by the time you start typing...

There is no risk in downgrading to GB via SBF. No risk, because you will most certainly B R I C K your phone. So learn to live with it.
I too have some issues with ICS. The cursor jump happens to me too, and I hate it. I also have issues with BT volume control. Music is no problem, but controlling Youtube volume does not work for me. And when docked (lapdock or plain HDMI cable) volume also doesn't work. On or off, nothing in between.
But still, I think ICS runs much smoother than GB.

Yes you can (maybe) bring your phone back to life, but one thing that will definitely not happen is that Gingerbread ROM actually booting. The locked bootloader does not allow you to downgrade.
Do not even bother trying to downgrade it will waste your time and you may end up with a brick.

At least I know I am not the only one with the cursor jump issue. And yes, I notice it only happens to me when I open the keyboard and immediately start typing. I will have to start being patient and give it a few seconds before typing.
I've tried many different Volume apps, and even when locking volume settings are enabled, the volumes are not locked when I adjust it with the hardware volume rocker.
I did read that JB will be getting an official push to the D4, but they have not said when. ICS just doesn't set too well with me for some reason. Yes, it runs pretty smooth, but I don't like it's all black theme, some functionality that was left out, and the new widget being part of the app list doesn't always show new widgets immediately. I guess my biggest upset about it is that it seems rather... buggy or undeveloped. To me, GB seemed to be more developed and work the way you would come to expect an android OS to run now days, and ICS just isnt there yet. Hopefully JB will be better...

unless you borked your bootloader or had a hardware failure niko is right there is no way to hard brick your phone just by flashing roms/sbf's
as long as your bootloader is intact you are able to recover your device
All that said, there's no reason someone couldn't get a vanilla AOSP GB build working with the ICS kernel for use with safestrap. On the XDAndroid project we had a single Linux 3.5 kernel working for Froyo, GB, and ICS. It's not a slamdunk, but the amount of patching required isn't that bad.

[Q] Does CM10.1 (JB4.2.2) for Bionic have Dock Mode?

I just recently went from CM10 to CM10.1 (JB 4.2.2) on my Bionic and love it but noticed that when I insert it into the standard dock it doesn't sense it and go into a "Dock Mode". I am not sure if it's just my phone or not (I don't think so, it worked with CM10) and I am too new to post in the developers forum to let them know about it and it is still under development. Does anyone have any input how to get this to work and/or if you have access to post in the appropriate forum can you let them know about this?
I believe yes. if you go Setting>Display>Daydream you can get a clock or other options which can be triggered by the docks.

I found that and adjusted it and it still isn't triggered when docked. I booted back into stock ICS and CM10 (JB 4.1) and it seems to work then so I know it's not my phone. Are there any other settings to check?
I really love CM10.1 and really appreciate the work they do and know that it is still a work in progress but would like to submit it a bug report about it just so the dev's know. I would let them know myself but I can't post in that thread because I am a "noob" to this forum even though I have been using custom ROM's for a couple of years. Can someone help me out?

I've been struggling with this too. It doesn't seem to work in either the latest Kexec versions of CM10.1 or AOKP. I suspect it has to do with something still needing to be merged into the kernel. I've tried restoring the different dock component apks from ICS, but that doesnt' help either. I sent a tweet to Hashcode yesterday asking if he knows how to get it working, but he hasn't responded yet. I'll let you know when he does.
I would not worry too much about it. CM10.1 is still in the nightly phase so a lot of stuff will not work, and they know this. I am sure it will be working once we hit RC.
I'm pretty sure that Daydream is set up to trigger with the screen timeout. Myself, I have mine set to 2 minutes, and once I'm docked, it seems to be about 2 minutes later that Daydream turns itself on.

Ya, for the life of me I can't get anything to happen when I dock it. Hopefully they get this fixed on an upcoming nightly. I'd even donate to get this one done because I use it for an alarm clock everyday. The thing I am doing in the mean time is to set the daydream "when to daydream" setting to "while charging" and then manually turn on the app "Dock Clock" when hitting the hay. It's a good work around but was a lot easier when it just triggered when docked. Thanks again to the dev's! They rock!! :good:
This is one the main issues I have with cm10.1. While the daydream setting works OK for my bedside dock, there is no way to differentiate between that dock and my car dock. So I can't launch a custom car launcher when in my car.

Have you heard back from Hashcode yet about the dock thing? I keep flashing nightly's hoping it'll be working but it's still a no-go. Today's nightly looks like it's gonna have a lot of changes/additions so I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Same, that's why I haven't installed one of the custom ROMs on mine, because I love the lapdock functionality, which requires HDMI to be working. As far as I know, none of the non-Blur ROMs have working HDMI.
I love this ROM but I sure wish the dock stuff worked. I use my phone as an alarm clock on the dock and I switched over to liquidsmooth jellybean
yesterday to see if it's dock stuff worked (it doesn't). It was awesome but (even though the dock stuff doesn't work) until I got an FC for the clock when my alarm went off this morning so I am back.
On a separate note I installed yesterdays nightly and rebooted and my wifi was broken and i couldn't even turn it on so i reverted to the fixed version of the 3/27 nightly and was back in business. Hoping they get the dock up and going soon. :fingers-crossed:

So this may be a silly question, but is there any "light at the end of the tunnel" for Car dock mode in any of these JB ROMS?
We all thought that Root was unobtainable on the JB but that was proven wrong. Here's hoping that Car Dock mode is in the near future as its the one thing on my phone that i use consistently every day driving to and from work.

We all thought that Root was unobtainable on the JB but that was proven wrong. Here's hoping that Car Dock mode is in the near future as its the one thing on my phone that i use consistently every day driving to and from work.

Though I'm confused... is there something more "to" webtop/lapdock since the ICS version? AFAIK it's just leveraging the HDMI output for a higher resolution screen and attaching a USB keyboard/mouse. It hasn't been something "Special" since Gingerbread when it was Ubuntu based, right?

That confused me as well. I know there are some things like volume control that might not work (but I'm not sure they work on the stock JB ROM anyway) but people have modded all sorts of things to work with the lapdock (other phones, Raspberry Pi) by simply treating it as an HDMI display and a keybord/mouse. If a mod ROM even had that level of functionality I'd be happy with it, and I certainly don't expect a return of the original Ubuntu based webtop mode.
On a similar note, has anyone tried a mod while using the HD dock? That is supposed to do something similar, except I believe it comes with a remote control.

Droid 4 JellyBean...The Good, Bad, and the Ugly

So, now we have it. But we need to look at the new "issues" we're all facing. Because we're going to need some help.
The Good
We lost a lot of Blurr (thank ya Jesus!) We have a faster, better camera. A more optimized kernal for what seems like an OS with lighter thumbprint. Its fast! We can disable dozens of needlessly running apps/services. New gallery is beautiful.
The Bad
We lost the "Exit" button in the browser. Google+ is in everything with options defaulting to send anonymous usage and target ads based on our data. Auto sign-in/up is everywhere. Nova Launcher keeps getting killed by Android Battery life seems way off. Factory reset is pretty much a requirement. Clock app is super weird. Verizon bloat seems like an extra appendage that won't be amputated. Smart Actions is still broken.
The Ugly
The font is terrible. No amazing wallpapers added.
We have ALMOST a Nexus experience. What are you guys seeing with update, and what problems have you fixed? I'm super concerned that I can't "Exit" the browser. I don't like things running in memory.
I love the new update. I got it from the soak test early this week. I did not wipe first. My nova launcher has never been killed and phone is running perfectly for me since Tuesday. Love it!!!

I'm loving it. It's so fast and less bloatware. Browser can't "Exit" just like all JB roms on all devices. We also lost sleep mode on power menu. Good to see we still have mass storage usb mode. It's been removed in all Moto new lineups. This is the best ota update I've ever applied on my Android devices.
The Good & Ugly!

Just last evening I checked the System Updates on my unrooted Droid 4 and there it was! Upgraded it.
Project Butter lives upto the mark. Works smooth like butter.
Font, could've done better.
The ONLY UGLY issue am facing:
My data from the network is somehow locked, or in short, not working. Visited Vodafone gallery & they checked the settings, which were fine, but still the data is not working by the network.
NEED HELP!
Please, suggest me how I can make the data work on my Droid 4!
Please!
Currently my phone is technically paralyzed because of this issue!
Nova works fine with me too.

Vodafone is prepaid. Did you unlock the phone or buy it unlocked?

I have several friends and relatives with Droid 4's and RAZR's. These Jelly Bean updates have been hit or miss with results.
-One Droid 4 was a brand new phone with date code 03/13 and HW B. This phone received the update quickly and smoothly. Operation has been perfect.
-Another Droid 4 had date code 16/12 and HW A, never rooted or modded, update failed 3 times, left the phone soft bricked, had to be SBF'd back to ICS. The new update will just not play nice with this phone, so it will need to be replaced.
-A RAZR MAXX got this update smoothly and battery life has been great, no lags or hiccups.
-A regular RAZR got this update and battery life is horrible, the phone gets hot, wiping cache and data did not fix it. No prior issues with ICS.
I'm guessing that Motorola may have used different components in different batches and some just will not run properly.
the shift button on the physical keyboard likes to stop toggling occasionaly. rebooting the phone fixes it for a while.
when it stops toggling, you have to push [shift] and [1] to make a "!", instead of [shift] and then [1].
No tether apps seem to be working

The stock one works fine for me. I had to use SQL Lite to enable Wifi, but it seems to work, no problem.
Cheers,
Steve.

yes i noticed this too. it's a little annoying but i think there should be an update to the update coming out soon. right now id like to figure out how i can reflash with jb possibly using rsdlite as i did with ics but someone said flashing to ics now would brick my d4. im getting random reboots like once a day, but i think it may have something to do with my attempt at installing lbe which sent the phone into bootloop. so i want to clear it all and start from the top.. but how?

I heard others say the same thing. I've not noticed that yet.....yet

I also have the SHIFT issue. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I also have an issue with SMS. When I am sending a message the green arrow continually shows even though the message has already sent.

Matter of fact, I had the phone root'ed, stock tether enabled on ICS. Unrooted the phone to get the update to install and once upgraded to JB, my tether was still working, so the upgrade did not reset the value in the SQL database.
Works brill anyhow.

That is the most annoying bug there is for the JBupdate. Hope someone or MOT can fix this soon.

Weird - I'm pretty certain it had reset for me during the upgrade.
My D4 had the stock rom + the Google Now hacked into it, plus the latest version of Hashcode's CM10, which I'd been using steadily since the Bluetooth bugs were fixed. (Around two weeks ago.) On the stock ROM, I'd always had issues of the phone occasionally (often) going crazy with background processes or something where it would heat up quite a bit and the battery would drain quickly. I also had intermittent Bluetooth issues with my car connection, where it often wouldn't connect, requiring a reboot or toggling BT, and it would sometimes lose the connection after a call.
Running CM, it stayed cool and had much longer battery life, and BT worked much more reliably.
Removing the Google Now hack to install the JB update wasn't going smoothly, so I ended up just using RSDLite and wiping the phone completely then installing the JB update manually (it wasn't showing yet as an OTA.) It's definitely faster, BUT...
The Shift key often doesn't work correctly, as has been mentioned here
Bluetooth is wonky again and I have to tell it over and over to pair with my car
Mobile data just stopped working yesterday, even after rebooting, until I manually turned off and on mobile data
Battery life is atrocious; it has been getting hot a lot and I'm probably getting not much more than half the battery life that I got in CM. Looking in the Battery info, Screen is usually the biggest battery user, but I always have it either set to Auto or to a very dim display. Looking at CPU usage shows nothing obvious. It's common for the battery to get to 95-100' F or higher. Right now it's behaving and only at 72' F - it must know that I'm complaining about it.
I'm hoping that we'll soon see (if we haven't already; I haven't checked yet) a CM based on the new kernel, so we get everything working but with the better battery life and such. Video was the only issue that I was still seeing with it.

Have you checked, that you APN still is entered in the phone ? Upgrade from ICS to JB removed my manual APN entry. I just re-entered it and all working.

I wonder why they axed sleep mode, I used that a lot. Does CM or AOKP still have it?
Sent from my DROID4 using Tapatalk
I've noticed that I'm seeing 3G/H notification in the notification bar while connected on WiFi. It didn't do this in ICS. I wonder whether that's just a cosmetic change or whether it has an impact on battery life. I've not noticed the shift problem, but the Caps Lock light doesn't seem to work any more.
Cheers,
Steve
