So i am very much enjoying the N7 but somewhat missing the 3g on my old galaxy tab. Sure I can tether to a phone but i was wondering, is there any chance that plugging a 3g dongle into usb-otg cable will work on the n7?
Thx
I doubt it. I don't think there are drivers for the device to talk to an external 3g modem.
Look here.

Yes, I've seen some descriptions that say it is, in fact a USB host.
It would be very cool if that is indeed the case. I only wonder what's taking Samsung so long to release a simple dongle?
+1 I want this NOW! Plan to buy a 1.8" 250GB Samsung HDD and fill with movies etc for going on holiday etc.

Mobile media center. Now if only I can charge with the usb host adapter at the same time.
Any idea when this is coming?
Really looking forward to it.
Awesome, just picked up a Galaxy Tab off Craigslist.
Question? Do you think we could use with say a Sprint 3G USB dongle?

No but you could get a myfi or something like this.

But why not get a plan for it? What carrier is it?
Well it's a Sprint one. But I have a data card already and a Smartphone with a plan as well. Trying to see of I could use a dongle or somehow tether with Bluetooth. I may eventually get a pan with it.
I love it so far, very awesome in deed. Was my first experience with Android also. Beein using a Windows Treo Pro.

Sprint data card?
Well I meant a Sprint USB 3G dongle.
Has anyone tried anyhting like this?
Anyone got any news on this?
*bump* *bump*
Okay, the baove is mentioning the Hardware but i want to ask about the software since i couldn't recognize that there is anything in the setting related to enabling USB to GO
I dont think this will be available for the 7" first gen Galaxy tabs.
I use a Mogo mouse (Bluetooth) with my Tab - works fine. It charges in the expresscard slot in my laptop. I just ordered a USB-to-expresscard adapter...
My goal is to tap that Tab slot and make an adapter to power the expresscard adapter, thus enabling me to charge the Mogo mouse.

I don't know if I understood you right, but there's no power-out from GTS. Just a heads up!

If you try to connect a USB-dongel it would need drivers, and I don't think there is any android drivers for those.

He is using a Galaxy Note in the video but it seems easy right?
- HDMI to a monitor
- Bluetooth mouse
- Bluetooth keyboard
Seems like an awesome idea to me. Use the Nexus 4 as your mobile device when your outside of the house and when you come back home and need a desktop to work on just plug in your Nexus 4 and start. Finally PC free. One device to rule them all :victory:
Anyone else going to try this with the Nexus 4 when it comes out? I know I sure want to but I'm not sure if the Nexus 4 works with bluetooth mice the same way the Galaxy Note does Galaxy Nexus users would probably know.
I can confirm that the Galaxy Nexus works with a bluetooth mouse and keyboard. I have used my phone as a "desktop computer" when I was on a vacation.

Thank you for letting me know! :good:
Makes me really happy to hear that. I don't really need PC programs so I love the idea of using a smartphone as my one and only computer :highfive:
The Nexus 4 uses Slimport HDMI, according to the specifications it allows HDMI output and USB-otg at the same time!! This means there will be docks with HDMI out and several USB-ports (at least I hope there will be).
So you can connect a monitor USB keyboards, mice and harddrives all at the same time!
Edit: I might have gotten a little too exited and misinterpreted the data sheet.
Simultanious HDMI output and USB-otg might not be possible after all.

With miracast, charching orb and BT keyboard/mouse combo, you can do this totally wireless and cooler and pricy.
I would have thought a tablet would be better because of tablet-optimised apps. If you wanted to do office-type work, the tablet versions of office suites makes much better use of the screen real-estate.
You can achieve the same result with most 'modern' smartphones that support HDMI out. It's a neat little trick, I use it a lot with my tablet. I think someone above mentioned the tablet apps are better - and this is definitely true at my end. Far more suited to a telly.
So as this can be prescribed to pretty much any phone, I'll go ahead and close it here. Give it a shot though - definitely worth doing.
Just for curiosity's sake, Samsung have released a dock for the Note 2 to make the most out of this. Provides not only HDMI out, but also full-sized USB ports for peripherals and 3.5mm audio-out. I'm waiting for it to hit :good:

Hi all,
i would like to buy a tablet + keyboard + 3g but the old generation (tf300tg/tf300tl) seems to be no more available here in Italy (i just bought it on amazon.it but it came with the French localization, "azerty" keybord).
I'm wondering if someone ever managed to run an 3g dongle (USB) on the tf7001 (usb on keybord) . This seems to be possible on the tf700 with root and a specific app but i didn't find any info about the tf701.
any suggestion?
I think this device is too new to have some experience with this.
What you could do is search in the TF700 thread what software was used to make it work and test it yourself on your own TF701 after you bought it with a dongle and report here your findings.

3G works flawlessly with my Huawei E160 Dongle and the PPPWidget App. You can get it for free in the Play Store.
Or just use a MiFi like everyone else.

Well in the UK it is but seems to have been crested by three.
Everyone I know uses them. You can connect up to 5 devises simultaneously. Battery lasts 30 days on standby, 10 hours continous use. USB dongles are dead.

Outside of battery life is there any advantage to using one of these vs just tethering on my phone?

I added another I to your link, just to check. For some reason I was sure that You were talking about making your "M"obile phone active as W"ifi" access point, but this is a little different. Is there some speed gain in this version against making your phone act like WAP ?

Oops copy and paste fail
It creates a wirless hotspot - whilst connected to 4G - so you get very fast speeds. Also you don't need any drivers or for it to physically connected.

Yeah, but that's what my HTC One also does, as long as our provider does actually deliver 4G (does not work so well). Also here no drivers needed, anyway MiFi is not exactly what I thought, but I was close.
So why the dongle?

I have a Toshiba P745-S4320. It currently has a Intel Centrino 6250 wifi adapter in it. I would like to upgrade to a dual band. I would also like to go to an AC/b/g/n adapter as the rest of my network supports it. How do I find out if my laptop has its bios whitelisted? The official toshiba forums don't have much info that I could find.
In my google search seems some people have had luck getting AC adapters to work but most had issues for whatever reason.
any help would be great.. thanks.
Best to ask that here instead.

Hey everyone. I gotta say, the droid turbo is an incredible phone even without the promised 48 hour battery life. However, I can not find any info on support for MHL or not. I've got a pioneer radio (this one to be exact) that demands it and so far I can't get it to work. Any help/alternatives to MHL? Thanks.

When I looked for the spec everything I read kept referring to some form of casting or mirroring wirelessly. I am disappointed and pretty confident there is no MHL

I don't know about MHL, but it is compatible with WiDi, MiraCast and AllCast/AllShare.
Just turn on your WiFi then bring up the toggles from the notifications screen and you will see a Cast Screen option.

Yeah i knew that, but i don't know how to get the radio to communicate with my phone.
This is on Motorola site. Doesn't say what phone it works with but I would assume it would work with ours. Too bad it's out of stock for the $3 bucks they want I would have given it a shot.

Pretty sure that's for the older phones that had mini-HDMI ports on them.

I think it is too. Is there a way to stream to a chromecast without a network?
Any luck on this? I just recently bought a pioneer radio as well, and trying to do the same thing. I have everything connected, but it turbo doesn't play along. Have you made any progress with yours? Bought a new phone that does support mhl??

Droid Turbo doesn't support video out over a wired connection. Your best bet is to buy a Miracast dongle like the Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter or Belkin Miracast Adapter and an HDMI coupler (Female to Female).
Connect the coupler to the HDMI sticking out of the radion and connect the adapter to the coupler. You'll need to provide power the wireless adapter as well.
For the Pioneer radio set the settings to HDMI connection type for AppRadio Mode, pair the Bluetooth from phone the radio and go to your display settings on your phone and connect to the wireless adapter.
PM me if you need more help.
