Are there any UK resellers for the nook color? Any UK users with a nook color maybe who can advise me?
Looking at a 7" tablet/ereader as a gift, because I've left it (slightly) late I don't have time to wait for something to ship from the US
I've found one store (Purelygadgets.co.uk) but it's 1:1 £:$ and they've terrible reviews for customer service.
All advice appreciated!
I'm a little out of touch when it comes to imports, are there any importers for this type of thing?
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
other than purelygadgets, none that i know of other than occasional ebay.co.uk listings, usually from US sellers.
i used amazon.com (not co.uk), got it about two weeks back. there were about 8 sellers listed willing to ship to the UK. tried one first, when payment time came, got the message due to legal restrictions the item cannot be shipped to the UK.
almost gave up hope, then tried another, blueproton. and voila, it went through.
shipment was within a couple of hours. excellent work from their end. £221 in total, including Fedex postage. in all, 5 days, including weekend!
i was happy when i ordered my nc with the $50 coupon. i got my nc on friday and quickly unboxed it to charge. since then i've been getting more and more frustrated.
1) my nook color won't stay connected to my wifi. this is true even when next to the router. i have a couple laptops that have no issue, so i'm thinking it's the nook.
2) my touchscreen is unresponsive at times. Many times i try and tap on a button it doesn't do anything. i've used other nooks and this is not the case. i think mine is a dud.
so i call my local B&N to see what they can do. They say, no problem, bring it in! So i hop in my car and head over to the store.
I brought everything from the nook box, the shipping box, the packing slip, etc. After a bit of looking at the packign slip I was told that is was an "eBay purchase" and i'd have to handle it through eBay only. I asked to speak to the store manager, thinking maybe they were confused or something. The item was purchased on eBay but the seller was B&N.
They told me that eBay had purchased the nook and sold it to me, so i'd have to go to eBay to get any resolution. If you look at the packing slip it actually says sold to eBay, shipped to me. What is even more fun is that the serial number on the packing slip does not match the one on the nook! They said they have no way of tracking who got which one through the eBay promotion (not sure how that will shake out for warranty purposes).
I called another B&N in my area and got the same story. Aparenly corporate sent an email to all the stores warning them to not handle anything with the nooks that were purchased through eBay during this promotion.
I'm going through the process to get it returned to "eBay" meaning that i messaged B&N on eBay to get a return. Just wanted to warn people in case they have any troubles that the store will not assist. Any warranty may or may not be handled by B&N.... not really sure, but i don't plan on getting another one after this. The listing says they will respond monday-friday, so i have to see how it all shakes out then.
Anyway, just wanted people to know in case you have issues, the store may or may not help. None of them in my area will. I wanted to either return or exchange for another one. No dice. They said they'd handle it for warranty purposes, but to test I said "fine, service it for warranty then". they said i'd have to contact eBay.
That's unfortunate that you got a bad unit. My 199 Ebay NC has been working flawlessly. Just waiting on the MicroSD card to arrive so I can root mine.
Hope you get a satisfactory resolution soon!
It was stated on the purchase page. You should have read it ahead of time.
I returned my store bought NC today and have been using the ebay one all day. Works exactly the same. No issues. Before its rooted it does disconnect from wifi whe the screen shuts off. Pretty sure it's designed that way.
I confess to being surprised by this to a *point*. I didn't read those particulars on line but assumed B&N were the people I'd deal with even if not through the local store. Kind of odd that payment had to go through paypal - some other motivation at work there I'd imagine.
My packing slip does show sold to E-bay and shipped to me. But it also says in the top right corner "If you are not satisfied with your order you may return it within 14 days of the delivery date. For your convenience call 1-800-THE-BOOK for return authorization or return to your local B&N store with this receipt (check the local store refund policy for details)."
I'd try calling the 1800 number first and getting some info. It is *possible* that not all stores enforce the policy you describe. Hopefully the 800 number will get you a prompt solution. I - of course - voided my warrantee about 10 minutes after I got it out of the box but performance has been fine on the experimental froyo build.

Your local B&N store manager is a ****. If you want to push the matter with them, print out the policy online and show it to him, but he's already made up his mind - don't expect a piece of paper to change it. That's just how retail is - underpaid, overworked, and customers are the lowest form of life on the planet.
Try a different store, and be nice.
wifi connects fine, but disconnects while using...
Hi every one,
I also bought my NC from ebay. Funny thing about the WiFi. it connects to the internet if i am outside of my house (B&N, Starbucks etc). At home, i have a buffalo wirless router, with SSID hiden, mac filter and WPA/WPA2 mixed mode. Apparently it will not work in these setting. Need to broadcast your SSID, change from WPA/WPA2 mixed to WPA2-PSK mode. then finally it worked.
I have read quite a bit about this wifi issue all over other forums as well. There was even a person talking about changing the router seting from 11/n to 11 b/g and limiting the speed to 54 mbps rather than at 300.
About the Tech Support:
They are the most useless idiotic tech support ever. Instead of listening to what my problem is and attempting to trouble shoot they were following their protocol. That is typing the question in their database. i am surprised their database does not have a soultion to this problem. As this problem is reported all over the internet. And the product is in the market for almost 4 months. The rep first asked me to restart the NC, still no luck then restart the router still no luck. i finally hung the phone.
I got mine yesterday as well. I woke up this morning only to find "phantom touch" issue occurring when I tried to play around with it. It would not respond to any of my touches but decided to do things its own. I called the B&N support and they girl who answered said I have two options, give them my creditcard info and they'll send me another one before I ship back mine or I can send mine in and wait for them to send another. I asked if I could walk into a store to get it exchanged as it is more convenient, she said it is totally up to the store manager's discretion, however she said she'll help me leave a note on my account so I can reference that in the store.
I might head to a store tomorrow and see what happens.

If you are using a Buffalo router I assume it is using DD-WRT as its firmware. There has been a pretty widespread issue with NOOKcolors staying connected to routers running DD-WRT.
Hey the receipt says you can take it back to the store. Its from BN although it says it was sold to Ebay and shipped to me. whats the diff who it was sold to? They should honour the return policy in the store. I am happy with my unit but am going to the store to make sure there is nothing different from buying the unit from BN directly. Either ways I think the discount was specifically in place on ebay to discourage returns.

I have same issue, the wifi is not connected in public area, but it works fine at my home router ...
Any known fix for it ?
Interesting...
Well... I'm looking at my "receipt" (their word on the paper)...
The word "eBay" is nowhere on my "receipt". No parties other than Barnes and Noble and myself are listed on the receipt. However...
There are three text blocks under the "Barnes & Noble" header.
Block one:
"Sold To:
2145 HAMILTON AVENUE
SAN JOSE, CA 95125
UNITED STATES"
Yes, my receipt really does say the Nook was sold to a street address!
I'll guess that may be eBay's address in the first block but I don't know.
The text on the right side of the receipt does state the Nook can be returned within 14 days of the delivery date by calling 1-800-THE-BOOK for an RMA "or return to your local Barnes & Noble store with this receipt"
My eBay invoice page says the seller is "BarnesandNobleInc". The actual detail page for the eBay listing says the "coupon" for $50 off is from eBay. Nowhere on the page does it say the Nook is being purchased from eBay instead of B&N. Also of interest - the terms of the auction state the seller will accept returns within 14 days. The sales contract (the eBay listing) sets no restrictions on what returns will be accepted. (We'll come back to this point in a second.)
I checked the eBay seller link for BarnesandNobleInc -- it goes to the Barnes and Noble eBay store, run by Barnes & Noble.
There IS a note on the 'Returns' page of the Barnes & Noble eBay store:
"Returning NOOK
14 day returns on defective devices with receipt through the Barnes & Noble call center. Returns will not be accepted at retail locations. To request a return, please send us a message through eBay. We will respond to your request between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. EST Monday through Friday."
Remember the eBay listing (a contract between buyer and seller) says there is a 14 day return policy and provides no restrictions. The sales receipt also states "if you are not satisfied with your order, you may return it within 14 days of the delivery date" by RMA "or return to your local Barnes & Noble store with this receipt".
"if you are not satisfied" is not equivalent to "14 day returns on defective devices". 14 day returns on "defective devices" is the sort of guarantee a person may give on something refurbished (or that the seller knows is likely to be defective.)
The "NookColor User Guide", included on my Nook states, "Your NOOKcolor is backed by a one year manufacturer's warranty against defects in materials and workmanship." So B&N better plan to accept returns on defective devices for one year.
I am not a lawyer but I question Barnes & Noble's ability to revise the purchase agreement or terms of the warranty after the fact. (I should ask my cousin - he is a lawyer.)
That being said, unless my Nook suddenly breaks I'll be happily keeping it. I will however expect B&N to honor their promises and warranties in the event the Nook should break. So should y'all.
I also purchased from the barnesandnobleinc account using the coupon code. Mine has a bad pixel right in the center of the screen, so there's this tiny pale dot there no matter what is on the screen. I called the tech support number from the ebay listing, and spoke with a lady who had me power off and look at the screen in the light to be sure it wasn't an external scratch or pit. They took my credit card # and e-mailed an RMA numbers, shipping label, etc, before the phone call was even over. So I keep using it until the replacement arrives, and put it in the box and send it back pre-paid.
While I was disappointed by the bad pixel, I was very pleased with customer service. They took time to explain how to dissociate my account from it before returning, reminded me to back up any media files, etc. I had already assumed that returning an item purchased through ebay to a local store wouldn't go over well, but even after I began the phone call with "I bought an NC through B&N corporate ebay," they just looked up my Nook account, took the serial code, saw it was new, and were cooperative.
I hope that your problem gets solved. Perhaps take a deep breath and call the official tech support back?

you can check for a router firmware update that will fix this bug but other than that there isnt a work around
For those with wifi problems, it was a known problem that was fixed in firmware 1.1, so just download and install firmware 1.1 from B&N - you will see it in the release notes.
To Tekowalsky: thanks for doing a research and I would be interested to hear for your cousin's opinion.
IMO, the paper invoice included in the package beats any other 'provisions' they state at the Ebay listing. The contract of purchase was between us and the Barnes and Noble, not us and Ebay. I have looked closely at the EBay listing and never did it say Ebay is the seller except for the coupon that they provided. Barnes and Noble, of course, is entitled to have different return policy for it's web Ebay store operations but if they included paper invoice stating that the retail store should accept returns, they should honor it.

orly.. I think it's the opposite, DD-WRT works great with every device I've ever put on mine.
And besides, why would you assume Buffalo = DDWRT?
from Google and I appears I will be getting my N4 on Monday. But here's what is vexing.
Location Date Local Time Activity
Location
Louisville, KY, United States 11/16/2012 12:08 P.M. Origin Scan
United States 11/15/2012 7:33 P.M. Order Processed: Ready for UPS
Does this indicate that Google has a distribution center in Louisville? This would all be moot except for the fact that I live in Louisville and cannot live with the fact that my N4 in within miles of my home and I have to wait til Monday to get it. This is the ultimate tease.
Mine came from there too, as did N7. There is a UPS joint there.
There is an entire thread where this type of stuff is being talked about.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1989367
Edit: I'm not trying to be rude. The mods are closing threads like this all over these board as they are a mess.
I know that UPS is in Louisville. I used to unload aircraft out there. What I am confused about is that fact that the device appears to have been in Louisville to start with, as per the origin scan.
i ordered mine from tmobile and it is coming from there as well
I received one also from there I may try and pick it up early from the warehouse if it gets there any earlier.

This is typical for all shipments of most anything going by FedEx or UPS. They pick them up at the shippers facility haul them to the closest UPS or FedEX distribution/shipping facility which is the first place they get scanned..
Please use one of the existing threads for this discussion.
Thanks

To find out if there's still one last Chromecast on Best Buy's shelves near you, don't click on the "Check Shipping & Availability" link on the Chromecast page of BestBuy.com. Instead, click on Chromecast to get to the details, specs, and reviews page for the device. Then click on "Check Stores" under the "Store Pickup" option. It just might say In Store only. Then you could just pick them up yourself.
I went over to the local Best Buy yesterday and picked up a second one.
There is absolutely zero availability in Arizona. but i still got one playing with it now

I posted this in the other Best Buy availability thread but unfortunately clicking on the "check stores" link isn't always accurate. I checked to see if the store within 50 miles of me had any online and it said none available. I went to my local Best Buy anyway, it was a Friday at 8 PM and they had about 10 or 12 of them. I bought 2 in the store. The next day, they were all gone and I haven't seen any back since. So basically, it's just the luck of the draw sometimes. I got 2 from best Buy and 2 from the Play Store. I think I have enough for now.
