Hi
I recently bought a cheap OTG cable for my nexus s and is not being recognized by my phone. Please forgive me if this has already been a thread but I have just joined. I read somewhere that if you flash Matr1x kernel it will work successfully. However I will have to root it.
Does someone have another way to get it working or can you tell me how to root my phone in simple steps? Everything is appreciated
Many thanks
Sairas

Same issue here I'm rooted but on sock. I had to connect my SLR with NS but no luck so far.
Otg is not supported out of the box. It is required that you install a kernel that supports this feature. Search around and you'll find.
And yes you need to root and unlock bootloader, but once you start that, you won't recognise your phone any more good luck

For help, the forum is always there or just pm me

With the appropriate kernel it still wont work,
there is no kernel available with 5v output, you'll need to make a Y cable (or buy one)
I also wan to make it work.

The only method to make it work is to use a kernel that supports OTG and to use a Y-cable providing external power supply...

Hi I want to USB teather but it said that the kernel does not support it.
Any ideas or fixes for this. I'm using 2.3.5 and my pc is windows xp. Here's what it said the kernel needs.
This means that the Linux kernel on your device does not have the features (CONFIG_NETFILTER/CONFIG_IP_NF_IPTABLES and/or RNDIS) required for tethering. If you have an ADP G1, please read (or ADP16KernelUpdate if you're using Donut), otherwise you will need to find a firmware/kernel with these features.
lol doesn't mean nothing to me can anyone help.

Hey guys I got a question , I have a friend that rooted his droid 3, but when the update came out for it he went along and did it. Now the phone says its rooted but the computer won't read it. How do you fix this ?

He meant system version, not android version.
Anyway, assuming you're on 5.6.890, you can just reroot using 1clickroot
5.6.890.xt862 , so even though it says its rooted , just root it again ?

It could be a root issue but I would first ceck device manager on windows, try latest drivers, if that does now work go into recovery and turn on usb connection (I think its under advanced).

The main problem he's having is that the computer won't detect his phone.... I installed the drivers from Motorola and it didn't work....

Did you/he try the recovery thing? If all else fails then he could have to re flash the sys.

Sorry I did not see the post above me , Imma give that a try and see what happens

The 5.6.890 system update for some reason broke any no-name brand micro-USB cables from working with the Droid 3. Use the supplied one or buy one from Verizon or Motorola.

Same problem as the OP, tried all of the above. If I input the ADB DEVICES command, it output :
87897897897987 Offline
Can't get it to show as online or whatever the other state may be.
you could boot into the recovery options and flash the sbf using RSD.
I also have cheap blackberry MicroUSB cables bought on ebay that work just fine.
It seems simple but have you tried toggling usb debugging. I had the same issue until someone suggested that to me and worked like a charm. Toggle while unplugged then plug it.in

I haven't tried any of that but my friend is going bring his phone to me today so Imma give it all a try and let you guys know how it went.

still under construction. as of right now you have to build it yourself, although nrvate may be releasing something depending on how stable it can become.

Hey you need to get TWRP installed and then you should be good from there. Find the TWRP forum back a page then follow the instructions there. If you have never flashed a recovery before there are really good instructions in the CWMR thread. You might try flashing CWM first if you are a noob (I used CWMR for a while and it's a great recovery too) . Basically you need to get odin, and the adb drivers for your device. Turn your device off and put it in download mode (Power button and both volumes, then release power once it vibrates). Have odin ready with your custom recovery in the PDA slot. Once your device plugged in and in d/l mode odin will recognize it (if not you did something wrong).

Depends on what you mean by stable. While most features seemed to work okay, for me video play-back was horrible. Videos skipped and lagged. Since video playback is a major thing for me it's a deal breaker as it stands. I hope it in the future it gets fixed. Other than that though.. all was good with it
I don't know if its possible to use USB Tethering in my OB, I even tried to install some software for that but its not working, can anyone tell if there is a solution for that or it just cant do it ?
by the way am using stock Rom ,,, maybe that will help
I think with CM7 you should be able to use it, since it is built in.
no other way ?

There is ClockworkTether

Why dont you simply install some tether apps? Test them and tell us, if they worked, or not
There is a definite solution that I have found works on the xda forums called usb tether 3.4x or something. Google it on xda and u should find it.
I can confirm it works.

Maybe someone can upload here the lg software update apk ,maybe it will work.
1. What ROM are you currently on?
2. Are you still able to access recovery?

Its beacause of oxidation in usb cable that has on it speaker and power button,33 euros to fix even with root,go fix when u have the money, and avoid water when it rains, and use wifi sharing apps so that usb doesnt brake again.USBcable in p970 is problematic i guess.
I have the same problem , i tried to flash CM10.1 from ICS and my phone bricked . When i try to flash stock rom with smart flash tool the phone is not recognized , when i'm in s/w upgrade mode. do you think is a hardware problem ?

I think my problem is because of drops. I dropped this phone like 100 times. Still good. But yeah. Power button dead. Cannot connect as mass storage. Or anything else. But i can charge.

Squeeze the phone hard beside the camera and see if the button works while doing this. Basically squeeze where the USB port is.
