Need file browse - Nook Color General

is there like a folder path or file browser standard in the nook color? It seems really different from a regular PC or notebook. Whenever I test normal file browse code on the Nook, I just get "no files".

I'm not sure I'm getting you here. What are you trying to access?
"/" is the root of the filesystem. Typically you can only access this if you have a file explorer that has the capabilities. And even then you need to go into the options to access it.
"/sdcard" is normally where user stuff resides. Downloaded files, etc.
What are you trying to get to? A little more information may help.

Its in regards to Nook develop via Adobe Air. I use the FileReference.browse method to browser for a file and it works just fine on my PC and in testing environments but when I move it onto an actual nook, it doesn't work because when I click on the "browse option", it just gives me a "no files found" message. It doesn't even give me an option to browse the folders.

Beyond me, I haven't done anything code related in many many years. I looked up a bit on the method, and see conflicting information regarding having to specify file type before the browse method. Hopefully someone with more experience than me will be able to help.

I would post this question in the developer's forum but I don't have 10 posts yet.

Copy files to micro-SD via GUI - QtADB

Since I can't see this app mentioned already anywhere in this subforum I thought this might help someone out. I found an app which is a GUI front-end for ADB and allows you to copy files anywhere including /mnt/sdcard2 (the micro-SD card).
It works on Windows, Linux and MacOS and has a bunch of other features in addition to this. You need ADB working first to be able to use it.
http://qtadb.wordpress.com/features/
If it works as good as it looks it should be pretty handy. Been wanting to copy things to SD2 without pulling the card..
I just use Estrong exploer and use the LAN option. Search for your pc on the wifi lan, then drop any files you want to transfer into your shared folder (windows) and you can copy and then paste them on to SD2card from estrong explorer.

I feel kinda dumb.. I use the same Estrong file explorer over the lan and have just never even thought about SDcard2. Funny, I move stuff all the time between the tablet and PC. Sheesh! Maybe I am getting old!
QtADB has WLAN option too
since today new version is available
more details You can find on our website
Using 0.7.6 and it connects fine, but it wont list any files on the tablet. Am i missing something obvious? Debugging mode is on, 'adb devices' detects it.
It works with tablets so if file list is empty i think You dont have busybox. Read faq and about on our website
I have busybox and I followed the FAQ but still no files list. I'm sure i am just missing something simple.. I have emailed you a debug.log.
Edit: Sorted it out with help from 7ymekk. Awesome app

Cappy being crappy help!!!

Hey guys i have a problem with my cappy. When i plug the phone to the computer and i try to open the folder, the message pop out and it says "unable to open the script file".
I am running ICS 4.0.3
thanks.
bump! plz help...if you need any additional information about the problem i will try to explain the best i can.
right click the drive letter assigned to the phone.
chose expand or open, do not choose autorun
if it opens ok, you have an autorun problem with your drives. possibly a bug in your computer or you accidentally placed an autorun file on your phone card or both
Hey man i did what you said to do and it opens fine, but i cant get to open any folder i just get the message unable to open the script file when i double click on any folder on my phone, but i can open zip files . Is there any way i can find and delete this "autorun file".
Thanks
does the same procedure work on each folder in your phone? right click and choose expand or open?
If so, and there is no autorun file in the folders, then you have a bug in your computer. Start researching on how to scan and clean your computer. It is beyond the scope of this forum to get into that.
If there is an autorun in each folder on your phone, something put them there and they don't belong. Delete them using any file explorer app (root access file explorer might be necessary depending on where the file is located), see if they come back. If they come back when not connected to your computer, you have a bugged phone or a malfunctioning app. short answer in this case is to backup and wipe your phone. Backups may not be trustworthy either unless you find the culprit.
No way I can be more specific without having the phone in my hand, sorry.
Yes for the each folder is the same thing. I try to open it on different laptop and it does the same thing so it must be in the phone.
I will try to do that and see what happens. Thanks you man a lot.

Non existant file transfers only to "Download" folder. other folders are fine.

Non existant file transfers only to "Download" folder. other folders are fine.
Background: I used TWRP to completely wipe my Nexus 6. Through Windows I made a folder called "Download" and put my ROM and SuperSU in there which transferred fine. Installed ElementalX 3.0.
Now when I transfer files from my PC to the Download directory, I just get a moving bar and the files never actually transfer. I have only waited about 5 minutes then gave up. Once I cancel the transfer, Windows loses connection with the phone and I have to re-plug the USB cable in. The problem only occurs when I try to transfer to the Download directory. I can transfer files from my computer to any other folder of the phone with no problems. I also cannot delete the Download directory using Windows Explorer, and two file manager programs on the phone called File Manager, and ES Explorer. The Download directory also has two files, SuperSU and ElementalX, which cannot be deleted. It's not a major issue, but it's bugging me.
Oh, my Android skill level is novice wannabe so be gentle with the big fancy words. However, after a few short hours of owning the phone I did figure out how to ROOT and install a custom ROM, so I ain't totally stupid - just mostly.
check the file permissions on those files and the folder, ES Explorer can likely do that I don't use ES but I know its well featured. Its the only thing I could think of off the top of my head.

Reboot into recovery. Go to advanced, file manager. Browse to that Downloads folder, hit select, then choose delete.
Should get rid of it for you.
I'm assuming that you made the Downloads folder originally through TWRP while it was connected as an MTP device? If so, sometimes it can do weird things while in recovery. While the MTP driver works in TWRP, it's not extremely mature and is really just there as a convenience for folks that aren't comfortable with the standard command line stuff.

Thanks man. That sorta worked. There was a section in ES where I could change all permissions to RW. I don't know if that effected things but after I did that I renamed the Download folder to Downloads with an 's'. I was able to recreate another Download directory and now I can download stuff from the net as I wasn't able to with the old Download directory. This seemed like a patch but at least things were better. However, I then read Yoinx's post and it worked and complete got rid of the bad folder.

You sir are a bloody genius. Worked like a charm.
I am going to explain this as well as I can. When I wiped everything with TWRP (I didn't mean to. It was just a noob mistake) I was no longer able to see my phone's files on my computer. If I am not mistaken, it did show the phone hooked up, but no files, or even "internal storage" were showing - I could be wrong. I needed to copy SuperSU and the ElementalX ROM from my computer to my phone but I was screwed. I fiddled about in TWRP, and I believe it was under "Mount" where I was able to check/tick all the folders that were unchecked. I am assuming since they were unchecked, Windows could not see the files on my phone. After checking/ticking the folders, I hooked the phone up to the PC and the N6 showed up. I made the Download directory in Windows and copied the ROM and SuperSU that way.
Also, I don't even know what an MTP device is. Maybe I did what you said as I was sort of clicking here and there to see if this or that would work. I was in semi panic mode so I don't remember every single thing I did. Anyways brother thank you so much for your help. Here's some nice delicious Hawaiian pineapple for ya. how do I drag a hidden file from my N6 (or any Android phone) to my computer?

This question is not really N6 specific. It could be for any rooted Android device... It's just that I have an N6 and I don't know where else on XDA to ask it
N6 running great, rooted, final stock ROM they issued...
Mine has a hidden file (a Barnes and Noble Nook book) that is only discoverable using a root file explorer. Which I have, and I found the file I want to drag to my desktop. So far so good.
BUT
How do I drag that file over to my desktop? Android File Transfer (I'm on a Mac), doesn't see all of the file structure and definitely not hidden files, (unless I can change something in configuration). I've tried middle manning it by moving it to Drive or attaching it to an email and mailing it to myself, but each time I try, "Root Browser" crashes.
So in short, I need root to find this file. I have root and I found the file. All I need to do is to take a copy of the file (it's a data file not a system file). But I don't know how to.

There are a number of ways, but you may end up disappointed in the end. Your book is likely protected by DRM, so even if you copy the file, you can't open it.
Here is one of the many ways to copy:
Install a terminal app on your phone. I use JuiceSSH, but there are many others.
You'll need the path to your file. It might be something like /sdcard/barnesnoble/book.pdf.
If the file requires root to read, first write su <enter>
Then use cp to copy:
cp <from path> <to path> <enter>
For to path, use /sdcard/
Once copied, it should be visible on your computer.

compressing file on Windows

I don't think that's too big to post without compressing -- just attach the file.
Are you using Windows on your PC?
Did you copy "recovery.log" to your PC?
Did you look at "recovery.log" in a text editor?

When I asked those questions, I had no interest in seeing the log file. I wanted to pursue what I thought were strange problems doing something that should have been simple.
Spiralling out from the middle, I didn't understand the "file not found, or no read permission". I wanted to pin down whether Windows Explorer was manipulating a file on your phone, which might (although I don't know why) explain the problem.
I asked about you looking at the file just to get confirmation that you had succeeded in copying the file to your PC.
Maybe it has something to do with where you put the file. The context menu option to compress a file is convenient, but gives me no control. (I think it was quite nice in Windows XP; not so nice in Windows 8 or 10.)
The way I remember it, you select the files, but you can't tell it where to put the ZIP file. Maybe the way you copied the file from phone to PC had enough privilege to put it where you put it, but later, in Windows Explorer, you did not have enough privilege to put the ZIP file in the same directory. (And maybe the error message is less than accurate, and it is not "Read" privilege that is lacking.)
If you want to pursue the ability to make ZIP files:
move the file somewhere else and try again. I don't know exactly where you put it the first time, so I can't suggest a clearly different and safer choice. I would think that the personal directory Windows wished on you (maybe C:\Users\Aquiladroid) would be safe.
Look into 7zip: There's a free version. It has both Windows GUI and command line "apps".
{Mod edit: Quoted post has been deleted}
This thread was a sidebar to another thread, to avoid cluttering the other thread with material I thought was off-topic.
You do not describe your 7 GB file, or what you consider "not very effective". Not all files compress "well" (to me, large reduction in size). I expect 7zip has options to control the trade-off between time spent compressing, and amount of compression achieved.
You should start a new thread, asking for advice. There are a lot of people who will notice a new thread, but who do not "watch" this thread.
