Do you exploit glitches in video games? - Off-topic

Funny i'm asking this in XDA, but I had this argument with a couple of friends and well, they think that exploiting minor glitches in video games is wrong, though I think its nice to have a small boost sometimes!

It depends. If you're using glitches to do stuff you can't normally do when offline then that's fun. If you're doing it online then you're a loser who needs a life. The only people who think it's okay to cheat online are other losers who also need to get a life.

You live in the same world as me, i have a 2 ghz dual core and 2 gig of ram. Always have to pick lowest quality but windows 8 was a huge performance boost to it.

Not on my PS3 (not that I really play online often but I still feel like it cheapens the "achievements" ).
However I will on the emulators I play on my phone since the control scheme already puts me at a disadvantage and I'm not playing games on my phone for anything other a quick break from everything while I'm waiting on line or something like that.

Nah, really I'm not missing out. I have played both platforms online and PS3 is my preferred choice. I'm the opposite of you - I've had a PS3 since release day, but am on my 3rd Xbox which I only got cos it was so cheap. I get them and then regret it and sell them normally. I'll keep it this time though, just for the exclusives.
Personally, I prefer an online experience where you don't have spoilt little brats calling you ever racist or homophobic slur they can think of. And I'd rather not listen to someone else's favourite dubstep track while trying to play a game. There's certainly a lot more Xbox users (kids always buy the cheaper console), but that's not really relevant when the first thing you do is mute every single one of them.

Depends on if I'm playing for money

Word and word. I would like if a few more people had mics on PS3 to call in movement in BF3, but the spot function works well enough that my K/D stays positive and my team usually wins. I'll deal with that sacrifice if it means no little turds flapping their gums and not having to pay another $30 a month on top of internet costs. PS3 controller fits my hands better as well, but that's just nitpicking.

iPad + Nexus One

okay so i just watched this review on the ipad
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Luj263H_56A
and i have to say wow..until today i was thinking of it as the most useless gadget ever, but man i WANT IT!...the thought of wifi tether on my nexus one and the ipad is amazing to me..somebody please convince me not to get it :/ its soo nice though damn you apple and your sleek products
Sent off to "Off Topic"
oh boo you suck thats my first moved thread lol
You have to conform to Apple's way of seeing things until (or if) there is a way to jailbreak it (Geohot's untethered jailbreak is not yet proven to work on iPad). That should calm you for a while.
And you will have to pay for future updates it seems. Check this.
But! Could also be an April joke, can't be sure these days But you want to be cooled off, just assume it's true!
What's the point of buying a retarted ipad ?
It can't do anything, it's just a simple touchscreen device & that's all. They only advertise that iPad can
read your emails,
play dx7 games
store 64gb data
read ebooks
listen to music
Well my old P3 550mhz laptop with a Wi-fi card can do more than ipad can.
"play dx7 games"
?? dx7 as in directX 7 ? doubt it ms never ported directx to any other os
I know dx wasnt ported to another os, i was referring to the 3d game texture quality, the ipad and iphone games are just simple dx7 quality games.
I'd rather have a netbook then a slate PC, I really wouldn't pay that much for nothing more then a large iPod touch...
and guess what I can get a 32gb card now and it's miles cheaper!
@Sem nice to see you here
But I agree I mean Windows mobile 7 has a really nice engine for 3D I'd say that would be on par with PSP/PS2 the iPhail would be more PS1 lol

Le sigh. You're calling a product retarded because it's not designed to do what you want it to do, but has the potential. If I shove bread in to a VCR it has the potential to make toast, but it's not designed to do that.
Exaggeration ftw!
Not a fanboy lol
I don't really like apple, but a lot of people are just fooling themselves to think that this will fail. . .Remember all of the people who said the iPhone would fail?
Apple makes pretty premium quality stuff that looks nice, come on now, don't tell me you didn't like the iPhone design? I do like how apple makes things look really premium. The iPad? Now that will bring some pretty cool competition later.
It gets annoying when lots of people talk trash and stuff, its a gadget, not a club lol. Get over it. I love all the three evils. . . WM, Android, and the iPhone(to a limited extent, douchebaggery is not included lol). Once this thing gets cracked and hacked, then we will see some cool things.
People you have to understand that apple, is all about the consumer, not people like us. They will always tend to the idiots.
And to the "my old P3 550mhz laptop with a Wi-fi card can do more than ipad can.". Wow you really don't see all the developers lining up one by one to develop for apple?
I agree, Adrian. Just because it doesn't suit you doesn't mean its a failure or useless. it won't fail because of a dedicated consumer base, which microsoft doesn't really inspire..I don't own a boat and have never seen the need for a boat, but, lots of folks own them and love them. And tito, consumer doesn't equal idiot. Every time you purchase something, you are a consumer.

Just reply to my conclusions about a P3 550mhz laptop vs iPad before you give nonsense examples. Btw you can install much more apps to any windows machine than a retarded ipad. If you don't agree, then make some research and try to clean the illusion of the apple make-up on your mind.

A P3 550mhz Laptop can install what ever it wants, but everything will run like crap and it will be a horrible experience.
On topic, why would you want to buy something that to really be useful you would have to jailbreak? It's like buying a six cylinder mustang, just so you could put the eight cylinder motor in it: just buy the V-8...Apple is all about controlling every facet of their products, why pay for someone else to tell you what you should and should not be able to do with something that is yours?

Is beyond me how some people compare a pentium 3 to an iPad to prove a point.
I own an iPod and a nexus one.
Not my Dell xps, MacBook pro, or my old hp mini compares to the experience the iPad provides.
The whole experience is feels like 2010. This is truly the future and people being hard headed towards the fact that apple have another winner on their hands really need to get their heads out of their ass and judge the product accordingly not following the hate apple trend.
I am enjoying the he'll out of my iPad i don't miss flash. I been using computers for over 15 years and I never was a flash power user.
The abc, netflix and clicker web app can provide you with anything you want to view without the need for flash.
And hulu is coming to the iPad. People are riding the flash bandwagon but it's been proven adobe stood still on that technology for too long.
HTML5 like the iPad is the future.
For me is going to be apple computers and android for phone.
It gets no better. You get to experience both worlds. The apps on the iPad are polished our beloved android is still in infancy in terms of app development.
Stop hating on the iPad people it is an amazing device. And tethering with android is awesome

The 3ds is gonna get pwned when the ngp comes out!!!

Sony NGP:
2GHz Quad-Core Processor
Graphics as good as PS3
Android-Based
3G
Google Android Market
OLED Touchscreen
Two Analog Sticks
Touch Sensitive Panels on the back
Man's Device
Killzone 3
Uncharted
Nintendo 3DS:
3D hurts eyes
Crap Graphics
Meant for little kiddies
So, the NGP pwns. When it comes out the 3DS sales will go right down... What one do you think is better??

Banned because yes specs wise it wins, but theres other things involved. Look at the PS3, it easily outspecs the Wii and 360, but only recently has it become super popular compared to the other two. If Sony doesn't market the NGP it will fail.

I don't see that happening for a while yet, at least a decade.
Folk wisdom in the 80s used to be that due to the versatility and power of personal computers, dedicated gaming consoles were dead after the '84 crash.
Look how well that turned out.
I see the dedicated handheld market slowly plodding along towards digital distribution, similar to computer and console gaming but the mechanics and process won't be the same.
Dedicated portable gaming market will die when battery technology is sufficient enough that spending any serious amount of time gaming on our cellphones, especially resource and network intensive games, won't require us to have a charger or spare battery nearby.

That would just make it a ultimate device (which my rom tries to achieve ), just throw in fb and twitter and your all good. Then vita will own ALL the handheld market

I do agree that smart phones are quickly gaining ground on dedicated handheld gaming machines, but even as smart phone technology improves, so does technology behind dedicated gaming devices. The difference is that in order for smart phones to remain in competition with gaming devices, they need multiple hardware and software upgrades before the next handheld gaming generation releases. I'm not so sure the handheld gaming market will be phased out entirely.
I think once an elegant way to figure out how to add good analog controls to a phone is found the stand alone market will be further eroded. Xperia PLAY is a step in the right direction but is somewhat half-baked.

Actually it is, an Android phone. There is already a version of the PSP known as the Xperia Play.
If the phone has 3G, an ATT sim card, and a microphone, then why do you all think some industrious developer won't just plug in the sim from one of his actual phone accounts and dev an app that allows you to make phone calls?
Just sayin.
As to holding a phone up to your face, haven't you heard of a bluetooth headset?

Netflix pissing me off. Nintendo 3DS, sure. Xoom? Nope

Netflix now has an app for the Nintendo 3DS, yet we can't get one for these Tetra 2 powerhouses. Hell, it works on my Nook!
Its really annoying. I cancelled my account.
If you have an account, please call and ask about it. The more people complain, the more likely they are to make the fix.
Ill restart my subscription if they get it going, but for now, Netflix has lost a customer.
Has anyone heard if/when they are going to step up?
I have to admit that I am surprised that nvidia isn't screaming at them.
i just got my own account the other day, i've been piggybacking off of others for like a year and a half. I can't wait to have it on my xoom so I can just plug it into my living room TV instead of lugging one of my consoles out there, but I can wait.

And its not like the doesn't work on the zoom, they just disabled the streaming portion. It took them almost a year after the HTC evolution came to even release an android client, no telling how long for a tablet version.
Yeah no kidding Netflix should be a given on such power full tablets I just don't get it

Haha I do have Netflix on my 3DS right now!
But for my Xoom, nah not possible yet, I hear ya OP. But the 3DS is Nintendo. The Wii is one of the consoles that Netflix fully supports, and if you look at the 3DS version, it's basically the same app ported over from the Wii to the smaller portable 3DS screen.
Nintendo and Netflix have a console+steaming service relationship. They will always officially support each other, no matter what. This is not the case with Android. Not fully and completely supported, not just yet anyways.
We will see full Android support for Netflix in due time. Maybe when Ice cream sandwich makes its debut, who knows. All new tablets and phones will run the same exact OS, making it pretty easy to fully support all devices without a problem. That's what I believe they are looking to do. Makes perfect sense.
The is one of the worst consoles ever. My kids wont even play it, thed rather play angry birds on my phone/tablet. Just email netflix ever day about the xoom...bug the crap out of them

That would be nice, if they listed an email address or had a form to submit. Their customer service contact page only shows a phone number. But, I did just call and had a refreshingly frank discussion with the rep who answered my call. He said they were actively working on it and the issue was related to meeting studios' requirements for DRM in Honeycomb tablets. He was aware of the discussions here and on the other Xoom forum and he even said that some users had been able to change settings to make it work (he wasn't specific, but I presume he meant the build.prop device ID or something like that). I'm still running stock, so I told him this wasn't an option but I thanked him for his candor. He said it was definitely in development, but was unable to provide a timeframe.
I have to admit that his knowledge of the issue and his apparent honesty have me satisfied for the moment and willing to wait a while longer.

This whole thing with neflix cracked me up. I always thought their streaming selection was pretty weak, I only wanted the dvd's as the last rental place in my town went out of business. So I dropped the streaming part, kept the dvd's and saved $2 bucks. To add to that, I always end up using www.crackle.com as it's free and has lots of good movies and shows. It'll also work on the Xoom browser and on my ps3. Netflix screwed up, greedy company is greedy!

Crackle looks interesting but I can't use it without an almost immediate FC on my stock browser. And keeping a pc running at home while I travel, just so I can run a third party streamer, seems unnecessary. I, for 1, am willing to wait a bit longer... (at least until I find something better)

Playon has to be the biggest piece of crap, you can't even rewind with that or skip forward while playing Netflix, also if viewing Netflix thru playon it wont remember your position if you stop and resume later, splashtop is way better. I've paid for playon for a whole year and am so upset with their product

Sony PS Vita is horrible.

Now I say that but I really can't put my finger on why I think it sucks. I used mine for three days then returned it. I was annoyed with lack of battery life, I thought the games were similar to psp games. Holding it was odd and the screen was sub par to samsung's amoled. I was so excited to love this thing, oh well I'm done venting.
This doesn't surprise me. Their portable playstation line has never been as great as I hoped it would be. The same goes for their smartphones for that matter. Always look awesome before release, but then not so great afterwards.

Sucks doesn't it? Quad core bla bla bla and bam crap with everything propriety. Sony might be headed towards that slow RIM type slop to bankruptcy.

I dunno. I hadn't serious looked at their phones before but considering that they communicate with devs and what-not and actually release beta roms I have been scoping them out a bit. Not quite ready to jump ship, but we'll see what happens.

Matter of taste. Love my psp i use it way more then my ds. And what model vita 3g wifi? Settings? Games? You gave no real info on why it sucks other then you thought it sucks. Its neginning library is going to suck thats how its always been with ps. Ps1 had no good launch games, ps2 didnt really have any, psp didn't have any and ps3 didn't have any so you based your hole experience off of three days when so far it looks like it only has one good game (uncharted)?
Not trying to sound like a jerk but really? Haven't got it yet and it will be sometime before i get one but yeah not ready to jump on board it sucks for no reason train just yet.

Its a shame that you have only given it 3 days.. everyone knows that newly released gaming platforms are quite unutilised in the early stages.
I dont think it will be long before games companies will really start to take advantage of the vita capabilities and we will see some exciting games
You people and your biased minds.....
Sold my PSP2000 for a Vita and am loving it .

Best game I've ever had on the PS3, for both visuals and playability, came out on launch day and was indeed the first game I ever played on it - Motorstorm. Like you said - matter of taste.
Sorry, but your an idiot! You gave it 3 days and you think its crap? very bad....
please keep your smartphone for gaming like a nerd and leave the PS Vita alone...
better for us.
I bought it on day 1, and im absolutely surprised and i Love it soooo much!
Much more than any other console i had.
THIS DEVICE IS A BEAST! Just wait for good Games like Kingdom Hearts, god of War, Gta, ect.

You need to calm down its just an opinion. If your OK with mediocracy then rock on.

Honestly don't think many gaming companies will jump on the Vita.
Smart phones and consoles is where the money is at.

I bought the PSP 2000 near release and absolutely loved it. I installed a custom firmware so I could play emulators (which was great), watch YouTube, etc. It was probably some of the best $$$ I had ever spent, because I used it for years.
I do not play on purchasing the PSP Vita, though. I don't think it'll be a failure or anything, I just don't see the need of it. I do all my on-the-go gaming on my phone. I know there is no "hardcore" games like Uncharted or anything, but more casual on-the-go fun games is what I favor.
Just my personal opinion, though.
I haven't come to a conclusion yet. It doesn't feel like the PSP when I'm holding it. I think that's throwing me off more than anything.
Currently playing Uncharted.
I am loving mine, I had a PSP-1000. I got mine fully updated to 2.00, way back when. I knew I was going to get the Vita when I saw the first trailer for it. I bought it thinking it was all ready a month or two old in the states, but oh well. I am looking forward to the Gravity Rush game looks awesome! I don't have uncharted but I am not a big Playstation guy, so I am new to the series. Worth getting? It just likes like a Prince of Persia like game.
I bought my PS3 the month it was released.I think it cost me some 600€.Back then I was like 12 or 13 years old,so it was money collected through the course of a whole year.I was really disappointed at first.Fast forwarding to February 28th of 2012,these 600€ are my best spent money, along with the 500€ I parted with for my Galaxy S 2,which too disappointed me at first, only to amaze me thrice as much afterwards. As Azrienoch says, that's the moral of the news!Don't judge any device from your first impressions with it.It's likely to be a wrong impression, because it's something different than what you're used to.Just a friendly word of advice.
Still,I'm waiting to see whether it'll fare well with remote play from the PS3.If I can play my PS3 games on it through wifi/etc,I'm sold.(checks wallet...)Well,maybe not yet.
It is a great device. The launch lineup is also very good, I think the best launch lineup ever. My only complain is the mediocre browser and lack of folders in the menus.
