Nexus One stuck on the bootup "X" screen - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
my nexus one is stuck on the boot up screen at the "X" logo.
I did find many threads with the similar issue and did try a couple of things and will try to give answers to the freq asked questions on similar threads..
+ Phone did not have any physical damage, was on charging when it got stuck. removed the battery and tried to reboot since then it just does not move past the "X" logo.
+ Phone is as was shipped out of the box 2.5yrs back, have only installed OTA updates from Google till date.
+ Recovery option from the bootloader is no good as it reboots the phone and it again gets stuck at the same logo. (with and without the sdcard)
+ Tried the PASSIMG solution by downloading the FRG83 and placing it at the root level of the sdcard, rebooting into bootloader but it just gets stuck at loading the PASSIMG.zip file (left it on for at least a couple of hours)
+ since i cannot boot up the phone, i cannot enable "usb debugging" and it wasnt enabled before.
+ here's what i get at the top of the screen when i jump into the bootloader (haven't unlocked it, the phone is completely stock)4

I tried the solution out and contacted OP on that thread, got the files.
Seems unlocking the bootloader was also mandatory for that to work (or at least in my case had to do that)
While flashing the radio.img it just gets stuck for hours.. i presume that i need to again root access to the phone as well.
For this I used the solution here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1019759) but the moment i jump into recovery the system hangs up on the boot up screen itself.
is there some other way to root the phone when it is not in a working state (using fastboot only) or am I doing something wrong here?
-thanks.

Is my G1 bricked?

Hi all,
I was trying to update to CM 4.2.3, so first I wiped, then installed the regular ole android 1.6 image from Google, it goes to reboot and all seems fine. However, in the boot process it gets past the "T-Mobile G1" screen and then it just stayed at the flashing Android screen for several hours, I finally gave up on it and pulled the battery. Now if I boot normally it will go to G1 screen then to flashing android then NOTHING, the screen is still on but its all black. If I try booting with power+home I get a picture of an exclamation point in a triangle and a phone laying next to it. If I boot with power+camera it says
"DREA100 PVT 32B
HBOOT-0.95.3000
CPLD-4
RADIO-2.22.19.26I
Oct 20 2008
Serial0"
and there's 3 androids at the bottom on skateboard.
I don't what to do, except call Tmo and hope theyll send me a new one. I'm without phone so feeling particularly helpless
EDIT: I did alt-w at the screen with the exclamation point and the phone, it did something, now I'm running 1.6. PHEW, that was a close one
Note, you are never bricked if you can get to the fastboot or recovery screen.

[Q] Universal Androot on stock 2.2 to 2.2.1 problems HELP!

I was using Universal Androot on stock 2.2. The 2.2.1 OTA came through and after ignoring it for a few days, I accidently installed it. Now I can't unroot with Universal Androot, keeps saying "Failed! You still have the power, my lord.."
Now things like Rom manager do not work i tryed to restore to my 2.2 backup i made on rom manager before updating to 2.2.1 but nothings happen i tryed to flash the recovery, reboot into recover, fix permissions but it keep saying ''An error occurred while attempting to run privileged commands!'' , and the SuperOneClick won't get past "waiting for device..."
Any way to fix this without completely wiping the phone?
I have this problem also. its driving me nuts. Wiping the phone wont help. ive tried. looks like the latest OTA update patched the one click unrooting of my nexus one. I installed it a month ago unknowingly. now i want to unroot it, but cant. when I hold my volume down and power on, i get to some settings that read...

I assume these are fastboot settings.
when i hit the volume down button and select recovery, it reboots with a normal nexus startup screen for a second with a lock icon and then goes to a screen with a little android guy in the middle and a exclamation point. does it not know what to do? what exactly is supposed to happen?

[Q] No Recovery + Bootloop + hboot 1.47.000 + S-ON

Ok... I'm having quite an issue here and i'm not sure what to do next. I've been looking over the forums and I cant seem to find anything that helps.
I have a Sprint HTC Hero CDMA. The device just hangs at the white HTC screen when booted normally.
When booting into recovery, the only option is to delete user data.
I've tried flashing with hboot, I've tried using RUU's.. I cant seem to get anything to get this phone to boot.

**Additional Notes**
This phone does not boot. So anything required to be done from within android will not work.
ADB does not connect.
Fastboot - REMOTE NOT ALLOW.
I'm about ready to pull my hair out. Anyone able to offer any help?
I'm assuming you've tried deleting user data?
You've tried ruuing with a HERCIMG.zip? (http://www.mediafire.com/?m6x4sr682ruk027)
And after all that it's just looping?
So since ADB isn't connecting, you can't run a logcat to see where it might be hanging?
I probably can't offer much help and late Friday night is a quite time here.
Yes.. have tried deleting user data.. and have flashed several of those packages. I'll try the one you posted and see.

That's from this post if you are wondering
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9944755&postcount=9
Installed that manually from hboot by moving it to sd, renaming it, and updating. It went through the whole update, said it completed, rebooted.. and same as always.. sitting at a white screen with HTC in green.

Sounds like it's bricked to me. I don't know what else to tell you, sorry.
are u sure not pressing home+back instead of home+power because thatll go to clear storage and it drives me crazy because i always do it by accident due to big thumbs lol
Me agrees with Bierce, you also can try volume down+power then press home to get to recovery that way. Alternative install htc sync and D/l an ruu from htc site connect phone and start the process all over .I know it's long but the eng-spl is reversible when you unroot but the unrevoked s-off, isn't it's at a different level, and they haven't created an s-on for the Hero that I know of. Good Luck we are here to help
EDIT: If you are s-on you can't use the HERCIMG.zip's. AFAIK but I might be mistakin.

Cannot get to recovery from hboot. Option is selected, but it just hangs at white screen with HTC in green.
I took your advice, about the fat fingers lol and used a screw driver to press the power button to make sure I wasn't hitting the back. It just displays the same white screen.. I'm beginning to think this phone does not have a valid recovery partition.
I've tried running multiple RUU's. It take me into bootloader, uploads, flashes, says it completes, but then just hangs at the same white screen after reboot.
if it dosnt have a recovery itll just go to the bootloader just try an ruu thats probably your best option at this point.
Yeah make sure you very gingerly and accurately press the proper buttons.

When you said it got stuck do you mean it wouldn't power on at all or was it stuck on the splash screen? Was you doing anything special to your phone like rooting, installing a custom rom or anything of that nature?
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using XDA Premium App
It got stuck last night while installing an app from market. Then I left it on table so hoping it will finish it by morning. But in the morning it wouldnt powerup at all not even recovery mode and when i plug in to charge charging light wont come up..
It had few reboots and remove battery to fix kinda problems(stuck on some apps) few days back.Since its my first droid I thought Its normal for a droid...
I only installed apps from market. And have not rooted it..
Return it to wherever you bought it... Something is clearly wrong with it... and if you didn't S-OFF, root, or flash it then your warranty will still be in tact.
Thanx. Will do that.Bought it on ebay.\With the shipping costs I would have been better off buying from a local shop
HELPPPPPP! My HTC IS does not pass hboot screen.
The white hboot screen reads:
Alpharev
Vivo PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT-1.09.1000
RADIO-3805.05.03.22_M
eMMC-boot
I do have the HBOOT menu. The key work.
When I fastboot/bootloder it just returns to fastboot.
When I choose Recovery or factory reset the phone blinks black and white with the HTC logo in center, and vibrates.
I haven't tried the other options of HBOOT menu.
How this happened?
I flashed the radio with this radio 3805.04.03.22. After the flash no voice for all in/out calls.
Then I thought to reflash the radio with a froyo radio: 38.02.01.17, which created the problem.
This a a big call for help! Any idea how to have my phone back to work, even at factory settings.

Please be patience and stop posting your problem on multiple threads!
I have now responded to 2 different posts you made with suggestions to try.
I have a full backup of my phone, at state when it worked (data.img, radio.img, ...).
It is possible to install this backup to my phone, which presently does not go past hboot menu?

I must assume that you made this backup using ClockworkMod recovery so you can only install these backup files if you can get into ClockworkMod recovery from the hboot menu when you select RECOVERY.

Hey, hows your IS going? you've tried flashing an original RUU using goldcard?
Vibrate 7 times and no boot
Hello,
I've got the "vibrate 7 times and no boot" issue on my Incredible s. Last time I was playing the "Plants VS Zombies", then the phone froze and my phone is not very hot actually. I took off my battery and reboot it, but it froze again on the HTC screen, then I took off the battery again, and then... never boot but only vibrating 7 times.
I've also read many about this issue, But more seriously than the other ones, I cant even go to the recovery(vol minus + power) mode.
The phone is S-ON and I've updated it to 2.3 with HTC OTA.
Would anyone help about this? or should I just send it to repair? that's cost much...
My IS is still "sick" - never beyond hboot menu. The radio flash was a really bad thing, and even the gb flash. A good lesson for anyone - think well before any update!
I played a lot with my IS during these days.
I tryed to install RUU_xxx.exe. The only one which went to the end was a sasktel one. As a result the phone lost S-OFF, which may be a good thig as now eventually the warranty may not considered as void.
I have tried a lot of combinations with PG32IMG.zip. I pou int oit even the files made with clockworkmod. No result so far.
At this point I have lost any hope to fix it. I plan to send it to service.

G1 stuck at boot screen , nuthing working !!!!

friends i bought a g1 off the ebay recently. the seller said that its a g1 but after purchase i realize its a t mobile android dev phone 1. here are the details.
drea*** PVT 32b
hboot 0.95.3000
radio1 .22.12 .29
i doubt it was already rooted, it had android 1.5 os. today i was trying to flash it with laslo 5.2... i was following this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1098899 step by step .
but after i completed Step 1. Get to 1.5 stock and flash recovery!
' no 2 step correctly ,i wiped the data & applied the update after that during the reboot my g1 got stuck after showing the T-Mobile G1 logo followed by Android logo & then dark screen.
after that i am not being able to fastboot (camera+power) ,recovery (home+power) or anything else. tried removing the battery & SD card but its still the same, when i plug the USB cable it shows red LED .. there's nothing else. can anyone please tell me how can i fix this ? its been only 2 days since i bought it. any kind of help will be appreciated . thank you
If holding power + back, power + home, or power + camera only gets you the g1 screen then either your hardware buttons are bad or you have a brick. Only jtag will fix this, too bad because those dev phones are kinda rare
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
thanks for your reply bro...its hard to find a JTAG in Kolkata(india)... btw can you tell why dev phones are like this ? i mean are they very hard to be used with custom roms ?... i bought this phone from ebay just 2 days ago...
They're actualy easier to flash roms because they are prerooted. If your in india I remember seeing a thread somewhere in the g1 section recently mentioning a place that does jtag, don't know how close it is to you but if you find the thread it might be

Dev phones are special phones that are - like in the title - for developers. The special thing about these are that they are pre-rooted and are sim-free. So If you want to simlock free your device, just root and flash this over your phone, it will sim-free itself.
Also what's awesome about them, that they have such an awesome battery cover!
Also,
yes . i've already red that thread ... but its in Mumbai...n i m in kolkata..thats a long distance , btw i've recently checked that my phone can be switched to blue led mode, hope the JTAG is only option.. thanks for your concern guys...
you're welcome and that's why we are here! ;P
