Hey all
Some of you may know me for my Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy S3 ToolKits.
Well I just finished porting the Google Nexus 7 ToolKit and need a few people who have locked (or unlocked) UNROOTED tablets to give the ToolKit a good test and give me a list of any errors of any kind.
This ToolKit is ready to go it just needs testing so it can be released. I dont own a Nexus 7 but have been asked by quite a few people to make it happen and im hoping I can get a Nexus 7 in the near future so I can work on the ToolKit more freely.
If you want to help test please let me know AS SOON AS POSSIBLE so I can send you the download link.
Thanks.
Mark.
locked and unrooted
I have a locked an unrooted Nexus 7. I am prepared to test. I am in the business of writing software too, so I may be better at testing (although we all know developers should never actually test).
Got my nexus 7 yesterday. Completely stock and unrooted. I'm in for testing. Especially since I used the gnex toolkit so I kinda owe you one.

my 2nd one is unrooted, ready to test it
Thanks I will send you the link as soon as its uploaded (about 20 minutes from NOW).
Please make a note of everything you test and especially anything that needs to be fixed or any incorrect wording.
As I said I dont have the Tablet yet so I may have worded the unlock procedure wrong or a few other things but all procedures should be good

Hey all,
We've been working pretty hard to bring you unrEVOked 3.2 with out-of-the-box, one-click support for all Android versions on the Incredible.
Available for Linux, Mac, and Windows:
http://www.unrevoked.com/recovery/
Please start by visiting the help page and reading it through:
http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/unrevoked3
1. Windows users MUST install the HBOOT drivers for this to work:
http://www.unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php?id=public:windows_hboot_driver_install
2. Windows users need to uninstall HTC Sync or any other program that might talk to the phone over USB (doubletwist, etc). Disabling HTC Sync from the system tray is not enough. They interfere with the root process and will cause problems.
3. When asked for USB connection type, select "Charge Only" and "Remember this".
Special thanks to Sebastian Krahmer for the rageagainstthecage exploit.

It's working flawlessly on our testing devices, but we are releasing it for a quick round of testing before distributing it more widely. If you are interested in helping us test, please join me in #unrevokedtest on freenode.net.
I'll replace the content here with the links to the updated tool once we've finished testing.

it worked for me.

stock 2.2 with ota. no mods previously done.
now I have root with S-off
I would like to test since I took the OTA and lost root, but I am unfamiliar with freenode and can't figure out what I need to do.
Can someone please point me in the right direction?

There's nothing "loaded" with these, they just make modifications to your phone. If you're already rooted/S-OFF there's no reason to run them again.
this is great news. i'm excited for when this is released. but, this will just root it right? it wont turn s-off?

Scoured all the D4 forums for a forum like this but could not find anything. I have come to find that since Motorola was taken over or purchased by Google that the bootloaders of Motorola devices are beginning to get unlock codes to unlock the bootloaders. Has anybody had any success using fastboot on their D4 to get the device ID from it? I personally have tried this with my D4 and it was unsucessful. I have posted the site for the info as to how to unlock bootloaders, unfortunately not all devices will be able to be unlocked though. I also was wondering if any devs are looking into Jellybean for our D4's or CyanogenMod 10 releases for it? I know there are unofficial CyanogenMod 10 releases for the Droid Razr already but havent seen much else yet. Any help towards these future developments would be greatly appreciated and I figured that this thread should probably be put into the Droid 4 Android Development Section as it is a Dev subject. If anybody thinks this thread should be posted elsewhere please let me know. Thanks!
https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/unlock-your-device-a
Here was an example of how to find your device ID:
DEVICE ID AND UNLOCK KEY
To unlock your device, you need to retrieve your device ID and obtain an unlock code.
I. Retrieving your device ID
Put your device in fastboot mode (Power+Vol Down) and connect over USB
Open a command prompt or Terminal session
Go to the Directory where you installed the Android SDK tools, and type: $ fastboot oem get_unlock_data This fastboot command will return a character string. This is the Device ID which you will be using to generate your unique unlock key. $ fastboot oem get_unlock_data
(bootloader) 0A40040192024205#4C4D3556313230
(bootloader) 30373731363031303332323239#BD00
(bootloader) 8A672BA4746C2CE02328A2AC0C39F95
(bootloader) 1A3E5#1F53280002000000000000000
(bootloader) 0000000
OKAY
[0.297s]
To generate your unlock code, you’ll need to paste together the 5 lines of output into one contnuous string without "(bootloader)" or white spaces.. Using the example above, the line you’d send us would be:0A40040192024205#4C4D355631323030373731363031303332323239#BD008A672BA4746C2CE02328A2AC0C39F951A3E5#1F532800020000000000000000000000

So you want to unlock the bootloader to have CM10? You don't need to unlock the bootloader... Root it, install Safestrap, select "Install Recovery" inside Safestrap, reboot, open Safestrap, switch to safe mode and then flash your CM10.. Download of CM10:
http://dl.hash-of-codes.com/ROMs/maserati/
After that don't forget to flash the Google Apps (http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-jb-20120726-signed.zip)
But please note - this is an early alpha preview. It may have huge bugs. At the moment the keys for menu/back/home/search are not working.
Any Jellybean for our D4's?
Negative,I was simply wondering if we would be able to unlock the bootloaders of our D4's. I dont want to try CM10 yet because I've only seen copies of it for the Razr. I know about safestrap and all that and how to flash ROM's,I was just wondering if and when we can expect to see some work being done on CM10 and or Jellybean for our D4's.

Nor can I. Horrible experience to go back to once you've become used to the tactile keys.
While my GB experience is fine on D4, I'm hoping that ICS or JB will clear up a few issues with my phone. Hopefully a sound method for moving to the next version while remaining rooted will come along. I'm so sick of switching to 3G from 4G only to have to dial out to a number in order to get internet connectivity.
My only concern would be the loss of tethering, which I've gotten into the habit of using as my home internet.

Doubt it will do any good but I've been going to the page every few days and clicking "no" on the link at the bottom of the page asking if the info was helpful. Then I leave feedback comments like "unlock the DROID 4" or "Unlock all your phones, quit disrespecting your customers like this"
Won't likely do any good but can't hurt either. Maybe if they get enough feedback like that the program will expand, show them there is a serious demand for the program.

I just left a message as well. Anything is better than nothing at this point. In my opinion, phones like the DROID4 are flagship devices that deserve the same treatment as the RAZR line.
haha, as much as I wish pestering them about unlocking a device such as ours would work, I dont think it will :'( but i still love how well my device runs on Eclipse
Ill have to go leave some comments for the fine people at Motorola or is it google now lol... Hopefully they will get the hint. Now just waiting for my D4 to get back from Beigephone in Texas. They flashed it to Page Plus for me. Got a nice D4 with some yummy ICS on a $55 a month plan. No contracts for me , sorry Verizon!

Question
only other phone I had was the D1..can't stand not having hard keys...anyways I am currently running the ics OTA update after using the gb tool to flash back the original files so I could receive it. I updated by going to settings and it updated automaticly then I rooted. I am hesitant to try different roms because I have to install safestrap, then install a second system. will unlocking the bootloader make it so we just install clockwork recovery and be able to simply back up our system with nandroid then flash our roms via update.zip like the good-old days? I would like that very much!

Does anyone know of a link with instructions to root my Samsung Galaxy S3 i9305 via Mac?
I no longer own a PC running windows so it needs to be Mac (Snow Leopard or Mountain Lion OS - I have access to both)

Help!
Hi,
I just got my i9305 and need to root it before I start using my device and I can't seem to find even 1 site which details how to root this device on the mac. Can anyone please help??? Much appreciated!
Thanks,
Parichay
Someone else may come along with a more informative reply, but this may help:
For some (unknown) reason I couldn't root my I9305 using the toolkit stickied in the development section using my Windows PC. After many attempts I installed VMWare on my (much better) Linux laptop and ran the toolkit from a virtual machine running Windows XP - all went well for me YMMV!
Never having owned a Mac I can't offer much more, though you might also look at a program called Heimdall. It didn't detect my phone reliably on my slightly out of date installation of Ubuntu (10.04) and I'm not sure if it's available for Mac, but it may be worth a look.
Good luck!
I just checked and Heimdall is available for OSX! I couldn't reliably satisfy a missing dependency on my older Ubuntu install but you may have more luck. I don't seem to be able to paste a link here, but Google "Heimdall download" and you''ll find it.
I have been busy but I am going to be working on videos on how to root via osx and windows. keep your eyes peeled or sub my youtube channel.
Click here for my YouTube Channel
Thanks
Thank you!
In the meantime, I could not resist and and used my friend's Windows machine to root the phone using the I9305 toolkit
[I9305 Rootkit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1979290]
I did install Heimdall on OSX but was not adventurous enough to try using it without much reference. My bad. There were some threads on it, but the files that came along with the Heimdall instructions were for I9300 and the I9305 files using Odin didn't work (I admit I did not spend as much time as I would have liked with it).
Thank you all anyways, and I'm sure the videos and more posts will help others, no doubt.

I'm in the same boat, unfortunately there are too many unhelpful comments as I have spent a lot of time looking for the root instructions in all the place that people get told "just look in that section" My first Android device and I don't want to brick it. There are lots of pc instructions for the 9300 or even 9305 but am struggling to find specically mac and 9305, guess I'll have to try to find the "right" section and ask there and wait for the "google it" comments. Rant over
I was in the same situation as you are in now. I gave up on finding out how to root on mac with Heimdall. Didn't want to take any risks. Was to many unknown factors for me.
What I did was to install VirtualBox (free) and a copy of Vista on my mac. If you don't have a copy of vista it will not be a good option as it will cost you some bucks..
Yeah thanks Cundis I have been thinking of using a vb myself but was hoping not to, guess like you I may give up soon and install windahs

2. Can we flash the CWM intended for I9300 on our I9305 ?

The most simpler way to root at the moment is this:forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2050297
As an extra you'll get a patch to security hole of exsynos syst3m.
Regarding recovery dont know for cwm but you can use goo manager from the market to flash TWRP. Just open the optios and choose something like 'install the open recovery script'.
For the case yiu are wondering, yes I am using GS3 LTE I9305.

I am terribly sorry. You are right. The problem was I have both GN 2 and SG3, was tired and so mixed the devices...
Regarding root method, that works on both devices.
Here is a link for the case OP wants to install CWM:

Here is the direct link to xda thread in dev section;

I will also try flashing twrp later when i find time and report back.
Regarding the toolkit, that's actually a question for the dev. I am going to ask him that by myself, I have donated version and since he has a thread in dev section of I9305 he should have some knowledge about this and what for his toolkit can actually be used with LTE SG3.

You got link for CWM? Regarding camera problem, it doesn't have anything to do with rooting. It happens on some devices if one ticks 'patch hole' or whatever. I personally didn't have that problem but another one which maybe isn't related to the patch. It happened only once, a day ago, couldn't hear anything when calling someone or when someone was calling me. Reboot 'solved' it.
To bad that the best SG3 edition receives so little support from devs. It is probably Samsung's fault. They even change encryption method, or some parts of it, so for example with note 2 I am not able to use twrp when encrypted. In feature I am going to buy probably only nexus devices even galaxy note feature editions could pose a temptation. Bit soon we will be getting devices with 1080 resolution and hopefully there will be nexuses with bigger screen.

Yes from the link you gave, Thanks. I am having the problem that the CWM doesn't stick and I get the stock recovery back after the reboot.. They are talking about the /system/boot-recovery.p file which isn't on my phone. It has the /system/recovery-from-boot.p file. Are they the same file ?
Even I am surprised that our S3 model has such little support here. I am hoping that it will only get better as many people get their hands on this!! :good:
Ok, so I didn't find another thread with this information in it and if there is one will someone please let me know?
I am in the process of rooting my N6. When checking to see if adb can see my device it gives me a strange device iD that I'm not familiar with. The only device connected to my PC is my N6 so I assume that's it. If someone could, please give me a little insight as to what that device name is and if I can move forward with rooting/flashing/custom recovery etc. Thanks in advance for any feedback!
The device name it spits back at me is: ZX1G22CBMQ
I haven't posted enough for XDA to let post an outside link to a screenshot of my command prompt return. Let me know if anyone would need to see it.

That is a typical, correct device ID for the Nexus 6. You are ready to Rock & Roll.

Best of luck. And you've got a good start here. Do Not Hesitate to ask questions if you are unsure of anything. And do not, under any circumstances, try to relock your bootloader. Only if you are returning it for replacement, and then follow the guide in the General section.

Awesome information. I'll look around and see if I can research what happens if I were to do so. Everything seems super easy once you learn the process'.
