Hi, same happens to me, I have the original battery (with which I am able to charge to 100%) and another one (higher capacity 1900mAh) that only charges to 88%.

This is a known issue, and it is because of the battery driver from within the kernel, i tried to work on it but suspended my work for now.
Probably i will work on this on a later date.
then what's the solution for our problem,
i read somewhere that 1950mAh batteries are compatible for Sensation XL, does anybody tried already???

I have same problem. I had the original battery which was about 14 months old. Suddenly it started draining really fast, like 70% within
an hour or half. When it reached around 30% phone closed. When I turned it on, it said there was 4-6%.
Last week I purchased new Insmat 1700mAh battery and charget it phone turned off about 10 hours.
It only got to 84%. Now I´ve drained it and charged it couple of times and it reaches that 89% but no more than that.

For all that wants a new battery for their phone :
If you buy another one you will have to check if the voltage on the new battery is the same as on the stock battery. For now until someone makes another kernel for bigger battery, if you buy another battery with more miliamps on you will not get it to charge over 89% because bigger battery is running 0.1 volts higher than stock. The phone runs just fine with it but it can't fully charge it unless another kernel is made for it or unless you use an external charger, with that I mean , pulling battery out and charge it with another charger. And insert it again while fully charged

Thanks for that info anders3408! Battery still works great and lasts long.
External Charger, i don't understand what you're saying, can you say once again clearly, to get an external charger what i have to do?

I think he meant desktop/external charger. By using them, you can charge battery full. Not when its in the phone. Maybe its related to kernels, I dunno.
Sent from my HTC Sensation XL with Beats Audio X315e using xda app-developers app
how much battery is charged is controled by the kernel, so in theory , if someone editted kernel then we can charge battery to full.
If you will use a bigger battery you need to use external charger to charge it full, and yes by external charger i mean a charger you can put the battery in, so it is pulled out of the phone

Im really bad with this sort of things cos i can only say what is working and what not. And maybe why...
But to you who know better. If its because of kernel, would it be hard thing to repair since there is custom kernels out there?

i supposed its best if you charge to 100% and used it until 5-10% before charging back to full.....it may prolonged the battery life......

it takes alot of time
Use each battery down to about at least 30% (max down to 5%), charge it fully, repeat two or three times.

Please do not follow this advice. This used to be the best way to stop NiCad batteried from developing low capacity 'crystal memory' but it is not the case with LiOn or LiPo batteries, in fact, quite the opposite. Doing as he recommends is much more likely to damage the battery and even start a fire.
A LiPo shouldn't be discharged by more than 80% if at all possible. If you want to know more there are a lot of links on the interweb but here's a typical thread on stack exchange .. and a quote from it ...
http://android.stackexchange.com/qu...-first-time-charging-on-li-ion-batteries-myth
Nowadays, batteries are often Lithium-Ion or Lithium-Polymer and such batteries (as I have read many times and based on my own experience) would be stronger if you charge them often. The first time charging and "wait-until-full-discharge-before-recharge" and "don't-use-when-charging" are not applicable to these modern batteries.
Li-Ion and Li-Polymer batteries, if charged often, after about 1 month, would reach to their maximum performance, and you are recommended to charge them every time you find an outlet!

Wow, now we have the Richard Dawkins of battery advice. Well done.
Can everybody just calm the funk down and charge their batteries as and when they see fit? It's fine. Either way.
There is circuitry inside the battery that will prevent them from over charging, under charging, over discharging catching fire and generally behaving badly. There is also no memory effect. Just charge them when you think you'll need them.
Yeah just keep using it, if one day in the distant or not-so-distant future it doesn't turn on for some reason and/or seems unresponsive, it might need charging.

Hmmm .. shows how out of date I can get ... I didn't realise that the overcharge protection had reached such a state of sophistication ... Personally I never bothered with battery regimes, even in the bad old NiCad days ...
Thanks for the correction.
The overcharging prevention was first introduced to the Sensation and EVO 3D phones. I remember when I started seeing it because I would leave for work, and sometimes my battery wasn't charged fully. What it was doing was charging to 100%, then stops charging and will let it discharge 5%, then start charging again. And it would keep doing it until I took it off the charger. I've yet to see my EVO 4G LTE do that, though. Maybe it's been refined so that we don't notice it as much?

On the note of over-discharging: just because there is circuitry inside the battery to prevent over-discharging doesn't mean you should ever let your phone run down to (what your battery shows as) 0%. Yes, the phone will generally shut off when the battery is left at around 3v, but it's still possible to force turn your phone on (which you should never do) after that point. Not to mention, leaving the battery at a low voltage for a significant period of time WILL affect the overall lifespan of the battery. Battery manufacturers will do what they can, but there is really no such thing as "true" over-discharge protection, as with overcharge protection, since batteries will still lose charge even when not in service.
Yes, if you let your battery run down to (what your phone shows) 0% occassionally, that is OK. But you should really only be doing that if and only if you need to re-calibrate for cell mismatches.
Hah! I still remember when I bought a mugen battery the instruction clearly says to discharge it fully and charge it fully for like 5 times to get optimum capacity Obviously I didn't do it. I am much aware of these things since good old Nokia 3310 days.

The only way the battery could be hindered via charging is if you do it for extended periods of time.
For example more than 10 hours isnt good.

Yeah. I've read up on this stuff. More than 10 hours is called Overcharging. It's unhealthy for the battery and for the phone itself
The normal charge is just plugging it at any time and plug it out at any time.
And then there is healthy charge. You need to do this once a month or two.
Let the battery fall below 20-15 percent and then charge it up all the way to 100.
Also keeping it plugged in at 100% isn't recommended because we don't have smart charge (which basicly cuts of the power from the charger to the motherboard at 100% to prevent wear and tear like in some new high end devices)
Hope you find this interesting :3
Thank you. I will do some research on this myself too..
Maybe add it to the get started guide? ;3
so charge for a short time doesn't decrease the battery?
ex: charge from 30% to 50% is not wrong?

If you sleep less than 10 hours than its good. I do that when I go to school.
More than 10 is not healthy.
this becomes a problem esp if u use usb tethering
Modern firmware stops charging the phone when it's full, drains it a bit, and then will not send any juice to the battery anymore- it's pretty much impossible to overcharge unless you've corrupted or hacked out that bit of the firmware or you're overamping to begin with- or the phone and its firmware are poorly designed or executed.
This is also why your phone drops from 100 to 95% so fast when you start using it- it wasn't at 100% when it stopped charging; the firmware lies to you so you don't get mad and try to overcharge and destroy your battery or call customer service because it won't go above ~98%
Well then, I've had this phone for over a year and always charge it over the night (way over 10hours :I)

I bought used Droid 4 last month. Battery seems to be in good state (2-2,5 days of light use), but every time it gets to ~40% it immediately drops to 20% (within few seconds). Is there a way to delete battery stats so it can detect percentage correctly? I tried to discharge it completely and recharge again but it didn't help.
Phone is running CM11. Any help appreciated.

if battery's charge is very low, it could take a while to show any change. Normally batteries has some charge, but who know when the battery was made and packaged, could have been a couple of years ago. I would leave connected to wall charger over night.

droid 4 doesnt require a new rear cover but it will wear out quickly if you remove it frequently. you can even keep the phone without a rear cover if youd like because the stock battery has a glue that holds it together with the phone along with the screws for the flex cable
