Will CM10 support S-Note and S-Memo? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just wonder if it will be possible to install S-Note and S-Memo on CM10? These are very useful tools for the Galaxy Note users.

For the last time nope these apps require Samsung framework included only in the touchwiz roms
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium

Simple answer: NO
S-Pen apps and features require Samsung framework, There is no Samsung framework in any CM / AOSP / AOKP ROMs.
However there are alternative apps that do similar jobs.
Check the list of alternatives in the CM threads.

Thank you for the quick reply!

You could always use a TW Based Customer ROM - CleaNote or something...

Wow youre the first person asking this kidding.
There was a legend working on it, but because he is a really good developer, he has to prioritize. Currently he is cm10 ing, which the whole community is wanting, only fraction is wanting touchwizz on cm9/10.
I guess you can try by searching and not asking, who that person is. Ask him by pm if you can help. He has been mentioned three to four times already.
The philosophy of xda (I am noob and development illiterate, my lameass excuse) is if its not here, you want it, you build it! At least 2 other people will be happy so its rewarding

I'm completely pissed off. I'm going to make it again but it takes time to check everything and I have been working on it for a long time with the help of noejn since I'm giving my first steps at dev. I'll do everything to make it as quick as I can but I'm not going to tell any dates. Please tell me things that you would like to see in my rom like apps features or others.
lg weather widget would be appreciated, DSP manager, no shutter sound, appwidgetpicker by default, remove some confirmation popup like when shutdown or when mount usb mass storage.
thx for your work

I suggest, that Your rom should be as clean as possible.
Everybody then can install all the crap they like
That's it man. I like it as clean as possible. But I also like to know the other users opinions because together we can make it better and many people thinking is always better than just one.

In this first version no. I'm putting all efforts at performance and stability and not at theming. Of course that I'm going to make some changes and try to make it clean and good looking but that's not a priority.

ICS Facebook sync fix - does such a thing exist for the Captivate?

I've seen quite a few fixes for ICS's Facebook sync issues, and have been trying lately to adapt them (specifically, fixes for the Vibrant and Galaxy Nexus) to the Captivate, but I've had no luck with my current method, which is moving various APKs such as ContactsProvider in to the .zip for the ROM that I'm using (TeamHacksung ICS build 14). How do the other fixes actually work, and would it be possible to adapt one of them to the Captivate?

All I'm getting from the search function is a wall of results from the same thread, none of which work, as far as I've seen.
PS: HaxSync or any of those other apps won't work. I only want FB sync for the phone numbers, which only the official app provides, as far as I know :|.
FriendCaster is the app you are looking for.
Nvm. I am gonna leave it at that.

Yep! It's on the list of available accounts, but if I press it, it doesn't get added to the list. Friendcaster does load up the contacts and pictures, but IIRC, the official app is the only thing that can get the phone numbers, which is really all I care about in this case. And yes, I'm certain that the official app doesn't work for sync, and that Friendcaster isn't getting phone numbers.
I would try asking in the ICS Rom's Q&A thread, in Q&A subsection. If you are using the ICSSGS then use their Q&A, if on TeamHackSung's then use theirs

I've asked there, but from what I've seen, TeamHacksung's official line is pretty much LOLNOPE WE'LL WAIT FOR FACEBOOK TO FIX THE APP. Seems like a dumb strategy to me, considering there're fixes for this issue on many other phones, including other Galaxy S variants.
I guess I'll see how they respond anyways!
Well it is something that Facebook has to do, TeamHackSung can't change the API for the Facebook app. It has nothing to do with their ROM, it is Facebook's fault for not updating to what Google has told them they have to.

Rooting will give you access to lot of new Custom Roms and it will make your device up to date. . Its just like you modifying your car with different different engines to make it better. If any lags then that is taken care of with custom ROMs... And many more....

Not exactly, all rooting does, is essentially gives you "Admin" rights to the system, to change/add things to the system as you see fit.
If I take you car analogy, it would be more like this "You have a car, and you need to get to a part of the engine that is covered by a panel, but you need a special screwdriver to open it", rooting is the equivalent of you getting that screwdriver.
Nothing has actually change to the car, other than you can now get access to parts you couldn't before.
Technically for Samsung devices at least, you don't even need to be rooted to install a modified ROM, as there are guys out there, capable of creating ROMs that are pre-rooted and will flash to your device like an official variant using Odin.
Custom ROMs in the zip variety, can only be flashed with a custom recovery, which as yet, does not exist for the GC and neither do any custom firmware builds.
But to answer the OP, I am rooted and I have done things like change the DPI of the screen to something that I personally find more appealing to use. As well as add photoshpere abilities to the camera. You could when rooted, delete / disable pre-installed apps that you don't need or use.
But equally you could also break things rather easily too, if you mess around with things you shouldn't.

This is more of the answer I was looking for, as far as rooting goes I do have experience with my other devices ie Sgs 3, Note 10.1 & Note 2. I really was more interesed in the GC specifically as its a new device to me.
Could you please tell me more about what you have done with the DPI change ie what benefit does it give?
Other than photo spheres is there any other goodies to be had?

I'm sure Carbon is a good rom but can anyone give an idea of what it can do that the device cannot do on the stock rom with custom launcher and third party apps? Since the Sprint S4 version does not have it's own changelog (at least I didn't see one) not sure what features are working and what doesn't. Also, don't you lose all the air gestures, eye tracking, etc when going to AOSP rom?
I tried nightly 3 and I kept getting setup wizard fc. do I have to flash an aosp kernel or does it come with one.

Yes your going to loose the entire set of unique TW features that come with the S4 - air gestures, smart scroll, etc. A lot of people don't care for those features, me personally, I like to show them off but I don't ever really use them.
A lot of people absolutely despise the TW interface. And yes some of it can be changed with third party apps and mods but not all of it. Some people want the clean AOSP experience, you can easily theme your entire interface (dialer, messaging, unique colors, blah) with themes from the play store without the need for downloading a bunch of third party apps for each individual thing you want to change. Also native DPI changer is included in a lot of AOSP roms. It's really just personal preference. None of the Samsung bloat, Sprint bloat, awful TW colors, just check out roms like AOKP, AOSPA, CM, etc, on other devices.
I recommend checking out Slimbean for our device to get the general gist of what AOSP roms provide you with.

I really liked Slimbean but ended up going back to TW, AOSP is getting there, but I ran into too many bugs that I didn't have to deal with when I was using TW. I miss just being able to switch roms as I please, but my job kind of requires me having a phone that works, all the time, and quickly. Hopefully in the next week or so those issues are fixed because they seem to be on the nightly (or in the process of being fixed on the nightly) (all my problems were with signal and calling. Ex: distorted voice, bars were all over the place and I randomly lost signal in places where I had full bars of 4G with TW)
Just a word of caution if you decide to hop ship from touchwiz.
Besides that, AOSP>Touchwiz because I sure as hell only use the features to show off, i'd much rather have a stock unified UI than having to download apps to achieve that. It's also alot quicker since you don't have the framework of TW and the features weighing it down :good:

I'm familiar with AOSP roms (ran them on many other phones) but was specifically asking about Carbon. Not bagging on AOSP roms just seems like a larger sacrifice with all the newer features of the S4. Granted I do think a lot are gimmicky and don't work that well but do use Smartstay & IR functions.
Just curiosity more than anything.

[Q] Compatibility with AOSP?

I am really interested in purchasing a smart watch and I have been looking at the gear since I currently have a note3. My problem is I always flashing AOSP based Roms once they become available and I don't want this $300 watch to become useless once I do. How much functionality is retained when running on an AOSP based ROM like cm, pa or aokp? And I remember some people were complaining about notifications not working for all apps has there been a fix?

There has not, Touchwiz is the only way to receive notifications at this time..
Perhaps in the future, once ATN becomes more stable it could work on AOSP.
