That's why I said it has a Tasker plugin?
Of course you need to couple it with a Tasker rule.
Back when I tested the Tasker Trial it couldn't change 2G/3G afaik and I had to use Toggle 2G/3G to get that possibility.
Maybe that's not true anymore and Tasker can change that alone nowadays.
If you want to get help with setting up that rule you need to ask someone else as I decided against purchasing Tasker.
But then this question might be better suited for the Tasker forum.

I have setup a Task to Turn on WiFi as needed when called for by an App. Since it takes a couple of seconds for WiFi to find and obtain an IP address is there a way to make my WiFi Task to delay a few seconds so IP can be obtained before the App that called for WiFi is started?
Thanks

Tasker actions are done sequentially. Use Tasker->wait to have the task wait a specified amount of time. In addition, you may want to use the goto action to loop until you have an ip address.

So I've been testing stuff out and I notice that when I have 3g turned off I get like twice the battery life. Is there an app anyone knows of that keeps 3g off unless specifically using data without having to manually use a 3g/2g toggle?
Nexus S - cm7
tasker would do it, its not free but its really worth the money

Would tasker do it without root on stock?
Every app I tried since 2.3.x... none seem to be able to disable your mobile data connection.
Thanks.

Looking for a app similar to the one in cm7 that can toggle 2g on and off. Haven't found anything like it yet

I've notice there's an option for "Use only 2G networks". Was wondering if it's possible to make, or if there already excist a widget/switch to quickly switch it on and off.
i use this:

lets you make anything you can think of and you can save your profiles

Widgetsoid is awesome, but it still only throws you into "Network settings" menu, not toggling the "Use only 2G networks" button.
Is it even possible tho? On my older phones (Desire, Desire Z) I remember it was impossible to do a button to instantly toggle between 2G and 3G.
Control Bar?

That's our best bet for now. On the g2 you could toggle.

Try xda superpower. Maybe not exactly what you're looking for but it is useful. You can set it to disable data when the screen is off, set exemptions for specific apps, and a whole bunch of other options. Its free so you might want to give it a try.

I have installed Viper Rome. Now I'm trying to get Tasker to run.
Unfortunately, the radio cells are not updated in idle mode. This is an Android bug. Is that correct. Or this was in previous versions.
Thanks Niro96
I use Tasker. Everything works well for me, but I use only a fraction of the features in Tasker. What is it exactly that doesn't work?

can't get tasker to work for me
I used tasker in many many phones but in HTC phones (using Sense ROMs) I am never able to get a profile to work. That profile basically switches off my 4g when a wifi is connected. I live in an area where I only get 1 bar of 4g but 4 bars of 2g/edge reception from my rooom...
i'm a fan of tasker, but since i run it on my One I'm not able to turn the keyguard off when home wifi is connected - which is one of my favourite profiles.
there are so many different features in this app, it has to be that a few of them are uneffective depending on your phone/rom/setup...
HTC one and Phone Radio settings
So I guess I am not the only one not able to change radio settings as part of my profiles then? I get that the options for radio settings are unavailable on this device when trying to use them. I have rooted (allthough Tasker has not asked for root access according to SU) but with S-ON (because I updated stock ROM on my phone when i got it. Yes, I am an idiot....)
I used to love Tasker until i found a similar app that i think is much more user friendly and also imho has many more functions/triggers then tasker.
Give it a try maybe that works better for you
The app is called Automagic and you can find it in the Play Store
I also had a problem with Automagic for certain profiles on my HTC One which relied on network tower cell ID informations as when the Network Mode was set to: GSM / WCDMA / LTE auto. For some reason in this setting the phone would often not get the CELL ID informations from the towers and therefore could not identify my location. The workaround i used for this is that i switched the Network mode to: GSM / WCDMA auto mode and then it works flawlessly. Whenever else i need 4G i simply turn it back on manually.
Can anyone shed light on how to get Tasker to do a vibe on phone call without turning off the volume for notifications? The profiles I used on my last phone don't seem to work on my HTC One. I still need to hear my appointment reminders, but want to vibe only for phone calls and SMS.
Silent mode controls for all three. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

I would love to have this too. Anyone? I don't see it in Secure Settings which is the one option that I have seen for it. Right now I am using a home-brew Tasker profile similar to their sample "Auto Sleep Mode", but would prefer to simplify.

install busybox and Secure Settings
in tasker, create a new task --> Plugins --> Secure Settings --> Config --> Custom ROM Actions --> HTC Modes --> Power Saver Mode --> Enabled or Disabled.
Unfortunately this will not make the Power Saver icon visible in the status bar when its active but you can see its active from the 2 fingers drop down menu or in Settings.
I'm trying to enable WiFi tether with tasker for arunchained. I have the secure settings app and it doesn't toggle WiFi tether. It comes up as an error when running the task. Anyone have any luck with this?
Same issue here and have seen it on several other threads..... have not seen a solution to this yet. I've used Tasker and Trigger in the past with no problems, but can't get either to turn Hotspot on/off.
Strange...
I just tried with both the built in Tasker toggle and Secure Settings and both times Wi-Fi Hotspot turned on without a problem.
What's the error?

Are you running stock? What gives I have to use a convoluted autoinput task to do this. Secure settings doesn't work at all on 5.1.1 for me.

I'm running stock and always have, prefer vanilla Android.
As to Secure Settings not working on 5.1.1, I wouldn't know since I haven't used it in some time. Last time probably was just prior to posting in this thread (almost 4 months ago).
Sorry, no help here...

I found a wrokaround that allows you to still tether automatically with Tasker. I posted my results here in the Tasker Groups page. More or less you simulate screen taps to use the standard phone quick setting in the notification pulldown window. Send a PM or hit me up on Hangouts if you need any help figuring it out.
Thanks @andrewjt19 I'll have to give this a go later! I actually found an app that will toggle Wi-Fi tether automatically, but it is paid. I wonder what method the app uses to do it, I never checked on a debugger and I'm not even sure I would know what I am looking at. It is a shame to have to pay for something that should be such a simple procedure.
The app is called toggle WiFi hotspot 5.0 by Erwin Goslawski.

I found this widget and bought it too. It works well. I guess I'm glad I found an alternative methods of this stops working at some point. The only downside to my method is that the screen must be on and off the user is interacting with the device when the script runs, it could interfere this not activating the intended purpose. But overall it's simple and efficient. Thanks for sharing this widget though.
taPpeD fROM my nExUs 6
I had been having this problem on my 5x and just found a solution with xposed. I installed the xposed module 'x tether' which says it enables tethering for the moto x phones and afterwards tasker is able to enable / disable the wifi hotspot. This is the first thread that came up on google when I searched for this problem so I thought I would post here in case someone else encounters the same problem.
Hi,
Is there anything that can do a task like to turn on Data/wifi when WiFi/Data is off or out of reach and vice versa?
Tasker

You don't need a plugin. Create a Run Shell task and type "svc data disable" or "svc data enable" with root checked.
