I am in South Korea and will be moving to the UK soon.
I have the SU600 on SKT in Korea. It is rooted and I'm running Kangs CM on 4.0.3.
If I buy a UK sim card when I arrive, will the phone work fine for calls/messaging/data? I looked on gsmarena and the 2G frequencies seem to match up. But the 3G on the phone is HSDPA, but GSM arena says the UK needs UMTS 2100. Will it still work?
Would I need to get it unlocked in Korea before I leave?
Thank you

From my experience, having a custom rom is effectively same as having a sim unlocked phone. So based on what you wrote, I have every expectation that you'll successfully use at least the 2g network in UK.
I bought my su660 in Korea too and now I am using it in the US. It turned out, however, that I cannot use the 3g hspa network here with T-Mobile because they require phones having both 1900 & 2100 bands. So I am stuck with just 2G for now.
So I would do careful research on what bands UK operators use before you head on over, especially if you really need 3g speed and if you are not planning on buying another phone anytime soon. I hope you will be in better luck than me.
Bon voyage and good luck!

You are wrong sim unlock has nothing to do with root/custom ROM. He has to unlock the SIM before.
And to unlock you need a STOCK LG ROM, froyo or gingerbread, as it needs lge hidden menu which isn't present in custom ROMs.
I unlocked last week I had to reflash a froyo LG Stock ROM.
Some people say that putting a SIM card from a different network pops up the unlock option at boot but couldn't try.

I imported an ATT Atrix for using in Mexico with Telcel Carrier, and when I first inserted the Telcel Sim Card, the Sim Unlock Menu popped. So yes, maybe your Optimux 2x is already unlocked.
Anyway, you can unlock your phone anytime and in anyplace. Just insert a sim card from another Carrier Company and the option should be showed.

Cool, I will check the SIM unlock then.
How about the frequencies it uses?
According to gsmarena the SU660 has 2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 3G Network HSDPA
The UK frequencies for 2G are Required GSM 900. Recommended GSM 900 and GSM 1800. and 3G Required UMTS 2100.
I'm guessing that this means the 2G will work, but 3G won't? Can someone tell me if this is correct, I don't fully understand what it means with the SU660 having HSDPA. Is this a different to UMTS??
Hsdpa is UMTS.

GSM arena has insufficient info. Check out http://www.phonegg.com/compare/27/LG-Optimus-2X-vs-LG-Optimus-2X-SU660.html
From what I see there and what you described about UK operators, it seems like you will be able to use 3g.

That could be a bit misleading because the 2x I have here in Australia has 2100 and 900 but no 850. 850 is used exclusively by one carrier here.
So, the link may depend on in which region the 2x is sold.

Hi all,
I've spent the last few hours searching google and this forum, but to no avail. Any help would be appreciated.
I have a LG Optimus Black but don't have the box to know the specifications. I want to buy a T-mobile sim card for my phone, but can't figure out if it will support T-mobile's 1700/2100 3G network. According to GsmArena (and other sites) there is 2 versions of the P970 one with the 1900 Mhz band and one with the 1700 band, I don't know which one my phone is.
How can I know which band my phone supports? I have a model number, IMEI, and S/N. Is there any app or program that would be able to tell me what band my phone supports?
Thanks in advance.

So you have the 1900 Mhz version of the P970, since At&t's UMTS network uses 850/1900.
Humm just bring your phone to T-mobile booth or branch and test it

T-Mobile USA's 3G/4G(UMTS/HSPA+) AWS REQUIRES 1700mhz + 2100mhz combined. If your phone has only 1700mhz, it won't work (and no, it won't work "1/2"). You'll just get defaulted to EDGE speeds (which practically all GSM phones support)
the
P970 has HSDPA 900 / 1700 / 2100
and the P970H has HSDPA 900 / 1900 / 2100
so i think the original version would work...
Came back from the U.S and AT&T 3G works fine.
I just bought a Wind lg p999dw and I unlocked it with the octopus, and now I cannot get 3g data on a rogers sim. Can anyone help me out? I've been searching for hours. Some say its doable, some say impossible.

HELLO people
Well, here at Mexico we have Iusacell a cdma/lte carrier. I was aking them if they support a double subscription mode like verizone does. Because my phone can skip between both signals (gsm and cdma).
They tell me that what thet can do is to give me sim card, and they enter sim card serial and phone serial into system, and that way couldwork. They claim they have a sony phone that does that jump (gsm-cdma-gsm) and it is the way they configure it.
Will this work ok D3 and D4?

As far as I know, only the USA is using LTE on the 800mhz band block. This is the compatible frequencies of the droid 4 for LTE. The GSM should work though, I'm not sure what frequencies you guys use in mexico though.

Hi,
I got from my friend HTC Velocity 4G from Telestra network.
I installed new official ICS ROM from telestra and I'm using this phone in europe on t-mobile network.
I have question regarding connecting to LTE network. Telestra, and T-Mobile in my country have LTE network on 1800 MHz frequency, but I can't log on to LTE network in my country. I tried few other official ROM-s (Cingular, SKT, Vodafone, ...) but all other networks have LTE on different frequencies and I assume that is the reason why I can't log on to my LTE network.
I even try force logon via USSD code *#*#4636#*#*, but without success. All other 'technologies' works awsome (GPRS/EDGE/UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA).
I'm noob, so can anybody tell me is there any other way to logon to my LTE network.
I also have Huawei Speedstick LTE and with my SIM card I can logon to my LTE network so there is no problem with LTE subscription or my SIM card.
Is there any radio that I need to flash so I can logon to my network ?
THNX in advance for answers ?

Could be wrong...but I think it requires both the 1800 and 2600 frequencies...I remember reading somewhere that one was for down and the other was for up or something like that...I'll try and find it and clarify
But again I could be wrong...I know little when it comes to phone frequencies and how they are actually used...

Nope, my service provider is T-Mobile Croatia. Here in Croatia we have LTE network on 1800 MHz, and that is the reason why i flashed with Telestra ROM, telestra also have LTE network on 1800 MHz frequency.
I tried few other ROMs that I downloaded from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1338919 but with no success regarding LTE which is logical because cingular, SKT, vodafone....they have LTE networks on other frequencies.
I think that I could solve my problem by flashing radio, but I can't find anywhere some other radio for my Velocity/Raider/Vivid...
I don't think that even with s-off we can flash radios...

I'm not sure if I jumped the gun on my purchase before knowing 100% this phone would work in my region on my network. I have AT&T in the US. I bought an international GT-i9305 Unbranded, unlocked phone. I found out first that the SIM cards are not the same size. I bought a cutter and cut down my larger SIM from my SGS2 and put it in the SGS3.
The SGS3 came with:
Android 4.1.1,
BB I9305ZHALI2,
Kernel 3.0.31-399890,
Build numberJRo03C.I9305ZHBLJ1
I backed up the IMEI, rooted it and installed CWM (though every time I reboot there is no CWM anymore) Ive been using mobile Odin to flash I9305_CWM_Recovery.tar which gets me into CWM just fine and I can flash other modems, Roms etc. I also use Triangle Away to remove flash counter.
My main question is, Everything seems to work fine, but I get NO HSPA data connection? I only get Edge, and its very slow at best. I didnt realize this at first because I was on my wifi network. Is there a fix for this? Or is it because of the version of phone I have that it won't work on AT&T USA network?

Try this. Go to setting > more settings > access point names > press menu key > reset to default, go back into mobile network settings and make sure network mode is set to GSM/WCDMA (auto mode). Reboot and see what happens.

Thanks I have done that. I've also searched the SGS3 Apn settings on the net. No matter what Apn, always the same result.

HSPA @ AT&T
"We currently use frequencies in the 1900 MHz and 850 MHz ranges...."

Yes international gt-i9300 manufacture unlocked, UK.
So does the gt-I9305 not have 1900mhz? I spent close to an hour on the phone with AT&T trying to see if it would work. They could see the phone, looked up the IMEI and activated a different SIM for me as I cut mine down from my sgs2. Always Edge data and nothing more. All the descriptions I've found online show the same frequencies as my sgs2. Are there different 9305's out there?

I feel special that I am the only person in the USA that has bought an i9305.:good:
I am pretty sure the I9305 has these frequencies
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100
4G Network LTE 850/1800/2600
This is what the specs have always shown. for the one in australia but all i9305 should be the same unless they are i9305t or i9305N
I looked up what australia uses and it does show the 1900 scroll down on this link
http://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/mobile_phone_frequencies
shows this:
3G Hi-band 1900-2100Mhz
The 3G Hi-band 1900-2100Mhz is used by Optus, Telstra and VHA.
Tower Rx /Tower Tx
1920 – 1980Mhz (tower Rx), 2110 – 2170Mhz (tower Tx) using multiple paired 5Mhz and 10Mhz channels
** to be completed **
But you are the first person i know in the US who has bought it purely because you wont be able to have the LTE function.

gsmarena says sth diffrent:
HSDPA 850 / 900 / 2100
maybe for Australia is another model but it at least should have diffrent name
But I have seen more sites saying that it does support 1900 more then sites that say dont, I did a quick search on google and the 1st List of search pages when I type I9305 Frequencies I see that Only gsmarena dont display the 1900 All other sites say 1900 Maybe GSM arena is wrong.
Only the I9305T maybe is different but we also have the I9305 and hardware should be the same.
Only difference from country to country is the Modem SOftware

Only the I9305T maybe is different but we also have the I9305 and hardware should be the same.
Only difference from country to country is the Modem SOftware

it's pretty reliable source, but I'd say it's 50/50 (50% says it does and 50% it doesn't)
how about samsung:

and if it'd have 1900 then shouldn't it work for highaltitude ?
Well I spent alot of today with AT&T both on the phone and in store. Their system will see the SIm card and that there is a phone, but it will say Unknown Phone. They tried to switch me to a 4G/LTE data plan to see if then 3G/HSPA etc would work but it kept getting stopped because it said my IMEI number is not right or unrecognized. No matter what, their system would not take the IMEI number. I finally got a tech on the phone to put in a correct IMEI that AT&T would recognize, however it still said Unknown phone and still therefore would not let him switch the data plan. I am still at a loss because I swear the specs Ive read are pretty much the same as my SGS2 for frequencies (other than /4GLTE etc) So after one week of having a cool new phone that is stuck with Edge data, I am going to have to get rid of it and go back to the SGS2. Sux, as I really like the new phone.
you are not alone.I bought a Gt-i9305 that came from france/orange before doing my homework.i am on t-mobile and a very slow 2g speed maybe i will sell mine also and get an us sg3.
