When I first bought this case, I suspected it might just be another of those generic cases that is not really made for the Nexus 7, but fits anyway, so it's called a Nexus 7 case.
HOWEVER, the Nexus 7 fits REALLY snugly in the case and does not move around once in it (llike so many other cases). All buttons and ports are easily accessible when the Nexus 7 is in the case, and the stand works as expected.
On some covers, the frame (narrow bits covering the bezel) 'lifts up', but this cover seems pretty sturdy and the tablet sits dead center, and all of the screen is easily accessible. Swiping up and down is not hindered by the cover as there is enough space between where the button of the screen ends and the frame starts.
What REALLY made me like this case after trying it was that they used a magnet on the front cover (so tablet can detect opening and closing of cover) that was strong enough for the table to detect when opening and closing the cover, but did NOT turn the screen off when you folded the front cover back (like so many other cases do). The stylus works as expected (though it seems more accurate than other Styli I have used, but may just be because it is still new), and being able to use it as a pen means I can carry one less pen in my laptop bag
This is the third case I have bought for my Nexus 7 (the first was similar but did not have the magnet in the front cover to enable auto on/off, even though it was advertised as such, and was also a little too big. The second was just a sleeve), and as long as the velcro strip that holds the tablet in the case does not wear too much over time, I doubt I will need to buy another case for a while.
Some people have said the power button is difficult to reach on this case, but I would have to disagree. Even with my chubby fingers, I can reach the power button. One tip though... if your case is open and the screen has turned off, simply close the cover and open it again and it will turn on the screen without having to touch the power button.
Pairing this case with a decent (but small) bluetooth keyboard makes for a much easier typing experience, without the need to get an expensive case with included keyboard. I personally have just bought this keyboard (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B005MJ6F80/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00) and even though it does not have Android specific keys, it works perfectly otherwise.
Case and stylus/pen cost £10.88, so not a bad buy in my opinion.
Uh, that case you reviewed that was a little too big, was it a folio case, and would it be snug if, say a TPU case was on the device? If so, can you direct me to details on it? I'd like a folio that doesn't make me take the case off. Thanks! -Ara

And another one for luck lol

Those aren't bad, but the case at the top of this thread is the one I truly covet.
The way for changing viewing angles on the LUV case doesn't appeal to me - the video review I watched
indicated that it was pretty flimsy when standing up.

Honestly, I feel the rubberized back cover will be hard to scratch or damage, so adding another layer there is somewhat pointless IMHO. However, a bumper to protect all the edges and the screen (if it's slightly raised) would be ideal for us. What do you guys think?
I'd like a flip cover (with the magnetic clip), but I feel like all flip covers are going to come with a back cover to hold it in place. Now, a rubber bumper with a flip smart cover would be amazing!
Anyways, any chance we'll see bumpers released for this badboy?
Personally, I'm quite disappointed with the accessory options thus far for the N7 considering the volume of units being sold. The I/O edition has been released for quite some time. Some of the big manufacturers (Incipio, Case-Mate, etc) should have released something by now.
I agree completely! I would love to have a bumper case that just goes around the edges and protects them with a flip cover (like the smartcover for the iPad).

A dream that can be easily come true with a little effort from Asus and Google
I completely agree, that's exactly what I would want. I simple bumper with a detachable front cover. Simple and slim.
Most people still haven't gotten their N7, I expect to see some "smart cover" type accessories around the middle of August.

anyone got a similar case and can provide a brief review?
It looks cheap and plasticy in the close up pictures.

I just purchased this last night. I'll post a review once it arrives.
Annoying when the product name says "Leather" and it's actually fake leather. Not that I expected the real thing for that price but it stinks of false advertising. Wish they had one like this in real leather, I like the design.

I received this case in the mail today. Below is my initial review.
Pros:
Thin
Doesn't cover the front bezel
Sleep function
Magnetic closure
Cons:
Sleep function is triggered if the cover is folded all of the way back
No micro-fiber type lining
I picked up this case because I was looking for a smart cover which didn't cover the front bezel of the Nexus 7. This case does the trick. The case fits the Nexus 7 perfectly while adding what I feel to be minimal bulk. While I don't think I will be using this case as a stand very often, it seems to do the job there too. The Nexus 7 felt quite stable when using the stand function and generally required a decent shove to make it tip over. The inclusion of the magnetic closure is nice so that the cover doesn't come open when placing in a bag for travel. All buttons and ports are exposed, and the holes in the back of the case line up well with the speaker.
My only concerns with the case are very minor. It would be nice if the inside of the case has some type of micro-fiber style lining, although I don't think this is a huge issue since I have a screen protector on my Nexus 7 anyway. I did find that if I fold the front flap all of the way back so that is is flat against the back of the case, that the magnet triggers the sleep function on the Nexus 7. I found that I can avoid this issue by leaving a slight gap on the left-hand side when folding the cover back.
Overall I am very pleased with my purchase and am glad I didn't have to wait any longer to find a good slim case for the Nexus 7.
I just saw a youtube video of this case today. Was thinking of getting one. Let me see if I can find the video.

It looks like the same case. Its not a high-end case by any means, but it does the job well for the price. So far I haven't seen any I like better.
I was just surfing amazon and found a case available that i hadn't seen before. It's by Devicewear, called The Ridge. I can't link to it as it's my first post, though i thought i'd give everyone a heads up.
Seems like an awesome case, with everything that I was looking for:
Slim profile, hard backing, folio cover, auto sleep/start, microfiber lining, decent price, available.
I ordered it and should be arriving tomorrow, i'll try to take some pics and have a short review soon if people are interested. I already have the poetic hardback, which is nice, but this one seems to be the perfect case for me.
That looks pretty nice, looking forward to your review.

Totally is a good marketing scheme. Made me realize that this case is in the market and I bought it because it looks like the best one for my needs available.
I looked up a review of their iPad case and they check out:

Quick Review and pics
Wow, I had no idea that me posting that would make it seem like I'm schilling for them. Not sure what I can say to have you guys believe otherwise, but oh well. I'm not affiliated with them in any sense.
Anyways, for those that would care, it came in today (yay Amazon next-day shipping!) and I took some ****ty cell-phone pics and have some initial impressions.
The Good:
Very slim profile, doesn't add much bulk at all.
While not real, the "vegan leather" does feel pretty good and grippy in the hand. Definitely better than the pu leather stuff.
The inner lining of the front cover has some sort of rubbery, felt-ish material that seems like it will protect pretty well against scratches n such.
All buttons, ports and speakers are well-exposed and have easy access.
I love the combo of hard case to protect the back and cover for the front.
Auto sleep/awake seems to work pretty well.
The Nexus does fit pretty snugly in the case, doesn't seem like it will pop out unless coaxed.
The little ridges in the front cover line up with a ridge on the inside edge of the case to prop it up at multiple angles. It seems really sturdy, and a lot less bulky than the giant deep ridges i have in my poetic hardback.
It also flips over for a pretty good typing angle.
The not so good:
The PU backing seems a little flimsy, I've never had one of these hard cases before so I'm not sure how sturdy they normally are, but it seems like it flexes kind of easily.
While the clamps on the top and bottom edges of the cover hold it in place pretty well, they are definitely pretty flimsy and don't "snap" like you would like them to. I can also see them getting in the way, it would have been nice if they would have found another way to keep the cover shut against the tablet, like a magnet or a clamp on the right side. At least it stays in place though.
Because the case is synthetic leather, it does have a chemical smell to it, which i'm sure will dissipate over time.
Overall, I'm pretty impressed with the case. I really wish the plastic was a bit sturdier, the poetic slimline from the pictures I have seen looks a little thicker. I really do like it, and I'm happy I made the purchase. If anybody wants more pics let me know and I'll do what I can.
Looks like the clips would get in the way if the front flap was folded all the way back like a book and then set on a flat surface. Correct?

They are noticable, but don't get in the way nearly as much as I would have thought. I have noticed, however, that with the back folded all the way back the magnet is strong enough to put the tablet back to sleep, so I have to put a finger in between to keep it on. Definitely annoying.
This is definitely one of the better looking cases for the N7. Its a little pricey though.

Looks like a great case except for this point, definitely a problem. I wonder if it's possible to take out the magnet somehow, I don't even care about the wake/sleep function much.

Is it possible to fold it in such a way that the clamps are facing up the back case (when folded back for reading), so that maybe they can snap onto the PU backing?
I guess it's a bit hard to explain but since the front cover extends all the way to the middle of the back case, is it possible to fold that part to an opposite direction (instead of folding the usual line along on the left edge of the case)
If this works, maybe it can avoid the problem you mentioned in another post, about the magnet being too strong and put the device to sleep when the front is folded back.

I don't think there's any way you can get the clips to face that direction, but I have found that if you keep the cover folded along the natural crease, forming a little triangle, I've been able to avoid the problem as well as giving you a nice little grip to hold onto. Thus far I am really enjoying the case. Although now part of me wants one of the Portenzo or Treegloo cases, they look really nice.
Been waiting a while to get this and it has finally arrived and the review is done.

It does look interesting. You mentioned a link in your review, but I didn't see one. Where did you get it? I did a search and didn't come up with anything. Do you think the magnetism will be a problem? I always wonder about that.
Thanks for all the case reviews! This one does look interesting..
Not bad, a TPU case with front protection, stand, and very thin. I am always worried about dropping it face first with a TPU case and this one solves that problem. But does the magnet interfere with GPS, S Pen?

I am now wondering if the stand of the Benks case can also be used in portrait mode as the Momax case.
all of the magnets are going to affect the s pens use as well as possibly damage your memory card
I recently got the brown Momax case, and after experimenting with it, there does NOT appear to be any effect on the S-Pen from the magnets in the case. This is after tinkering under a variety of circumstances. Overall I'd say I'm very happy with this case because it does not add bulk to my already large Note 2, and it uses a clever design to enable the device to stand on its own. I would definitely recommend it.

Hey,
can you easily flip the cover all the way back? In the case of typing, chatting, writing is it a problem having the cover hanging around when one-handed? does the cover wiggle too much?
Love this case and I have checked the youtube reviews (Olis4, Himesh123456789, Milkerz5) but they don't show the cover flipping all the way to the back... :/
Thanks in advance...
That's pretty clever - too bad the TPU case color doesn't come in black.
- Frank
I am considering buying this case, but I'm not sure about the magnets.
Do they interfere with the compass or the S-Pen when the flap is wide open or fully folded backwards (not in a stand position)?
Also, how is one-hand operation with this case on?
It's annoying funny how all the reviews omit such important aspects and only tell us about the design...

Sorry for the delay, I did not receive an email that someone replied here until just now. Anyways, yes, the cover flips all the way back to essentially become flat. I didn't have an issue with the cover hanging during one-handed operation. It didn't really wiggle too much either since the phone is secured on the back part of the case pretty nicely. It was my daily driver over Samsung's case for the phone. :good:
As to the magnets, I did not experience any interference although I have to admit that my use of the S-Pen was light. Tinkering and testing when I first got the case showed that there was no magnetic interference though. To expand on my level of one-handed operation - I have smaller hands and did not have an issue with the case. I would typically read Kindle on there and hold it in my left hand, my fingers would come around to the right side of the screen, and I was able to turn pages no problem. I never typed one-handed though, and I always type in portrait mode.
Hope this helps!
Thanks for the reply, it's very helpful.
How about the compass? Do you notice any significant deviation when the case is on w/ the flap in various positions vs when the case is off? For example, I would expect that the deviation (if any) is smaller when the flap is opened at 180 degrees, since the magnets are farther away from the phone, than in a fully folded position.
I'm finding myself using the navigation increasingly often, so it's important to have accurate sensor readings.
Again, thanks a bunch!
I would think that navigation software using gps signal only.

I think that the compass is used in pedestrian navigation (which I use), when you turn around in a spot. How else would it know the heading?
I too am interested in a definitive answer in how much the magnet effects spen and the compass.
I've also been looking at the zenus cases which don't use a magnet, but I'm unsure whether it can hold the phone up like a kickstand and it's a lot of money to gamble on if it doesn't.
So I picked a platinum case which seems like a re-branded Seidio, so it's not a bad case at all.
I have a concern and I did do some googling on Cell Phones and Flash Memory with magnetic fields. I've always been a firm believer you don't mix magnets and electronics. Everything I've read says it won't hurt anything with the flash memory nor the phone itself. My personal experience says otherwise. I had a magnetic pouch for once my for Samsung A990 and it caused weird screen discoloration when removed from the case. I also have had experience with another device and magnets. Two difference cases I bought for my Acer A100 which ended causing issues as well.
So really is it a good idea to keep a case with a magnet powerful enough to snap to my fridge around my phone?
Plenty of folks around here have been using a Platinum series or Surface since the day they came out without any ill effects. I've got a Platinum series case and I use it frequently, but I'll admit to using a TPU or folio-style case more often than not at home purely because I am very, very mildly concerned about the magnet. That said, it hasn't caused any distortion on my screen or anything like that.
Not an issue. Make sure to turn off under s-pen setting pwr management pen detection (when s-spen is in a holder or not) to avoid any issues with magnet interference.
Btw, I just got Seidio CONVERT which is Surface/Platinum with an extra protection shell on top of it. Just tested it out, took a ton of pictures, and will post a detailed review in a day or so. VERY IMPRESSIVE case. Defender was rushed in with lots of design faults. This one is a design perfection! And actually already sold out at Amazon where you can get it for $55 (which is actually 2 cases in a package, Surface and Convert kit on top of it). But anyway, expect a detailed review!!!
It really depends on the type of magnet and its strength if it will hurt electronics or not. I can't remember which ones are safe to use off the top of my head but a quick google search should turn up the answer. I know they are more expensive than a regular magnet so most (all?)cheap cases don't use them, but mid - highend cases *should* use them. I think it's a special kind of low strength neodymium magnet that doesn't effect electronics, but I'm not 100% positive on that. The magnet should be just powerful enough to hold the weight of the closure shut against gravity, but not strong enough to hold the closure shut against the weight of the device + gravity. So definitely no refrigerator magnets unless they are only designed to hold a sheet of paper and anything heavier will drag it down to the floor.
I like to break stuff!
Thanks! After my post I did a little more digging and found that some people seem to believe there is a dead spot with the spen even with the Seidio. I did my own experiment and noticed that the magnet is strong enough to hold a precision screw driver against it while I jiggled it. The screen responded to the magnet when held right up against it. I realize that I am not going to be holding it next to the screen daily or holding screw drivers. I ended up mixing the cheap Verizon cover with the holster and it seems to work well enough. I only planned on using the holster when I wear jeans anyway. plenty of room in dress pants.

I have a leather holster with 2 magnets that hold ot closed but the part where the phone is is shielded from the magnets by a sheet of aluminum sewn inbetween the leather panels. They also sewed one in the back panel as well to hold the shape of the holster as the leather is really soft. It makes a damn good holster, look and feel of soft leather and strength and protection of an aluminum box. And the aluminum doest affect signal as it actually has an antenna booster built into the aluminum plates. I actually get better signal near the holster. Although I can't remember where it came from since my dad originally bought it for the og note then ended up ordering a handmade one for like 200 $ and gave me this one. It has a sort of woven or carbon fiber texture to the leather. I'll get some pics of it later. The one issue it had was the belt clip wasnt riveted in so it came unstitched after a while of pulling it on and off, but I actually prefer using the belt loops on it now as it doesn't stick out as far anymore. Under a tshirt you can't even tell its there.
I like to break stuff!
Ive been using the best buy case since I got my note. I dont notice any spen interference. But I also only use the spen every so often.

Wouldn't magnet interfere with internal compass? Will it permanently affect it on long run?

I use the Best Buy Branded Platinum since November and there is zero problems
with the phone, S-pen or the compass. I also have a holster with a magnet to
keep it close and I never seen any issue.
It looks like this phone is very well shielded...
Thank you everyone for your input

Comes with the holster
Just a friendly FYI. Platinum is Seidio. The only difference is Seidio is the name on the product if you buy it online and Platinum is the name if you buy it at a store like Best Buy. Don't ask me why they have different names for the same products made by the same company, they just do lol.
