Mobile odin is rom flasher, just like pc odin. What you can do with pc odin, same you can do with mobile odin, without need of pc. Even i can say better then pc odin.
Titanium backp is backup tool for your data, like watever stuff you have installed.
You need both
Here short order how you can go.
Use titanium to backup data
Use mobile odin to flash rom
Wipe data (with safe kernel)
Restore data with titanium

One more..
U can flash kernel n modem using mobile odin..
and only tar extension that can flash through mobile odin for rom n kernel n bin extension for modem..

read app specifications and forum. its all there

What if there's a need to back up e existing rom before using Odin or mobile odin?
In case something goes wrong? Or does it mean 'starting from stock all over'?
Or does titanium perform full backup of rom aka system other than apps n data?
To backup complete rom + data Inc application use nandroid backup.
Titanium backup only apps and data not rom.

I went back to stock Open Europe KKA rom and flashed via Odin.
Previously I'd been on TeamRocket.
Some sites, like Getjar and Gameloft show my device as the I9220.
Surely Odin would have wiped everything? Anyway to revert? In about phone it says N7000.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk
Did you restore your TeamRocket Data using Titanium Backup in KKA??
No nothing was restored as I didnt root this time so cant use Titanium.

I think that smartflash wipes evrything during the procedure so there will be no data when you will enter cwm. So guess this won't work if you want to keep your data.

NANDROID ? Don't use stock recovery. Don't make nandroid backup for stock rom.
so how should i flash cwm recovery .
and which recovery is best suited for nandroid backups and comptability with all apps.
does it necessarily require me to install custom roms.

I am in same situation with a GT-S5570, it has stock rom and is rooted. I downloaded Clockwork Manager to it's SD card.
Then from stock Recovery manager I tried to install CWM from sd card. The screen got distorted and graphic looked awful.
Had to reboot and nothing got installed.
Tried Odin but it won't recognize my phone while in Downloading mode.
I want to install Cyanogenmod 10.1 Android 4.2........any ideas? I guess I need somekind of backup first, if I mess up and need to reinstall stock? Hard to do with stock recovery mode though.

To make it detect in odin you need drivers... install those by installing kies.... flash CWM from stock recovery only and not by using rom manager....

Apps can always be reinstalled in no time I think, problem is I can't install CWM from stock recovery, when selecting update from sd/zip or whatever it says, I pick the CWM file on my SD-card.
Then the graphic gets messed up and I can no longer see the menu clear.

before you flash cwm make sure its in the root directory of your sdcard... . So to say sd root is to say the topmost folder on the sdcard, which is just on the sd and not in a folder.
without getting odin recognize your Mobile you should not flash anything as if you get in any trouble it would be easy for you to flash the stock rom
and best and safest method to flash cwmr is to flash it through odin
you cannot backup stock rom with cwm recovery only custom one's can be backed up
to backup apps and data you should use titanium backup
I want to install ClockWork mod on my phone (Samsung i897 Captivate) so I can do a nandriod backup.
I don't want to lose anything on my phone.
Whats the best way of doing this?
(There r a few different ways depending on what android platform u r on. But here is one way...)
U will have to use Odin or Heimdall to flash a kernel that is made to run on the android platform u r on.
i.e. if u r on GB 2.3.5 i897ucKK4, u can use the KK4 Corn Kernel. I recommend version 7.0A
Once u flash the appropriate kernel, reboot into recovery and make a backup. ...Also a good idea to copy pics and other important stuff to ur pc.
Don't use Rom Manager because it does not work well with the Captivate.
And also Titanium Backup Pro is a great Investment in my opinion.
And the Stickied Threads will prove helpful as well.

I have the version that you have listed.
My goal is to install cyanogenmod on my phone but I want to do a Nandroid backup before I do so I can restore my phone back to the state it was in before CM install.
After u flash CM, in order to return to the backup u made while on KK4 (because of the different partitions, i.e. bml vs mtd) u would 1st have to Odin or Heimdall back to Stock KK4, Odin/Heimdall flash KK4 Corn Kernel, Reboot into Recovery and Restore ur backup.
Once u go to CM, u will have to Odin/Heimdall back to Stock KK4 in order to get to KK4. U cannot reboot into recovery while on cm and restore ur backup u made on kk4. If u try, a soft brick will more than likely occur.
(A nandroid backup has to be restored on the android platform/rom where u made the backup).
Its all because of the different partitions and file systems used in Stock firmware vs CM. Just the way it is.
Like i said previously, Titanium Backup Pro is a big help....especially if ur just goin back to stock firmware that u have root access on.
In the end if u r just wanting to backup ur apps and their data and then restore that after u flash CM, then TB Pro is ur answer.

I do not want to lose my call/text/internet history nor do I want to lose my application data (example Angry birds saved data, not the app itself).
Just use TB Pro for apps and data backup.
And find a reliable app on the Play Store for texts, call log, web history etc backup.

I got to thinking I am going to have to install CWM anyways. Could I install CWM and then run a Nandroid backup and then flash my CM Rom?
the only reliable way to install cwm from stock is to flash a kernel that includes cwm, via usb. the corn kernel 7.0a recommended by 4-2ndtwin is a safe way to do that. it doesn't touch your user apps and user data.
then you can do a nandroid backup from cwm, and go on to flash other roms via cwm, from zip files on your phone.
as noted, to keep your user apps and data for later roms, use Titanium Backup. only restore user apps and data, not system apps.
you cannot take a KK4 nandroid backup and restore it over a later CM rom. you will brick the phone.

Forgot about mentioning this Utility until i was making a post a lil bit ago...
If on Stock KK4...here is a [Utility]KK4 Easy Root by Red_81 that u can gain Root access through and also get the KK4 Corn Kernel version 7.0A that has CWM Recovery so that u can proceed with flashin ur rom of choice.
See post # 4 in the thread linked for a workin download...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26710533&postcount=1
U can use this method if desired, instead of using Heimdall or Odin to flash the KK4 Corn Kernel.
