[DEV] CM10 on ArchosG9 - Gen9 Android Development

If someone like to want try out basic running JellyBeans on his archos g9 device you can use my build.
Many things like camera, or accelerated video decoding/encoding doesn't work, also the sdcard access is not working (using vold binary from stock rom was not successful)!
(= Not for endusers, but for devs who are interested )
Working is:
* Wifi
* Audio
* GPS
* Graphics ( )

Needed kernel zImage:

Many thanks to JackpotClavin for your porting guide on CM9
(which was very helpful to start understanding how customized building works),
trevd for setup a CM10 repo which I used to start from and for developing 3G support on 4.0.4 and 4.1.1,
omegaRED7 for his support on 3G,
and last but not least: surdu_petru for his excellent work on modding and developing cool images for the archos device!!!
If you want to start hacking on this, use the following interesting repos as start:
Trevd's developer repo for the 3G stick:
https://github.com/trevd/huaweigeneric-ril
My CM10 config files:
https://github.com/Quallenauge/cm10-archos-g9
A note for the kernel:
Customized kernel is needed, because it provides the IPV6 mangle support, which is needed by netd service.
For me, the video acceleration is the most important thing, but due closed drivers and only a little understanding of the topic, I feel that I'm not able to solve this problem.

Hi !
Very cool ! You started a great job....I hope that with our dear developers you will be able to successfully finish !
THANKS ! & Good luck !!! :good:

Hi.
I was about to start looking into the sdcard issue..... Then my sdcard slot decided to fail, I think the spring has gone, I'll "Jaff" it in with some Rilza Card later on. I'll take heart that at least my device is failing one component at a time and not all at once..
With regards hardware, have you had a look around at the open source stuff at OmapMedia.org, I'm just cloning their android repo now and also linaro have done a lot of work in open sourcing and optimizing some of the TI Omap stuff..... They're next on my repo sync
I also think Scholberts' hardware thread may help as a good reference.
There's other stuff, lots of other stuff but I think having a go at the hardware seems lib a good starter for ten.
Hack On!

With some luck, we can use the following:
http://git.omapzoom.org/?p=platform/hardware/ti/omap4xxx.git;a=shortlog;h=refs/heads/p-ics-mr1-release
Maybe we must patch the archos kernel for that....

Awesome work! Instead of everyone working on his own rom (we have AOKP, CM9, Ubuntu, ...) everyone should team up and make a good Jelly Bean rom.
Just out of curiosity, how is this rom's performance?

Cool thing! Can you post some photos pls?!
Thanks!!

I've been trying to get this to boot today, I'm using the multiboot initramfs and your zImage, but I'm stuck at a black screen. Should I be using the latest stock one?
---------- Post added at 11:19 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:09 AM ----------
Stock 4.0.7 initramfs is stuck at ARCHOS splash screen, not looping (as in there being no ext4 file) but just stuck

have you the initramfs.cpio.lzo ?

Don't worry, it works now. A combination of bad files and silly mistakes were the issue

i use the initramfs.cpio.lzo of surdru
when i lauch the SDE, i view the CM9 animation
How long does the animation the first time ?
I use the official SDE not the multiboot

Sounds to me like you forgot to wipe. Get adb open and run these commands:
adb shell rm -r -f /data/*
adb push archos.ext4.update /data/local/archos.ext4
If you have an .aos image installed alongside it:
Wait for $ to reappear (or the path if you're using Windoze) and then power off the device by holding power for 10 seconds
Boot into recovery and select Developer Edition
If you don't:
adb reboot
Then it will boot, or at least it did for me

WiFi works
Videos are working with VPlayer using its armv7 software codecs: (here playing Big Buck Bunny streaming as an mp4 file)
Music playing using Google Play Music and their streaming service (wrong album art though )
Showing the Jelly bean notification expansions with Google Play Music's latest version:
What is good and working for me:
WiFi
Bluetooth
GPS
Music
Video via VPlayer
It's surprisingly fast, and I have possibly caused that, by setting Force GPU rendering on, disable HW overlays on and making the CPU governor to "performance", and it's smooth (butter is working?)
What's bad/annoying
Camera isn't working. Not much of an issue, but face unlock would be nice to have
External SD isn't working - causes issues with media FC and apps failing to install from Play Store (error with SD or USB storage)
Talk force closes due to camera issues
Other than that, all is good. I'll probably make a video tour from the device and possibly an installation video if people are interested.

[ROM][JB][AOSP][ALPHA] Android 4.1.1 - Jelly Bean - [GT-P7510][SCH-I905]

I've compiled android 4.1.1 for the GalaxyTab 10.1. It's really EXPERIMENTAL, only for those curious to see Jelly Bean working.
NOT WORKING
- Front-facing camera
- 3G & 4G (SCH-I905)
WORKING
- Rear camera (GT-P7510)
- Wi-Fi (thanks to pershoot)
- Audio (thanks to pershoot)
- HW accelerated video (thanks to rmcc)
- Google Now
- Network based location
Pretty much everything else, but things may fail.
Remember that I'm not responsible if something happens to your tablet, flash this at your own risk.
Backup everything you think you'll need in case something goes wrong and a factory reset is needed.
All credit for the kernel goes to pershoot, it's pretty much the same from ICS with minimal changes.
CM10 OR AOSP?
CM10 is a customized ROM with additions to the system: About
AOSP (Android Open Source Project) is android in pure form, just straight out from Google: About
Which one to choose is your decision.
This ROM includes a few additions from CM10, just the necessary so it won't deviate much from AOSP. This additions are:
- Extended boot menu (long pressing power button).
- Performance settings (to control overclock and other settings without an external app).
- Kill app back button.
- Toggle system bar (hide/show system bar - merged from sgt7)
BEFORE INSTALLING
Check that you have the last version of your recovery, and that it's the right one for your model. If you don't do this you'll get assert error 7 when trying to install.
For CWM, go to this thread: [Recovery] ClockworkMod - 5.5.0.4
For TWRP, go to this thread:[Recovery] Team Win Recovery Project (TWRP) - 2.2.0
A full wipe is recommended, also formating /system . (Do this before reporting problems)

BUILD YOUR OWN
For those interested in building this ROM, you can try my Linux script. It doesn't set the build environment (gcc, git, java, etc), that depends of your distro. But it should make things easier.
Code:
git clone https://github.com/maplesci/jellybeanBuilder.git ~/development/scripts/jellybeanBuilder
You can change the work directories, and be sure to change the paths for the java exports.

Yeah, that was me playing around and since it doesn't work at the moment, I didn't change it back. eth0 doesn't work either. The problem is that the module doesn't work (at boot it won't load, and loading it manually doesn't help).

Alright, it's definitely smoother than ICS, but input lag is still ridiculously high. Guess its a hardware thing. I'm gonna try out some of the old troublesome apps, see if they're any smoother. Maybe I won't throw this into the death pile.

tried and find some lag on the rom i kind of fell ics a little more "stable" i don't know what word to use but of course it's only alpha and you know i am pretty sure that once samsung release the official ics this will be fantastic as most of the lags and problems on ics are just about it.

Introduction
Dear fellow xda members,
Few months back when i gave my Xperia Mini Pro to my girlfriend and bought HTC Legend for myself, i'm a bit disappointed to see there are just a few choices of ROM for this device. But now, we have more flavors of ROM. Now, i'm going to share one more ROM which also one of the ROM that i'm dying to see to be able to run in our device (apart from miuiv4), which is AOKP.
This ROM is my personal ROM, stable and faster than MIUIv4 with much more customization and usefull options than CM9. I have tested it for several days with a very heavy usage and i'm very happy on how it served me. However, i don't dare to claim it is the one for everyone. If you like it, then i'm happy for you. If you hate it, you can leave it. If you can help me and the others on getting it more better, then you are more than welcome. Please don't PM me for any patches/mod/bug fixes etc that you made for it but instead, PLEASE POST IT HERE so that i can link your post to the credits section which to ensure that any contribution you made will be recognized.

Long press on the "settings icon" in notification to go to settings. Long press on the toggle button to go to the corresponding setting page.
Go to Settings -> ROM Control -> Tools -> Start-up tweaks, tick on the box to enable it and choose any tweaks you want to be started on boot by ticking on the corresponding boxes (enable sysctl and recommended and enable SD Boost is not recommended as i didn't test it much, unless you know what you do and choose the correct setting. Even without the SD Boost enabled, the ROM already very smooth.)
As usual, set Background Process limit to At Most 4 Processes under Developers options
If you have problems with Play store after applying custom dpi in ROM Control (i have tested it with normal play store and working just fine though), please apply patched play store from my Miuiv4. Will upload/attach it here later.
Disable ring delay in phone setting to make your call ringing immediately

Thanks for the encouragements.
Right now i'm trying to include the new camera which a bit faster and have burst mode. Once finish that, will try to remove any unwanted apk before trying to put any extra tweaks, testing applying themes and other things. Just got permission from the dev of ROM that i take as aokp base so i think i can release it earlier than i expect.
Good to hear

Havent test it as i didnt use it frequently, but in zeubea's cm9 (which is this ROM based on), i got very poor results, accuracy of 1900m, might be because of my location (borneo island) or something else but i will test it.

Yes, the basics is all working fine even in the initial stage. All obvious bugs has been fixed. As i have mentioned in post #3, im on stability testing for now as i intended to use this ROM as my primary ROM.
I have used this ROM under heavy usage for 2 days without any single reboots, tonight i will do stress test on it and tomorrow once i get back to the office, i will clean up everything (and implement the OTA updater if possible) and upload it. So, i can say you can expect it to be shared here by Tuesday 28 aug.

[ROM][14/1/13][4.1.2][4.2 MOCKUP] CyanogenMod 10 - 4.2 Apps [HQ Video fixed]

Before we begin, I didn't build this, it was built by Quallenauge, in his thread here and stevemp, in the same thread
Features
- Built on 4.1.2 CM10
- CyanogenMod Settings bundled
- Includes Theme Chooser (4.2 version)
- Includes 4.2 Gapps and some system apps
- 4.2 fonts, sounds and wallpapers
Features over Quallenauge's CM10:
- 4.2 declared in build.prop, it's sort of like a 4.2 mockup
- All video is fixed
- Camera is now detected as nonexistent, so apps like Google Talk don't force close anymore and Camera isn't in the app drawer
- Fixed vold.fstab by default (SD model version)
- CM10 boot animation by default
- GoogleNow works by default
- Removed not needed apps (like ROM Manager) - Some, like Apollo and DSP manager are included but not installed, just install them from the Optional Apps folder and you'll have them back
- Added SRS for better sound
- Using SuperSU rather than Superuser (better support)
Changelog:
14/1/13
- HQ/HD video now works (YouTube, TV Catchup, Netflix etc.) - Thanks stevemp for that!
- Updated more apps
- Fixed force close when you tap date in the pop-up notifications
- No signal icon in system bar not there by default (you can apply themes and it won't appear now)
- Removed ArchosFixer (not working and not needed now)
- Removed Nova Launcher, install it from the Play Store if you want it again
13/1/13
- Android base now 4.1.2
- Newer CM base with new features and fixes including:
- Updated launcher
- Updated apps
- CM file manager
- Fixed quick settings
- Battery % options without my dodgy theme
- Updated gapps & other internal apps
9/12/12
- Some lib fixes, fixed offline video
- New ThemeChooser
- Bundled Archos Fixer theme, battery % and no signal image fix
- Made it OTA ready (GooManager, waiting on a response for my account there)
- System apps updated
Download and Install Guide
Download latest zip from here:
http://goo.im/devs/Quinny898/archos_g9
Extract and follow instructions
Old way:
1.) Backup all your apps, this will wipe your apps and app data [Titanium Backup will do this just fine]
2.) Either copy the archos.ext4 file via normal USB to the device's internal memory or use the adb commands:
Code:
adb push archos.ext4 /data/media
3.) Reboot into archos recovery (turn off your device and power on whilst holding volume down)
4.) Select Format System > Reset Android
5.) Go back to the main screen of the recovery and select Developer Edition Menu > Flash kernel and Initramfs
6.) A drive will appear on your PC, copy the other two downloaded files to it
7.) Reboot your device from recovery
8.) Hit the thanks button
It will boot CM10 now
Troubleshooting Installation
Stuck on the archos screen? Not booting?
Try this:
(You need to have a PC with adb installed)
Open command prompt/terminal and run
adb shell
(Shell will come up, enter the following: [At every new line, hit enter])
Code:
stop
cd data
mv local .local
mv media .media
rm -r *
mv .local local
mv .media media
reboot
Device should reboot and boot now
Thanks to surdu_petru for this mini-guide
What's working & not
Working:
Everything but the stuff in not working
Not working:
Camera
Screen off animation (works but buggy)
Old versions:
v1: archos.ext4 - 512.00 MB

Optional Apps
There are some apps that can be restored that aren't in the build by default, like the stock browser. To install them:
Go to /system/Optional Apps in a root browser
Read the .txt file there
Nice Work There Quinny! :good:
I might revisit this build soon, we should be able to get the HQ Video working with the 3.0.21 Archos Kernel.
I thinking the Camera Should be possible aswell although there still some dark voodoo sh*t in that department that I've not figured out yet!
Was really excited when I saw this... flashed and get a bootloop on the CM animation.. tried a reset, reflash, format, reflash but still unable to get it to work.
Any ideas? Would a logcat help?

Support Post
THE GENERAL TALK / HELP THREAD / DISCUSSION / CM 10.1
READ THIS FIRST, THEN PROCEED FURTHER
If any of the users post any question that is mentioned in this FAQ post, u r post will be reported to mod's. So this is strictly for developers, people who can contribute for projects, curious-freaks [like me ] only.
This ROM is not for u =
1. if u keep bi*tching about in the thread and post fix this and fix that.
2. if u feel, this ROM will make u look cool among ur buddie's.
Dev's are really trying hard to run an elephant on a tight rope with a unicycle, here so as to talk in a figure of speech .
So let them do their stuff, and wat our stuff to do is ? Just test and report bugs only.
Another small but important thing is, I know we all are very happy, excited to use CM 10.1 on our device, but understand, we have very less/cheap hardware to hardly run ICS 4.0+ on our device, but these good people are making run not just Android 4.2.1 but the CyanogenMod version of it, which is quite heavy to run on devices, which is difficult to run on big/good phones like Galaxy S.
So =
1. Be patient
2. Dont post useless stuff. Dev's already know more than u do.
3. Dont spam thread by posting "thanks and etc"
If u really wanna help them, press the thanks buttons and leave
So lets begin on a good note and Wish the Dev's a very gud luck
Hello All
This Post contains =
1. Flashing Instructions
2. Tutorials
3. All the future mod's for this ROM by me and other users :good:
4. Any Performance packages
5. Any Theme's
6. And other miscellaneous stuff
7. Link to Lite-GAPPS [SEE POST #5]
==================================================
FLASHING INSTRUCTIONS
1. Download the ROM from above post #1
2. Put it on ur SD-Card
3. Boot into recovery
4. Wipe data
5. Wipe cache
6. Install zip from sd-card
7. Wait till the ROM flashes
8. Wipe data again
9. Wipe cache again
10. Wipe dalvik cache
11. Wipe battery stat's [optional, quick battery callibration]
==================================================
TUTORIALS
1. How to LOGCAT and help Dev's fix bugs =
A simple/basic/noob friendly tutorial for grabbing a logcat...i know there are many tut's on xda, but its simple to see here.
So here goes =
1. install android SDK [www.android.com]
note = if u want to use apktool and other smali-backsmali tools, u need to install the API packages too
[Different Package
GB = API 10
ICS till 4.0.4 = API 14, 15
JB 4.1.2 = API 16
JB 4.2 and above = API 17 and above].
2. install java JRE [java official website]
3. java SDK [java official website]
note = java 6 or 7...anything is ok
4. then open command prompt
5. u should know the path of ur sdk, where u installed it.
example my path is =
C:\android\platform-tools
so in the platform-tools directory, the adb, fastboot and logcat and other applications are located...so finally u need to browse to that path through cmd on ur pc
6. then while in the path type this =
adb devices
7. the above command gives u the list of devices attached.
8. its basic and very important to enable android debugging in ur phone before doin all this.
9. then type this
adb logcat
or
adb locat > logcat.txt
10. adb logcat generates a live session of logcat in cmd prompt itself.
and second command generates a remote logcat to a text file called logcat. U can name it watever u want, like for example, if the problem is phone app is force close, then instead of logcat, type phoneFC.txt.
This text file will be located in ur platform-tools folder.
11. so if u want to report about a force close, just simulate the problem of force close when the logcat command is running and ur phone is connected to pc
12. then simply attach it here for debugging and fixing purposes
Gud luck
2. Some basic ADB Commands
Code:
[b]adb devices = shows the list of devices attached
adb root = adb gains the root access to ur device
adb remount = remounts the system partition for development/modding purposes
adb pull <remote> <local> = for pulling apk's from android system to our pc
adb push <local> <remote> = for pushing apk's into android system from pc
adb install apkname.apk = installs an app via adb to /data/app partition
adb reboot = command to reboot device using adb
adb reboot recovery = command to reboot device into recovery mode using adb
adb logcat > logcat.txt = command to produce a logcat

2. App2sd/S2E memory increasing scripts = currently N/A
3. Adrenaline Engine = HERE

Unofficial CM10.1 for Dell Streak 7

This thread is for the development progress of the Dell Streak 7 running Jelly Bean Android 4.2.1 using Cyanogenmod 10.1 as the basis.
It is now being moved up a version, from Alpha 1.0 to Beta 1
This reverts us to the ICS-B4 partition layout. The reason being is that Dell decieded to be different and it causes problems with the sdcard fuse daemon. But switching to this layout, it allowed the sdcard daemon to work correctly and give us more space.
Developers:
DerArtem - CM10.1 Port
giveen - CM10 (10.1) Port / Kernel Updates
geramy - Various Tweaks and help with getting sound on CM10 working
DJ_Steve - Original Developer and teacher
Thanks:
Cyanogenmod team - for making the port actually pretty easy
geramy - for all your incredible help getting sound going.
snargledorf - basically rebuilding CM9 for the Dell Streak 7 , to which I was able to base my work off of.
DJ_Steve - for teaching me and all the tips and putting up with my annoying questions
My wife - giving me grace and putting up with the hours I put into this
(oops forgot a couple people)
_motley - for clues onto framebuffers and overlays failing, without him it would have never booted
Borkata - for help with wifi and other little hints.
pengus77 - for helping me fix wifi on CM10.1 (and invertly new changes on CM10 had the same problem)
Run the appropriate flashing .bat, start the device up all the way to the lockscreen.
Reboot to Recovery, go to Mount > Use Internal Storage > Install > your_Android_4.2.2_gapps.zip (go download the gapps for Android 4.2.2)

Well this is what you say:
Run the appropriate flashing .exe or .sh, start the device up all the way to the lockscreen.
Reboot to Recovery, go to Mount > Use Internal Storage > Install > your_Android_4.2.1_gapps.zip (go download the gapps for Android 4.2.1)
Well, start the device the first time, I didn't get a lock screen, not sure what it was but not a lock sreen for sure. Do you really mean more than what you've stated? IIRC, I never get the lock screen on the first boot up but it's been some time though.
Keyboard input in ES File Explorer is real flakey, it closes after one keypress.
Weird. I must say its weird that you didn't get it right away.

I'm charging my streak to prepare for the flash
I'm going to give an inverted gapps package a go and will report back on its success.
JusTun Bean aroma installer version 6.2(for 4.2.1)
Has worked well on my GNex and og Evo running variants of cm10.1
Giveen,
I do think it would be wise to post a direct link to a confirmed working gapps package that you suggest. That way you limit bug reports to a standardized install.
Cuts down on peeps like me who try to throw a wrench into a working machine and then report issues brought on by themselves

flashed without a hitch, love to see that CM boot animation!
I did not go directly to the initial lockscreen, device started at home screen with the featured highlights of the launcher. i simply hit the power button to switch the screen off and then back on to see the lockscreen
i did attempt to use power button, reboot, recovery.... just rebooted system and back into CM.
I do not have an external SD card for the time being(micro card adapter is stuck in locked mode) si needed to copy a plethora of 4.2.1 mods to test out right to the internal storage. Including regular gapps, inverted gapps package, a "darker mod" which modifies the system framework to have backround be black instead of the typical gray you see (setting backround as an example) I've also got a 4 zip audio mod that adds some libs and stuff, works great on my Gnex... hopefull will do just fine here
just wanted to point out that MTP is not enabled by default. you need to open settings, storage, click on the 3 button menue icon, goto usb computer options, then select MTP in order for the computer to see the device and storage.
just finished copying files over, going to go back at this recovery stuff..... wish me luck!
(i will do one mod at a time to determine what's working and not, elliminate errors)

also wanted to point out
new to 4.2.1 is hidden "developer options" in settings
click "About Tablet" at the bottom of settings, then click repeatedly on the build number, i think it takes like 7 clicks? and you get a toeast telling you how many are left when you are close
this will unlock developer settings and performance settings in the main settings screen
that way you can enable usb debugging, screen stay awake, hold back button to kill..... change the transition speeds, all that jazz!

was able to power off device, volume+ and power to get to recovery options, selected update from update package, TWRP!
also notice you've got v2.4.1.0 going, most upto date
well played sir!
off to the gapps
<3
Yeah, I was actually done fixing wifi this morning, but recovery had to be fixed. Our old recovery.fstab didn't match up things, and then I was having a problem getting gapps to flash. Turned out I had to add more space in system partition and tell Android that it was there.
Hm...there may be a SoD bug.
Dos this include the new kernel that DerArtem was working on?

DerArtem wasn't really working on the kernel yet. We were able to get all this done with very few kernel modifications.
Its still up to him if he is going to do a kernel port. I do know that right now he is really busy with work and will be traveling soon.
i can see and connect to my router, but it keeps having no internet. any solutions? and im using my wifi with laptop so i know i do have a live connection. lol

Without logs, it could be anything.
i tried the JusTun Bean inverted gapps package, seems to have worked just fine similar to how its worked on my other devices. I was letting play store restore my apps, but it was bogging down the system and fairly tedius, so i stopped that, copied over my TiTanium Backup folder from my Gnex and am restoring about 90 apps(app only, no data) and it's moving slow but steady. i'm letting it sit on the dock with stay awake so that it's holding good battery and plugging away at the restores.
i did try the audio mods i had that say they are for any 4.2.1 build, but they failed during install(error 7) maybe it had something to do with system already being mounted while i tried? will give it a go later on once i've gotten a good base with all my apps loaded and can make a twrp backup and then will mess with things from there
aside from some serious lag(granted, ive been running the thing hard!) it's damn good to see CM10.1 on the Streak!
