I think you can do it manually and move the folder to ex sd card, CWM can still read it there.

By Default its backed up on External SD Card. For internal you have to choose Backup on Internal SD Card

ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.1.0 will not mount /sd-ext and now I cannot get my ROM installed on to the phone.
everything inside the phone has been formated
I think the next step should be to update recovery to the latest version and see if it recognizes the sd card. If this is the case I'm not real clear how to go about doing this. , or if there is an alternative way to load a ROM.
Any help would be appreciated
As an alternative u could flash (through Odin) a Dev Kernel that has CWM baked in, reboot into CWM and flash ur Rom from there. Ur choice of Kernel is dependent on what Rom ur wanting to go to... Froyo, Gingerbread, i897, i9000, etc. [as a side note, if u want a gingerbread rom, u will need gingerbread bootloaders]
I'm not sure how to flash through Odin (ill look that up) any other recovery on my phone at this point, i've always had a rom installed any time I change or update a recovery.
Let us know how it turns out.
Why are you trying to install a Rom from the external SD card? From cwm, click on mounts and storage, mount usb, copy your Rom to the internal sd card
Sent from my Inspire 4G
can you explain with some more detail the process of coping the rom to the internal sd card? I know that cwm can recoginze the internal sd card and if I get the rom on there I'm sure I can get this phone working.

reboot to recovery
plug phone into computer
'mounts and storage'
'mount usb storage'
copy rom of your choice from your computer to the drive that now shows up on your computer
unmount
in cwm recovery, browse to INSTALL ZIP FROM SDCARD
point it to the rom you just copied to the internal sdcard
confirm
after flash reboot...new rom
Thanks to Pirateghost & For2ndTwin for you input. Pirate, what you suggested worked like a champ and I now have the phone working.
I have a backup of my phone made with xRecovery (system, data, cache.img), I put them in xRecovery folder on my SD card but when I try to restore it with xRecovery option on ClockworkMod it says "Couldn't open directory. No files found"
Please help
If the files are in the folder, maybe try to recover them using Xrecovery instead of CWM?

How do I replace Clockworkmod back with xRecovery when my phone boots?
I'm pretty sure there's tutorial abt that. I'm using the app so i can't search for it... try searching. I'll try and look for that thread as well.

copy paste your backup data to CWM folder\backup if you want to restore from CWM
as well as xrecovery
Use "X8toolbox" to install dual recoveries. i.e you get both CWM and Xrecovery.
You can NOT use Xrecovery to restore backups made from CWM and vica-versa.

Cannot use this program, phone turns itself off 10 secs after I enter PIN so cannot stay connected to computer for long enough.

But there is a option in CWM for restoring xRecovery backups?
have you checked that you out the data on the right place?
I mean in the backup folder
Can anyone tell me what, if anything, I should do about this error which appears after restoring a Nandroid backup? The phone seems to be working ok so far. I've done Nandroid backup and restore several times without errors before but obviously something has changed.
Error while restoring /sdcard/.android_secure!
/tmp/recovery.log was copied to /sdcard/clockworkmod/recovery.log. Please open ROM Manager to report the issue.
I cannot see any file called "recovery log" in the /sdcard/clockworkmod folder. There is a file called "recovery-update.zip".
I tried uninstalling/re-installing ROM Manager and then making and restoring a new nandroid backup but the result was the same. The backups are to the internal sd card.
I'd be grateful for any advice. I tried trawling around the forums for some hours as this seems to be a widely discussed issue but cannot find any clear explaination of the cause or fix.

do you use an external sd?
check if there is a clockworkmod folder in that.
Yes, there is a Clockworkmod folder on my ext/sd card. I wanted to do Nandroid backups there but the option to Use External Storage is greyed out on the settings page.
Right now, the only Nandroid backup I have in on the int/sd card

which settings page ?
in CWM you need to go to backup & restore and choose backup (this will backup to external SD).. there is another option to select backup to internal SD
I'm using ROM Manager (Premium) and under the settings there's an option to use external sd card but it's greyed out.

Use CWM directly to make backups to your desired storage
Can you tell me where to get CWM? I can only see ROM Manager on the Google Play site. I understand that RM is really just a front end for CWM but I'd have assumed the functinality would be the same.
Thanks again for the reply
if you are having hydracore the cwm will be already there. It's a recovery. you need to boot into recovery mode.
vol up + power + home
In as few words as I can muster.
I recently tried to back up my current ROM CheckRomV6 using CWM. In attempting so the following occurs.

I need to get this fixed so that I can begin the progress change my rom. What is causing this? I'm thinking it's the kernel, but to be frank I really am at a loss. I'm still rather inexperienced with all this. Any suggestions? (I have searched.
You're probably using CWM or a ROM manager to do a backup
Try rebooting in recovery and use the option (Backup & Restore) to do a backup, use .tar format if available in the menu
Backing up the ROM doesn't require a safe kernel, but restoring a backup does
Best of luck

I just tryed that. Not. Good. This has officially gone over my current know how.
CWM won't let me select anything. Regardless if I scroll up or down ( to try to select Backup & Restore) The cursor moves... then the screen "blinks" black... and then my cursor is back where it originally was at (reboot). I need to make sure that this isn't a deeper problem before I flash something.
I am open for suggestions.
whats the kernel you on?

you could try a different kernel for you rom
Hey, I'm new to this forum and to android. I have the Samsung Galaxy S Advance GT-I9070, it has JB 4.1.2 rooted, and I've installed the CoCore-E 6.2 cwm kernel. I want to install the Pure Vanilla mod, but my problem is that when I'm on recovery mode I can't backup my current rom because the external SDcard is not mounted. On the recovery mode there is an option to mount the SDcard but whenever I trie to mount it, it says "error mounting /sdcard". Sorry if this question has been asked before, I just couldn't find the answer I'm looking for. It would be really nice if you could help a noob out. Thanks in advance .

u don't need to mount sd to take a backup. just go to backup and restore and take a backup!
and pure vanilla is not a mod, its a rom!

Do you see anything from external sd? If not, you need to repartition it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/SD_card_partitioning

Yes, the external sdcard is mounted when on Android, and I'm able to transfer stuff on it. I've formatted it to fat32 but no change, should I repartition it anyway ?
Repartitioning it to FAT fixed the problem, now my sd is mounted when on cwm recovery. But when I started a backup it was going pretty well until it stopped and said "Error while making a backup image of /data!". I guess the univers is against me installing this rom .

I found the problem, I had too many apps and my sd was only 1GB. I uninstalled some apps and tried to backup with a 2GB sd and it worked perfectly. Anyway thanks for trying to help. Have a nice day sir.
