Messed up and need help with brick - Motorola Droid 4

I was running 208 ics, and wanted to jump to 217 ics with the new tool for ics only. Ran the tool with the associtated flash file and the update failed. The phone would do nothing but go into stock recovery, so like an idiot I did a factory reset. If there is way to recover the phone please let me know. Thanks.

Just fast boot back and try again.
Make sure you are using the right kernel and have it named correctly, ICSFIX.IMG iirc (though I'd check the instructions)

The program won't connect to the phone anymore. RSD will, but it fails to rewrite the OS

Just got it to connect. I replaced the IMG file with the 213 version, of which I already have the update associted with that IMG file on my SD card. Hopefully it will work.

Looks like a go at this point. Appreciate the help.

When you toggled to safe mode, which.toggle option did you select? One will back you up and the other one won't I don't believe.

I just did toggle safe system after done it says safe system is now enabled I would flash ics I think just want to reboot but just making sure I didn't screw anything up while in recovery

I didn't flash any roms just rooted running the exploit and then enabled toggle safe system so I should probably just reboot and be fine but I just want to make sure
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Once you toggle to safe, then you flash ics. Even if it didn't back up your original system, the worst that should happen when going back to your normal system is that it will take you back to a fresh install and you will need to set your accounts back up and reinstall your apps

If you don't flash ics (or any rom) when your in safe mode and reboot your phone, it won't load because there isn't a version of android there.

I believe I have mine in internal. I think you can install it from either location.
You may want to clear the cache and stystem data before flashing if you didn't. Sometimes that helps.

Rsd Lite, download it. Download original firmware which is on a thread here. Put phone in fastboot, hook up to a computer, flash the software.

make sure phone is at least 50% battery (or 100% just to be sure).
Be sure rdlite and fxz (stock firmaware) reside both within your hard drive (i used to pull those both from an external HDD) if by any chance the flash process is interrupted in the middle of a specific action, you might be exposed to brick your phone.
Tried this several times...get unknown fastboot error. Any ideas? I made sure I had the correct firmware.

Could be several things. First thing I'd try is s different computer. Idk why but I have heard of people fixing this issue that way. Also make sure you are flashing to what shipped on this phone. Not what you are on now

Use the firmware from the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1853522
and use the edited xml file from this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33050269&postcount=14
That should do the trick.
Aftet replacing xml file it says no files. Don't know what I am doing wrong. I'll keep at it. Thanks for your help.

Did you make sure to unzip the xml file? Also, which firmware are you trying to flash? The xml is from the last update (77.12.22 on AT&T). If you are trying to flash an older firmware or are on Bell I can edit the correct xml file and upload after I get off work today.
Sent from my MB886 using xda premium
Tried to flash the one in the post that was put up in your response to me. I did unzip the xml file. When I replace the xml file and try to flash in rsd lite is when I get the error. If I open the file...the whole thing is empty.
Sent from my MB886 using xda premium
I'll reupload the xml file when I get home. You said you used the firmware in the post. When you click the link in the post it should list 3 firmwares. 1 is for Bell and the other 2 AT&T. The AT&T ones are 7.7.1Q-115 and 7.7.1Q-144. The 115 is the original firmware the phone was shipped with and 144 is the recent update. The xml file is from the update. Which one did you use?
If you are still having problems flashing send me a pm with the apks you deleted. I'll send you the ones you need and you can push them to the proper directories manually.

No problem. Someone else got stuck in sticky bit fastboot too, but I'm not sure how to correct that. If the files are still missing just shoot me a pm with a list of the missing files. I can pull them from my Atrix and send it over. You may be able to push them manually as long as your rooted.

Hi there!
I'm having the exactly same issue. I've tried flashing both firmwares (115 and 144) and always get error in RDS. Right now every time I turn off and turn on the phone again, it goes straight to the fastboot screen. It says:
Fasboot Reason: Sticky bit factory_fastboot
Anyway I'm still able to reboot the phone with the volume up+down combo, then I have to select Normal powerup in order the phone actually starts. All works fine once it's started but it don't get back to the stock rom. Making a factory reset or wipe data from stock recovery neither seems to work. Actually It even have installed some personal apps such Google Chrome or it still have root that I earlier applied.
If I want to try flashing the 115 firmware first, which line I need to edit on the XML file to avoid RDS errors?
Any help would be great!

I really don't know. I tried this but when attemp to edit the xml from the 115 firmware it doesn't have such line of code.
worked
had to flash with rsd lite 6.1.4 instead of 5.6
Those who have problem in flashing latest ICS stock ROM via RSD,try replacing 7.7.1Q-144_MB886_MR1-22_SIGNED_CFC.xml inside folder to THIS. Just open the zip and replacing it.

It is the Odin version I have used,
One more note now, am not sure if that is normal if not.but after the latest flash ( preceded by a data wipe and format ) I can now see zip file I have placed on sdcard but can't access them for flashing and/or ad new zip files from pc
In cwm do a factory reset, wipe and format system and data and then boot. I'm hoping that will solve the problem.

Am trying to get a new ROM flashed, but when the device powers up [ without me going through the wizard ], i can't write anything to SD from my PC.
Any info around here about flashing CM or AOKP using ODIN for this I957 ?
Not with Odin that I'm aware of. All are zip files and would go thru cwm. If you get only to the Samsung logo, my experience has been a factory reset usually gets you past that and if that doesn't work flashing the stock rom with Odin does. And I'd flash the honeycomb rom and bring it back to they way I bought it, then upgrade to ics

I should mention something that has gotten me worried, i flashed a TWRP recovery to check if the touch would work there, but it didn't.
Not sure if i should be worried about HW now, or try another TWRP for instance? Or perhaps TWRP shares another flawed tab wide configuration with the Android image ?
It's not twrp, I use it on my tab and it Works fine. If you were the only one who has this problem I'd say hardware for sure. But at least one other person has the same problem after updating to ics. It seems like there something with the firmware interfacing with the touch screen.

And this was my first time to flash any ROM without a backup first, thought a stock update would be fine !!

[Q] Need help. Missing files from /preinstall folder. Will donate to you :)

Would anybody mind uploading a zip file of their "/preinstall" system folder from their Droid 4? I'm missing some files from in there. Specifically the video files for the "Guided Tours" stock app. I must have deleted them a while back, and now I can't install the Jelly Bean OTA update.
I went back to stock, removed Safestrap and unrooted the phone to do the update. And when I go to do it, it gives me an error because those files weren't found. They don't seem to be in the Droid 4 Dump, so I guess I'm S.O.L. unless I can get them from somebody.
If I deleted those, I probably deleted something else from in there, so could you please send me the whole directory? I'd be happy to throw you a donation. Ten bones sound fair? Many thanks in advance.

Yes and yes. Just DL the utility and fast boot ICS file. Unzip ICS file and move files to the files directory of utility. Went ahead and did it last night, and it worked! After using this to reset my ICS stock ROM, the OTA Jelly Bean Update installed just fine. Thanks a ton. I gotta say, this online community rocks! I love how helpful and supportive everybody is of each other.
One minor note, I had to do this on my roommate's Windows 7 computer to get it to work. I couldn't get it to work on either my laptop or desktop, both of which have Windows 8. The phone drivers wouldn't install. Strange; I downloaded the USB drivers from Motorola, and they appeared to install, but when I plugged my phone into the computer, and went to use the Utility, it kept giving me a "Device not found" error. And also, when I checked in "Device Manager," it showed my phone with an exclaimation point and said that the drivers weren't installed.
When I followed the same process on a Windows 7 computer, the drivers installed as soon as I plugged the phone in. Weird; Motorola's website said that the drivers were for Windows 7 and 8. I tried disabling "Signature Verification" on Windows 8, but that didn't work either. Anybody know if Motorola hasn't released Windows 8 drivers for Droid 4 yet? Just wanna know for future reference. Thanks a bunch.
