[POLL] Your Opinion about The LG O2X so far - LG Optimus 2x

Hello,
This is al little poll
Many people are a little bit dissapointed of this phone.
The hardware is very good, but the service from Lg is the main factor why people are dissapointed.
I want to know what your opinion about this device is
What is your opinion about this phone so far?
(look above the post for the poll)

this isnt the best phone ive seen so far, it isnt even the best looking one so far, buuuuut... if we consider that at the date of creation of this phone it was the first dual core ever, with great graphics power and productivity to match, nowadays brands still make new phones that are very simmilar to the o2x if not equal, so id say time passes, things change, but at the time it was being sold, it was quite simply the best phone ever. oh, and at least lg doesnt make phones that look like cheap toys... *cough samsung *cough*

You are right
The hardware is fantastic for a phone made about 2 years ago.
But nividia is the main problem.
If they aren't updating the drivers, a custom rom of cm10 will never work as it supposed to be

I add Low RAM, and, something that bothers me a lot, is that the screen is asymmetrical, the lower space (between the display and bezel) is huge while the top space is short. I also don't like the protuberant back (very low quality) camera.
On the other hand, the display density is very good, but the IPS does not seem to be very good quality, since viewing angles aren't that good.

Okay so that is my opinion on the LG Optimus 2x or in Germany called "Speed".
I brought the device in the beginning of December 2011, I compared it to my exgirlfriends Samsung Galaxy S2 and similar devices hard and often.
I took it for alot of reasons:
First of all the LG Optimus 2x was way more handy/ergonomical compared to the SGS2, its not too thin, not too wide. It is a bit more like the iPhone. 4' inch is really the most ergonomical size in my opinion.
Second, the device hardware is still a very good competitor to the SGS2, the SGS2 does have HDSPA+ (which isn't even near to be an standard in german cities) and 1GiB of RAM, the Optimus does have "just" 512MiB and HDSPA but therefor the powerful Tegra 2. So paying +100€ more for the SGS2 was just a joke. Also the LG Optimus 2x feels simply better and looks better especially in white, like mine.
Third from the beginning, I didn't cared about the software, cuz its the same with a pre-installed Windows on a Netbook, there is just crap on the device and it's slow, so you are FORCED to clean up, root and install something like Modaco. Same goes for the SGS2.
ICS in general made some trouble on both SGS2 and 3 on the beginning, also that Gingerbread is a very stable software and is in general a very good piece brings me to the question why I should upgrade anyways? I know because it can give us better performance and it looks better, but the device just works, I can write SMS and make calls and battery life is also good. The battery always reaches 24hours easy. Even 48 hours are possible if you are busy with other things than playing around on the device but writing messages both WhatsApp with GPRS or SMS/Phone calls.
For me the LG Optmius 2x is handy, well priced and the software is doing what it should. I had the stock Froyo and Gingerbread each a month from December to February and I only upgraded to a customsoftware because I was bored. Games worked well and I never had problems with the device. I just cleaned up the stock software, thats it! The 512MiB RAM don't bottleneck the device IF you manage and close stuff on your own. YOU DON'T NEED 1GIB OF RAM. It just makes the user lazy to manage the software maybe spying him cuz he installed so many crap like facebook.
In the end I can say, its a good phone. For me it will be in service until 2014 or rather the end of 2014 with or without ICS. Nor the Optimus4x or the SGS3 or the HTC whatever they call it. Will give you more. You still just can write SMS, accept phone calls and use WhatsApp. Just faster? Or because you guys really need to show of you penis lenght? Be effecient and think about it. ^^
At least it rather depends on the user.

Crap GB ROM!!!
Sent from my thoughts using telepathy :banghead:

I agree with N3mesis. Actually GB STOCK and CM7 is quite stable on this phone and battery lasts around 20 hours with moderate usage. In fact presently none of the highend phones gives much over the O2X excepting quad cores and higher RAM. Infact 512 RAM has never posed any problem for me and i have always 50 to 100 mb RAM free depending on roms and softwares used. I dont think quad cores and huge RAMs are required for phones for daily use including a bit of gaming like temple run etc. And regarding ICS it is just my over expectation of getting it as promised by LG makes me feel bad when they are not delivering it.
Only thing is LG knows how to kill their FIRST IN THE WORLD FLAGSHIP phone and destroy fans and customer base.

You guys basically sum up my situation. When I was shopping for a smartphone (coming off a Huawei X3) I looked at the GS2 and the Motorola 4G but this was cheaper, had similar specifications, and felt better in my hand. I also liked the little HDMI port.
I updated to stock GB when I got it, rooted with NVFlash, and used Titanium Backup to remove some of the preinstalled software. Apart from an unfortunate fall which chipped up the plastic trim (didn't chip the glass though) it's been sweet.
Production battery life isn't great but I picked up a couple of 3500mAh batteries on eBay for $16. They'll last a day or more with moderate use and I charge every night anyway.
Of course the problem now is, thanks to the clever people on here, upgrading to another phone becomes increasingly pointless. I'm still on the stock ROM but have a modified kernel that is advertised as making it faster and smoother, and it certainly seems like it does. The battery does seem to drain faster when I'm reading on FBReader, but that could be my imagination. Otherwise it's very good.
Sure, the Galaxy S3 is a better phone, but is it $700 better? For what I use it for, this is more than adequate.

The xda forums are what keep this phone alive to this day.
Its a good device but I've seen better ones, however not at this price.
The real problem with it, no matter how you see it is lg and their way of treating the device.
This one could profit a lot from a jelly bean update.
Until then however I will stay on WajkIUI ROM and be happy.

I think this is a great device... Very capable camera, nice screen, good battery, and feels great in the hand. Only downside is the support we aren't receiving from nVidia. 512MB of RAM is more than enough.... and why do viewing angles... Do you expect yourself to be lying down on your bed and having your phone laying face up on your night stand watching a movie?

I got this phone second hand about 2 months ago as my first Android phone. I must say that the open source Android world is really vast and awesome. This phone is by far the best phone I've ever owned.
The stuff I like:
+ good screen
+ nice design & build quality (though the bottom part is a bit long imo)
+ fast processor
+ Android of course, and really good devs
+ being "unbrickable" (I've bricked my sis's Galaxy 5 before :/...)
+ value for money
Stuff I don't quite like:
- poor support from LG/nVidia
- battery life, especially on 3G data
- feels heavy compared to other phones
- seems to lack RAM at times (I have lots of stuff installed/running). 1GB would've been nice. - camera could've been slightly better
Sent from my LG-P990 on ParanoidAndroid using Tapatalk 2

This phone has the nest hardware best look and with cm7 it's almost best in software (waiting for cm10 after the official drivers we get)...fir me this is awesome phone in almost every sense...

To all the people that say that the camera is bad, i compared it to my sister's GS2 and it isn't that awfull as you say it is, it is a camera phone! Are you really expecting DSLR quality from a phone? (Just a little side note, some of the people that say that their phone camera sucks just doesn't know how to handle the camera, try to explore the camera settings for a bit to see if you can take better pics.)

I noticed something disturbing on the other threads

O2X Folks,
I noticed something disturbing and more than a little annoying.
It seems that because of the timing of the release of these devices, quite a number of forum posters are comparing the O2X to the SE Arc. Yes, the same SE Arc that runs on a later generation single-core snapdragon and runs 2.3.
Other than the relative timing of their releases to market, is there even an comparison between the two? It's apples-and-oranges all over.
I have BOTH devices and I can tell you now that the Arc is inferior to the O2X in many respects:
1. Dual core really means more. Whereas the stock O2X handily gets about 2,450 on Quadrant, the stock Arc barely gets to 1,300 under the same benchmark. Once you've got Paul O'Brien's ROM on the O2X, you can clock 3,100 -- even the SGSII couldn't clock that score.
2. Reality Display??!The so-called Reality Display on the Arc produces washed-out colors in daily use -- and this is true not just for my unit but the others I've seen. I never realized that reality could look that washed-out
3. Disk Space This never gets enough press and I'm starting to think SE bribed the so-called "professional" reviewers to ignore this: 512MB of disk space is never going to cut it these days. Two years ago, that would have been a monster deal. Today, it's just **meh**. The fact is, market app files are getting bigger and bigger and even with Apps to SD, it's just too limiting when you're really just playing with the 270MB that the Arc has out of the box.
4. Design and Build Quality Sure, the Arc features an attractive and unique design but it's just too... SHINY. After a while, it starts to look tacky with the chrome bezel, whereas the O2X has a statelier, more refined and restrained design with its matte accents and Wenger-toned back. What's more, the materials used on the O2X are obviously of a higher quality -- the Arc's bezel is obviously some cheap plastic that will wear away after a while -- I've had SE Phones dating back to the P900 days and their bezels/sides wore out after a while. I am willing to bet the Arc will be no different. SE is just not very good when it comes to these things -- or it does this on purpose to get you to buy a new one form them. It's also occurred to me that the decision to implement the arc design probably contributed to the lack of storage; a "fatter" chassis would have allowed for more storage modules to be compressed into the body.
Now, the main complaints against the O2X are lags and the quality control that led to some units having bleeding back-lighting. Legitimate ones, to be sure but luckily, I didn't experience the latter and Paul's ROM fixed the former for the most part.
I bring up the custom ROMs because it's annoying that people are posting on XDA complaining about STOCK ROMs when everyone bloody well knows that XDA is the go-to place for custom ROMs. The level of inanity is just seriously grating. Why even bother to come here if you're just going to rant about Stock ROM issues? Do it on the Android forums!
If any Arc/SE Fanboys are reading this: please just stop comparing the two devices. It doesn't work. As a fellow Arc owner, I know you want to justify your purchase but just because it got released right around the same time as the O2X does not mean that they're meant to be compared. I use my Arc mainly as a spare.
If you want to rightly compare the O2X to some phones, this is a much better template: http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/15/htc-sensation-versus-the-rest-of-the-dual-core-world-smartphone/
Hey, I am not trying to start a flame war, especially since where I live the Arc isn't even an option. I am just curious as to the difference the dual core appears to make for daily use rather than quadrant scores. My next phone is going to be a dual core phone so I am not trying to start a bickering about single vs dual core. Thanks
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
for now im still having se arc in my mind. the software is just so good, also love the skin of SE. a great camera too, its a fast and fluid phone. i like high scores in quadrant (btw 1,3- 1,5k is still a stock rom, so dont be comparing stock to non stock your self), but who gives a crap about them if you can run anything lag-free. of it just looks so plasticky, and too light for me too.
my only gripes on the O2x would be the battery screen bleed and shutdowns that every1 is crying about but probably still gonna try my luck and get it

I don't own an arc or a 2x but looking into buying a new phone.
Why shouldn't they be compared?
They are both the latest android phones on the market and both are similarly priced with similar dimensions. People looking into buying a new android phone will be comparing these two and other phones to see what works best for them. I say keep the comparisons coming.

though they almost have the same pricing,
we can safely say that O2x is more future proof( having a dual core ).
I like SE arc's design but that's about it. overall the O2x is a lot better device. even the camera on the SE arc is not that impressive.
i never thought about LG or SE as one of my future phones but both companies are high on the list now since they offer phones with higher end specs and the liberty to flash new roms without much hassle.
I haven't touched an arc yet but the optimus 2x feels very nice and is a joy to play with, custom (read cm) software will only boost my enjoyment of this phone more and more.
Have been an HTC fan since the hero and i do like their buildquality but every time i try a different brand i'm smacked in the face with some of the details HTC always forgets (screen, speaker, batterylife).
Ofc (at least for now imo) LG has some major issues software wise but hopefully they will be fixed; I'd love to read this message back in a few months and just lauch at it while my LG is purring with CM goodness; this same CM goodness is brightly for SE, less for HTC and (unknown?) for Samsung. The lack of an easy way to root and flash custom roms is why I sweared never to buy a motorola phone ever again after the milestone.
Ofc this will be different for other people, but people are different

LO2X will defeat SGSII with gingerbread? i'm not sure at all! =S

I'm just hungry....
What phone is better? a lot of people say, the optimus 2x just need gingerbread to "kill the SGSII" but....
On some youtube videos, shows, the O2X can't play 1080p flash fluently... and that was very disapointing....
Can you give me a clear ( no fanboy ) opinion.

Hmmm not sure about Gingerbread yet. But since LG's working very hard on it (judging from the delays) I would believe they would have came out with something good. As for now, we can still actually beat the SGSII's processor optimisations, exynos may look better on paper but on software, its the Tegra 2 that wins due to all the tegra games out there. But seriously, its not good to compare now, the O2X haven't even got the Gb update yet, I tried CM7 on my O2X and found it to be surprisingly smooth and multi touch responsive, Gb could be one of the reasons why the SGSII is so smooth. Let's not give up hopes on LG give them a chance
maybe they ain't working hard, they might be drinking some coffee while reading newspaper.... who knows ...

yeah.,hope Lg will provide GB in near future..
i love my o2x
According to androidworld.nl the optmimus one gb update should arive in a couple of weeks and we have to wait another 2 or 3 months

we just have to wait ..
This is stupid... Why would their best phone users wait to GB, while the low-end phone gets it?
Anyway, 1080p doesn't lagg on my phone at all.
But I don't think it'll ever beat SGSII, unless the GB software is so amazing, and optimized.
Since the sgs2 costs about 100 euro's more than the O2x, i don't expect it to be faster. But they're both bloody fast, so does it really matter?
Sent from my Optimus 2X using XDA Premium App
Based on what they have done with 2.2 I wouldn't count my chickens!. What makes you think LG will do better with 2.3?.
LG are CRAP with software, no matter what version they bring out.
I have owned both and went back to the o2x. Here are my reasons.
Build quality, the o2x is a far superior device. It feels great in the hand and materials used give a much nicer feel. The gsii is plasticy.
Size, the gsii was too big for me for one handed use. The o2x is slimmer which makes one handed use perfect.
Screen, obviously the gsii has a great screen especially in direct sunlight but the o2x has a better than average so this is no problem.
Speaker, important for me. With volume+ app o2x is just as loud as the gsii's good speaker. Without it i found the o2x too quiet so this was a great find for me.
Performance, both have great processors and more than anyone needs today. Performance around the phone, apps and browsing web for everyday use I could not notice the difference.
Camera, both great. Video capture is better on the Samsung.
Ui, I use custom rom's and don't like either out of the box. If I had to choose one I would go with the LG. Its closer to stock android.
Battery life is much the same as both will need a charge every day.
Sent from my Optimus 2X using XDA Premium App
as long as they don't screw up like with the leaked G2x gingerbread, all the power will be with the custom ROMs ... so please LG, release proper HALs and drivers for 2.3 userspace.
but i love O2X, i think her dessign is beautyfull!!!
And the SGSII it's cool, but plasticy....
Tegra 2 is better on Games ( GPU ) and Exyros is better on powerhorse ( CPU )
I have readed, the Optimus 2X at the same clock, clock per clock, O2X is faster.
Thanks for all those answers
I've got a friend with the sgsii and it's nice, gb really makes the difference. However, tegra 2 is the way to go for gaming and he's had issues with some games not running at all.

I also use my phone a lot for gaming and the O2X just blows away the SG2S in this department.
My main use is for web browsing and with miren on both My optimus renders faster and less stuttery when flash is on the page than my mates SG2S.
I am very happy with my 2X even thought all items except games rendering beats SGSII. My only hope is that more developers use Tegra SDK to develop games and maybe even application. Make full use of the 8 cores in the GPU you know what I mean... Haha...
O2x will beat in graphics processing. However, normal processing / graphical display = SGII.
O2x the biggest and most common flaw of all is the random reboots / SOD. Without this flaw, this phone would have been perfect. I personally got this problem and I got a replacement.
In terms of performance on GB, who knows? in terms of hardware, SGII > O2x EXCEPT for the Nvidia Tegra 2. So if you're talking about optimizing O2x, then SGII also could be optimized, hence, beating O2x.

Actually, the SGS2 has already been optimized in some area, the most obvious and most talked about is the Browser. But who cares if SGS2 beat O2X in many areas, the thing that matter is I love my O2X! Haha!
when is this a battle??
LO2x cant beat SGSii... twice as large ram, imho better CPU... but on the other hand...why did you buy LO2x over SGSii? I did, coz it costed me 60% of sgsii price... and i dont regret it

Problems Summarized ? Buy or Not Poll !!

Hello Everyone,
I recently sold off my Vibrant and was looking at LG Optimus 2X as my next stop
However alot of people have discouraged me from buying this cell looking at the BSOD and other bugs but i still have a feeling that this phone is worth it because of low price and very good hardware.
As you guys are using it, it will be best if you can tell me about your experience with this phone which can help me make a decision.
I am getting this phone for like 325$ slightly used in Canada or 220 Pounds from UK.
Just write your Experience in this way:
Pros : Tell what in your opinion makes this phone preferred over others.
Cons: Please Explain the Problems here as thats the main cause stopping most of people from getting this shiny thing Explain it like:
1) Problem + How frequently you encounter this? + Has there been any fixes ?
I will be very thankful to all the community here using LG Optimus to tell us more about this Phone and take out any misconceptions about this phone If any
Thanks guys
EDIT: I made a simple poll to summarize the views of whole community in a quick glance
Well :
pros : cheap, tegra, IPS screen
cons :
-2.2, maybe no update to 2.3
-very very very bad drivers (aka baseband), implies :
Double core but cant install one single app without huge lags (even symbian is faster), probably due to bad scheduling
Reboots, freezes and random lags : more or less fixed
3G signal loss, even on perfect coverage, wifi error.
.....
Well, you just need to NOT buy it
Sent from my LG-P990 using XDA App
Pros
1. Dual Core Tegra 2
2. 8mp Camera
3. 1080p video recording and playback
4. HDMI Out
5. Cheap
Cons
1. No gingerbread update yet
Unlike other users I haven't come across any issues such as the BSOD, no freezes or auto shut offs.
I got the O2X last June and immediately update it to LG version 10c, most users have experienced better performance with this update but some have reported that it didnt fix anything.
Pros: cm7
Sent from my Optimus 2X using Tapatalk
If your here because you like putting custom roms on esp cm7 then the o2x is about the most perfect phone you could have.
If you want it working out of the box, then whatever lg did to this phone, they need shooting.
Me, I love cm and therefore only bought this phone because it was being supported
To have cm7 on a phone with a gorgeous 4inch ips screen, tegra dual core processor, 8mp camera with 1080p video recording, that's not made out of cheap plastic like samsungs phones, like I said about perfect lol

Agree.........
Is the Modaco FR19 a good option instead of CM7?
CM7 is not a option for me since the lack of A2DB.

Yea ofcourse for someone like me who keeps flashin new roms i nvr stick to the stock stuff. For me CM 7 > Stock for me
And i am hoping with the upcoming GB update things may get even better right ?
Pros:
Really cheak compared to the hardware it has (comparing it to an SGS2).
Awesome official Dev support. From Cyanogen, to Paul of Modaco, to MIUI, to Supercutio.
I have not experienced those BSODs. And I'm on a slightly modified stock ROM.
Cons:
None really. I'm sure GB will come. We all need to just wait.
Pros:
- Good Hardware, as others stated, average battery life(im saying average cause most android phones last a day)..
- CM support( that alones gives it a ton of +)
- Good Camera
- Ips Screen
Cons:
- LG
- LG drivers
- LG Updates(no gingerbread till now) :
I'd says it's best to wait until GB update until buying. or for LG to fix BSOD and other issues.
Afterwards it doesn't really matter cause u can rely on devs rom for future updates
and the O2x is constantly getting cheaper, atm it is like $430 delivered on ebay compare to other dual core phones it is quiet good value for money
Somewhat same!!!

I guess seeing the fact that Majority of people think its worth it and only a minority is frustrated over it i think i would take a gamble and buy it off ebay and see whats ma experience with a hope that some day LG will fix its drivers lol
Yeah go for it great phone, and for the people who voted for SUX ! Dont ever buy it . they probably dont even own the phone
Pro :
- have many rom mods,specially cm7
- with good price u'll have android powerhouse
Cons :
- basically none if u use the right rom

if you can get a sgs2 or sensation for the same price, go get one of those, if not, the O2x will be the best option, install cm7 on it and it will be even better

No Problems for me..... everything works fine.
My Device is a really new one...maybe newer Devices have no problems with bsod ?

Right! And the thread "Phone shuts off!! Automatically!!" are full of happy owners. If you´re not happy you simply dont own a o2x. Lol.
I voted "sux" because my super cheap ZTE Blade is slower but definitely more reliable than my o2x.
Just wondering about one thing. Does installin CM7 or other custom roms helps somewhat with BSOD or not at all ?
A custom ROM can help. Not more.
Some people have after installed a CROM no problems with bsod. Others can do what they want...nothing helps....

Galaxy S2 vs Optimus 2X

Hi guys!!
I was out yesterday night with some friends and one of them had a S2, so I asked if I could test drive it.
It had stock ICS (4.0.3), versus my P990 with temasek's (almost) latest ROM and vadonka's kernel.
I have to say... other than the screen (that is a lovely 4.3" vs P990's 4") and the phone is practically the same size, so that's very cool... but other than that, I don't regret my buy one bit. The P990 feels smoother and is more responsive, navigating through menus, homescreens and even web browsing!
So all I have to say... congratulations to all dev's, and congratulations LG for putting together a very nice piece of hardware (even if the software is not up to par).

But Samsung Galaxy S2 is still overpriced!
Be proud of your lg, no network in ireland sell any good lg devices, they think we all want iphone or sammy.

But surely the stock s2 is way better then o2x...
Maybe s2 cm7 is better then o2x?? Anyone confirm this?? (the specs of s2 seems better)
Having used my O2X alongside my Dad's GS2, I can't think of any redeemable qualities that our phone has. The screen on the the S2 is nicer, it's bigger, it's thinner, it has better support from Samsung, it's faster. It's just better.
You just can't compare with s2 ...probably with s advance when 2x with cm7 and s advance with stock...and if with lg stock than you can compare with there galaxy ace...lg stock software is way behind
Who cares, currently the o2x is poo it need ics or jellybean all the roms or gingerbread and froyo suck.

I wouldnt trade mine for s2 tho i like its bigger screen.Much better design for 2x.

Dude, aren't you exaggerating a bit? Sure, stock GB sucks a*s, but Temasek's CM7, Stefan's Hybrids, TonyP's PA (and more) are fast and v stable. I am actually very happy w my o2x and as i mentioned b4 Temasek's CM7 has been a cure for my flashaholism for months now. On the subject, i couldn't comment because i haven't seen a sgs2 in action, but i suspect that it would do a bit more than the o2x due to specs.. In the end though, it all comes down to software (as all here know..)

Like KoolSavas said... it's not only about the android version!
I don't know what you use your phone for... but I use it to make phone call, send text messages, check facebook, check my stocks/bank account, play some poker, ocasionally surf the web and do google searches, take the ocasional picture, stuff like that...
So doesn't matter what's the android version, I want what makes my experience smoother and more enjoyable.
Having said this, I wasn't trying to say that O2X was better than the S2 in an absolute way.
I haven't compared stock O2X vs stock S2, but I do believe that stock S2 will probably fare better in that comparison.
What I did mean to say was that thanks to our dear developers my O2X can not only hold its own, but it actually looks smoother and more responsive than an S2. Of course, if someone were to put CM10 on the S2 it would probably be even better, but that wasn't my point.
And please do not forget that the price tag of an S2 is quite different from the price tag of an O2X.
That's all!

Thats really a VERY important factor.. While o2x price has plumbed, the sgs2 is still quite pricey considering its age. To be fair, i think that now would probably be the best time ever to buy an o2x. Right b4 the ICS update, enough time to play around with a few ROMs and hello ICS(/CM10?)
Buying an o2x would be simply more clever. In germany the price difference is between 100-115€. There is no really good reason to buy the S2. Also the o2x is with its 4'IPS more ergonomical. I would wait until ICS is released then buy the o2x, its worth the money.

True, but the colors (from 3 devices i have seen) are WAY of.
All 3 had blue or green tint in color or gray scale

I agree with the first part but I actually I don't agree with the last part... (about the 4" IPS)...
What impressed me the most (or maybe the only thing that impressed me) about the S2 was that, even though both phones have practically the same size, the S2 manages to have that extra .3" compared to the O2X (the O2X wastes a lot of screen space at the bottom).
So I'm pretty much convinced my next phone will have at least 4.3".
Other than the software support from Samsung, I dont think there is much difference in other areas.
But I would give up my O2X for S2 just for that quick software upgrades S2 enjoys...
Its good that you think O2x is good. But the reality is, the S2 has better hardware, its faster and it has better support. Official JB is going to land for the S2 in October.
And to the guy that posted gaming video, I raise you this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oYkEUOA6Spo
Yes thats 1080p Youtube in browser, O2x has been reduced to a slide-viewer.
My friend has a s2 and it's faster but the screen looks green
Sent from my Optimus 2X using xda app-developers app
i have a friend with an s2 (stock GB) and my o2x with tony's ICS is way smoother and better looking. As much as i want to, the o2x simply isn't a better phone but the fact that we have rooted and flashed custom roms (thanks DEVs) we are able to overcome the shortages and even beat the better phone. YEY grey matter.

you cannot compare by watching a stupid youtube video and since you dont own an SII yourself you obviusly dont know the deal
I own both the O2X and the SII which I got after having gone through 4 defective O2X's - and the one I got now still doesnt work bugfree
The SII blow the O2X away in everything and Im just on stock rom for both the SII and the O2X
- it NEVER lags, it has tons better memory management and 1gb ram, meaning nomatter what I do or how long I've had my phone running, or how much I multitask, it NEVER runs out of memory and slows down or starts to lag. Its buttersmooth allways
Samsung constantly sends out updates for it, and its now running stock 4.04 ics - its bugfree, everything works perfect.
Samsung will be sending out jelly bean for it before we even get ICS for O2X
Screen is lots better - not just bigger but looks better.
Batterytime is better - I can go 2-3 days on my SII and only 1 day on the O2X with the same usage pattern
Videoplayback is lots better than O2X which cannot play high profile h264 - my SII plays every video perfect
Camera is lots better, both regular camera and videocamera
Design is better, buildquality is better
It has more internal memory 16gb vs 8gb
Sound quality when playing music is better
I mean anything you can think of comparing is just better on the SII - and the overall feel when using it and everything just works, constantly, is a blessing.
I loved my O2X when I got it, and I stuck by it for a long time before getting the SII - but Im sorry to have to say theres just no comparison at all.
I'm sorry to hear about your very bad experience with the O2X spawndk.
If I were in your situation I would most probably share your exact same opinion. (Un)fortunately, at this moment, I believe I have tweaked my O2X to the best of its capabilities.
I think you were very unlucky with your O2X's, thus your opinion is clearly biased. There are a lot of users in this forum quite happy with their O2X's, as I am, so I don't think your comparison would be true to most people.
I don't think the O2X is better than an S2, nor should it be, as they are not direct competitors (price-wise). I just think that, all things considered, an O2X is not a regrettable choice (for me, and perhaps for most people).

Would you still recommend Motorola Razr i?

Hi guys, sorry for opening a new topic.
The question is this: A year ago I had a Xperia Ray, wich was a good phone. I did the stupid move of trading it for a LG optimus black, and this ****ty phone didn't last for more than 4 months... Then, according to my posibilities, I got an ipod touch 4G and a small normal phone to stay in touch. Long history.
Now I have the chance of getting a new smartphone. First, I wanted the Motorola Razr D3 and I liked it but I see no development for it here in XDA, probably because this phone is mainly focused to the latin market. That phone has a very cheap price, and I see that it has a guaranteed Android upgrade, this makes me wonder if the phone is gonna be upgradable to 4.4 Kitkat or just to Android 4.2 or 4.3... Nobody seems to know it at the moment.
Then, I started to check the Motorola Razr i closely, and I saw a video of it when technically crushes the samsung galaxy s3 in performance and multi-tasking, then I saw there's development for it and that's a good thing. Now one important question: You guys honestly think Razr i will be upgraded to Android 4.4 KitKat?
There would be a big chance considering that Motorola is now part of Google.
In conclusion, I have only $385 US dollars available for getting my next phone. I don't have any phone service plan, I hate them, I always get my phones to work in prepaid mode. And I consider that spending more than $500 US dollars for a phone is not very intelligent (sorry about this if I offend somebody), plus, I'm not precisely rich to get the latest flagships.
This are my options at the moment:
-Motorola Razr i: intel inside, good performance, but I don't know if will be updated to Android 4.4. It's one year old. They also say camera has bad quality.
-Motorola Razr D3: dual core, but kinda old chipset and GPU, it comes with the promise of an Android update guaranteed (they don't specify wich version tough)
-Xperia L: I like Sony, and this one comes with dual core and Adreno GPU 305, but Sony fails hard when it's about upgrading their phones.
-Xperia M: Same case as L, plus the fact that it isn't available in my country yet.
-Any other option you would want to recommend me?
Now, why I'm opening this topic here? Because I like Motorola and I consider that this brand is synonymous of quality. I got Motorola phones years ago and they were very good. I really like Razr i and D3, they're small, compact, beautiful and give stock Android experience. Please guys, give your opinion and recommendations and anwer the main question.
Thanks in advance.
Yeh i recommend it, it's a nice phone and can get some updates, and it's a pretty smart, and have "low cost", if u can pay a bit more of course u can have some better phone with quad-core.
I find it a likeable phone, good for everything but it does not excel. Above all, reliable (after 9 months).
But it's currently updated to JB 4.1.1, and that's I think where it'll stay. (I kept it on the original 4.0.4 so I kept FM functionality and haven't noticed I've missed anything important). Moto are developing the Moto X (I think). The Razr is history, a bit of an in-betweener. So if a phone which gets the latest updates is important to you I wouldn't sadly touch the Razr i.
My other phone is an Xperia Z, bigger and better. But day to day I prefer the Razr i, and don't feel I'm missing out. But neither am I obsessed with the latest tweaks and mods. And because its processor is Intel, I think a bit of patience, intelligence, a willingness to learn and not to expect everything to be handed to you on a plate is in order; and it isn't a piece of electronic jewellery to impress your friends. But that's just like many good things in life.

I will give you some ideas regarding the razr i
Keep in mind that the z2480 processor from the Razr i is single core WITH hyperthreading.
Gaming is going to be limited mostly by the GPU on these "cheap" phones.
If the game is written with native ARM code there will be binary translation occurring on the fly on the Razr i / and some games are not compatible.
The phone lasts 2 days of typical use, or 1 day of really heavy use (For example 1 day with 7-8 hour screen time while indoors).
The camera benefits with software tweaks, and with decent/good lightning it can take very good photos. Take a look at these photos which were taken and lightly post-processed -- they are outdoor photos as you can see.

Thank you so much guys, you're helping me to take a decision.
Just for the facts: I'm a gamer but not a phone gamer, I don't use my phones to play very much, just games like Tetris, Angry Birds and maybe Asphalt, I rather to play in my console or PC.
Also, photography is not a big deal for me, but yeah, I want good quality in the pictures and videos I take.
If somebody else wants to contribute with more opinions and information please go ahead.

Certainly not.
I used to have a Moto Defy, with a huge developer/modding community around the globe.
I Miss it badly now, as moto does give a f* for us. The intel thing make the modding very hard, and and I don't think the benefit is worth it.
Seriously thinking in make the switch to the Moto X, which probably will have a bigger base for modding.
I would not recommend the RAZR i anymore .. I won't judge too hard on it, because it's still not rooted yet (since one year exactly) and i was and still am used to rooted android devices. With the RAZR i after a year, battery life decreased, i am in constant RAM problems as the 1gb are full with not that much apps, so for example, if i switch from whatsapp to the browser and back, it most likely killed whatsapp by then. That's annoying as hell, especially because my old Desire HD did a better job with AOSP/4.04. The worst part is that the RAZR i isn't updated and there's no development such as cyanogenmod for it. For me, this means a lot. My RAZR i is in repair right now because i got it with a broken audio jack and i'm using the much older galaxy S2 by a friend, broken display, sensors sometimes fail, but it runs so much better. Why? Because of the rom, HellyBean/4.2.2, it runs so much better despite it has less ram and should have the slower processor.
Ah, almost forgot, the VERY handy camera button (which i absolutely love and miss on the S2 i use right now) somehow seems broken too, maybe software, most of the time i have to press it twice before it launches the camera. It triggers well though, so i guess that's software too. It just doesn't run that fine as i wished it would.
I would still recommend it, but ONLY if you're fine with the possibility that this probably won't be getting Kitkat. It's a very capable phone, I use it mostly for news email and browsing and like Omar said it usually lasts two days (something not a lot of phones can brag about, sadly.) the battery life I'd say is one of this phone's best features. If you root it and run a custom rom the phone preforms beautifully too. Just be prepared to live with *some* compatibility issues with certain apps.
In my opinion, buy it. For the price I'm seeing it at these days which is about ~150 dollars, it's a crazy good deal. Just don't expect it to see any updates from Motorola any time soon.

I think it's still a great phone, i dont want a bigger phone and if you too don't want anything bigger than this then i think that still there is no better phone as all the other are bigger with the same screen size or bigger screen size.
There might be one that i would trade it for but it's still a rumor just, huawei d2 mini, 4.3 screen, quadcore, 2gb of ram...
As far as defects in this phone i would say:
- Low earpiece volume( i will try viper4android app for this )
-It´s heavier on the top so it would be more confortable to use if that was reversed
-If you updating any app the phone will lag a bit
-Original camera is not great, the pics are a bit without color
I dont play on the phone i say nothing about that
If you buy this phone try the infinirom v6, its great, it leaves a lot of free ram and the rom it's basically the original one so everything works great but with a lot more ram free
I still think razr I is a great phone (not the best) even with 1 year past
