LC1 ROM Help - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone.
I have a european GT-7000 with 2.3.6 and kernel version LC1.
I have read the rooting guides, I do understand them, but what I want to do is get off off this rom altogether. Can I just use pc odin to flash a different rom, or follow the steps all the way through with this rom, and then switch after it is rooted.
This rom has polish gps etc... which does me no good, as I don't speak polish, or read it either.
If I missed a thread about this I do apologize. I have been reading for 5 days now, and I'm not sure. This is only my second Samsung phone. Have been rooting since the first android phones, but not understanding this one too well.
Thanks in advance.

ICS Repack Problems
Hi all,
I managed to flash ICS Repack by Chainfire on my galaxy note today. It is pretty cool and really fast. But I've few questions to ask regarding this new ROM. Please be kind enough to direct me to a appropriate thread if these questions are already been asked and solved.
After I flash ICS Repack, I cannot find CWM anymore. What happened to it ? and how I can get it back ?
How I can go back to my old GB rooted ROM (I've CW backup of that rooted LB2 GB ROM) ?
By now, this ICS version cannot render South Asian languages. but LB2 rendered it very well. Are there any option to get that language support on this ICS ?
I need to change this Keyboard (Chinese) to English. Any other method to change it (Instead of installing GO Keyboard) ?
In our county phone numbers have two formats (our numbers are start with "0" but receiving calls don't have that starting "0" ). But in this ICS ROM, those 2 numbers are Identifying as two different numbers. Any method to fix that issue ?
Can I get my CPU speed to 1.4GHz again ?
Please be kind enough to help me on these matters.
Thank You.
This is why users should study BEFORE they flash. Anyways. Flash CWM, boot it, resrore backup. Cant help you much. Just got my Note happy studying

Stick with GB for now...people working with ICS around here like to make you jump through hoops just to get your phone to work...so if you're not will to spend the time on it, then stick with GB...no fuss, no muss.
The answer to 3. is a very simple 'yes, you can always go back'.
Also, massive thanks for updating your OP with the answers you have found. If only all question-askers did this.

[Q] How do i install Android 4.0 ICS?

Hi people.
I haven't visited the site in a long time and i just noticed that ICS is out.
So i am trying to figure out how to install it.
Can you help me?
Thanks in advance
just forget it for now, there's lots of bug with the rom (leaked rom and official rom)
stay with GB for now
Ok, noted, but i was more wondering about the procedure.
It doesn't look like an easy straightforward procedure.
How would one go about installing ICS?
Once oficial ICS is out in your country for your carrier you simply plug youre Note into PC and use the instal wizard on Kies. It will do it for you nice and simple.
Thank you very much for your swift answers.
If you are on GB stock, just flash this ROM with mobile odin (safer!), check everroot and all (although I still didn't get root), and should be good BUT I say stay away.. It's not good and not radically different from GB.. If you flash anyway, STAY AWAY FROM LPY KERNEL.
If you're on any custom ROM, downgrade to stock GB and follow the procedure..
BUT DON'T FLASH IT.. I flashed it twice and luckily enough, I could come back to GB but you might not..

Okay, i have only 1000000 questions!
What does "flash" mean exactly? In my mind it sounds like changing firmware, am i close?
what does mobile odin do?
Is LPY kernel and LPY firmware the same thing?(as in because they are indivisible)
Why stay away from LPY kernel?
I have never tampered with my note since i bought it, i find no reason to since my phone covers all my needs, and thus i didn't familiarize myself with the terms or the procedures. For all intents and purposes you should explain it to me as if i was a 5 year old!
I understand that most probably you won't really take the time to explain these things to me, so i could use a central platform that can provide the answers to these questions in a straightforward manner without having to lurk here on the forums for a 1000 years.
Please if you know of such a place provide me with a link.
Here is a centralized link, it's been my best friend in getting answers:
Forum Search
Edit: If you have not messed with your phone, why would you even consider doing it with a rom that could potentially brick your device completely. If the juice isn't worth the squeeze, don't even attempt. If you want to learn, root with a GB rom, and for that follow Dr. Ketans thread, very easy to follow with pictures, and although you said explain it like I would to a 5 year old, I apologize in advance that the pictures aren't popup

Should answer most of your questions..
Anyways, yeah flashing means changing firmware but it could also refer to a kernel (read through the link) or anything really, even a theme.
Odin is a program used to flash various firmwares, kernels, etc for samsung devices. There's PC Odin and then there's mobile odin. Mobile Odin can be used to 'flash' just about anything, be it a stock ROM or kernel or a custom ROM.. By using mobile odin you don't get the yellow triangle too.. Which is used by samsung to detect whether the phone has been messed up with or not.. It's pretty easy to get one but it's easier not to get one if you know what you are doing.. Just read the thread above and your most questions will be answered.. Read the wiki on GN note too..

And I would suggest you to first get a hold of changing ROMs before jumping to ICS. There are various GB custom ROMs available. Try flashing them..

How do i check with one i need? I really dont know it all affects my phone, please advise.
Thanks.
When you do not know what you need, we should walk 2 steps back:
What do you want?
- Stock ROM ICS for a specific country and carrier?
- Or a Custom ROM (all with english language support, so this shouldn't be a problem for SA)
What do you have now?
- GB 2.3.6?, Rooted? Stock or Custom?

I have stock GB rom 2.3.6 unrooted. I would like 4.0.4, any carrier is fine. It wasnt a big deal on my previous s2.
If it is possible to flash a custom rom on unrooted phone with ordin then that would be nice.
Thanks for your help.

So, this isn't a torrent question anymore.
First of all: With a N7000 it is a big deal because you can easily brick your device - happened to really many people - because of an error in a specific chip in our Note.
So please be very careful and - the boring part - read the stickies and follow the advices/warnings in nearly every thread.
Second: Dr. Ketan wrote some very good tutorials how to get from 2.3.6 unrooted to a Stock or Custom ICS (both rooted). Read them and you will succeed.
Start with a prerooted GB (like LC1) and Chainfire's "injected" kernels. From there you can get to a rooted stock ROM with Mobile Odin Pro or you can choose other ICS Custom Roms. CM9/CM10 ROMs need different approaches.
I will not give the links here, because I hope you like to search these threads yourself, they are not far away

Can the Samsung I9000 Galaxy S be Permanently bricked?

Hello Everyone
I have read quite a bit about flashing but have not tried it yet. I know that the phone can be soft bricked if there is some problem and can be subsequently recovered as well. I also read about something known as nand corruption and I guess that too is recoverable as well.
What I wanted to know was can this phone be permanently bricked and if yes in what cases can it be possible?
I searched google with the same question and found that there can be emmc chip failure but that affects the S2 and Galaxy Note and that too particularly the ICS roms only.
So I wanted to know what is the status of this phone as far as bricking permanently is concerned.
Regards
till what i have experienced so far that it can only be permanently bricked by throwing it on wall
P.s. till now i have flashed thousands of times...
Thanks! These kind of replies are motivating to start experimenting and trying some roms!

i would advice you to read the developer instruction carefully and in any doubt check with experience users/read comment in thread and then only flash anything...
I have expierence with sgs+, sgsII, sg5 (gt-i5500), htc one s & lg optimus x2.. the sgsII didnt worked anymore cuz a friend try'd to flash it but had no knowledge about what he is doing but then i ressurected it and now it works.. i think it is not possible to brick a phone (but i am only sure at samsung smartphones) if you do a mistake there are still ways to ressurect it if you did something wrong.

yes... few users are complaining about loosing imei and not able to connect to network... so best practice says always flash JB over ICS and ICS over GB... always flash JB over ICS....
If you need more info or links head to remics-jb thread in development section.

Some Samsung phones can be bricked by flashing. The SGS is not one of them though - it's safe.

if you flash another phone's rom like i9100 s2 it will be bricked..Hard brick
But this is only happening if i9100 rom file has a pit file
Long story short flash an i9100 rom that has ext4.pit file, phone won't be alive... No download mode no recovery no charging animation...JTAG will be required.
